----------------------- ----------------------- No matter how relaxed you were everyone needed a day off. Mari was no stranger to this as she looked about the local park. She’d managed to dodge out on Chris for a little bit because she needed some personal time. She liked him but there was only so much togetherness you could handle with a guy you liked. Anyone who told you otherwise was addicted to romance novels and needed to get a grip.
Stretching, she felt her spine pop into place and she sighed softly. It helped her to know that she wasn’t the only one who was out here enjoying the fall weather. Not that she got cold. She wore a coat because it was expected of her. Not because she needed it. Yawning gently she glanced around. The birds were out, the trees seemed to rustle soothingly and life was good. Meeting Chris had given her purpose and drive and had made her see things in a different light. Seeing a pile of leaves she got a mischievous look on her face.
Glancing this way and that she fell back into the pile of leaves and threw them in the air like a six year old. Watching the red, gold and orange leaves fall down around her. It reminded her of when she was a young girl, when everything was so much different compared to now adays. She remembered how people didn’t have the things to distract them the way they did now. Simpler times than what was going on now.

----------------------- ----------------------- Tyler blew out a breath as he headed down the square. It was a pretty nice day. The weather was pretty decent for Fall, and it was still looking rather nice out, if a bit overcast. But still, it was nice out. Okay, so he had to wear a jacket because it was a bit cooler, but still...well, actually, he didn't now that he was a Hybrid, but he was just so used to wearing one during this time of year that it would've felt weird not to. As he walked down the street, he mulled over the meeting that had transpired between him and the new werewolf in town, Jade. It had to be difficult for her not knowing a lot of werewolves around Mystic Falls. Not that he knew if she knew a lot of werewolves as a rule, but from what she had said, it had sounded like she didn't know a lot of them. But then again, neither did he so he supposed that they were even in that regard. Hey, it was a learn as you go kind of a process these days. Of course, one could argue that his whole life had turned into that the day he had accidentally triggered his curse. Not really a fun concept, but how else would he describe it? He then pushed the thought aside. There was no reason for him to be thinking this way. But it was hard sometimes. For some reason, he had found that he had become a lot more pensive since his transformations. Not that he hadn't had his moments before then, but he had to admit that they came a lot more frequently these days. But to be fair, he had a lot more to deal with than he had before. Which, you know, kind of sucked, but there it was. Man, sometimes I wish I could just go back to the way things were before I turned, he thought. Well, not him being a total jerk---he didn't miss that guy, but he certainly missed the days where his biggest concern was a pop quiz and not some sort of Supernatural catastrophe. As he headed for the middle of the square, he saw someone falling down into a pile of leaves before tossing them up into the air and he let out a small laugh. He remembered doing that himself when he was a little boy. Granted, it was usually done when he was supposed to be on his best behavior, but come on! He had been a kid and what kid wouldn't play in a pile of leaves? Ah to be that carefree again, he thought to himself. But how could he be? He had too much going on in his life. But it was kind of nice to see someone else deciding to go back to those days. "You look like you're having a good time," he commented as he approached the woman. I'm glad someone in this town is, he mused. To be perfectly honest, there hadn't been too much of that in Mystic Falls lately, so it was kind of nice to see it. -----------------------

----------------------- ----------------------- She heard Tyler come up on her before she saw him, well that and his scent gave him away. She thought the one good thing about this vampire business was that it allowed her to know someone was coming before they got too close. She recognized Tyler’s mixed scent as he came into view and smiled up at him lazily, slowly getting up as she brushed leaves off of herself and out of her hair. She really didn’t worry about her looks so much but it helped to at least try to not look like a bum. She did have standards after all.
“Well I figured I’d spent enough time being an outcast and it was time to make my own fun.” She said with a happy smile, “You should try it, Tyler. You look like you could do with something impulsive and fun. And with it being leave tossing no one is going to fuss.” She said as she began to make another pile with her hands, making sure his stack was big enough if he decided to join her as she made another pile for herself.
Yes, it was silly and fun but everyone could use some of that. Everyone was so serious all the time it was just depressing really. She realized she couldn’t change what other people did but she could make her own happiness. She did not need anyone's permission to have fun. “You know you want to. Come on, worst case you can say you were trying to impress a girl.” She coaxed him playfully, her eyes sparkling as she regarded the handsome hybrid. Here was someone who was nice to her. That was all too rare nowadays.

