athryn 'Kathy' Anne O'Connor Walked out of her hotel room. She hated night time. It had become extremely dull over the last few centuries. It was always dark out…and she had been a child who thrived in the light. She had always risen when the sun was barely over the horizon and didn’t come inside again until it had settled down for the night. Her brother used to always tease her that she was trying to make her face darker with the amount of freckles she got, especially in the summer time, because she had always been one to be outside for as long as she could. She couldn’t help it though. Everything was beautiful during the day. The sun shining out on the water, the small breeze you’d get on a warm day in the late spring. The way that you could see your shadow because of the sun. It had always been a favorite past time of hers, simply laying around in the front yard in the sun…and now…it was impossible. She hated it, because the night time made her feel even more alone. If she were able to be out in the sun maybe she could find friends, or at least walk amongst those who wouldn’t know she was stuck at an age that allowed very little in her life. Unfortunately though, she could not…so she took what she could get. She used to love the night as well though when she was human. The evening and night time were a different type of beautiful. Everything was dark and mysterious. The world was a different place at night, and it had always fascinated her as a human child. Not anymore. She knew better now. She knew what was out at night, because she was one of those things that was out. She knew how dark and scary the world could be, because she had seen it. She had barely escaped several attacks because of her age and the fact that she had been out by herself late at night. She hated it…and what was worse, she hated being alone in it. Even as a human, she had been scared of the dark before bed. She loved looking at the night time but never wanted to close her eyes during it. The only advantage about her situation was that she didn’t have to sleep during the night; she was able to sleep when it was light out. However, being out in the night was even worse sometimes. She wished she had her brother’s hand to hold like she used too when she was a human…but again, she hadn’t found him. She sighed again as she stepped into the cemetery. She wasn’t sure what it was that drew her here…but she liked it. It was calming in a morbid way. This was actually a different cemetery than the one she normally frequented…however when she went by Mystic Falls Cemetery the night before there had been people drinking and partying and she didn’t need to get in the middle of it. So to save herself she decided tonight she’d come here, give Mystic Falls a few days reprieve. She took a sip of her soda that she was carrying as she walked around, looking at different headstones. Some of them were more fascinating the others, usually the ones that interested her were the ones that were older than she was. One caught her eye and she leaned down, brushing some of the leaves off of it. It was an infant, one who hadn’t even been named for all it said was ‘Infant Female’ on it. She died the same day Kathy herself was killed. A breeze picked up and even though the wind didn’t bother her, she wrapped her jacket more securely around herself, suddenly feeling more alone in the world than she ever had before. - - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -It had been a short day so far. She had left Dawn and Willow at the house to let them finish unpacking…well…Willow was pretty much done with her room thanks to magic. Dawn hadn’t really started, so she had left Willow in charge of helping her. They needed to look normal in case someone came by to look at the house. The house was for rent only because no one could afford to buy it with the housing market the way that it was. She and Giles had discussed buying it if they ended up staying longer in Mystic Falls than a month. The rent on it was astronomical and it would be cheaper in the long run to buy the damn thing instead of renting it. It would also work out well if the potential that they were here for (though she had gotten a phone call earlier in the week stating that the coven was trying to locate others who were in the area) decided she didn’t want to train at the school and wanted to stay in Mystic. This way the watcher (whether it be Andrew or another) would already have a place to stay while he worked with his new slayer. It would be easier in the long run, and that’s what they had pretty much determined. She still hadn’t asked about paperwork or anything yet because she wasn’t sure how long they were staying…but it was a definite possibility in the near future.
She sighed as she walked out of the store where she had picked up a few items that would be needed over the next several days. She was glad she bought a cooler as she had stopped by the butchers to grab Angel some blood. It sucked having to go out of town to get certain things she needed, but with the way that Mystic Falls was with supernatural stuff, she didn’t need any trails leading towards her and her group. They were already talking about each of them getting some sort of job in order to try and blend in more. She wished she had thought to bring one of the girls who was already trained but didn’t have a watcher only because she could enroll her in school and she could keep an eye out on the students while Buffy herself kept an eye out on the teachers and the teacher’s point of view on the students. There was only so much students would tell a guidance counselor (which was the job that she was planning on applying for, while Willow was either going to apply for the librarian position or the teacher position for computer technology.) Either way they’d have to deal with it themselves versus letting someone else do it for them. She wasn’t sure what Andrew was going to apply for but either way they needed to make some sort of plan and soon because the longer they just stayed in the house the more suspicious they looked.
As the slayer got into her rental car (she made a mental note to look into buying a new car to keep in the states as she wasn’t a huge fan of the rental she was driving at the moment) and looked at the time. She had planned to meet up with Angel in the Mid Rivers Cemetery only to keep a low profile in Mystic Falls. She knew that Angel had to be even more careful than she did as he only came out at night. It seemed the locals were a bit more versed in vampire lore than the locals of Sunnydale were and that was something she definitely needed to keep an eye out. She didn’t need to have survived everything (The Master, Acathla, Ascension, Adam, Glory (well…sort of), being shot and The First) just to be killed by some local town person who knew a bit too much about what went bump in the night. It would definitely kill any street credibility that she liked to think that she had.
She drove towards the cemetery but noted it was too early for Angel to be there yet as the sun hadn’t even fully set over the horizon. She drove around the town for a bit, noting different things that were there that she hadn’t looked at when she had driven through. She noted a few stores that Andrew could apply for, but dismissed the idea. She wanted them all working in Mystic Falls if she could get away with it. She needed that town to be their focus. She also needed to call Fed Ex and see when their laptops were being shipped. All their information on the potential slayer and this town in general were on their laptops. Willow had convinced Giles that they needed to have backups on computers in case something happened and the council was robbed again. Giles then in turn pointed out (he was still against computers) that it had been him who robbed the council and why would he feel the need to rob it now that he ran it…but in the end Willow won (with the help of her and Xander of course).
All of them felt sort of lost without their laptops; though she had a feeling Willow did especially. They would have usually brought them with them, but after receiving a new shipment of books in the day before they left Rome, the three left their computers there until the new books were scanned and converted into eBooks that way they would have all the same information. Unfortunately it was taking longer than they had anticipated and they were all at a loss.
She noted the time again and realized she was now running right on time. She cursed under her breath when she realized she couldn’t park her car at the parking lot. She drove around and parked her car at the local bar, noting that the parking lot was packed and no one would notice another car there. Slipping away from the bar she quickly headed towards the cemetery and once there she stood outside the gates, partially hidden behind a tree. This wasn’t Sunnydale and neither Angel or her had been here before so best wait for him here rather than either of them trying to find each other in the dark. It wouldn’t be a problem for him (nor her really) but it was just easier this way.

