----------------------- ----------------------- She stood on the bridge overlooking the water, consumed in her thoughts. Ever since she came back to Earth from Heaven nothing was the same.Well what she wanted didn’t happen. She blew her chance with Dean long ago..even though she did also give him every opportunity to be with her all Dean had to do was say the word and she would be at his side. This time though, she would only be the annoying sister he couldn’t get away from. She ruined his date night at the bonfire, and ever since that evening Jo decided to do some serious thinking about what her next move was going to be.
As much as she didn’t want to do it, she figured that maybe packing up and leaving would be the best thing. Start somewhere new. Then the Winchester boys wouldn’t have to look over their shoulders to see if Jo was alright.Truth be told, she wasn’t alright. She knew no one here except the boys and she didn’t want to impose on their lives anymore. She felt like a nuisance and besides, she can handle herself.
She sipped on her water bottle, even though she really wanted something a little stronger to ease the pain. But as a bartender for many years, she knew it would only postpone the pain for a while. She had to think of how she was gonna break it to them. -----------------------

--------------------------------------------------Xander had various errands to run today and he did all of them. There was just one more he had to do, one that was very important to him, and that was finding Anya. He tried checking all over Richmond but he couldn't find her there so maybe he had to open his horizons and look at different towns. He knew that there was a town called Mystic Falls not too far from Richmond. He decided that, that would be the best place to search since it was close and maybe Anya didn't want to go too far. He had heard about Mystic Falls and how everyone was actually pretty much aware of vampires which was weird knowing because people in Sunnydale were just so clueless to their surroundings.
Xander got a taxi since that was his main transportation for now. He would have to get a drivers license soon or else he'd be spending a lot of money for just a taxi. He got in to the car and they were off to Mystic Falls. Once they arrived he got out of the car and started walking around. It would seriously suck to pay money again just for a drive home. Mystic Falls was a small town and he knew that there were different vampires here, ones that didn't have bumpy faces and could actually walk out into the sun so he had to make sure he was ready for whatever. He had a stake in his jacket and he had vervain since these vampires didn't care much for holy water. He hated being out on his own but he needed to find his ex.
He ventured around the town and went inside stores to see if he could find her. He felt like a major stalker right now. Xander was kind of getting tired of walking around, he decided to check one more place which was some bridge. He didn't know much about the bridge but he knew there was water there so it'd be good to just think while watching it. He walked all the way to the bridge and noticed a girl who was just standing there looking at the water. She looked about his age, maybe a little bit older. He walked towards her. "Kinda bad for you to be out here by yourself don't ya think?" He probably sounded like some creeper or a vampire trying to lure the girl.
"Sorry, didn't wanna sound creepy. Just saying you know? Whoops! My name's Xander," he stuck out his hand so he could shake the girl's if she was willing to shake his hand. "I'm kind of visiting this town for just today." He wasn't sure why he was saying all this but he had nothing to lose and he was just talking to a pretty girl. He looked over at the bridge and saw the water. It was kind of scary because you know someone could just push him in, he could swim but still the impact would hurt. He stood back from it a little, he wasn't the biggest fan of heights.
Word count: 517 Notes: I wonder how these two will react! -------------------------

----------------------- ----------------------- Jo was thinking of how to tell the boys she was leaving when a person came up to her and sounded like a stalker for a second. Jo could handle one no problem, but if he weren’t human..then it might be a different story. Then again he could just be a nice guy striking up a conversation. Being a bartender, she saw that often. There were also times of course when they struck up a conversation that they wanted a peice of her and not in the fighting sense. Jo looked over her shoulder to the man who spoke to her and said “I know your not trying to sound creepy hun, but you are” She then turned and leaned her back against the bridge looking at him. She had to admit, he was cute.
She gave him a bit of a smile when he extended his hand to her, she shook it and said “My name’s Jo well Joanna but I prefer Jo” She then asked “So what brings you here Xander..can’t be the sights, I’m new to this place and I gotta say, there isn’t a whole lot of things here except peppy high school students, and..” She then paused because she didn’t wanna freak the guy out by saying..oh and demons, vampires you know the usual oh and by the way I kill them. She then smiled again “Like I said, not a whole lot here” -----------------------

