----------------------- ----------------------- Tyler smiled briefly as Marina changed the subject, asking him if he had anyone special in his life as he was too nice not to be with someone. "There was. I---I screwed it up though," he replied. Yup. He had definitely screwed up. Although that might have been too mild a description. It was more like he had created a hole in Caroline's heart about the size of the nineteen-o-six San Francisco earthquake. And yes, he he had paid attention to that piece of information. So he had a fascination for things ripping apart. It didn't mean anything. Although, it could explain his tendency to sabotage his romantic life. But on the other hand, he had thought breaking up with Caroline had been necessary as he was certain that Klaus would retaliate if he knew that there was a way for his hybrids to become un-Sired to him. And he wasn't going to put the blonde-haired vampire in danger like that. When Marina pressed for details, wanting to know why he was out in the cold instead of drinking eggnog or something with pumpkin in it, he shrugged. "Needed to clear my head. I do some of my best thinking when I'm outside," he answered. "Besides, I've never been a big fan of eggnog," he continued. Frankly, he thought the stuff tasted disgusting. At her question about what interested him, he gave a little shrug. "Watching tv, listening to music, keeping in shape, stuff like that. I'm pretty boring," he told her. In fact, the only thing that was remotely interesting about him was that he was a Hybrid, but he couldn't exactly broadcast that little fact, even if they were becoming friends. "How about you? If you weren't out here, playing in the leaves, what would you be doing?" he questioned. He had to admit, it felt really nice to be able to just have a normal conversation that just consisted of getting to know someone and didn't have to say something along the lines of "So we're going to make sure we get out of this sacrifice alive". Not that he had actually had such a conversation with someone, but still, the feeling was the same. It was nice to be able to just talk to someone without plotting on how to take someone down. -----------------------

“Ahh, I see.” She said sympathetically. She really did get it with the breakup she had had. If anyone would understand it would be her. Later on when she met Caroline she would hear the other side of the tale but her friendship would keep her from meddling. She knew outright that it was a bad idea to get in the middle of romances. She wasn’t an expert by any means if her life was any judge.
Stretching lightly she nodded, “Hey don’t cut yourself short. Those are cool things. As long as you enjoy them that is what matters and to hell with anyone who says different.” They made their way closer to the library and she shoved her hands in her pockets. The weather didn’t affect her but she had to look like it did, “I love to sing. Been singing for centuries. Sometimes it and dancing were the only things that got me through life. Music gives me a way to vent my feelings and dance just is the closest thing to feeling like when I was alive. My parents had me turned when I was sick. I didn’t handle it well…”
Kicking some leaves out of her way she stared at the ground. “Always been a loner and I stick my foot in my mouth a lot. Wish I didn’t but there isn’t a lot I can do about it now.” Her eyes beganto sting and she sighed softly. They entered the library and she sighed as she felt the warmth of the building. “Better than being out in the cold.” She murmured to him.