-------------------------------------------- Things had been going alright for Angel in Mystic falls so far. Since he'd arrived things had been a bit tense between him and Buffy, though at their initial meeting they'd been quite glad to see each other. It was odd living with her for the first time really, even though there were many other people whom also lived in the house. One of those people he'd discovered had been Faith which was a nice surprise. He'd known that Faith had come to help in Sunnydale but honestly, he hadn't thought that she would stick around. The fact that she had showed wonders for her character and for that he was glad. He had been one of the only people (or the only person really) that had always stuck by her side and supported her. It would be good for the potentials to have another experienced slayer around to learn from as he knew that Buffy was pretty busy these days.
Lately his days had been pretty sleep deprived, being around Buffy had been wearing on him. It wasn't that he didn't want to be it was simply that it was hard to be. So he usually just read one of his books that he'd brought until finally he could catch an hour or so of sleep. One of the nights, he'd chosen to go talk to Willow. Everyone else was asleep but seeing as the night was his lively time, he'd been wide awake. Another night, he'd spent some time with Faith catching up. Here he was the next night, waiting for the sun to fall.
He was in his room, big surprise, reading a book. It was a book about demonology and myths back in the 1600's, a book he'd had with him for a very long time. He'd read it before of course but it never hurt to brush up on his demonology. Awhile after he'd been ensouled, he'd taken it from a library in England. He figured if he was going to be good and fight the evil, he should probably know something about it. The book talked about the basics of the supernatural world such as vampires and werewolves, and also the rarer of the supernatural species. What was odd was that it even had a chapter in it about slayers. Seeing that it had been written in the 1600's, it didn't surprise him that the book spoke about slayers as if they were feral murderers.
Later tonight he was supposed to be meeting Buffy at a new cemetery in another town. They agreed to check it out together as this town wasn't like other towns. From what he'd heard from Buffy and Willow, the people here seemed too know a bit (a bit too much actually) about the supernatural world and its species. He continued to read his book for a bit longer and by the time he noticed he had to leave, he only had around fifty pages left. That wasn't bad considering it was a book of around eight hundred pages. He'd been reading it for awhile, but it was still nice to know that he was a skilled reader. It saddened him to think that books were 'going out of style' these days. Everything was computerized which was fine with him, but he believed that books were still important. A lot of them held very important history that couldn't be seen through a computer screen.
Putting his book in the nightstand next to his bed in the guest room, he stood up and went over to his suitcase. He had just pulled the suitcase out of his trunk the other night. Before this, he'd been wearing clothes given to him by Buffy which had previously been his. He'd had a suitcase the entire time but hadn't had the heart to turn them down. For some reason, he could tell that she wanted him to wear them. So he had, and right now, they were sitting in a stack on the top of his dresser. He knew that she would probably want them back but he would give them to her another time.
Opening his suitcase he found a pair of black slacks and a black, small v-neck sweater. He threw them on and topped them with his signature black trench and black dress loafers. The loafers were prada and had been left over from when he'd been the ceo of Wolfram & Hart. They were the most comfortable pair of shoes that he'd ever owned and even though he'd left that life behind, he'd felt obligated to take the shoes with him.
He passed some of the potentials in the house while walking out to his car. They seemed intrigued by him but he just smiled and walked right by them, not rudely, but he didn't want to be late meeting Buffy. Starting his engine he backed out of the driveway and went on his way.
Driving through the town he noticed that it reminded him a bit of Sunnydale. It was a small town and had small plazas along the road, most were small and seemed a bit old yet modern at the same time. Finally he made it to the next town over and noticed a bar that was packed, and Buffy's car. He parked two spots over from Buffy's car and then walked over to the cemetery. When he arrived, he seen Buffy standing at the entrance and moved over to stand next to her.
"Hey"
He looked around and through the gate into the cemetery. Silently, he wondered if he should break the lock or just jump over the fence. While deciding this, he noticed he'd only brought one stake with him and nothing else. If something came up he would just have to improvise. --------------------------------------------Tag: Kathy, Buffy Word count: 969 Notes: ---- Credit: To Admin Britt for all of the amazing graphics!

atheryn 'Kathy' Anne O'Connor sniffled. She tried to stop the tears from flowing, but to no avail. She had no idea what was making her so emotional about this particular headstone, but it was nonetheless. She had seen infant headstones before, and though they saddened her, she had never had this specific reaction. She had never cried over an unnamed child before, though had felt like it several times. She had a feeling it was the date of death, which could be understandable. She had been meant to die on this same day, but had been saved…not by the grace of god, but because of a vengeful woman who wanted to make sure she had the monster that she had created right where she wanted them. Kathy had always assumed that the monster that her brother had been turned into had been a good pet to the woman who had turned her, for the woman never came back to seek her out. Granted, Kathy had left only days after she had arisen from her grave, but the sentiment was still there. She was glad that the woman had never come back for her because she didn’t want to know what she would have been used for. She had no idea if the woman was still alive, though she lived her life in fear every day that she would return. She’d never admit to anyone else other than Anthony that she still had nightmares. She had nightmares of the woman with blonde hair and an evil smirk coming to her one night and telling her that her brother needed her help and she would have to help him. Kathy would scream and cry, begging the woman to leave her alone to no avail. The woman would always hurt her in some way and then take her to the demon who wore her brother’s face and they would torture her together. She always woke up screaming, and she hated it. She hated that she was terrified that her brother would still be the same monster that killed her. When she spoke of this with Anthony he had asked the most logical question. He asked her why if she was so terrified, had she spent the last 200 plus years searching for him. He had asked why not just live her life (or eternal life) as best as she could without thinking of her brother. She didn’t have the answers to those questions. She wished she did for the knowledge may have freed her, but she had no idea. She heard footsteps on the earth and she stiffened. She had no idea how long she had been sitting there, but apparently it had been long enough since when she arrived there had been no one around. She heard a twig snap and she leaned over, her breath coming in short waves. She hated being afraid of everything, but she was. She was a child in all actuality, though she had lived over 200 years. It still didn’t change the fact that she wanted someone to take care of her, and she had no idea where to get that. There were two scents coming near her, one was vampire and one was human. The vampire scent was mixed with something that was familiar to her, though she had no knowledge of why. She didn’t want to fight, because she knew she would lose. She was usually good about knowing when something was coming and either running or hiding, but she had been so lost in her thoughts that she hadn’t given it any knowledge…it was something she regretted now. - - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - - She felt Angel as he approached, and from the look on his face she could tell he was distressed. There were no outward appearances, but someone who had spent an unmeasured amount of time watching him, she knew what the look on his face said, or didn’t say as the case may be. He was wearing his mask, one she knew well, and one that she hated more than anything. She hated that they had to be like this. She missed the days where he would meet her in the cemetery, pull her to him, have a nice little make out session and then help her patrol. She missed the nights where they would go back to his apartment (or the mansion) after patrol and they would simply lie in bed or on the couch and either watch tv, talk, or sometimes Angel would read to her. She cherished those memories more than any others that she had (with the exception being her 17th birthday and their forgotten day) and wished she could have a repeat of them. She knew it was dangerous, and knew that Angel (nor herself) would ever get over it if they let something happen…but she couldn’t help wanting to be selfish for once.