--------------------------------------------------"Well, I guess I'll take my sorry back!" He chuckled to himself. He could be such a loser sometimes. He didn't mind though, he was a loser for all of elementary and high school, he was kind of normal now since it was the adult life. Well it depended on the job and what the person looked like. Xander wasn't ugly but he was no Spike or Angel, god even Riley. Xander did have a little muscle going on but that was about it to be honest. The girl was definitely pretty and maybe he would have asked her out on a date if Anya wasn't back, but right now he would be alright with being friends with her, she seemed nice enough.
"Well...lets just say kind of complicated." He could really say that his ex girlfriend was back from the dead and that he was looking for her, it just sounded bizarre and crazy. "You're right about that Jo, nothing here," he said shaking his head. Maybe she was oblivious like the rest of the people. "The town's pretty special though." There had to be some way where he could bring up vampires and such without seeming obvious or anything. "You know, I hear this town has vampires and stuff. I also heard that basically all the adults know about them, could be just a rumour...you know?" He wasn't too obvious was he? Hopefully not.
Xander realized that he probably wouldn't find Anya here but at least he could talk to Jo, she was actually distracting him from his thoughts. "So Jo, what brings you here? That kind of rhymes. Jo and so," he smiled. He was just striking up a conversation and right now he was doing pretty well. Hopefully Jo was okay with him talking to her, he didn't want to intrude or anything. Jo was right about nothing being in this town. If it had no vampires or witches or whatever it had then it would just be some small town with ordinary people, or maybe no one was ordinary.
"Oh, don't let this eye patch fool you. I'm no pirate just a normal guy with no eye, so you don't gotta freak." He just wanted to get the eye patch discussion out of the way because he knew that would be brought up at some point. Seriously, couldn't Willow or Tara use some spell to make him have his eye back, he hated being like this. Although he got very used to it. He knew how people stared when someone didn't have what they had. He didn't like the attention his eye gave him sometimes, he wasn't the attention type of guy. -------------------------

----------------------- ----------------------- When he mentioned that he should take his sorry back it made her laugh in turn. This guy had a good sense of humour and that was always an admirable trait in a world like this one.He then asked her a question that she was definitely not expecting. He heard there were vampires. Something in Jo’s gut told her that this wasn’t the first time this guy had brought up this particular topic.Call it what you want, hunter’s instinct or female intuition or whatever. Either way she knew he was serious, even if he was trying to go another way about it.
She raised an eyebrow for a second and said “Nah the eyepatch doesn’t bug me at all, so what did it? Demon?” She asked casually as she looked at Xander. She was curious to see if her gut was wrong and if in fact he was just striking up a conversation. If he was then she mighta sounded like a total nutcase just then. Then again she could also turn it around to make it sound like a joke as well. One thing she did learn about hunting with the Winchesters, was that sometimes a good lie can save your skin.Or at least keep it on you until you had time to get away. She also had those instincts that seemed to be in her blood when it came to hunting. It was what she was made to do. To keep cuties with eyepatches like himself safe in their beds at night. -----------------------

