- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - She had no idea why she agreed to do this however she had agreed to meet up with a friend of hers at the Underground to gather some information about the infamous Klaus. Okay, so she did know why she did it…but did it have to be at the Underground? She was honestly getting highly sick of the place being that every time she went lately she ended up either breaking up a fight or going home with Damon…neither one were really that great on her pride lately. Not that she needed any help in the pride department but still, a girl did want to feel wanted sometimes right?
She shook her head, pushing her angry thoughts away from Damon and how she wanted to kick him in the face. She didn’t mind a one night stand every now and then because hello, she was three hundred and fifty plus years old and she was a woman…of course she wanted some sort of physical activity every once in awhile. However lately her feelings for Damon had changed but she doubted his had for her and that was annoying her to no end being that she couldn’t keep coming back for more. She needed a man in her life desperately it seemed.
She squared her shoulders and added a saunter in her step as she made her way through the front door of the Underground, the club that was really the only place for all ages to go in Richmond or Mystic Falls for that matter. Her sparkly top and sparkly shoes reflected off the lights that were beating against the walls and she smirked as several men turned to stare at her.
She had learned her lesson the first time she had come here and instead of leaving her hair down as she normally did, she put it up to the side, letting her bangs sweep across her forehead. Her blue eyes sparkled against the lights and she chuckled softly as she walked by two men who stared after her, checking out her ass in her tight black skinny jeans. She didn't see her friend waiting so instead she made her way up to the bar and ordered a martini, figuring she would at least play the part of girl out on the town until her informant arrived.
It didn’t take long for one martini to become two however and she felt the familiar strings of irritation hit her due to the fact that she had a feeling her friend had bailed on her and not informed her.

----------------------- [/b] -----------------------[/b] After talking with Tyler Mari had decided she needed to get out of the house and stop moping. She knew she was turning into a grumpy old bore but it was something she was just going to have to work on. Chris disappearing on her immediately after admitting he loved her hurt like a knife to her heart. As she moved through the dance floor she caught sight of a familiar face and sighed ‘Well, its about time I tackled this while it was fresh. Maybe if I ask Lexi what is going on I’ll feel better, Lord knows not knowing isn’t helping.’ she thought as she surveyed the area.
She decided she needed a bit of courage so she ordered a rum and coke before taking her glass and coming up to her friend. The crack of the ice in her glass was counterpoint to how broken her heart was and she had to resist drinking the whole thing down at once and ordering another. That was part of the reason she had approached Lexi. She needed something to distract her from her feelings of worthlessness.
Making enough noise to be heard the brunette came up to her friend, “Hey stranger. How are you doing? Everything, alright?” she asked lightly. She felt like an attention-starved moron but hey first attempts and all. Her eyes were sad but it was obvious Mari was trying the fake it till you make it approach.
If Lexi permitted she placed her glass on the table and sat across from her, “Busy night tonight.” She said ideally, taking a sip of her drink and letting the bite of the alcohol burn its way to her heart. She could feel its warmth trailing to her belly and she sighed a moment before taking another deep sip of the drink.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - The blonde vampire finally felt the alcohol hit her and it allowed her to loosen up a bit. Not that she was happy go lucky as really, when she was she ever like that unless she was messing with Stefan? However it did mean that she felt the tension roll off her shoulders and felt her entire body relax a bit. She had meant what she said to Elena what seemed like forever ago at the Grill as they had been talking about her knowing Stefan better than Elena due to knowing him for over a hundred years. She remembered the almost petulant look on the young woman’s face before her changing the subject and commenting on not knowing that vampires could drink.
I didn't know that you guys could drink. Oh, yeah, it helps curb the cravings, but makes for a lot of lushy vamps.
There was a very large reason that most vampires were known as alcoholics, and it was one of the main reasons that in most literature it was shown that vampires were constantly walking around with glasses of wine in their hands…it was because it was true. When a vampire was drunk they could almost forget the desperate need for blood and as such it helped them blend in to society more. She knew that not many people really thought about it but when humans saw someone take a sip of wine or a bite to eat, it relaxed them. She had seen it more times than not. People would be uptight and worried until someone across the way took a bite of food and somehow it gave them the reassurance even if they weren’t aware that they wanted it…either way they got it and it helped them relax in their surroundings.