----------------------- ----------------------- Tyler nodded as Marina made a comment that she understood what he was saying. Well, at least, that was how she made it sound. And hey, at least she wasn't pressing him for details, which he was grateful for because to be perfectly honest, he wasn't sure if he could really explain it in a way that didn't make him sound like the total ass that he had been. But honestly, it was the first thing he had come up with and in hindsight, it had been pretty stupid, but at least she had bought his lie that he was still Sired to Klaus. And that was all that mattered: making sure that she didn't suspect the truth as he tried to help Lilly-Beth and any other Hybrid he might run across. He then smiled at her as she said not to sell himself short as the things that he had listed were cool and as long as he enjoyed them, it didn't matter what anyone else thought. "Yeah, I suppose that's true," he agreed. He hadn't really thought of it that way before, and she was absolutely right. So what if he was the only one who liked those things? That didn't matter because it was something he liked to do. And he took pride in that. Well, mostly football, but...yeah...anyways. He then nodded as she said that she liked to sing as she had been doing it for centuries, and that singing and dancing were the only things that had gotten her through life as music helped her to vent her feelings and dancing made her feel the way she had when she had been alive, adding that she had been turned because she had gotten sick and hadn't taken the transition well. "At least their hearts were in the right place," he offered. Not that he knew what had gone down exactly, but turning her to keep her from dying or something was better than being turned as an experiment like he had. Because seriously, being Sired to a freakin' psychopath was definitely not fun. He fell silent as they walked on and she kicked at some leaves saying that she had always been a loner and she was always sticking her foot in her mouth, though she wished she didn't even though there wasn't anything she could do about it. "Yeah my foot loves to live in my mouth as well," he agreed. He was forever saying the wrong thing, but surprisingly, he still had some friends, even though he had just lost his best friend. And that was something that really sucked. That he had hurt Caroline. Yes, he knew that it was for the great good, but it didn't make things any easier. Then they stepped through the threshold of the library and his smile grew as she murmured that it was better than being out in the cold. "So true, so true," he agreed. Granted, he didn't feel the cold as much as he used to, but she didn't need to know that. -----------------------

----------------------- ----------------------- She shrugged her shoulders and sighed, “Well, not really. They locked me in a cell for years because of how badly I handled it. Fed me through a hole in the door. It wasn’t till they relocated my sire that I was able to understand what I was and what it all meant.” She rubbed the back of her neck awkwardly as she tried not to think of it too much.
“Soo yeah…anyway…” she said with a blush as they talked, “Its my habit to be honest and unfortunately it bites me in the ass. I’m just…well.” She sighed, “I call things as I see them and when I see people acting crappy I call them on it. Problem is…most of them don’t give a damn that they act like douchebags. So it leaves me out in the cold a lot.” She put her hands in her pockets.
She was finding it hard to know what to talk about. There was a part of her that just wanted to hide in her house and never come back out. It sounded like a good idea anyway. At least she wouldn’t be offending anyone that way. The cold air smelled of leaves and a hint of smoke from those who had fireplaces. There was that slight chill and dampness that would have sunk into her bones had she let it when she was human. Now, it was just something she noticed as she tried to think of something to say. Tyler was more popular than she realized.

----------------------- ----------------------- Tyler watched as Marina shrugged and disagreed with him, saying that she had been locked in a cell for years because of the way she had handled the transition, that she had been fed through a hole, and that it wasn't until her Sire had been relocated that she had understood things. "Well, that just sucks," he said. Man, she had had it rough and here he was feeling sorry for himself because he had been used as a test dummy of sorts. Okay, granted, it had been bad, but when he really thought about it, it didn't really sound as bad as what this other vampire had gone through. She then blushed and said that she had a habit of being honest which often came back to bite her in the ass. "Well, I could use a dose of honesty at times. I can be a complete jackass. Maybe you can keep me in line," he said. Goodness knew he needed it. He was forever doing something stupid so to have someone make sure that he didn't follow that instinct would be appreciated. There was Caroline of course, but he didn't think he'd be speaking to her anytime soon. So Marina keeping him in check would be necessary. Marina fell silent and Tyler wracked his brain for something to say. He wanted to keep this conversation going, but he didn't want to sound like he was getting too personal. "So, tell me a little bit about yourself. What kind of places have you visited? I mean, where have you been besides here?" he wondered. There. That sounded all right. He was asking about her without prying. This was good. -----------------------