In the time since she had been called as slayers she had lost a watcher (Merrick), her parents had gotten divorced for fighting so much over her issues, gotten expelled from school, had to move to a new town, fallen in love, her lover turned evil, she had to kill her lover, got kicked out of her home, got expelled again, ran away, gotten her lover back only to know that they couldn’t truly be together, her lover had left, she had to blow up the school, had died saving a sister that wasn’t supposed to exist, had been ripped out of heaven, had to watch people around her die and had to watch as a town that had come to mean a lot to her was blown up. Just since she had known Angel she had watched him deal with many things as well (also hearing many things from Willow who heard them from Wesley or Cordelia). He had turned evil, had the memories of what his evil counterpart had done while he was in control, had been given his soul back only to be sent to hell by his lover, had been brought back from hell only to find out it had been the first evil who was trying to force him to kill his lover, had to leave his lover, had to start a new life in a new town, had lost a friend, had killed people, his sire had been brought back and almost drove him crazy, and many other things that she knew had happened that she didn’t know about.
She hated having the whole world on her shoulders. Why couldn’t they ever just be happy? The damn powers had taken enough away from both of them, why couldn’t they just let them have this one thing? The powers acted like if they allowed them to be happy that they would stop fighting for the good side. It was ridiculous! If anything, if they were able to be happy then it would provide them with more reasons to continue the good fight and try as hard as they could to win. There had been many fights where Buffy had wished she could just give up. During the final battle in Sunnydale she had been slashed across the stomach and had told Faith to hold the line. She knew then, it was the end. Unfortunately she cared too much.
She saw the potentials…slayers then…dying around her. She heard the screams, the fighting. She smelled death all around it and her made her spring into action. It wasn’t fair, but then again, when was life ever fair? She had really thought that her time had come with the Glory episode, but then again, that wasn’t the powers. She couldn’t blame them for it, she could only blame those she loved and she had forgiven, though not forgotten, long ago.
She sighed as he held out his hand, and she saw the tension in his figure. She wasn’t sure what was going on. She heard him state that he had a feeling about tonight, but she had no idea what that meant. She could tell he felt odd, just by the way he was standing. She could feel vampires around her, though one felt weaker than the other. She figured it was a newly arisen vampire and vowed to take care of that one first. Maybe the vampire hadn’t killed anyone yet and she could save someone before they were taken from the world. “There are vampires in the cemetery, big shocker.” She told him, knowing that he could most likely sense them better than she could but feeling the need to make conversation anyway. “You Ready?” She asked him, placing her hand in his and squeezing it. It was familiar, the way that they were. She could simply walk with him hand in hand and never have any other expectations. It was nice, if not a little sad.
She pulled Angel with her, heading towards the presence of the weaker vampire. She looked around, not seeing anything at first. Then a motion caught her eye. A young girl, couldn’t be any older than 12 was seated against a headstone, looking as if she was crying. She could tell just by the way her senses were buzzing that the girl was a vampire, but the slayer had no interest in killing her. The presence surrounding her was one almost like Angel…one of goodness…one of….she didn’t know how to describe it. She pulled on his jacket and motioned with her hand. She looked at him, trying to convey what she was thinking. She almost wanted to leave and not bother the girl, but she knew she couldn’t do that. It could be a trick, just like the Anointed one.
She watched as the young girl stood up, seemingly going extremely slow. She was confused, as usually by now a normal vampire would have stated that it would be the last thing she ever saw before lunging. She watched as the girl turned around and her eyes widened. She would the most beautiful child she had ever seen. Her facial structure almost identical to the man standing next to her, though her eyes were a clear blue. Her hair was dark, though it was night time so she had no idea if it was dark blonde, dark brown or black. She was confused as to why this young girl looked like Angel, but didn’t say anything. She could see that the girl was looking her over, and she tensed for a bit as she did. She watched as the girl’s eyes left her and trailed up and down Angel before landing on his face. A gasp left her and she was confused. The young girl looked close to tears and she didn’t know why. She turned her head to Angel and waited for his reaction. She hated being confused, and would usually demand to be told things. However in this instance, something inside her was shouting to just keep quiet an watch things unfold.

-------------------------------------------- Buffy told him that she sensed vampires in the cemetery and he nodded, though he'd already known. Vampires always knew when they were among others of their own kind, it was just how it had always been. They could sense each other's presence from a pretty decent distance away. Angel had always wondered if when other vampires sensed him, if they could sense his soul as well. He knew that both Willow and Buffy could feel his soul in his aura. Willow could because of her powers with magic and her experience with reinstating his soul. Buffy could simply because of their bond, their bond was matched by no other. Now that he was thinking about it, he made a mental note to ask Spike sometime. He and Spike weren't exactly friends and often got into minor tussle's but he was the only one that he could really think to ask.
When she squeezed his hand, he felt sparks fly through his entire body. Her touch was the only thing he'd ever felt that made him feel alive again. Though he'd had flings since his relationship with Buffy, nothing had ever felt as good as her skin on his. The only woman that had gotten remotely close was Gwen Raiden and that was only because her powers could momentarily make his heart beat again. If it weren't for that, it would have been Buffy alone on that list. In his heart, he still considered Buffy the only one that owned a place in it forever.
Making their way over the fence, he walked side by side with Buffy still holding hands. Neither of them walked in front of one another. They kept the same pace and stayed side by side. It wasn't exactly out of respect or anything or just because they were holding hands. It was more that they seemed to always be tuned in with each other's rhythm and body fluidity. When they fought together, it was like a symphony put on by an orchestra. They moved together almost as closely as if they were one person and in a way, they were.
When they got closer to the vampire they'd sensed, a smell hit the air and made it's way to Angel. As it traveled through his system and made it's way into his brain, a light went off in his head. No...It can't be, it's not possible.." he thought to himself. A million questions ran through his mind. The smell was that of his younger sister, Katheryn. He knew that it couldn't possibly be her. He remembered the night that she died, the night that he killed her, his own sister...