It was a vampire’s best tool…at least one of them. To blend in with their surroundings until it was time to pounce…at least those vampires who fed off of humans that is.
A familiar voice broke her out of her random musings and she turned to her right, seeing Mariana standing next to her. "Hey there. Yeah, I'm fine, just waiting for a friend who I'm starting to think ditched me." She stated with an exaggerated pout before laughing to herself and taking another zip of her martini, this one an apple martini versus the original chocolate one that she had ordered first. She tended to mix it up as that was just her personality.
She noticed the sad look on her friend's face after she set her drink back down again and quirked an eyebrow. "What's wrong?" She asked bluntly, not one to beat around the bush.

----------------------- [/b] -----------------------[/b] Waiting for Lexi to collect herself she could understand the need to be distracted. Her own thoughts had been rather grim of late and honestly she didn’t know what she was going to do. She didn’t even know if Chris was going to come back. She certainly didn’t want to look so desperate as to be waiting for him with baited breath. Inwardly she shook her head and sipped her rum and coke. The soda tickling her nose as she let the sweet burn work its way down.
The heat of so many people made her take a sip of alcohol to drown out the sound of so many heart beats. People acted like she was never temped. She was she just knew there were too many vampires here to risk anything in a place such as this. She had Chris to distract her and now it was completely unsatisfying to be alone.
“I met a fledgling vampire a few months. I was helping him to learn to control his hunger. We hit it off. Which for me is saying something.” She said softly as she stared at her drink and took a deep drink of it. “I thought that we really clicked and that he cared about me. We went to the beach party together and he even played me a song but the next day he was gone and so were his clothes. He didn’t even leave a note saying where he was going or when he’d be back.”
She felt the tears falling from her face. “I feel so stupid, Lexi. I thought that maybe this time I wouldn’t be getting fed a line but it looks like when he realized I wasn’t going to fall into the sack he ditched me for greener pastures.” Her tone was bitter and sad as she tried to dab at her eyes, “I feel like an idiot. I should have realized he was lying but I wanted to believe him so much.” She closed her eyes and ducked her head. She exhaled softly and looked at her friend with a watery smile, “So what brings you out here?” she asked. Lexi always had it together. She was cool like that. She wouldn’t be bawling in her rum and coke like Mari was.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - She could tell that the other woman was trying to come up with something to say so she kept quiet, waiting for her to tell her what was on her mind. While waiting she listened to the music around her and the bodies rocking to the beat. She knew that she could easily slide out onto the dance floor and find a man to take her home. Hell all it took these days was blonde hair, blue eyes and big boobs, all of which she had…well…she had normal sized breasts but for men they found them big so whatever. Either way though it was almost too easy in this day and age…there was no chance, no courting, just meaningless sex with a ‘hot’ girl or guy and it got on her nerves she didn’t mind saying.
Marina’s soft voice broke into her thoughts about meaningless sex and idiot men and she focused her attention back on the darker woman. "Wait, how did you meet a fledgling vampire and why did you decide to help him control his hunger?" She asked, not remembering Marina taking on new vampires back in the past. Not that it was a bad thing she was just surprised since the other girl normally kept to herself. Then again the two hadn't seen each other in quite a few years before the past month so maybe she had changed. Either way the blonde vampire was simply curious to know how that had come to be.
She listened with a sympathetic ear as Marina spoke about the new vampire and she could easily see where she was coming from. Hearing about the beach party she remembered seeing the two and from what she had seen it had looked like he did care about her. Then again she also remembered her own issues at said beach party and pushed those thoughts out of her mind, refusing to revisit them now when someone she knew was in crisis. Figuring the other woman needed a pep talk.
“Aww honey, you know just as well as I do how hard the first few years of being a vampire is. Hurt, love, anger, sadness, happiness, it’s all overwhelming and maybe he just got scared. Don’t get all bent out of shape and think he’s not coming back. He could easily show up tomorrow with a big bouquet of roses and an ‘I’m sorry’ face that makes you want to kiss him or kill him depending on how nice the roses are.” She told her with a wink before allowing her smile to turn into a serious face. “However crying over him isn’t going to bring him back so I say you order another drink and push him out of your mind.” She stated before taking a sip of her own drink and thinking about the answer to the other woman’s question.