----------------------- ----------------------- Tyler nodded in understanding as the woman said that she had spent so much time being an outcast that it was time to create her own fun. "Yeah, being on the outside's not really fun," he agreed. And it really wasn't. Oh sure he belonged to one of the Founding Families, which brought him certain privileges and a high social status, but when it came to having true friends, he had only recently been accepted into a circle. Granted it was because he knew about the Supernatural world, but that knowledge had forced him to grow in ways being a Founding Family member never could. And when he thought about it, he was better for his experiences. He was no longer the same selfish boy he had once been. He then listened as she said that he should try it as it he looked like he could use something impulsive and fun and that no one would make a fuss about leave tossing. He frowned a bit, unsure of how she knew his name. To his knowledge, they had never met, so how'd she know him? And apparently she wasn't good with him hesitating, encouraging him to join her, saying that he knew he wanted to and if worse came to worse, he could always say he was trying to impress a girl. "I don't know," he said. He hadn't done something like this since he was a kid. He didn't want to look like a dork. And besides, why should he get that carefree with a total stranger? For all he knew, she was just waiting for him to let his guard down so that she could attack. And he wasn't about to put himself in that situation. OOC Did we have a previous thread where they met? I'm not remembering. -----------------------

"Wow I really must not rate in this town if you can't even remember me helping you with your Algebra homework the first day I was here." she said a bit bitterly. Tyler exemplified the EXACT problem she was having. She helped folks out and no one even remembered her name. Seemed like the only thing this crap town remembered was when people left bodies stacked to the rafters or if you tore out the football coaches throat out. Even then they would probably call it an animal attack, heartless jerks.
"Yeah you know what? I'm done here. I've lived here for six months. My friends can't even bother to stop by to say hi they're so hip deep in drama and bs and the ONE guy I liked here kind of just disappeared on me." she was hurting, a lot. Tears filled her eyes as she saw the distrust on Tyler's face. Chris had abandoned her and it hurt.
She shoved her hands in her pockets and turned away. "Have fun, Tyler. I hope you don't fail Algebra." she said softly her voice cracked and she covered a sob. She had to leave before she broke down. All that crap that Chris had said about her mattering was just so much bull. She mattered, right. He couldn't even TELL her he was leaving. She'd almost considered sleeping with him, the jerk.
She turned away trying not to let him see the tears trailing down her face. It hurt. Stefan acted like if she talked to him his girlfriend would tear off his testicles or like she had body lice. Damon hadn't even bothered to say hi and now the one kid she'd actually helped in town couldn't even remember she'd helped him. Probably too many hits with a football to his head. Impacts at 150 miles an hour was bound to make you have memory problems. He'd probably develop Parkinsons later in life. Just what everyone needed, a werewolf with the shakes.
Small town friendliness was such bs. "I gotta go. The one guy that said I even mattered just left me high and dry so excuse me if I'm not too thrilled to be reminded of how much I don't matter to anyone. I guess I should be lucky I dodged a bullet. He was probably just saying that to try and get laid."
She turned to walk away, angry that she'd even bothered.
OOC Ummm, yeah considering it was the first thread she was in HERE. Way to make her feel wanted.

----------------------- ----------------------- At first, Tyler wasn't remembering the woman in front of him, but then he remembered that she had helped him with his Algebra a while back and that her name was Marina. He was about to say something when she spat out that she didn't even rate him remembering her helping him out. Nice one, Ty, he chided himself. She had every right to be angry with him. Even if they had only met once, it was pretty callous of him to not even remember her name. And that was something that he was trying to change about himself: his tendency to be self-absorbed and get wrapped up in himself. But he had let his own drama with Caroline revert him back to that guy that he used to be and he wasn't happy about it one little bit. He was about to speak up when she continued, saying that she was done as she had lived there for six months and none of her friends had visited her as they were so wrapped up in their own drama and that the one guy she liked had disappeared on her and that she had been reminded of how much she didn't matter, and that he had probably only been paying attention to her to get laid. Tyler bit his lip. Yeah, she was pissed. And he couldn't blame her. Just automatically forgetting her was a dick move, even for him. And here he had been saying that he was trying to be a better guy. Better guy, right. A better guy didn't forget someone who helped him out, that was something a lesser guy did. And Marina was seeing him as a lesser guy, which was something that didn't sit well with him. He didn't want her to think of him that way. Then she started to walk away and Tyler used his vampiric speed in an effort to get in front of her. "Hey, Marina, wait, don't go," he told her. "I'm a dick. Ask anyone," he said. "I'm still not used to being a guy who thinks about people other than himself. I've basically spent my whole life thinking the world revolved around me and me alone. But I hate that guy and I'm trying to be better, but I'll probably backslide again," he continued. Okay, that was more than he usually said to people outside of his inner circle, but she needed to know that she wasn't the one at fault and that she was important to people. Hopefully he could convince her to stay as he hated the fact that he had caused her this kind of pain. OOC Oh yeah. I remember that thread. Sorry I had a brain dump. -----------------------