Darla had just turned him not too long ago and he was seeking revenge on his father. At the time, he was a new vampire and was being led by Darla, one of the most evil vampires around. His hunger was so immense that he felt like no matter how many people he drank, he could never feel full. When he made his way to his house tonight, Darla was in his hear, luring him to his baby sister's room. "Think, Angelus, how sweet she will be..." the demon inside him couldn't resist, and so he went to her room.
From outside her window he called to her and she hesitantly came to his calls, though she seemed very frightened. The second he was invited in he grasped her and drained her until her small, weak body went limp. Angelus felt no remorse after wards and continued on to kill both of his parents, even his mother whom had always loved him and supported him.
Once he was cursed with a soul, his sister was the first thing that poured into his heart. It wasn't the gypsy that he'd murdered that night or the hundreds of people he'd drained over the years, it was his baby sister. He hated himself so much for ending her life that he had wanted to end his own. After meeting Whistler, Whistler then helped him come to terms with what'd he'd done. He told Angel that Angelus had killed Katheryn, not Angel. That he had no control over the soul-less demon inhabiting in him. Even though Angel had known that it was true, he hadn't wanted to believe it; he'd rather suffer than accept the death of his beloved sibling.
Through the darkness he saw as the young girl stood up and finally, he could see her face. It was her and yet, it couldn't possibly be her at the same time. He knew for a fact that he'd drained her until death. Her small body had sagged in his arms and her veins had run dry. Yet, here she was, standing before him and slowly walking to wards him. Beside him, Buffy stood silently with a confused look on her face. The resemblance between Angel and Katheryn was obvious and he was sure that she'd spotted it.
Dropping down to his knees, he signalled for her to come to him. "Katheryn? Is it really you?" His eyes searched her own for answers, her blue eyes definitely had belonged to Katheryn. But how did this happen?
All of this was extremely shocking and confusing. Angel had drained her but he knew for a fact that he hadn't given her any of his blood. As he tried to recall that night, a new idea popped into his mind. Darla. She'd been with Angel that night and had accompanied him to Kathy's room, though she hadn't followed him after wards to his parents. Why would she not have told him what she'd done? Back then, they had told each other everything and had done everything together. Besides, what use would Darla have for a child-vampire? Was she really just that evil? Looking into his sisters eyes he was horrified. The life of a vampire had been difficult enough. To be a vampire-child had to be far more difficult to deal with.
"Darla..." and this was all he said because he knew that if his suspicions were true, she would know what him saying her name had meant.
He was absolutely mortified right now, seeing his beautiful, innocent and pure baby sister in the body of a demon. As she moved closer to him he noticed something else; she seemed...to have a soul? How this happened would be a story for later, right now he just wanted to hold her and confirm that it was actually her and not just a figment of his imagination.
When she was finally only an arm's length away, he grabbed her softly and pulled her into his arms. "I'm so sorry" he sung to her, talking quietly though he was sure Buffy had heard him. God, what would Buffy think of him if she knew that he'd been responsible for this?
Hoping that he wasn't scaring her, he held her tightly and put his hand on the back of her head gently. Pulling her head onto his shoulder, he leaned his cheek against her head and hoped that she, by some miracle, didn't completely hate him. This was pretty much an impossible feat after what he'd done but hey, he had to try.
He did know one thing for sure; he would never be apart from her again. She was his angel now.

atheryn 'Kathy' Anne O'Connor stiffened. She stood slowly, trying to show the people behind her, she could now feel eyes boring into the back of her head, that she wasn’t a thread. She turned around slowly, her hands hanging limply at her side. She would give these people no reason to attack her. Her eyes came upon the face of a young blonde girl who looked young until you looked into her eyes, which seemed older than even she was. Her eyes followed the girl, looking her up and down until she noticed the presence next to her. She looked at the man from top to bottom until she rested on his eyes and a gasp left her mouth when she realized what was going on. She was staring into the brown eyes of her older brother. Her mind was immediately taken back to her past. The eyes that she knew as well as anything she’d ever seen. The eyes she could still read like a book. Those were the eyes of her brother, not of the monster who had killed her. A choked sob caught in her throat, but she didn’t seem to notice. She simply stared at him. She could feel her eyes welling up and angrily wiped at them. She didn’t want her vision being clouded…she needed to be able to see him. She needed to stare at him as long as she could, for fear that this was a dream, a terrible dream that would ripped apart as soon as she looked away. She felt like if she lost sight of him she would realize that it was her memory playing tricks on her. The memory that had been long dormant in her mind came back full scale. It wasn’t anything special, just a memory. A memory of the two of them playing in the yard. She was 3 and he was 18. She was running around giggling, her hair flying out behind her. He was running after her, pretending to be a monster, pretending to not be able to catch her. Obviously he could have caught her, but she didn’t realize that at the time. It was one of those things that she had always cherished about their relationship. Where most men his age were out with their wives and children (it was a different time back then), he still liked the run around and play with his sister. She finally let a sob break out as she realized that it was really her brother. Her eyes scanned over him as she took in his full form. He was bigger than she remembered, which was ironic since technically he hadn’t grown any since the last time she had seen him. His hair was shorter, and she thought it suited him better than the long hair he had during their real and true time. His clothing was different as well…though that was to be expected because of the change in time. Gone were the white puffy shirts and slacks. It their place was black pants, black shirt and black leather jacket. It suited him, made him look dangerous, but surprisingly she wasn’t afraid. It was the moment she had been hoping for and dreading all at the same time. She had always wondered if when she actually saw him again if she would be scared of it. It would make sense since he was the one who technically killed her. Yet in that moment, all she felt was a longing to be back in his arms again. She heard her name called out almost on a whisper and had it not been for her heightened senses she would not have heard it. It seemed almost like a prayer the way he said it. She could see the confusion in his eyes and would do anything to erase it. She couldn’t find the words to answer until he uttered her full name. No one really ever called her Katheryn anymore, but he had always done so when he was either annoyed, proud, and confused. It was just the way that he was. “Liam.” She finally whispered, her Irish brogue coming out softly. Most of her accent had long since disappeared, though there were times that it slipped out, and apparently this was one of those times. She waited. In the next few moments the silence was unbearable and she finally snapped. She was sick of acting like an adult! She was sick of having no one to rely on but herself. Her brother was back and was going to make sure that he stayed with her. “Liam.” She cried again but this time on a sob and she threw herself at him, praying he would catch her. He always caught her in the past, but things were different now…they were different. She just hoped they weren’t too different. She had missed her brother and wanted him by her side. - - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -She stood there, watching the scene in front of her unfold. She had no idea what was going on, and she wasn’t exactly comfortable with it. She noticed the similarities between Angel and for a moment a stroke of fear shot through her. This girl was obviously at least 10, though she guessed around 12. She was also a vampire. For a moment she had an image of Angel as a human holding a woman’s hand as she gave birth to their child. She knew it was an insane thought, but the girl looked like him…what if it was true? What if it was his daughter? The thought struck her for some reason, though she didn’t understand it. It wasn’t the girl who she feared, for she would love anyone that was a part of Angel. No, it was the thought of him with another woman, which was ridiculous since he was over 200 years old. He obviously had a past, hell; she had met two of the women he had slept with. She groaned at the thought of Darla and Drusilla. She hated stories she had heard from Spike and did her best to wipe them out of her memory.
