-------------------------- -------------------------- Jesse blew out a breath and walked through the town square, taking in his surroundings. He wasn't exactly sure what was going other than a party being planned but he supposed it didn't really matter as long as things were quiet. And they were quiet. He wasn't sure if he liked that. Call him paranoid, but didn't quiet usually indicate a calm before a storm? Well, he hadn't heard of anything going on---not that he would considering he was an outsider---but there were always ways to get information if you wanted it bad enough. So he guessed the question was, did he need or want the information bad enough to get it? Seeing as how the other deputies didn't seem all that worried, Jesse figured that he probably didn't need the information at the moment. He then shook these thoughts off and continued down the main street, listening to various people talking, but not actually paying attention to their conversation as what they were saying to one another wasn't any of his business. No, his business was anything that required police attention and from the snippets he heard, none of them did. Which was a good thing he supposed. Even though he was a bit on edge with how quiet everything had been, he decided to enjoy it while he could as things would probably get crazy really soon. Yeah, he probably wasn't going to enjoy that too much, but what could he do? Not really all that much since he was still seen as the new guy. However, he did wonder if the sheriff and the other deputies knew that were at least three vampires in town: Lexi, Marina, and Caroline. Well, if they didn't, they weren't going to find out through him. Word Count: 296 Outfit: Deputy's uniform Tag: Marina Note: Sorry it's short. ----------------------- ----------------------- It was cold out. Well, cold if you were a human. If you were a vampire like she was you barely noticed. She was going to Caroline’s party and was dressed to kill but she had a bit of time before the shindig officially took off. Plenty of time to sit around with her thoughts and wonder what she wanted to do with her life. She really needed to get focused and pick a direction in which to go. It wasn’t good to be brooding as much as she had been. Sighing she placed her hands in her coat and burrowed into it as her thoughts floated around in her head.
The air was alive with the smell of Thanksgiving dinners and fireplaces blazing. She’d given her servants the week off and given them a bonus for working so hard. No one could say that she was a bad employer. She certainly gave more holidays than most people did. It was because of this that she was walking down the street to clear her head and she saw Jesse.
“Hey there!” she called with a smile on her face as she approached him in her red dress, “How are you? I trust my drunken confession didn’t make me a social outcast?” she asked him as she fell into step with him. “Busy night for you?” She was babbling; she should stop. He probably had work to do and here she was talking to him like he wasn’t busy. She paused in her commentary to listen to him and see what he had to say.

-------------------------- -------------------------- Jesse was so deep into his thoughts that he didn't realize someone had seen him until he heard someone calling him. He turned in the direction of the voice to see Marina. "Hey. Feeling better?" he asked. He couldn't forget how she had gotten herself so drunk that she had needed him to escort her to her car. Not that he hadn't done that for a lot of people in his line of work, but it wasn't very often that he had to escort a vampire to their car. Not that Marina probably remembered that he knew what she was. She had been pretty wasted. So he'd keep the fact that he knew what she was to himself. And if she ever wanted to tell him while she was sober, he'd just act like it was the first time hearing it. He then grinned as she asked him how he was, adding that she gathered that her drunken confession hadn't made him a social outcast. "Not at all. I'm kind of like a priest. I don't reveal anything unless I learn unless the person is a danger to themselves or others," he told her. And it was true. He prided himself on being able to use sound judgment, though sometimes he got it wrong. Oh, man. Chelcie was right. He did sound like a total dork. Oh, well. It was what it was. At her question if it was a busy night for him, he shook his head. "Not so far, thankfully," he answered. Though with his luck, he had a feeling that wouldn't last. Or maybe he was just paranoid. Yeah, he was probably just being paranoid. But then again, who could really blame him? Well, whether tonight was busy or not, he'd be ready for anything. And really, that was the only way to prepare for a night of work: to be ready for anything. ----------------------- ----------------------- She looked over at him and beamed as she saw Jesse and walked over to him. “I’m feeling much better now that you’re here.” She said happily as she looked over at him and kept in step with him as she got closer to him. She remembered telling him what she was and the fact that he didn’t tell anyone made him a good person to keep as a friend. She looked up at him and smiled at him as she brushed her hair out of her eyes.