“I am here avoiding Damon and Stefan.” She stated with a laugh though it was true. She didn’t want to be around Damon because he was being an ass and Stefan because he wanted answers that she didn’t have.

----------------------- [/b] -----------------------[/b]
She had to grant that Lexi’s views were a bit more upbeat in some ways. It was probably because she was an extrovert and liked meeting people no matter where she was. Mari liked people but she wasn’t the type to just go date anyone. She could flirt but that might be all it ever was. She wanted love, the real deal, no half assed love that came with attachments and drama. It was all or nothing for her and she wasn’t going to settle for some guy just because he had a case of blue balls. Men had hands for that just fine.
The fact that Lexi didn’t know about Chris just kind of proved Mari’s point. “Well normally I don’t but this guy was all bloody and vamped out and didn’t know what he was. I had to take him in before he ate the mayor or something. I called Stefan but that was a disaster. He basically said all my advice was crap and then went off to answer this call from his girlfriend. I’m not surprised he didn’t tell you about it given how he made it clear that my advice sucked. I was trying to get the kid to feel independent so he wouldn’t think I had him by the short hairs and Stefan was telling him he needed all these other people. It probably confused him. I mean how often do you ask advice on how to be a vampire and get 2 different sets of advice? I just never should have bothered.
She stared at her drink, “I totally forgot that Stefan needs other people to keep from turning into a ripper. He’s always had his act together when I met him. I haven’t ever seen him in jerk mode. Until then and I swear Lexi I wanted to punch him in the junk and rip out his fangs.” She muttered softly. “It’s the first time I’ve seen him coming down from Ripper mode. Probably a good thing I haven’t seen it till then because I’d seriously have spanked him and not in a good kinky way either. I have ranks in rulers as a nun and believe me. I’d use them.” She smirked at the thought, a twinkle in her eyes as she let Lexi see that while she was annoyed she could still crack a joke.
“Anyway….the guy went with me to the beach party. I thought we hit it off. We were connecting I thought but then the next morning his clothes are gone. It was just like an episode of the twilight zone. I just can’t win. So I’ve been getting drunk for about a week. I know it will get better but right now? It just sucks.” She looked over at Lexi and raised an eyebrow, “I thought you guys were the three muskateers.” She seemed puzzled. “You’re like the only person Stefan talks about next to this new girl and I don’t even know her name.” she was very baffled, “I need to get out or something but I don’t’ know a lot of folks here yet.” She admitted as she looked at the other woman.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - She groaned when she heard what Stefan had done. "Stefan is going through some shit right now Marina." She told her firmly, hating that Stefan had been an ass but at the same time understanding that he had other things on his plate. Plus she knew better than anyone that Elena would always come first in his life and she didn't think that was a bad thing personally...clearly Marina did. “I doubt he told you about it but let’s just say that he’s been killing people a lot more recently than most and it wasn’t at all his fault and leave it at that.” She told her, knowing that there was a very large chance that Marina would still ask her about it. She’d tell her the smaller details but would keep the more important ones to herself as they weren’t her stories to tell.
“Plus, have you seen the way that boy is with his girlfriend? He is in love with her and even if it was me, his very best friend who has known him twice as long as anyone besides his sire and his brother, and yet he’d ditch me in a second if she asked him too…not that she would because that’s not her but still, that’s just Stefan for ya.” She stated, making a mental note as she took a drink of her newest martini to have a word with her best friend about the way to treat someone. Not that she blamed him because again, he had a lot of things on his plate but still, no need to be a dick about it.
“Some people can handle not being a psycho without any help, other people need help. And Stefan did it alone for awhile but once he gets a taste of it he needs help getting back on the straight and narrow. It doesn’t make him weak or wrong, it’s just two different people having two different opinions. Just because we are vampires doesn’t mean that we all handle things the same. We are still individuals Mari.” She told her softly though with a faint hint of scolding. Not that she was trying to act as if she was better but just that she wanted her to understand.
She snickered at the thought of Mari spanking Stefan with a ruler. “Hey I’d have no issues with it. I slap his ass on a continual basis and that’s only just to get his butt moving.” She stated, remembering Elena asking her why she did it and Lexi simply telling her it was for fun. “I understand honey…it does suck.” She told her before admitting. “Klaus, the original? He had Lee, the human that I turned as my mate? Yeah, he had him killed a year ago. So I understand how it goes.” She told her, having not even told Stefan about it yet though Damon and Elena both knew.