She shook her head and cleared the thoughts trying to creep up on her. She looked at the girl again and for the first time realized that there was a sense of familiarity to her. She had never met her, but she had seen her. Her memories swooped in at that moment, taking her back to a night so long ago that she rarely thought about it. The night that she had held Angel in her arms as he explained what Angelus had done. How he had killed his family. How his sister had woken up and called him her angel before he drained her. She remembered asking what they looked like, trying to bring him out of the funk he was in. He then pulled out a chest full of pictures he had drawn. Some of them were of the four companions, Spike, Drusilla, Darla and Angel. It was obvious those were done before Angel had regained his soul. However the ones towards the bottom were of a beautiful young girl. The love that was shown through each pen stroke shown and she was introduced to his sister, Kathy.
Her eyes widened as she took in the girl. She knew, without a doubt, that the girl standing in front of her was her former lover’s younger sister. How it had happened she wasn’t sure, for she knew that Angelus hadn’t been the one to turn her. Angel would have told her that and would have found the young girl by now.
She turned to her ex lover and stared at him. His face had become ashen and in all the time she had known him he looked paler now than he ever had. She heard him try and struggle to make out words and finally he whispered the word Kathy. She noticed it was in the same tone as when he was trying to figure out if she was alive, and smiled at how much love there was in it. Finally his voice got stronger as he called her full first name. She turned her attention to the young girl in time to see the child throw herself at Angel in a sob, crying out ‘Liam’. It sounded weird to her ears to hear someone call him that, but she knew that it was his human name and he would most likely respond to that just as he would anything.
She wanted to give them some privacy, and thought about turning away to leave…however she was rooted in place, watching the scene unfold. She wished she was stronger. She wished she could make her feet move in order to give the love of her life some time to figure out what was going on, but she wasn’t …he couldn’t leave…and she didn’t know why.

-------------------------------------------- The sob erupted from the child and he saddened, yet continued watching her. It almost seemed that she was afraid of her own brother, though he knew not to blame her. After what had happened to her it was to be expected. After all, it was his fault that she had been a child-vampire for over two hundred years ago. It was his fault that she hadn't been able to grow into an adult and fall in love, to have a family. It was his fault that she hadn't been able to see the sun since the day she'd died, years and years ago. That she never got to see her friends ago or maybe even had drank from them. He was responsible for not only her death, but also from taking her parents away from her. Their father had adored Katheryn, unlike how he treated Liam. He'd been her little girl and his mother had treasured her as well. Now she was living the life of darkness as well as the life of a child for centuries.
When he spoke to her it was so quiet that if she hadn't been a vampire as well, she wouldn't have heard him. He wasn't sure if Buffy could hear him or not but he suspected she probably couldn't. He also wondered if she understood what was going on. Katheryn looked a lot like him but he didn't know if Buffy would put the pieces together (not that she was dumb), he didn't know if she was really trying to pick up the pieces or just watching for right now. This was all probably very odd and awkward for her but right now, he didn't care. She would understand later when he told her more about it. Or, when Kathy did.
He returned his calls calling out his own name, his human name of Liam. Honestly he didn't mind his old name, though it did unhappily remind him of his past which he preferred not to talk about. However, when it came from his sister he didn't mind it at all. Her voice was just like he remembered, like that of an angels. When they'd been young, he'd always found it odd that both his mother and his sister had called him Angel. Katheryn was far closer to an angel than he had ever been.
Holding her tightly, he removed his hand from her hair and put them both around her and pulled her close. She was so small and light that it proved easy to move her, though he hoped it hadn't frightened her. Hugging her tightly, he knew that it probably wasn't going to hurt her as she was a vampire as well. This was one of the most emotional moments Angel'd had in his entire life and he had no words to explain it but for some reason, he know felt complete.
Still holding her, he loosened his grip and pulled back so that they were looking at each other again. She looked like the exact same girl from his memories, she hadn't changed a bit (though this was expected as she'd been turned). Though if you looked at Angel now and Liam from the past, you'd definitely see quite a bit of change there. His sister though still wore her hair down in the same style, at the same length. Everything was so overwhelming right now he couldn't help but let tears well up in his eyes; yet he didn't let them fall.
"I never wanted this for you, I'm sorry..." he told her again, feeling like there weren't possibly enough timess that he could apologize to her. "I'll never leave you again, Kathy."
Honestly, right now, he was just hoping that she wouldn't be freaked out by him. Sure he was being clingy and just assumed they'd stay together forever, but why not? He'd caused this life for her and he wanted to at least make sure that she would be happy in it; and safe. He would protect her with his life and make sure that she was never hurt again like what he'd done to her. Surely Buffy wouldn't mind Katheryn coming back to live with them, until Angel left Mystic Falls that is.
"Buffy...this is my sister, Katheryn" he told his lover, then standing up with Kathy's hand in his own and lifting her up to meet Buffy.
As he watched the two of them, it made him think of them kind of as his own little family. If he could have anything in the world it would be those two, his lover and his sister. He only hoped that Buffy would be accepting of her and also, that she wouldn't completely be disgusted by Angel for doing this to a child. Though, she had heard the story before and knew that Angel hadn't turned Katheryn. Now he just hoped that she wouldn't think he was lying.