--------------------------------------------------This girl could have known about vampires and such but Xander wasn't really going to test it, if he was wrong then he didn't want to sound like some crazy lunatic. Xander had known about vampires ever since high school and when he was introduced to them by Buffy. He had always wondered what his life would have been like if Buffy wasn't his friend or if she didn't come to town. The mayor probably would have gotten his way but really Xander probably would have been dead long before that, Buffy had saved him various times actually. Before he wasn't so appreciative of her saving him because of his man pride being endangered but now he knew that she actually did a lot for him more than some people.
Xander was shocked. She knew exactly what did it to him, well she knew about demons and all. Or maybe she was actually the crazy one. "Actually a priest did this to me. I know right? He had some evil in him that made him stronger or something," he shrugged. He was okay with talking about the priest, he had just wished that Caleb had never taken his eye out. "Pretty painful if you ask me." He remembered that pain and his scream which Caleb enjoyed very much. "Made me learn that not all priests are so loving," he joked lightly. He had wished things turned out differently but that day kind of made him realize a lot. Caleb perhaps that taking out the one eye would destroy Xander and make him depressed or just worry but it did the complete opposite. He could see more and knew a lot more, he had more insight than others which gave him an advantage. -------------------------

----------------------- ----------------------- Jo nodded her head when she listened to what Xander had told her.He didn’t try to cover what he said not even a little bit. He was either too trusting or wanted to test her reaction. Either way, this guy was smarter than he looked. Always a good thing. She figured he was a hunter who just got hurt on the job, either way what happened to him sucked but at least he got out alive. Sometimes running was the best option. She then responded, “Freaky priest huh? I’ve seen that before” She then said “So I guess now that the bubbles has been burst and swept under the rug I should tell you that I’m a hunter I fight things like whatever did that to you and I’m sorry it did really I am it’s a weight is hunters carry we can’t save everyone but it seems like you got away so obviously you weren’t alone”
She then took a deep breath. “I’m sorry alright? I have this insatiable curiosity sometimes feel free to tell me to shut up anytime now” She said with a chuckle. It was that curiousity that got her into this lifestyle in the first place, the same curiousity that got her to go off on her own. The same deal that put everything into motion for her life. In a weird way, she was grateful. In a way it changed her life. She wouldn’t take anything back for any price in the world. She died and came back. Now was definitely not the time to be taking things for granted. She gave Xander a small smile. -----------------------

--------------------------------------------------Xander liked how he could talk to someone about this. He couldn't bring it up to Buffy because he knew she felt bad for what had happened and he just didn't want to put that on her. Willow always felt sorry for him which was the last thing he needed. "Yeah, I had my friends there. You could say I'm a hunter to I guess. Well sort of. Kind of a complicated long story to be honest." There was so much that had happened to his life, he just couldn't sum it up at all, well he could try but he would only try if she asked to. Right now he was okay with what he said. "I have to admit I do pretty well on my own." He did, it was probably because he had been doing it for years.
"Don't worry about it. I know exactly how ya feel. I can be a bit curious as well. What made you get into hunting?" He kind of wanted to learn about Jo and her past. Maybe he was being too curious but hopefully she didn't mind that. He was always interested to hear about demon hunters, he was just so used to seeing slayers only and the scooby gang. He thought it was unnatural for someone to be a hunter. He knew that hunters weren't as strong as slayers, they were like him basically. Xander was experienced, he wasn't in high school but dealing with demons for those years of his life actually made him learn a lot. He was still scared of demons but he had gotten a lot better with killing vampires and actually holding his ground. Although it was hard sometimes. He could probably do a lot better fighting if he didn’t have the eye patch on. -------------------------

----------------------- ----------------------- Jo smiled when Xander mentioned that he was a hunter and that it was a long story. She said to him “When is it ever a short story? Or even not complicated personally I’d like to meet the person who makes it not complicated” She then told him “You must have done well if the worst thing that’s happened to you is your eye getting gouged, don’t get wrong that totally sucks but at least you didn’t die...now that sucks..or getting your guts ripped out by a hellhound..that sucks too” She then said “Sorry I just realized that I may have said too much sometimes I ramble on” She then took in a deep breath when he asked how she got into hunting.
Her story was rather complicated as well, it seemed that the two of them had more in common than they thought. Neither of them had anything even resembling the word simple in their lives .She had a feeling that after this her and Xander could become good friends. She definatley wasn’t going to complain about having another friend in her life. She had two best ones, one she confided in about everything and one she loved, but that was never going to go anywhere and sooner or later she would have to learn to accept that so she could move on with her life.It seemed that her meeting Xander was the first step into doing that. Maybe she should stick around and try to make a life here.Making a new friend was a great start. She was glad she met him. “I became a hunter because my mom and dad did it, just doing what they did family business I guess you could call it..my mom never wanted this life for me but it was inevitable” -----------------------