“I haven’t been a danger to anyone since before your great grandfather was born.” She said simply as she thought back to the early 19th century and the centuries before the Red Cross. She’d had no choice but to hunt animals and the occasional murderer. “I’m glad you could keep my secret. Its nice to know someone who knows who I am. I hate having to make things up.” Her words were sincere as she stood there with him in the street. “It’s a shame you had to work instead of going to the party tonight. It was…” she sighed and shook her head, “I could have used some back up.”
She ducked her head as she looked down at the ground sadly as she exhaled softly. “I hate being the outsider in most of the events.” She said softly as she looked at him. She really wasn’t a party person. She did enjoy talking about things with Jesse. He was really nice.

-------------------------- -------------------------- Jesse smiled at Marina as she said that she was feeling better now that he was there. "I'm glad to hear it," he told her. Truth be told, he hadn't liked seeing her in a bad mood. Heck, he didn't like seeing anybody in a bad mood...especially if there was something that he could do about it. Of course, when it came to vampire stuff, there wasn't a whole lot that he could do. Didn't mean that he didn't try though. Hey, it was the least he could do, right? Of course it was. But he was getting off track here. The important thing was that Marina seemed to be doing better than the last time he had seen her, which he was relieved to see. And hopefully, her day was going much better than the other one. Well, she's not drowning her sorrows in alcohol, so that's a start, he thought to himself. He then made an attentive noise as she assured him that she hadn't been a danger to other people since before his great-grandfather had been born. "Good to know," he stated. And it was. Not that he was going to press her for information, but he was grateful for the affirmation that she wasn't a threat. He smiled as she said that she was glad that he knew the truth about her as she hated having to make things up. "Well, I'm happy to be in your corner. I'm sure it can be tiring always having to watch what you say," he stated. Then his brows furrowed in concern as she said that it had been too bad that he had to work instead of going to the party as she could've used some back up. "What happened?" he wondered, catching the hesitation. It was obvious that something had brought her down and he didn't want her to think that she had to hold things in. His eyes clouded even more as she let out a breath and then stated that she hated being the outsider at most of the town events. "Yeah, that can suck," he sympathized. He was still an outsider himself and he knew how awkward it could feel. But at least he was getting to know some of the townspeople. Hey, bright side to everything, right? ----------------------- ----------------------- For some reason chatting with Jesse here in this place made her happy. She didn’t know if it was because he was unbiased or if it was because he was just different from so many of the other people she knew. He seemed honest, genuine and not jaded. It was refreshing for her to stand here and talk to someone like that.
For the first time in months she felt like she had something to be happy about for more than a few moments. That was truly, deeply important to her and the minute the realization hit her she kind of paused for a moment. She blinked a bit and nodded with a shy smile, “Its nice having someone in my corner for a change. I never thought I would.”
When he asked her what happened she shook her head, “What always happens. I came to the party and it broke off into two clicks and I didn’t fit with either of them because I tend to be like Switzerland when it comes to supernatural drama.” She said with a sigh. She looked down at the ground and saw the dirty puddles in the street. It reminded her of how messed up her life was as a vampire. She had self control, a nice home and job but no one to even share it with.
It didn’t seem fair that Stefan who lost control, went all murder house on people and left a pile of bodies in his wake could find true love. He evidently had though. Hell if truth be told Lexi was in love with him too and too chicken to say it. The way her eyes followed him when he entered the room she had the biggest unrequited love struck crush on him ever.
She saw where her thoughts were going and sighed. It didn’t matter what anyone felt or did. Lexi could coat herself in butter and swing from the chandelier and it wasn’t any of Mari’s business. She just saw a lot and it bothered her. She hated seeing things because she was an outsider. That’s all she did. She was not part of an in-group she just hung out on the fringe of things.
Great she was making herself depressed. “I should probably go. I have a lot of things to do when I get home. I’ll see you around, Jesse.” She said softly as she turned on her heels and sped to her car, gone in a blink since she wasn’t parked too close to begin with.