atheryn 'Kathy' Anne O'Connor couldn’t believe it. She felt him catch her and she sighed in contentment. Her tears wet his shirt but she didn’t mind that all. If he wanted her to do his laundry later she would…though she really hoped he didn’t. She hated doing laundry. She would wash dishes all day long, but hated doing laundry. She felt him grip her gently and for a moment wished he would hug her tighter. She knew he most likely didn’t want to hurt her, but hello, she was a vampire. She could feel the strength coursing through him and retracted her statement. He could hurt her if he wanted too…he had much more strength than she did. Too soon she felt him pull away from her. Her throat closed for a moment as she thought of him rejecting her. She watched as his eyes raked over her face, seemingly taking her appearance in. She heard him say that he was sorry but she didn’t say anything back. She hated seeing the look of guilt on his face but she ignored it for the time being. She hated having to put this out in the open directly after they had met up again, but she knew it was time for answers now. “This woman, right after you…he left the room. She came and said that I was needed for something important and that’s when she made me. Two and a half days later I woke up, dug myself out and realized what had happened. An older woman found me a few days later and took me in, letting me travel with her. She knew about what I was and explained to me what had happened. I stayed with her for ten years until she died.” She told him briefly, not wanting him to know that she had been on her own since that day that her surrogate grandmother had passed. She saw her brother turn his head to the blonde girl who was watching them. She could tell she was a human, though she radiated so much power that it almost scared Kathy. If it wouldn’t have been for her brother being close to her and her actually being able to feel the goodness coming from the woman, she would have bolted. She heard her brother introduce the woman as his closest friend, though something didn’t seem right about that sentence. She would bug him about it later. “Hi.” She whispered before pushing her head into her brother’s leg, trying to hide her face. This was her standard position when she was embarrassed or shy…she would always hide out behind Liam in some way. Nothing had changed in that respect. Kathy couldn’t help it. She wanted to make sure he was real. She pulled on his hand and when he didn’t immediately respond she huffed before going and standing on top of the headstone so she was standing at his height. She stroked his cheek with her small hand. “Are you really real? Am I dreaming or are you really here? Finally?” She asked, needing to know that she wouldn’t wake up alone in her hotel room for the millionth time. Word Count-560 Tag- Angel & Buffy Outfit- Click here to view Kathy’s outfit. - - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -She stared at the two, listening as Angel questioned what was going on. She could see the relief and the tension in his stance. She knew that look. He was trying to comprehend what was going on and it was taking him a lot to do so. She watched as he gripped his sister when he caught her. She saw how much he was holding back from tightening his arms around her…almost as if this was a usual occurrence though she knew it wasn’t. She wondered if in his motions he still considered her his tiny little human sister, trying not to squeeze her too tightly. She knew that it was simply his physical reaction, where as mentally he knew he wouldn’t hurt her.
She watched as he pushed away from her and for a moment she waited for him to start grilling her. She was surprised to see this side of Angel…the one that few rarely saw. She had been on the receiving end of his compassion, but it was something else to see it towards someone else. It was a beautiful thing to watch and not for the first time she fell in love with his soul. She heard Angel ask his…sister...how she was still around. She heard the response but it didn’t register at that moment. She reminded herself to think more on it later. She knew that Angel wouldn’t be allowing Kathy out of his sight for a long time so she knew she would have some time to herself later in the evening to reflect on the changes that tonight brought.
Her mind was broken by Angel’s hoarse voice calling out her name. Her head snapped up to meet his eyes, not even a bit sure on when she had started looking at the ground. She heard his introduction and smiled down at Kathy. “HI.” She replied, not sure what else to say. She heard Angel simply say that her name was Buffy, not really introducing her as anything other than a friend. She almost wanted to scream at him that if that was all they were then why was she still here, but she refrained. She knew she was being over dramatic and it was immature of her. She was so happy for him that his sister was alive, though she had no idea what exactly had caused her to exactly…survive. She knew Angel had asked her but she hadn’t been paying enough attention to hear it. She wanted to slap herself, she was acting like an idiotic fool, but it couldn’t be helped at the moment. She sat down against a headstone and smiled warmly at the young girl.
She saw Angel immediately go into protector mode. She knew this one well. He used to be like this with her. Constantly making sure she was alright and safe. He had learned by now that she didn’t need his protection, though she wouldn’t lie and say she didn’t miss it sometimes. She laughed at the little girl’s face when she shook her head. She reminded her of Dawn at that age…it was the age where Dawn still liked hanging out with her older sister. Now, unfortunately, her and Dawn had grown apart and unfortunately she didn’t know how to get their relationship back to what it was.
She again thought of leaving them alone and actually stood up this time. Unfortunately her thoughts were broken by being picked up and thrown into a headstone. She groaned and jumped up, her back popping but the adrenaline pumping through her masked the pain she knew she would feel later. She immediately got into a defensive stance in front of the two siblings. Slayer… She heard and she rolled her eyes. “Can’t you guys ever greet me by my name?! I do have one of those you know.” She quipped…hating that apparently no one actually knew her name…though they knew what she looked like.
It seemed as if the male vampire ignored what she said, turning his attention to Angel. Angelus too. My lucky day. Angelus and his pet slayer. I’ve heard some disgusting things about you. Not only do you have a soul now, but you also fell in love with the slayer. You’re pathetic. It’s one thing to kill your own kind, but to actually help the slayer? Pathet- Was all he got out before she jumped into action, snapping a tree branch in half and stabbing it through the undead man’s heart, watching as he turned to ashes. She shook her head and sighed.
Feeling other vampires around the cemetery she didn’t bother to say anything to Angel, she simply went over to her bag that she had brought with her and pulled out a stake, slipping it into her pocket before putting her bag back down, preparing to leave in order to patrol the cemetery.

-------------------------------------------- When she clung to him, he felt her tears wet his shirt but he didn't mind. They hadn't seen each other in almost three hundred years, what the hell did he care about some shirt? Right now she was the only thing in the world that mattered to him. Even Buffy sank off into the distance at some extent of which he didn't notice right away. For the longest time Buffy had been the single most important person in his life. Now that he had Katheryn back, he wasn't sure how she would feel about the situation. He would have given everything to be telepathic at that moment.
But wait, would Katheryn even want to stay with him? After having been the one who caused this life for her, he could't be sure that she'd even want to stick around. At the moment, she seemed happy to see him though. That could possibly be shock as well, after not having seen him in almost three centuries. It troubled him pretty deeply to think of them meeting and her rejecting him, though he knew that he couldn't blame her. After doing something so terrible, who would want to stick around? Who would want to spend time with the person who took their life? Especially when the life had been that of an innocent, eleven year old child.
He noticed that she seemed upset for him pulling away so quickly but it had only been so that he could look into her eyes and talk face to face. As she began speaking he heard her accent and his heart warmed a bit at the sound of it. He had missed her so much more than he had known. It had been so long ago and yet, he remembered the night like it had been just a few hours ago. Though he knew that he was a much different person (for lack of better words) with a soul, he still blamed himself for the things he did as Angelus.