----------------------- ----------------------- “Yeah, at least the honesty thing is working.” She murmured as she looked into his dark eyes. They were in the building now so she found a batch of chairs in a quiet nook where no one was going to bug them. Of course being a librarian gave her perks that few others would have and given the weather she was happy to use them.
“I’ve travelled all over. I was born in Scotland so I’ve visited the British Isles but I also travelled to Spain and Portugal. There are some benefits of living so long. You get to see the world and experience its wonders with no worries of time and age.” She said to him as they relaxed in the warmth of the building.
“As far as keeping you in line, only if you want me to. My idea of keeping someone in line is the verbal curb check. Effective but not physically brutal and usually I leave your psyche intact.” She winked back at him. She was starting to cheer up now that she wasn’t in the cold. “Where would you like to travel to, Tyler?” she asked as she looked over at him and smiled softly. “Do you have any other dreams for the future?” she asked as she got comfortable in the chair that she was relaxing in. This place was peaceful and she enjoyed it.
The warmth of the library was making her sleepy and she smiled “You’re a good person, Tyler. You’ll do alright.”

----------------------- ----------------------- Tyler nodded as she said that at least the honesty thing was working and then followed her to a secluded corner where there were some chairs and then sat down in the one across from her. Since they both had supernatural hearing, he didn't worry about them not being able to hear one another. He had to admit, the enhanced hearing was one of his favorite perks. That wasn't to say the strength wasn't nice too, but he liked being able to hear someone walking towards him. It gave him a better chance to prepare for things. And look at him using his abilities to do some good. Well, okay, not really as he had been thinking about making sure no one---namely Klaus---sneaked up on him, but hey, if he had something that could give him a possible fighting chance, why not use it? He the listened as she told him that she had traveled all over, had been born in Scotland, and had visited the British Isles, Spain, and Portugal, adding that there were benefits to living for so long, which included the chance to see the world and experience its wonders without having to worry about time and aging. "That sounds really cool," he commented. And it did. He hadn't been to any of those places. "So, what was your favorite place to visit?" he wondered. Truth be told, Scotland sounded like it' be the most interesting, though he didn't think he'd want to have to wear those skirts or whatever they were called. He was pretty sure he wouldn't like that. How could any guy for that matter? Not to sound chauvinistic or anything but skirts were for girls and a guy wearing one was just weird. Still, he had to admit, the thought of one day traveling to Scotland did sound intriguing. He then smiled at her as she agreed to keep him in line if he wanted her to, explaining that she usually did so through verbal attacks, which was effective without being physically brutal and she usually kept a person's psyche intact. "That may be just what I need at times. I can be an ass," he said with a chuckle. Yeah, he could be an ass. Just ask Caroline. Or Matt. Or Jeremy. He had a feeling that the younger Gilbert could write a book on every dick thing he had done to him. I really do need to apologize for all the crap I've put him through, he thought to himself. Yeah, he was definitely going to make a priority of making amends with Jeremy. Hopefully, he wouldn't get his ass kicked for his trouble. Not that Jeremy could if Tyler used his strength, but he wouldn't do that. It wouldn't be right. He then gave himself a mental shake as he realized that the girl had started talking again, asking him he'd like to travel and if he had any dreams for the future. "Live long enough to graduate," he deadpanned. "No, in all honesty, I haven't really thought about it yet. Scotland sounds like it'd be a cool place to visit though," he continued. "You know, as long as I didn't have to wear those skirt things or play the bagpipes," he added. His smile grew as she said that he was a good person. He liked hearing that. It wasn't something that he got told a lot. Of course, that was probably because he didn't act like a good person a lot of the time. But he was trying to be so that had to count for something, right? At least...he hoped it did. -----------------------

----------------------- ----------------------- She was surprised Tyler was showing so much interest in her. Even her own friends didn’t seem to be all that interested, “I think I liked Ireland the best. My mother was Irish so it always made me think of happier times when I went back there.” She said with a far off smile on her face as she looked back at him. It was warmer and so she relaxed a bit more in her chair. They could speak softly and no one would be any the wiser for it. “Having money helps. It lets us travel easier and smoothes over the wrinkles of passports and stuff every few years.” She admitted as she looked at him and smiled.
“Well I’d be happy to help you out.” She said quietly as she looked at him. He seemed like a nice guy from where she was sitting. Of course she hadn’t pissed him off or anything so how would she really know? The smell of books permiated the air and she got used to the feel of the place. It was nice and she enjoyed it a lot.
“You don’t have to wear a kilt. Those are decorative for the most part now. There are a few men who wear them every day but they’re rare. And in my experience they usually are American.” She’d found that some American Scotsman were more strident about their clan pride than people that actually lived in Scotland. She found it ironic. “And you don’t have to eat haggis or play the bagpipes.” She said with a chuckle.

