-------------------------------- Chris took a drink from his thermos as he gazed up at the stars. The wind was blowing just enough to feel and the crisp night air seemed like he could reach out and touch it. It was peaceful and he took comfort in that. As well as the trees that surrounded them. It was late around two in the morning. That was as good a time as any to start his training. Sitting the thermos down on a rock he scanned the area. He would never get used to drinking blood. But it did help stop the burning pain in his throat. If only for a short time. He ran as fast as he could through the trees. Letting his new found senses guide him. He hated everything about being a vampire. And yet here he was learning how to be a better one. He leaped onto a tree branch then another. He could see the treetops and the surrounding area. Chris saw the smoke of a campfire in the distance. But smelled it as if he was besides the flame. It reminded him of his short time as a boy scout. He had to gather sticks for the fire. And to learn leadership. He quit after a week. He lit a leader on fire. He thought he should have gotten a patch. Since he used only two sticks. He had woken up from a dream just before sunset that night. The man he bit screaming. And his friends at the force calling him a monster and hunting him. That dream still was fresh on his mind. As well as the one that did this to him. A faceless evil. ---------------- Words:281 Outfit:

----------------------- ----------------------- It was dark and Chris was waiting in the woods, they were far enough off that no one would see them practicing. As he ran she sped up beside him, he was drinking animal blood like her which meant that his senses were a bit dulled. She figured it was part and parcel with the decision not to drink human blood. As they ran she moved towards a tree, scaling it easily in her blue jeans and t-shirt. “The trick to remember Chris is that your balance is so much more as a vampire. You now have an innate grace about you and this will help you not only get through day to day life but to escape capture should you have a need. You can smell anyone close to you if you know how too. You can even hear distant conversations if you focus on them. All of these are skills that vampires have used in the hunt since they first existed.”
She stared down at him from the tree she had scaled easily. Her feet in a ballet pose on one of the sturdier branches. She carefully walked across it in a way no human could before leaping to another tree with ease. “As a vampire you can now do anything or be anything you wish provided you are smart. If you take online classes, invest wisely you can now see the world and get degrees if you so choose. You can even learn a trade if you’re so motivated, but you have to make sure no one notices you’re not aging. That can get tricky. The key is to absorb what you learn quickly. After a few years it becomes second nature for us.” She explained as she stood there on the branch with her hands on her hips.
“The thing you want to ask yourself is, what do you wish to learn first and how do you want to go about it?” she said simply, “We can try hunting animals if you like?” she offered gently as she looked at him and then scanned the area. She could smell dear to the west. “Can you smell the deer?” she asked him as she waited to see what he would say. -----------------------

-------------------------------- Chris watched her as she moved from branch to branch. She was so graceful she looked as if she was dancing on the treetops. He leaned against the large tree as he listened to her. He was not sure about online classes. He wondered just how many businesspeople were vampires. He could just imagine Dracula worrying about spread sheets. And Chris was done with school anyway. As far as he knew he was smart. He was not sure if it was insult or not but brushed it off. Learn quickly she said. He did not have to worry about that. He really did not have a choice in the matter. He would do what it takes to keep from loosing control again." I joined the force to preserve justice. Not drink blood and kill people." "I want to learn how not to lose control again," He replied. "Am not sure what caused it in the first place. So I guess hunting animals would be a start." He closed his eyes and smelled the wind. He did smell something. "What is that. Oh it's bad." He made a face as the bad smell filled his nose. "That is not a deer. That would be a skunk." Chris waived his hand in front of his face in hopes of defusing the smell. He laughed as her eyes caught his attention. What was it about her eyes. Even when she was smiling they seemed sad. Her story was like his. Both forced to a life they did not want. He wondered what she looked like back when she was human. When her eyes filled with happiness. ---------------- Words:272 Outfit:

----------------------- ----------------------- “You don’t get to choose to drink blood. We’re vampires its part of the requirements.” She said gently as she looked at him, “The best thing you could do is become a private investigator if you still want to protect and help folks. Joining the force would be too dangerous; heck even becoming a PI could be dangerous, they require your finger prints.” She peered down at him from the tree looking like Jane in the rainforest minus her Tarzan.
“You lost control because you were aroused. I’m not well versed in the male form but even I can see the spark of interest that a male shows. It will just require practice. You learned it in your human form you just have to apply it to your vampiric one as well.” She said as she leaned against the tree and looked down at him. “Hunting animals it is. We start with rabbits. They are small and easy to catch. Follow me.”
With that she began leaping from tree to tree to get a good spot for hunting rabbits, “Come on Elmer. This isn’t that hard.” She teased playfully as she ignored the skunk and went for the harmless herbivore that made up the bulk of her diet. She spotted one ahead of her and gestured to Chris, “Go get him.” She whispered as she looked back and leaned against the tree to see how well he did. She wasn’t sure being close to him was a good idea right now. He was still dealing with what all of it meant. Inwardly she sighed softly. She was not sure this was a good idea at all but someone had to teach him.

-------------------------------- The idea of him being a private investigator made him smile. It could work, Be some underground dark Angel protecting the city in the cover of darkness. A nameless super hero. He wished to go back to his old job. But he knew that was out of the question. He knew most of the guys would not look passed the fact he had killed someone Or that he was an undead monster. Even though he was clean the blood was on his hands. He screams at night from the nightmares. He did not care about the danger part. If he was killed helping someone. It would be a lot better then to let this vampire infections do him in. And besides to his family he was already dead. He remembered his training at the academy. To keep his mind focused in the face of danger. Chris looked up at her. She looked so at home in the tree branches. Marina said that he lost control cause he was aroused. He blushed. Was he that obvious. "Am sorry." He replied. "It's hard to be in control around a beautiful women." He smiled. He never thought that his attraction to Marina would cause his animalistic behavior. "Be very very quiet." He laughed at her Elmer joke as he followed. Then took her queue to catch the bunny. He felt silly doing it. But the pain in his throat was on the rise. Well if he was to do this. Chris lunged at the rabbit but it hopped off. Leaving him laying on his stomach on the forest floor. "Get back here. Ok It's official am the worst vampire ever." He laughed. ---------------- Words:280 Outfit:

----------------------- ----------------------- There was a part of Mari that wished it was anyone else but her teaching Chris how to be a vampire. She really didn’t see herself as an expert in all things undead. Heck, she couldn’t even get time for her friends lately. Everything was so stupidly crazy. Lexi was with Damon and who knew what Stefan was doing? She’d gotten one text from him and seen him briefly but that was it really.
There was Lenore but with her romance was it really any better? She felt the air tease over her as she stood there in the tree and looked down at her protégé he was trying his best but she somehow doubted it would be smooth sailing, “Its okay. I just don’t believe in casual flings. Its not my thing.” She said as she watched him. It was good to set boundaries, “Besides, you are a student. I don’t believe in being unethical."
Friend zoned. Gotta love it, but she didn’t want him losing control and seducing her. She was sick to death of male vampires trying to play her. It got really old after the first hundred years and she had only gotten more fed up the older she got.
“Just pick yourself up and try again, Elmer. Focus on your prey. Hear their heartbeat and hone in on them. Then snatch and grab. Its all in the execution of the skill. I’m sure you’ll get it. Just breathe and focus."
Mr. Miazaki of the vampire set Wax on Wax off. She was certainly going to get gray hair if he didn’t get this right. She did not want to have to hunt for 2 people. That would suck. -----------------------

-------------------------------- Chris stood and brushed himself off. "Your the master, am just a padawan." Marina had been through so much in a hundred lifetimes. He only knew of five percent. He could tell she was making it clear back off. Chris was not going to push the issue. His mother always told him if it was meant to be it will. You cannot hurry love. He had paid the price. That was a lot of his passed girlfriends. The love burned out too quickly. Chris closed his eyes as the wind picked up. Marina's voice was soft and pleasant. He could hang on every word. A thump started to sound. It got louder and louder. It took Chris a moment to realize that it was the sound of a heartbeat. A very small one. He listened and focused on the location of it. His thirst grew to a fire, He could feel the pain in his mouth once more. And his eyes darkened. Chris jumped and grabbed Marina from the tree she was in. Bringing her down to the ground. Kissing her passionately as he pushed her down on the ground.
Chris snapped back to reality. He ran with all the vampire speed he had. Jumping up grabbing a tree branch and vaulting back down. His hands slamming down on the rabbit. He looked up slowly at Marina. His animalistic eyes gazed at her. But he could not hold out any longer. The sound was so loud now he could not think. The rabbit made a loud cry as he stabbed his fangs into its fur. Taking the blood into his mouth. A part of him welcomed it. Like a man in the desert being handed a cold bottle of water. But the other part was discussed. He looked up when the blood was drained. Crimson dripped from his month. Standing he felt powerful and strong. Like he could take on the world. "How was that?" His voice was deeper. ---------------- Words:327 Outfit:

----------------------- ----------------------- Mari giggled softly at the thought of Chris being her Padawan, “I’m no Jedi. I’ve been called Yoda on occasion but not a jedi.” She smirked and looked over at him. There were many different things she could think of for what she might be but she really didn’t want to be so vain as to give herself a title. “You will figure this out soon enough.” She assured him.
She watched him shift and pick up on something. He was fast she had to give him that. His features shifted and changed, the veins popping up next to his eyes as they went black from his need to feed. She stood where she was. Some vampires got territorial when they fed. If you bugged them they would feel threatened. With this in mind she stayed there and waited till he was done eating bugs bunny.
“You did good for a first kill. Now the trick is to feed without getting the blood all over your face. You’ll just have to practice but you can do it if you try.” She stayed where she was, her smile was genuine though as she viewed him from the tree. She wasn’t sure what he was going to do next but it was best to keep her distance unless he needed her for something.
So far, it looked like he had it together. He just needed to practice. That would just take time. Maybe, once she was sure he could handle the responsibility she would see about getting him a daylight ring but for now, it was better he have a controlled environment. It was safer for everyone. He wouldn’t be tempted to visit his old friends if he only had a few hours every day to be active.

-------------------------------- Chris looked down embarrassed of the blood on his face, He wiped it off with his sleeve. "Hey Marina, Why are you still up there? Is there something wrong?" He wondered if his show had scared her. But she was a century old vampire. So he quickly dismissed that thought. "Maybe it's because you know am faster then you. And if you come down. Then the padawan would over power the master." He smiled teasing her. "Can you catch me? I will be your prey. Come find me." Chris took off running as fast as he could. He used a few tress to leap off for speed. He was not too familiar with these woods. But he was not worried about getting lost. Being a vampire the fears you have as a humans are gone. It's the fears of a killer that haunts him now. Chris leaped over a fallen tree. He dodged in and out of trees. Not sure if she was behind him or not. As confused as being a vampire was. His feelings for Marina were worse. His ever growing feelings. That vision back there of him grabbing and kissing her still had his mind racing. Chris stopped at a small creek. The sound of the small body of water pouring over rocks pounded in his hears. Another thing he hated about being a vampire. His overloaded senses. He could hear the animals that hunted at night. As well as the sleeping ones. Hoping they would survive the night. He could also feel Marina as if she was next to him but when he turned around no one was there. He felt overwhelmed. He thought of his police training. Stay focused and do not let your emotions control you. He heard a deer close by and herald it's fast heart beat. It was scared of something. Was it Marina grabbing a snack? His senses were screaming. He started to run again. Not sure why or if he was running from something. He stopped in front of a small opening in a rock. It looked like some cave. He walked inside. The rock walls made it dark. But he could see that it went on for a few feet. He sat down and leaned up against the wall. ---------------- Words:380 Outfit:

----------------------- ----------------------- She looked down at him and raised an eyebrow, “You’re doing just fine. You don’t need me to chase you.” She said simply, but he was definitely trying to get her down from the tree. She shook her head and started leaping from tree to tree to track him, he was not used to his senses as much as she was. It was a simple thing to follow him and even get ahead of him in some cases. “Chris, really. We don’t need to do this.”
A couple of times she came close to tagging him but then he was moving along at a quick pace. She knew he was dealing with a lot and the last thing he needed was her getting confused with everything he was feeling. “Chris, really we don’t need to do this. This isn’t how vampires train. We don’t track each other. Race each other, yes. Track each other, no.” she sighed and rubbed her hand over her face.
Standing up in a tree she watched him near the cave entrance and then saw him slip inside, “Chris, you don’t know what is in there you shouldn’t wander into strange caves!” she called as she looked at the entrance, “If a bear rips your head from your body I am so not responsible for it. Just because you’re a vampire does not mean you are indestructible.” She sighed and hopped out of the tree, peering into the cave and getting her bearings, “This has got to be one of the stupidest things I’ve done in a long time.” She muttered to herself.