She stood there in front of Tyler, her temper keeping her tense as she forced herself to calm down and listen, “I’m sorry too, Tyler. I shouldn’t have torn into you like that. Its just been really hard here. I just…feel like everyone is blowing me off for their teen romances or vampire drama of the week. I mean I get that I’m not the center of people’s universe its just…” she sighed and sat down on a bench, her head in her hands.
Marina listened to him, really listened, he was hurting too, “Tyler, you’re allowed to make mistakes, you’re young. Hell even Chris is young.” Her voice cracked and she pinched the bridge of her nose to keep from bawling, “I just…its hard. I never asked to be a vampire and I don’t have very good social skills. I really thought Chris liked me. He even sang a song to me at the beach party and then the next day he was gone.” She stared down at the ground, “I thought things were going to be better but it just made me feel worse.”
“To be teased with what I could have had and then have it disappear hurts worse than never knowing what you were missing in the first place. I’m obviously the biggest failure ever if I couldn’t even help a fledgling to get a grip I mean I tried to get Stefan to help and he was just like “He listens to you.” And now the guy is gone who knows were. I’m just an idiot.”

----------------------- ----------------------- Tyler listened as she apologized, explaining that things had been hard for her and it felt like people were blowing her off. "That can suck," he agreed. And it really did. In school, he was known as one of the popular kids but other than Matt, he didn't have any real friends. And then somehow, Elena and Caroline had become his friends. Not that they hadn't been friends as kids, but they had drifted apart once they had gotten older. But ever since their eyes had been opened to the Supernatural aspect of the world, their lives seemed to intertwine once more. Maybe that would explain his sudden protectiveness of Elena and Jeremy. Tyler smiled with some relief as Marina assured him that he was young and allowed to make mistakes. At least she wasn't so pissed anymore. That was good. Then, his eyes clouded as she went on, saying that it was hard as she hadn't wanted to become a vampire and that she had never had good social skills, and that she had thought that someone named Chris had liked her but that he had disappeared on her. "I'm sorry. That sucks," he said. No one should have their emotions toyed with. When she said that she had thought things would get better instead of worse, he went to hug her. He could practically feel her hurt rolling off of her and he wanted to give her some comfort. When she said that it hurt to lose something that she had gotten a glimpse of something she could have only to have it taken away. "I can't even imagine," he murmured. That's gotta be hard, he thought to himself. He couldn't even imagine what she was probably feeling and thinking. But at least he was here to lend an ear. And hopefully, he could provide that ear for her. He then shook his head as she said that she was an idiot. "No you're not. You're just disappointed," he said. And she had every right to feel that way with the way everything was apparently falling apart in her life. -----------------------

----------------------- ----------------------- Nodding quietly, Mari tried to focus on what she needed to be doing, it was hard given that she didn’t really HAVE anything she should be doing. She probably could become a teacher at the local high school if she really wanted to, maybe be the librarian and teach a class or something. Her credentials were more than good enough to qualify and unlike the perpetual teen vamps of Mystic Falls, she’d be giving something back.
He was at least sympathetic to her plight and she had a serious case of the babbles but he didn’t seem to mind all that much. He even hugged her. She buried her head in his shoulder and broke down. Body trembling sobs that rocked her petite form as she stood there with him and let all the pain she’d been holding in out.
When she could finally catch her breath she inhaled with a shudder and a ragged sigh, “I should have known he was trying to play me and when he realized it wasn’t going where he wanted he skipped town.” She said with a soft hiccup from crying. She dug out some kleenix from her purse and tried drying her eyes “God I look like a hot mess.” She said with an embarrassed laugh as she tried to repair the damage that her crying had done to her makeup. She never wore all that much and she finally just gave up. She was just glad none of it had gotten on Tyler’s clothes. “I feel like such an emotional train wreck right now.” She said sadly with a slump of her shoulders.