----------------------- ----------------------- Tyler looked at Marina who seemed surprised by his interest in her, but why? She was proving to be a great girl and part of having a conversation was asking questions about the person you were getting to know. And that's what he was doing: getting to know Marina. And if he asked something that was too personal, he hoped she'd tell him. Because knowing him, he'd do it. Well, as long as he didn't ask something incredibly stupid, he supposed he'd be all right. He nodded as she told him that she had liked Ireland best, as her mother had been Irish so going back there had made her think of happier times. "That makes sense," he murmured. And it really did. He was sure if he was still alive eighty years from now, he'd look back to some of his days in Mystic Falls and smile. But first, he had to make sure that he wasn't killed by Klaus. Then, she continued on, saying having money helped as it let vampires travel easier and that it smoothed over the issue of passports every few years. "That's good to know," he mused, filing the information away for future reference. Hey, it was good stuff to know and one never knew when they might need to get out of town fast. Then, he grinned as she promised to help him out. "That'd be great," he told her. Yeah, he'd need someone like her to keep him in line. Yeah, he had gotten better about not being an ass, but he was bound to slip up sooner or later and if someone was there to make sure that he didn't slip too far, all the better. And it looked like Marina was willing to be that person for him, which was good as he didn't really have a lot of friends at the moment since he had made himself look like a jackass so that he could hide the fact that he had broken his Sire-bond. Yeah, definitely not his smartest move. However, there was nothing he could do about it now. He had made his bed and he'd have to lie in it. Whatever that meant. He then let out a relieved laugh as she told him that he didn't have to wear a kilt as they were mostly decorative in the current age, though there were a few men who wore them every day, which was rare. "Good to know," he told her. As long as he didn't have to wear them, he didn't care what anyone else did. He chuckled along with her as she went on to assure him that he didn't have to eat haggis or play the bagpipe. "Well, considering that I have no clue what haggis is, that's probably a good thing," he stated. -----------------------

----------------------- ----------------------- She could tell Tyler was listening to her with how he focused on her. So many vampires got that far away vague look but Tyler was spot on. That did a lot to boost her ego as she sat there with him in the warm library and relaxed. “You’re welcome. We’re all supernaturals in this mess together. No reason we can’t help each other out.” She said with a happy shrug.
The fact that he was actually happy that she offered to help him made her cheeks blush with happieness. Tyler had made her feel good about herself in spite of their rocky beginning. That was more than the Salvatores and Lexi could say. “Helping you out will help me feel useful.” She admitted to him, “Lately I’ve been feeling like if I decided to go sunbathing no one would miss me.” She said softly to him as she bit her lip. “Its good to have a purpose. To feel needed and wanted again.”
“Just have fun in Scotland if you go and you really don’t want to know what haggis is just trust me on this.” She admitted as she looked back at him and grinned. She leaned back in the comfortable chair and shifted her braid over her shoulder so it wouldn’t pull at a wrong point. Today had turned out well after all. Then she noticed her alarm going off on her phone and upon checking it, she sighed, “I’ve got to go. I’ve got an appointment but thanks for talking to me, Tyler.” She said as she rose and put her phone in her pocket. Smiling at him she settled her scarf, “I’ll see you around.”
With that she headed out of the library and into the cold to take care of some errands for her house. She had to get it ready for the winter and that meant some foam to cover the pipes that were outside and making sure that the gutters were clean on the roof. She knew the right people to call but she wanted to drop a check off with them first.