-------------------------------- Chris new she was there before he saw her. However he did sense her at the creek but did not see her. When he turned he was relived to see her looking back at him from the cave entrance. He could tell by the look on her face that she was not happy. Did she ever have any fun. Just let go to enjoy what life they had. If he was to be stuck like this at lest he would enjoy himself. He never felt like when he was running. It was as if he could fly. He loved the freedom he had. If only for a moment. "What," He said smiling. "Are vampires not allowed to have any fun. Cause if that is the case. I mean I can deal with the blood drinking part. And the no sun part. But no fun and I will stake myself." He laughed. He looked back into the darkened cave. He could feel the heat from the cave. And wearing a jacket when your extra sensitive was stupid. He took it off and dropped it to the ground next to him. His gun holster was now visible. Resting in it was his favorite police issue hand gun. It was a part of him to the point to were he paid no attention to it. "Have a seat." He said to Marina patting the ground next to him. "Pull up some dirt." why she was so strict all the time. She needed to let go. Chris knew why she did not. It was the same reason Chris had for not giving in to whom he now was. But if it was in a settings were no one was around. Then it would be alright. He looked around, thinking about her. And his new life. "So how did you take it? I mean when you found out you were a vampire. And you had to drink blood."

----------------------- ----------------------- “Its not that we can’t have fun its that we have to be careful.” She says softly as she stood there at the entrance, “People and things are fragile. We need to be mindful of that.” She murmured softly as she looked at her protégé and sighed, “Being a vampire means you have to be more controlled, more disciplined and mindful of the world. We’re considered evil because we’re an apex predator and it doesn’t change just because we want to be good. Our natures are to take what we want and damn the consequences, which means we have to question why we are doing what we do.”
She leaned against the rock wall, “I really don’t know why you’re bothering we can’t feel cold or even hot. We’re immune to such things. You’re telling yourself you should be cold so you think you are but if you concentrate, you’ll see it doesn’t feel like anything. You could walk naked in a snowstorm and it wouldn’t do much. You’d freeze but getting some blood would have you good as new.”
She didn’t know what he expected to hear. She really didn’t know what he expected from her. It hurt to be so uncertain. If she had met him apart from being his teacher it would have been better, “Coffee helps our circulation. If you want to keep your body temperature seeming normal you’ll need to drink it or something with caffeine.” Focus on the work and not on anything else. She didn’t want to think about her feelings, she had too much confusion in regards to them.
“I tried to commit suicide. Twelve times. Eventually my parents had to lock me up for five years and feed me animals through the equivalent of a doggie door. I did not handle it well. Even after I gained some of my sanity back they had to make sure I was locked down before sunrise or I would try to bolt out the door in a frenzy of remorse. I hated every moment of it. I hated what they did to me because they were too selfish and condemned me to be something that I believed went against everything I had ever been taught.
“You see I knew they would die eventually. I could hear it in their bodies. I don’t think there is a greater hell then seeing your own family and thinking about how ripping their throats out would feel amazing, or trying to compel them to do it to themselves. I was not sane for a very long time. It took them finding the vampire that sired me and having him talk to me before I could even be considered fit to be among anyone. You see, I gave up. I stopped caring. I didn’t take care of myself. I barely fed and started hurting myself because I felt like I was doomed for all eternity.
“Eventually, it got better but there were days where my mind would just snap and I’d hurt myself for a very long time, Chris. I was lucky that my parents lived to see me become a sane being but it was a hard road. If my sire hadn’t been there when they and my brother died I’d have probably gone and taken a sunbath after their funeral.” She pinched her nose and felt the tears rise, “I was lucky. My sire helped me. I know it’s a rarity among vampires but I was blessed, if you could call it that, to have one who understood what I was going through.”

