Spike bristled as his sire was brought up. If Angel was going to have the gall to do that, at least he should get the story straight, ”What a load of bollocks—It bloody well did break my heart when Dru left me, but at least I did something! I’d have gone to hell and back to make her want me again, and that’s about what I did going back to Sunnydale. And as I recall, there the two of you were, trying to play nice with each other. Now you can’t even be bothered to do that?” The blond vampire snapped out at Angel, barely keeping himself from truly raising his voice. Spike could tell that both of them were struggling not to upset the little vampire in the corner, but things were not panning out so well. Things were going to come to blows, as they often did when it was him and Angel. But Angel refuted Spike calling him out, adding a barb that Spike thought he might have been prepared for. Willow had brought it up not that long ago. It had been pulled from the dark recesses of his mind where he hoped it would stay, never to be examined again. And while it had only hurt him when the witch had reminded him, Angel throwing it in his face created a severely more complex feeling. The pain was still there, layered in with the fear and shame, but there was frustration under it as well. That had nothing to do with the matter at hand, and Angel was only using it to tear Spike down. At least Willow had couched her stab in slightly softer terms, but Angel was as blunt as a butter knife. But it was effective, because as much anger he had, Spike could express none of it. There wasn’t a thing he could say, not even a stutter. He hadn’t been prepared at all. He just felt trapped. Despite this, Spike kept his gaze steady, Angel’s next verbal jab only infuriating him more. He wanted to say something in return, something about how her gender had nothing to do with it, that Buffy was Buffy and she could handle anything Spike tried. But for obvious reasons, he couldn’t say any of it, even if it was mostly true. But the blond vampire did not move, his expression still clearly reading that his offer to fight anywhere, anytime still stood. And as he saw Angel’s hands close into fists, Spike recognized that such a fight would probably end up very badly for one or both of them. But, Spike was still indignant. Angel had no right to punish him for that, not now. He gathered his thoughts and finally managed to speak again, ”Go on then. Play the hero.”He only half-expected Angel to take a swing at him—the other thing he could have done was throw him back. A punch was easier to dodge, but the other vampire was probably still hopped up on something, and his fist managed to catch Spike’s cheekbone. He felt off balance for a second, but Spike forced himself into a fighting stance, unsure if he would be able to retaliate or if he would have to continue to defend. But it seemed neither would happen. Buffy unstuck herself somehow, and though she couldn’t look at either of them, Spike knew that the Slayer meant what she said. It drove him crazy but it also put him back into focus. Though he couldn’t bring himself to look at the little vampire and he knew that what her brother said would probably break their friendship, he couldn’t wish any pain on her. Things wouldn’t be alright, but they would be better if Spike removed himself. And he could go reflect on his past where no one was trying to kill him. Without a word, Spike backed away, eyes cast down. He slid past the Slayer and climbed the stairs, not breaking his stride until he exited the boarding house. He wasn’t sure where he was going, but he figured no one needed him here now. +++ TAGS: Kathy, Willow, Angel, Buffy WORD COUNT: 690 NOTES: I think Spike just exited the thread.

atheryn 'Kathy' Anne O'Connor shivered. She didn’t like this AT ALL! It was dumb. Why did everyone always have to fight? She knew that Angel and Spike had issues but she didn’t know what any of them were. She hadn’t had a chance to ask her brother and Spike wouldn’t tell her. Well, he said that if Angel gave him permission to tell her everything that he would, but seeing the two in the room together for the first time she had a feeling that hell would freeze over before Angel gave Spike permission to tell her anything! Being a kid sucked monkeys sometimes! She heard Buffy's best friend telling her that it would be alright but she didn't know if she believed her. Sure she knew that her brother, Spike, and Buffy all trusted her, but how could she promise that everything would be okay? There was no way to always predict the future and make sure that it turned out right. If that was the case then there would be no pain and suffering in the world. She knew that unfortunately these things sometimes happened but that didn't mean that she had to like it...not one damn bit! She nodded her head, wishing she could go hide in her room under a blanket until it was all over but scared that if she left she would never see anyone again. So instead she stayed where she was and watched the scene in front of her unfold. She was confused at the almost sneer that her older brother shot at Buffy, not understanding how they could be fighting already. The night that his soul had gone bye bye they were almost perfect in their happiness, so what had happened that he was mat her now? She’d have to figure that question out later. She heard the term rape but it didn't register to her thankfully. She didn't understand what was going on (though if she would have heard everything that had been said she would have figured it out) but she didn't catch it which happened to be a good thing for everyone involved. She may have only been eleven and she may tend to act more like a child than an adult, but people tended to forget the fact that she had lived on her own for over two hundred years so she did know the way the world worked, she just tended to ignore it most of the time. She watched Spike walk out and turned to glare at everyone else in the room. “I’m going to bed. Wake me up when you guys act more like your own age and less like mine!” She told them with a pout before stomping off to her room, slamming the door behind her before falling on her bed with a sniffle, not understanding anything that had happened that night. - - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -She wasn’t even sure what had just happened to be honest. It had started out hell and just ended in…she didn’t even know. She knew that Spike and Angel would most likely have come to blows had it not been for Kathy being in the room, and even then the only reason they didn’t was because she wasn’t at all quiet about what she preferred. She knew neither of them had backed off for her alone and she didn’t berate them for that. Angel had every reason to hate her and Spike had every reason to be furious with her…the knowledge of both of those things though didn’t make the situation any easier.
Hearing Spike slam the door upstairs and then seeing Kathy upset and slamming her door to her room she realized she had to get out of there. There was no way she wanted to be alone with Angel at that moment…maybe not ever again. “I need to patrol.” She stated softly before simply heading up the stairs. She didn’t bother looking at Willow or Angel, didn’t bother calling out a goodbye to Kathy. She needed to get the hell out of dodge and let herself be alone. She could use about fifteen more showers in the process but doubted she would get them. She couldn’t go back to the apartment for fear that either Spike would be waiting there or Faith would be there and want to know what the hell was going on.
Instead she left her car there (with the keys on the seat so Willow could drive it home) and headed on foot towards the woods. She didn’t want to head to the cemetery for the same reason she couldn’t go back to the apartment, so instead she headed towards where other vampires tended to hang out and figured she would do a bit of patrolling there. Unfortunately she barely made it to the woods before she broke down. If anyone would have seen her that night they would have realized they were witnessing the strongest warrior alive breaking down into a lifeless woman that they wouldn’t recognize.
However no one did see her, no one would ever know how bad she felt, how much in that moment she wished she was anywhere but in Richmond Virginia. Unfortunately for warriors, most wishes weren’t granted…and in that moment…she knew hers weren’t either.