----------------------- ----------------------- Tyler's eyes clouded as Marina began sobbing as he hugged her. Damn. Who hurt her like this? he wondered. Whoever it was, he'd kick their ass! Well, he'd try at least. There was no guarantee that he actually could. He may be a Hybrid, but he was still young in the Supernatural sense. But it didn't mean that he wouldn't try. Marina seemed like a nice girl and he didn't like the fact that she was crying like this. After several minutes, she let out a shuddering gasp and pulled back, saying that she should've known that she was being played and that he had skipped town when things didn't go his way. "That just shows what an idiot he is if he can't see what's right in front of him," he said. Man, what is this guy thinking? he wondered. It just didn't make any sense. Granted, he didn't know her all that well, but no one deserved to be reduced to this. He then watched as she took out a Kleenex and dabbed her eyes saying that she was a hot mess. A part of him wanted to make a joke saying that she got the "hot" part right, but he wasn't sure if she would understand that he was just trying to make her feel better, so he chose to say nothing. When she said that she felt like an emotional train wreck, he looked at her sympathetically. "I can't even imagine how you must be feeling right now," he said. Is this what I did to Caroline? he wondered. Oh damn. He hoped not. He didn't even wanna think about her crying like this. Not when she had always been so strong. "Do you wanna go somewhere and talk?" he offered. Oh, no. He wasn't feeling guilty at all. Not one little bit. OOC He's gonna try to cheer her up. -----------------------

----------------------- ----------------------- Tyler’s scent was odd but given how upset she was she found it oddly comforting. His statement however almost made her tear up, “He said something like that too. He said I was special and I should ignore the jerks but then he left so now I just don’t know.” She inhaled slowly and tried to clean her face as she cried for her loss. “Chris just seemed like a genuine nice guy. Guess my radar is completely off.”
She shrugged her shoulders and looked down, sniffling. “I didn’t think I’d ever hurt like this. I mean I was used to being alone. I’m used to being the weird kid no one talked to. I mean I was a nun before I was turned into a vampire so I get the being alone thing and can handle that but to get used to having someone around and then not have them there makes me feel weird. Its like listening to an echo of someone and then realizing its in your head. It just blows.”
Yes, some people waxed poetic when they were sad and Mari was one of those. She should be shivering in the cold but she wasn’t even trying to think about the weather, she just needed to get the hurt out before she took a sunshine nap without her ring. Chris wasn’t worth doing anything stupid for. “Yeah, that would probably be good. I realize you don’t know me that well so you pick the place. I’ve imposed enough on you by bawling all over you.” She said with a sad, watery smile.

----------------------- ----------------------- Tyler's words had meant to be comforting, but instead they seemed to have the effect of making Marina almost tear up again. Dang it. I was trying to keep her from crying again, he thought to himself. When she explained that her friend had something similar, telling her to ignore the jerks, his expression became even more sympathetic. Yeah, this guy had definitely done a number on her. She then said that she had thought that he was a nice guy but supposed that her radar was off. "Well, your radar wasn't off about me---whatever you thought when we first met," he told her. Well, unless, she had gotten a bad impression of him, but he rather doubted that she had. No, his bad impression came when he hadn't remembered her right away. But he was going to do away with that impression. Or at least, he was going to try to. He then listened some more as she said that she didn't think she'd be hurt again like she had been, explaining that she was used to being alone as she had been the weird kid that no one had talked to as well as being a nun before she was turned, and that she had gotten used to having Chris around and now that he was gone, it was weird again. "I can't even imagine," he murmured. Yup. She's had a sucky time of it, he thought to himself as she continued crying. After his offer of taking her somewhere to talk, she agreed with him, saying that it was a good idea and that he should pick the place since she had already imposed enough on him by crying all over him. "Let's go the library. It's quiet, secluded, and the last place anyone would think to look for me which means we won't be bothered," he said. Yup. The Mystic Falls library would be the best place to continue their conversation. And hopefully, he could cheer her up. -----------------------