The second she began telling the story of the night she was turned, he felt infuriated. Darla had gone behind his back and turned her, he had known nothing about it until this moment. Even though it angered him he knew he shouldn't have expected anything else. Darla had been one of the most evil things he had ever encountered in his vampiric life, only coming second to himself. Throughout her hundreds of years of life, the only thing Darla had been good for was givng him Connor. To this day he still wondered how Buffy felt about that situation, as they had never talked about it. For right now, that conversation would have to come at a later date.
"I should have known better than to leave her with you, but I was new to that life. I'm different now; I have a soul" he told her, as if that possibly made things any better.
Even though he knew that it didn't change the past, he wanted her to know that the future would be much different. He wanted her to know that he was a changed man and that he no longer did things out of such an evil, malicious nature. It was times like these when Angel truly wished there was a way to rewrite history. He was more than willing to suffer for the things he'd done and he had. It was just that he hated the fact that others had suffered because of him as well. If others weren't involved, he would be fine with suffering for eternity. He had accepted a life of mourning and regret and though it haunted him everyday of his life, he knew there was nothing that could be done to change that.
At the introduction of Buffy to Kathy, he noticed that both of him seemed confusing by his wording. Honestly, he wasn't quite sure why. Angel hadn't been with the blonde slayer in years and as far as he knew, they weren't together now. Other than the first night he arrived in Mystic Falls she hadn't shown any interest in becoming something other than friends, so why would he make it even more odd by calling her by something else? His eyes shot over to Buffy to see her reaction and he noticed that she seemed a bit hurt. Right now wasn't the time to talk about things between them and before he knew it, he felt a tug on his head. As he snapped out of his thoughts it was too late and his sister had let go of his hand.
Now she moved on top of the headstone near them and began stroking his face softly. It reminded him of how his mother had done that to him as a boy when he couldn't sleep. Katheryn and their mother shared a lot of facial characteristics, as did Katheryn and Angel himself. Gladly to Angel, he didn't look quite as much like his father.
"It's me, Kathy, and I'm not going anywhere this time" he spoke softly, reaching out to stroke her hair as he had done earlier.
Sooner than he wished, they were interrupted by a hoarse voice. It was a vampire who had stepped out from behind a mausoleum. The vampire taunted both Buffy and Angel, though Angel wasn't concerned. One vampire was no match for Buffy or Angel and certainly not the both of them together. When the vampire neared Katheryn, Angel protectively stood in front of her. As he did he couldn't help but let his vampiric face come forth and with his demonic face he snarled at it. Barely being able to finish his snarl, Buffy had the vampire blowing in the wind within minutes. Letting his human face return, he offered his hand out to Katheryn asking her to come with him. He wasn't sure whether or not Buffy intended on going home with them, but he knew he didn't really feel like patrolling right now. At the moment, he just wanted to spend time with Katheryn and nothing else. --------------------------------------------Tag: Kathy, Buffy Word count: 1,021 Notes: Sorry it's so lengthy, I get carried away with this one! athryn 'Kathy' Anne O'Connor sighed into her brother’s chest. She couldn’t believe she was finally next to him again. Couldn’t believe that she was in his arms again. She was so relieved that he wasn’t the monster that she believed that she could cry. Tears leaked out of her eyes but she angrily wiped away her tears, trying desperately to stop her tears. She wanted to stay with him for the rest of eternity, though had no idea if that was possible or not. She didn’t know about his life, didn’t know who the girl standing next to him was, though by the way his attention kept drifting between the two of them that she was important to her older brother. She heard her brother comment on the blonde noblewoman and her eyes went wide. She felt herself start to shake but she tried to stop it. She knew she needed to answer but couldn’t find the words. She gulped in large lungful of air trying to get rid of the fears that she could feel bubbling inside of her. “Is…is she still here?” She asked, wanting to run away for fear of her sire finding her. “It was a blonde noblewoman that came in right after…” She told him, trailing off before she stated the obvious. She didn’t need to remind her brother that the woman came in directly after he had for all actuality killed her. Kathy smiled at the memory of the woman who she had come to know as her grandmother, the one who helped her after she had been turned. “She was a sweet woman. She was old for that time, dying after she was 50. She was a nice woman who knew what I was. I never found out how but she did. It was nice to have someone around.” The smile faded off of her face when she saw a vampire jump out, attacking the blonde girl in front of her. Her eyes widened as she watched the girl who was a human by the smell of her dispose of the vampire while her brother jumped from his position to go and almost help her…or at least that’s what she thought. He didn’t make it in time before the girl had finished off but it didn’t matter anyway because instead of going to help the girl, he simply stood protectively over her. It was something that made the young girl smile because it was definitely a Liam thing to do. She loved him for it and wanted nothing more than to give him a big hug, but she figured she had been clingy enough for the night so she stayed where she was…until he put his hand out for her which she eagerly took. For some reason, even though they had already been introduced, seeing as she now knew that the blonde human was at least somewhat trustworthy seeing her kill a vampire that would have tried to hurt her or Liam, she felt the need to actually speak up for herself. “Hi, I’m Kathy, his younger sister.” She introduced herself, smiling politely. Ironically it had been Liam who taught her manners when in all actuality he didn’t use his very often. She waited for Liam to turn around but he didn’t. She didn’t understand but then it clicked in her brain. He wore his vampire visage and didn’t want her to see it. She would admit she was slightly afraid since the last time she had seen it had been the night he had died. She went up and cupped his face, trying to get him to face her. “It’s okay Liam….I know you aren’t the same. I’ve heard the rumors…I can handle it…I know you have a soul…or at least that’s what the rumors said. Trust me, if I thought you were anything like him…let’s just say my tree climbing has gotten even better as I’ve gotten…well…older in a sense….I’d be up in the highest tree you could find if I thought you were still like him.” She told him, wanting to see him for he truly was. She loved her brother and she needed to get used to who he was, both inside and out. Word Count- 769 Tag- Angel & Buffy Outfit- Click here to view Kathy’s outfit. - - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -She watched the look on her lovers’ face as he took in the vision of his younger sister. She didn’t need to ask, didn’t need words, to know how much he was going through at the moment. She knew his guilt…he had shared it with her. She knew how bad he felt because of what Angelus had done, that she could see the different emotions running across his face. She loved the man and knew that this was something he deserved. He deserved to have some of his guilt taken away, and he deserved to have someone in his life that he knew from his past.