--------------------------------------------------Xander listened to Jo and was kind of shocked that she possibly died. The question is how did she come back alive? Her death was sort of natural so maybe the upper power or whatever brought her back like they brought back Tara and Ms. Calendar, it made sense in his mind. "You're right it's never short," he chuckled to himself. "Gotta say though years of surviving demons I should get a medal. Yeah, dying definitely is a downer. I've never died of course just one of my friends but she's alive now, so it's okay." He remembered the first time Buffy died and he CPR'd her back to life, he didn't even know he was good at it until he tried it on Buffy. Then the second time when she sacrificed herself for Dawn, she came back and was depressed. That year was probably the hardest year for all of them. He liked to forget that year. "So, if you died how are you back alive? Unless it's personal although I don't see how it would be then again I could be wrong, wow I don't even know what I'm saying anymore."
Xander actually enjoyed talking to Jo, although it sucked that this would mean another girl friend he still enjoyed talking to her. He wanted to get to know her better actually, she was a cool girl so why not. "That's kind of a bummer. How was it inevitable? I mean doesn't everybody have a choice in what they do? Like me, it was my choice to become a hunter because I thought my friend Buffy needed help even though she is the slayer but still I felt that maybe she needed me as I needed her." He had always thought that. He really did think that the three best friends needed each other. The prophecy said that the slayer had to fight alone but they changed that and somehow their time worked really well. The witch, the slayer, and the average guy who just had the experience.

----------------------- ----------------------- When Xander asked her how she was alive again, she didn’t have any answers for him. It was an answer she wanted for herself. But as much as she searched she found nothing. She found as if she was running out of options. She had a few in mind though. Maybe Xander could help her once they got to know each other better, but even after talking to him for a short while she felt as if the two had been old friends for years. There was just a level of comfort there that couldn’t be described. Maybe it was his nature or his sense of humour either way Jo liked the guy and hoped to see a lot more of him.
She looked at Xander and said with a bit of a chuckle “I have no freakin clue how I am back and I wish I did all I know is I’m in Heaven and BAM! Laying in a field outside of Richmond..weird I know”Then he asked how her being a hunter was inevitable she laughed a bit again at that “Well you know, I wanted to be someone my dad could be proud of and hunting seemed to be the way I could connect with him, I have an old hunting knife of his and ever since it was given to me it’s what I wanted, I just never got the courage until I met these two guys they changed my life they are my family now maybe you’ve heard of em? Sam and Dean Winchester? They are hunters too” -----------------------

--------------------------------------------------"You know, actually that happened to one of my friends. She was dead and bam she's back. Pretty weird. I'm glad she's back though." Xander was extremely happy that Tara was back, he had missed her and he knew how much Willow missed her and he just felt so bad for her. He knew that there had to be a reason why all these people were coming back to life. Just like Anya, what was her purpose of coming back? Xander was still trying to figure out why but he just couldn't put his finger on it. He wasn't going to fret on it right now though.
"So, you and your dad must have been pretty close then? I've never been close with my dad, he was drunk but it was okay because I got to go to my best friend's house everyday and watch Charlie Brown. All in a goods day worth," he grinned. He remembered his dad being a drunk and his mom being a total pushover, it wasn't a good time at all but at least he had Willow and Buffy, he usually spent most of his time with them which wasn't bad at all. He of course rarely drank because he was afraid of becoming his father. "No I have not. They got cool names though! Mine seems so boring. Xander, Xanderrr. Doesn't have a nice ring to it." He was okay with his name but he would prefer a better one. -------------------------