----------------------- ----------------------- “Honestly, I was just trying to help out someone who needed it.” She said as she dabbed her eyes and gave him a watery smile. “I wasn’t focusing on you as dating material. Completely different mindset when I’m in tutoring mode.” She explained to him as she tried to calm down a bit more.
“Its just been hard. To finally put myself out on a limb for someone, to introduce him to people and try to get him integrated it just hurts. I’m not the most social person to begin with so yeah it’s a bit of a shocker for me.” She sighed softly and moved back a bit and placing her hands in her pockets finally.
“That would be best. That way if I get verkempt it won’t be so bad.” She said softly as she regards him solemnly and exhales as she stretches lightly. “Shall we go?” she asked softly and look past him and towards the library. She was getting used to pushing past how she really felt and showing a false face to make others happy. She knew there were things that were more important things in the world than her broken heart.
“Thank you for your kindness. I’ve not had that very often.” She said softly to him as they walked. She knew that the town was quiet. She exhaled softly and Thought onto the past as she moved forward and kept her gaze down. The bitterness that she felt from Chris’ disappearance was still shown in her eyes as she tried to work it out of her expression.

----------------------- ----------------------- Tyler listened as Marina explained that she was just trying to help him out and wasn't focusing on him as dating material, which meant that she had been in a different mindset when they had met. "I see," he said quietly. That made sense. He knew he acted differently when he was around girls that he was interested in hooking up with compared to when he was just talking with a friend. Well, you know, when he had been randomly hooking up with girls. He didn't do that sort of thing anymore, though he supposed that he could considering the fact that Caroline thought that he had reverted to his old ways and doing so would help cement the charade. But could he really do that to her? Could he really break her heart more than he already had? Come on, Tyler. You're trying not to be a dick, he reminded himself. His eyes clouded in sympathy as she said that it was hard as she had finally put herself out there for someone else, getting him integrated with other people, and it hurt as she wasn't really the most social of people to start with. "I can't even imagine," he murmured. Yep, it certainly sounded like someone had treated her like crap. So not cool. And yet, he had treated Caroline even worse by lying to her and saying that he hadn't been able to break the bond. So it wasn't like he had any room to talk. But maybe the guy had been doing the same thing he was: protecting the girl he loved. If that was the case, he certainly couldn't fault him for that. Of course, he had no idea if that was what this "Chris" guy was doing, so yeah, anyway, moving on. After his suggestion of going to the library, she said that his idea would be best as it would keep her from getting "verkempt" whatever that meant. He hated not knowing what something meant as it made him feel a bit dumb, but he had the feeling that she hadn't meant to make him feel that way, so he'd just let it slide. When she asked if they should go, he nodded. "Sounds good," he agreed and headed in the direction of the building. When she thanked him for his kindness, saying that she hadn't had it very often, he could feel his eyes flashing with some anger. No one should be treated like that. And if he had anything to say about it, it wasn't going to happen to Marina again. "Well, you're going to get it a lot from me," he promised. Now he just had to figure out a way to keep Klaus or his flunkies finding out about the new friendship. He wasn't sure what their reaction would be, but he knew that he didn't want to take any chances. -----------------------

----------------------- ----------------------- Tyler was a good friend. Or at least was on his way to being a good friend. She smiled as she looked over at him and they made their way to the library, “So enough about me and my problems. What about you? Is there someone special in your life? You seem like too nice a guy to be alone.” She said as she settled in and looked over at him. Their steps were leading them to the library, she liked that she didn’t have to travel too far to get to things here. It saved on the gas mileage and made her appreciate the scenery.
“So what’s your story? You’ve heard my recent one anyway but what leaves you out here in the cold instead of enjoying egg nog with friends or pumpkin spiced everything?” she laughed playfully as she looked at him. The commercialization of the holidays had been going on since the 19th century. Everyone thought it got worse every year but they all bought into it. It was sad really. “What sorts of things do you like to do?” she said as she put her hands in her pockets and walked with him into the library.
It was nice to just talk to a guy. Too many people were worried that if a gal talked to a guy she was going to “steal” him or some crap, insecurity at its finest folks. She’d had to put up with that one to the point that it made her scream. She hated it. Nothing killed a friendship quicker than a jealous significant other.