"Stefan, Damon and I? Yeah they are both great but Damon and I have some issues and Stefan wants to quiz me on them and since I'm avoiding Damon I really can't answer any of Stefan's question. As for Stefan's girlfriend...she's not new...he's been with her for over a year now and let me just tell ya the boy would stake himself before he'd let her shed one tear so be careful what you say cause trust me, it will get back to him. Her name is Elena by the way." She told her before smirking. “You know me, you know Damon, you know Stefan, and you should just go out to a club and meet some people darling. That’s how we’ve all met people.”

----------------------- [/b] -----------------------[/b] “All I ask is that people let me know they are going through a rough patch, Lexi. I don’t ask for gritty details, just don’t be a douche about it. Even if it’s a “Hey, Mari I got some drama hitting me. Sorry for not saying hi sooner.” That’s all I need, Lexi. I’m not asking for dirt or personal crap if people don’t feel like show and tell but at least let me know I matter enough to say hi.”
Her anger evaporated. What was the point? They weren’t going to suddenly notice they didn’t have friends until it was too late. Clearly she was support cast and the sooner she realized it the better. “Look, I’m sorry, its just really hard when I’m going through stuff and all my friends are too busy to notice.” She took a bigger gulp of her drink and signaled for another. “You’ve always had people notice when you had stuff go wrong, Lexi. Some of us haven’t. Hell I wouldn’t even mind if everything hadn’t hit at once.”
“See? That’s just it, Lexi. I found out about his girlfriend from you. When I was interested in Chris I talked about it with everyone. I’ve told complete strangers about how awesome he was. I didn’t keep it inside or only tell certain people. As soon as I saw my friends when I did see them I told them about him. Its great that Stefan has a girl, it really is but when he doesn’t introduce her around or say anything about her it makes it sound like he doesn’t really care. Like she’s some kind of dirty secret he wants to keep hidden. We should all be there for one another. It’s not supposed to be My stuff, your stuff, his stuff but OUR stuff. That is what friends do for one another, Lexi. We’re there for each other, the hard bits, the messy bits and the good ones. I'm sorry to hear about your mate. He sounds like he was a great guy if he caught your heart." she held the other girl's hand in sympathy. "If you need to vent about your issues I'm here for you." she promised.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - She shot the other vampire a glare. "Okay for one thing I doubt Stefan was a douche about it since that's not Stefan. Damon maybe, Stefan no. And he may have had his humanity turned off at the time and was pretending he didn't...did you ever think about that?" She asked, not really liking how Marina seemed to think that Stefan had an obligation to help her. Something about it just rubbed her the wrong way since while yes Stefan and Marina were friends, last Lexi checked they weren’t besties or anything and Stefan did have a girlfriend that kept him fairly busy.
"Okay I understand that you needed your friend's support...yet why didn't you contact me. You contacted Stefan yet not me...I could have helped you and more than likely better than Stefan since I actually know how to handle myself. Did you contact me? No. Did you contact Damon? Not to my knowledge. So don't act like all your friends abandoned you and what not because I personally had no knowledge of this until just now. As for Stefan telling me, it’s not his job to give me your information. If you needed help you should have called me…but you didn’t.” She told her, the anger getting the better of her and while she knew she should calm down the alcohol plus the drama of the last few days and of course her mama bear protectiveness over Stefan had hit an all time high and she had pretty much had it.
Throwing down enough money to cover her drinks she stood up. “I have to get going. If you want to talk again without insulting my best friend then you know how to get a hold of me. I’m sorry if you feel like you were abandoned however again, you haven’t tried very hard.” She told her, walking two steps before turning around. “And as for you going through stuff…guess what…my mate was fucking slaughtered right in front of me and yet my best friend doesn’t even know that yet. I’ve put my shit aside to help my friends…so don’t act like we all don’t have stuff going on in our life.” She told her before turning on her heel and walking out the front door.
She would regret this blow up in the morning once she sobered up and remembered that it wasn’t all Mari’s fault…but tonight she felt vindicated.
She would make sure to text message Stefan later though and ask him why he had been a douche…just to get his side of the story.