----------------------- ----------------------- Jo chuckled. It Ws refreshing to see that Xander could poke fun at himself. Jo always liked it when she hung out with someone who could do that. Life was much to short not to be able to have laughter in it. That she had when she hung out with him. Maybe if she did change her mind and stuck around here the two could hang again. He seemed like he’d be a cool person to hang around on a regular basis. The friends he had were lucky to have him. She thought.
Then he asked if she was close with her dad. Boy was that the understatement of the century. She worshipped the very ground that her father tread on. From the moment that she found out he was a hunter it was the only thing that she wanted to do.She just wished that she would have been able to do it with him.” Yeah we were close, he passed away a while ago it’s ok though” She said with a small smile to show him that she was over it and didn’t need his sympathy. Sure she missed her dad everyday but it was less hard now.
With a glance at her watch she realized that she should probably head back into town before the guys wondered where she had gotten off to. She just left a note in their motel room saying that she went out for a bit and not to worry she’d bring burgers for supper.Well burgers for her and Dean and a nice green salad for Sam.She asked Xander “So I gotta head into town, walk a lady to her home? And by home I mean the motel room in town?’ She asked with a smile. -----------------------

--------------------------------------------------Xander fell silent when she said he had passed away. He felt bad for her, no one should go through death, hell he's seen it more than enough times and it wasn't pleasant at all. "Wow, I know how you feel so don't worry. I lost someone very close to me she was my friend's mother and she kind of felt like she was my mother or something y'know? I dunno maybe it's just stupid," he frowned. He didn't like to think of it much, Joyce was an amazing mother to Buffy and Dawn and he had known her for so many years. It sucked when she died it was like the women that would always take of everyone was just gone.
Xander laughed. "Why not?" He started walking with Jo. He knew that he should be getting back to because it was getting late and Buffy liked it when the whole gang had dinner together so he had to make sure to be back. "This place is so quiet, cool yet creepy." This town just made him feel weird, maybe he was just used to Rome and Sunnydale. Then again he settled into Richmond pretty well which was surprising. He liked living there and hopefully the gang would stay there, he could see them living a good live here.
"So, why you staying in a motel, if you don't mind me asking of course," he looked at her curiously. Maybe that was a stupid question to ask. "Then again you just came to life so I guess you wouldn't have a house but don't your friends have one?" He felt bad for her, she shouldn't be staying in a motel. he would have asked if she wanted to stay at the boarding house but it was packed and they really didn't have any room for more. He enjoyed walking with her though and wish that this talk didn't have to end soon. "Please tell me that motel is far." -------------------------

----------------------- ----------------------- Jo nodded when Xander told her about his friend that lost someone close to them. It was a regular occurence when you have a hunter's lifestyle unfortunately. It was never an easy thing to deal with but it did happen sometimes despite your best efforts to protect those you love. She said to him as they walked "No it doesn't sound stupid, I get it sometimes you spend more time with people and they become your family that I understand all too well. it's never easy losing people then having to watch your friends go through the pain of the loss death is always a sucky thing no matter what way you look at it"
He then asked why she was staying in a motel. She chuckled a bit, "well I'm staying with those two guy friends of mine and we travel to do hunts so a motel is good becuase we dotn have to worry about cooking..or tidying up or worry about waking anyone when you get in a four am from a rough night it has everything I need right now..running water..power..bed all good things I'm not a hard one to please..as long as I can have a hot shower in the morning it's all good" She said with a smile. It would be nice to have a place of her own but she knew that it was going to take some time, especially if she was going to leave town like she was thinking about. She didn't wanna drag the guys down..they had so much on their plates the last thing that they needed was her to worry about. She could handle herself just fine, but she knew that no matter how many times she tried to explain that they would still worry and truth be told she would do the same. -----------------------