-------------------------------- Chris could not believe that humens were now fragile. He was now on top of the food chain. And that scared him. He nodded at her words of caution. Chris laughed at him not needing a jacket. He was not used to his new senses. "Sorry acting like a human." Deep down he wanted to hold onto as much of his human self as he could. Then it happened. He watched her go through a range of emotions on her face as she told of her darker days Chris thought of when he wanted to kill himself. Yet he could see her locked away going insane. Her long dark hair in front of her face. Her in blood soaked rags. The room was probably dirty and smelled of blood and grems. No one should have to live like that. Chris listened to her talk about watching her family die. And he knew that was his fate as well. The next time he would see his mother would be in a casket. But after what they did to Marina it was no wonder why she did not shed a tear for them. She had not eaten anything and got sick. Her sire saved her. Marina saved him. She was like his sire. But if he finds the one who turned him he would kill them. Now he knew why she had such sad eyes. Those sad orbs that pulled him in the moment he looked up and saw her. Just like she was helping him, her own sire gave her the courage to live. He wondered what happened to her sire. Since this was the first she had talked about him. He felt as if his heart was breaking from all the heartache she faced. He did not think. And soon found himself standing. Chris walked over to her and looked into her sad eyes. Wrapping his arms around her in a hug he could feel that spark again. But was able to control it. He hoped that his arms would offer some comfort. "So sorry. No one should have went through that." He whispered in her ear. A tear fell from his eye to her shoulder. He never cries. He was not tough or macho by any means. The last time he cried was when his brother died. Lucky she could not see it. He held her gently close to him, "Am so sorry. I hope life is kinder to you now." ----------------

----------------------- ----------------------- The memory of her past caused her to get a distant look in her eyes. It was so long ago and yet compared to some out there it was a blink in time. She exhaled slowly and hugged herself, her head down as she smelt the dirt in the cave. Her past was the reason she hated caves. When you’ve been locked away for years, even if it is for your own good, you begin to hate enclosed spaces. Not that it really mattered, she was a vampire and although she knew that she could help people she knew this world would never accept them. This world hated her kind. They were hunted like rats.
It was days like this that she didn’t know how to carry on; Days when her memories overtook her and she was alone to deal with it all. She was just tired and sad. Everyone had someone to turn to or had friends and all of hers were busy. It wasn’t like she could cry on their shoulders either. They didn’t know her all that well and wouldn’t tolerate it well if she did. Her life was just hard right now and there wasn’t much she could do about it. She just had to suck it up and keep going.
She just didn’t know how to help another vampire when she was such a train wreck. She could barely take care of herself. It was stupid to think she could help someone else. Stupid to think she had the answers when she didn’t. She turned away and bit her lip after she spoke and looked down at the ground. She felt Chris’ arms around her and it was like something broke free inside her. She just started to cry. Deep gut wrenching sobs that wracked her whole body. All the pain and the feeling of abandonment seemed to wash over her and punch her in the stomach. She couldn’t have stopped crying even if she wanted to.
She couldn’t even talk for a long time. She hiccupped and tried to find a handkerchief in her pocket to dab at her eyes, “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to break down like that. Its just sometimes it washes up to the surface and overwhelms me.” She whispered before looking down at her makeup-smeared handkerchief, “I look like a mess.” She muttered quietly.

-------------------------------- "No,"Chris said just before taking the handkerchief from her hand. He wiped her tears with his thumb as he looked into her sad eyes. "Your beautiful. But don't. Don't you dare apologize. You have been through so much in your life. That if you did not cry something is wrong with you. And right now I think your perfect. Let it out, scream if you want. No one but me will hear you." He wanted to kiss her but did not know how she would take it. Given her secluded nature. He was afraid if he went to fast she would be sacred, or angry. He looked at Marina and smiled then took the handkerchief and touched her cheek gently. He whipped the smeared make-up from her face. When she was crying in his shoulder he held her tight, He felt as if he was meant to be with her. Like the pieces of the puzzle had came together. Chris did not know what his future would hold but he hoped it was with her. As lovers or friends, just as long as he was next to her. Chris stopped just in the corner of her left eye. "You know that is what I remember the most about you. Those sad eyes. When I was at the lowest point. After I had killed that guy. Am sitting on the grass and I looked up. Saw those eyes and thought I was looking at an angel come for me. In a way you were." He handed her back her handkerchief. And looked down at the ground. "What I said I meant. I'm sorry for what they did to you." He looked up at her. "I cannot change that. What I can do is give you what you have been missing in your life, happiness. And if that just means us being close friends then so be it." ----------------