He had her, she knew that, but sometimes she knew that she wasn’t enough. Most of the time she wasn’t enough simply because they weren’t together. They weren’t a couple; they hadn’t been in a long time. They had no real relationship, as much as it pained her to admit. She loved him more than her very life. She would die for him, would die to make sure that he survived. She would die to save the world because she knew that somewhere in it he was there fighting. She knew he would protect the world if she left it, and he was the only one that she would allow to protect the world in her place.
She could see his desire to be in two places at once, but it wasn’t even a question. She didn’t know why he kept looking at her the way he was, but she knew he needed to focus on his sister. She wasn’t jealous of their relationship for it would be entirely selfish to be. She loved him and wanted him to be happy. She heard him try to introduce her but he was cut off when the vampire attacked. She saw his face turn into his vampire visage and she knew it embarrassed him.
A memory from long ago, one that wasn’t as usual to pop up in her mind but one that was powerful all the same came into the forefront of her mind.
You're in danger. You know what the ring means? I just killed a Super Bowl champ? I'm serious! You should go home and wait until you hear from me. Are you okay? What about you? That cut! Forget about me. This is bad, Buffy. We gotta get you outta here. What, you mean hide? Let's just get you someplace safe! No! Your Eye! Hey! Don't be a baby. I'm not gonna hurt you. It's not that. I... What? You shouldn't have to touch me when I'm like this. Oh...I didn't even notice.
She remembered that was the first time she had kissed him in vampire face, though it hadn’t been the last. She never really noticed when he shifted or when he didn’t only because she loved him either way. She loved him when he was in his handsome human form, holding her tenderly and caressing her hair. She also loved him when he was in vampire visage with his eyes golden after a fight. Either way he was her Angel and she loved him.
She heard a voice and turned around, for the first time meeting the eyes of her ex lover’s younger sister. She smiled at the introduction and held out her aunt, grateful that she wasn’t afraid. “I’m Buffy, Angel’s…sorry…Liam’s…friend.” She told her, not sure how to really introduce herself. She hated that they didn’t have a title for each other, not for the introductions, but just for her own personal knowledge.
She looked over at Angel again and before she could try and comfort him she watched as his younger sister did. She smiled as she watched the scene. She grabbed her bag quickly before slipping away, heading towards the other side of the cemetery in order to get a patrol in and try to allow her former lover time to get his life back on track. She smiled at the thought before sighing in sadness…it was a life that she had never been part of and wasn’t sure she ever would.

--------------------------------------------Her fear at the mention of Darla tore his heart into pieces. She was gone now but if she ever came back, no matter if she was human or not, he would tear her to shreds. That was for sure and he couldn't believe he'd ever even thought that he could have possibly had feelings for her. While she was pregnant with Connor he'd thought about it, though he'd soon realized that those feelings were only from her carrying his son. He didn't regret not killing her before because even though they didn't get along one bit, he loved Connor. No matter what happened between them he would always love his son. As he thought about him, he wondered what he was up to right now. How he'd been living and if he was safe. He knew that he'd probably have to Buffy about Connor sooner or later as well, but that would be for another time.
Focusing his attention back to Kathy, he pulled her to him once again. She was still standing on top of the headstone and he pulled her small body closer to him. Now that she was here, he felt like he'd never been without her while she held him. His heart felt warm for the first time in a long time and he felt like just maybe, his life was finally coming together like he'd always wanted it to. His sister was here after he'd thought he'd lost her forever. All these years he'd spent torturing himself over her death on his hands, when she'd been looking for him the entire time. She was here and so was Buffy. Though they weren't together, they were around each other again. His heart hoped that things would start falling back into place just how he'd always wanted them to be.
"No. She's gone and she's never coming back, you don't have to be afraid anymore.." he told her quietly, still hugging her tightly. He hoped that he wasn't annoying her what with pulling her back and forth to hug her but he couldn't help it. After another couple of moments, he released her yet again to look into her eyes as she spoke.
He listened to her stories about the old woman who'd taken care of her after she'd been turning. Back in those days if you were believed to be a demon of any kind, you were burned at the stake or hunted by mobs. Darla, Spike, Drusilla and himself had all been hunted down by mobs. They carried pitchforks, stakes and torches. Though they were only humans, they made up for their lack of strength with their strength in numbers. When they hunted a demon they usually got said demon, he was grateful someone had taken in Kathy. If he'd ever gotten to meet that woman he would have hugged her as well. It was an odd thought, the woman had been human when she died and was not coming back. This he knew, he was just extremely grateful and wished he would have gotten to share his gratitude.
After the vampire had been dusted, he had turned his face away from his sister in shame. Even though she was a vampire as well, he didn't want her seeing him like that again. The last time she'd seen his face like that he'd attacked her and he knew she would be reminded of it. Even though he had turned around, she followed him and cupped her hands around his demonic face. He tried to pull away from her and hide it but she was determined. With her pleas and explanations, he finally turned around so that she could see him. He didn't say anything, he just looked past his vampiric curves on his face into her eyes.
When Buffy and Kathy finally were formerly introduced to each other, he heard Buffy hesitate to call herself his friend. It wasn't that they weren't friends, because they were. If you asked Angel they were more than that. They had been ever since they met, broken up or not. He saw the pain on her face and as the word escaped her soft lips, his eyes shot up quickly to hers and his face quickly reverted back to it's human form. The term pained him as well but right now, it was how they needed to be. Too much was going on in their lives for them to selfishly be together, especially since the curse was still active. Nonetheless...it hurt him to think of himself only as her friend.
Looking back down to Katheryn, he heard Buffy slip off into the distance and allowed her to. If she had decided to stay he would have been fine with that, but he understood why she'd chosen to left. She had probably wanted to give Angel and his newly found sister time alone together. Plus, she may have been feeling a bit awkward at the same time. Eventually he knew she would return to the group before they left the cemetery.
"Have you been doing alright on your own lately? Have you been eating well...do you hunt?" He hadn't meant to simply blurt this out, but he was honestly wondering. Though he wasn't sure how, it seemed almost as if Kathy had a soul. If she hadn't, wouldn't she be wanting vengeance? Any vampire without a soul would have tried to stake him by now. Instead, she seemed sincerely happy to see him and still cared about him. He couldn't 'sense' if she had a soul or anything but by the way she acted, he suspected she did. But how? It wasn't a possibility that she'd been through the trials like Spike, was it? How would a child as small as her survive? There had to be another explanation but he didn't want to badger her right now. Taking her hand into his own, he began walking and motioned for her to follow. Lightly pulling her along, he hoped that they would both have their questions answered on their walk. Later, he assumed they would go back to the house Buffy was renting if that was alright with her.
