- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -The trees rustled in the wind though the woman walking through the otherwise silent cemetery barely heard the leaves against the grass. Her mind was running a million miles a second though she could barely make sense of any of it. She had just gotten off the phone with her watcher who was still in Rome handling the new watchers and the new slayers. She missed her mentor and before she had ended the call she had once again begged him to come and at least visit the group in Richmond but to no avail. She knew not only was he busy running things but he also wanted her to stand up on her own, something she thought he had realized she could do after he had left Sunnydale almost two years earlier. Clearly he hadn’t gotten it through his head yet and if he didn’t come soon she would be making a trip out to see him.
Maybe she’d ask Willow and Xander to come with her…between the three of them she was sure that they could talk him into at least staying for a few weeks…though if Buffy had anything to say about it he would be staying for much longer. It didn’t feel right without him here and she knew even though she hadn’t asked them that Willow and Xander felt the same way. Giles was more than her mentor or watcher, she was the entire group’s father figure and she knew they, just like she, missed him terribly. It wasn’t any fun to get into trouble without someone there to reprimand them.
Tonight was a slow night in Richmond and before long she found herself walking out of the cemetery. She had been patrolling for a little under three hours and had come across nothing other than a runaway dog who had tried to follow her home. She had been grateful that the dog’s owner had caught up to them and apologized as she knew herself well enough to know that she would take the dog home with her if only as to not let it roam the streets alone with no food or water.
She had no interest in returning to the brimming full boarding house nor her empty apartment but she didn’t feel like walking throughout the empty cemetery either. Instead she simply continued walking through the town, her senses alive as she tried to pick up on anything that was going on throughout the town. She found herself after a half an hour or so on the Richmond campus of Virginia University and rolled her eyes. Somehow…even though she had hated school with a passion when she was younger…whether it be college or a high school…she always seemed to find herself on a deserted campus somewhere.

------------------------------ ------------------------------ Angel was no fool he knew exactly where and what Buffy was doing even before she knew it herself. Naturally Angel would try his best to give Buffy that.. small fraction of personal space and time that she preferred. Which he knew was part of the reason she went patrolling on her own anyway, still he would allow her that time where she wouldn't have someone to worry about her etc. Or for her to worry about or get in the way, a point Buffy made clear on several occasions. None the less, three hours had since then passed by.. and that was a good amount of time, so he decide, to allow her before he would join in. Which was why he was currently wondering down the streets, and through various other places as he latched onto and followed her scent.
It was indeed quiet, barely anyone stirred apart from the occasional stray cat or two. The fact that it was so quiet also left Angel with a sense of unease.. it was always quiet right before the storm. Yet at the same time, too much activity and that would be just as abnormal. With his hands buried within the pockets of his leather jacket he carried on walking, following calmly behind Buffy.. he would.. try and keep his distance, but during his few months of absence.. any distance between he and her was proving difficult.
When it appeared she had slowed down.. and therefore begun to aimlessly wonder, Angel knew it was high time to pop up. Keeping her company was the least he could do after everything else. Lengthening his stride he swiftly caught up with Buffy, and learned from past experiences to announce himself.. should he receive a steak through the heart.. again. "Slow night?" He questioned.. he has also planned in advance, and buried within his pocket was a flask full of hot chocolate. Offering her a slow smile, he pulled out the flask and offered it to her. "I thought you may want something to drink." He stated before handling her the flask, and burying his hands back within his coat pocket.
Casting his gaze around, out of habit, there really was no sign of movement from anywhere, it was almost eerie in that sense. Still, no matter, there was bound to be something come up even if it was something so very small. Perhaps.. he could even spar with her should she get too bored? It was an idea, and it had been some time since he had last sparred with someone of an equal.. if not higher level skill than himself. He always did enjoy a challenge. "Where else have you got to go?" He questioned, although he was sure that within the space of three hours, most of the small town would of already been scanned.

- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -She shook her head as she watched two students making out on a bench. She briefly had a memory of she and Riley doing just that, though it hadn't been for making out purposes, it had actually been they were playing bait to a couple vampires. Not that it had been any less enjoyable but even during that period of time her mind had often drifted to Angel. She and Angel had spent more than a few nights ‘patrolling’ while they had actually been up against headstones making out. It had been different then though because she trusted Angel more than most and with him she could let herself relax, knowing that without a doubt he would take care of her had she needed it.
With Riley it had been different. She was the one who had to be the strength. She had been the one who had to keep her ears trained around them and one eye open at all times to make sure that she knew what was coming. Not that she hadn’t done this even with Angel however she had allowed herself to be a young girl for a little while before forcing herself to become the slayer again. With Riley she always had to be the slayer and it had been exhausting.
She could feel someone following her and she didn’t question who it was. She knew the difference between her ‘vampire’ sense, her ‘demon’ sense and her ‘Angel’ sense. Her Angel sense was a combination of a comfort and yet at the same time she could sense the vampire within him. She had always been able to feel him, though it had taken her awhile to realize that it was him that she was feeling. She had never questioned it but she hadn’t always trusted it either.
A painful memory pulled at her heart strings as she remembered the Thanksgiving that he had come to see her but hadn’t said anything. She remembered coming to Los Angeles and screaming at him. She remembered feeling his heart beat as they fell asleep after spending the day making love and then seeing his tears mingling with hers as she promised him that she would never forget. She hadn’t kept hat promise until she was shown everything in heaven. She now had two sets of memories, one with Dawn and one without, and because of heaven giving her that she had also regained the memory of the day that never was…not that Angel realized that. She hadn’t told him yet nor did she plan on it anytime in the near future. However the memory that pulled at her was the words that she had spoken to him that day. I don't know. - I just know that when you're around, whether I see you or not, - I feel you - inside - and it throws me.
She said nothing as she kept walking, knowing that he would eventually break the silence if he planned on alerting her to his presence. No longer had she thought it than she heard his steps quicken and he fell into step right next to her. "More than slow." She told him softly, her eyes still trained on the campus ahead of her. She stopped when she heard his offer and smiled softly, taking it from him and taking a sip gratefully. It was perfect temperature. "Thank you." She told him gratefully, taking another sip before screwing the top on and grinning. Most women would have handed it back to him but she wasn’t most women, so instead she pulled his hand out of his pocket and slid the flask back into it before pulling on his hand to have him follow her.
A few moments of silence passed before she heard his whispered question. “I need to do the rest of the campus and then probably make another sweep around Mystic Falls.” She told him honestly. “You can come with me or you can go and hang out with whoever. Up to you.” She told him, her hazel eyes trained onto his dark ones.

-------------------- -------------------- Spike had been driving down the long and winding Richmond roads with his stereo blaring, the obnoxious sounds of the Sex Pistols screaming. And Spike began screaming right along with them. It was quite the jolly to be able to sing along with one of the most lauded punk-rock bands from the mid-seventies. Spike was pounding the steering wheel with his palm, bobbing his head with the tunes. His blacked out windows were there to keep the sun off of his light-sensitive skin but tonight it served no purpose. He just liked the color of death tonight for some reason. The bleached blond continued until he would sing a different tune once the back tire blew thanks to some frat boy's busted beer bottle.
Spike, quite obviously angered and frustrated all the same, shoved the car door open and circled around the back of the Starlight Black Dodge DeSoto Sportsman that had become 'high value' in recent years. "Oh bloody hell. Damn frat boys an' their boozin'... Maybe I'll go in an' find the happy meal who did this to my ride! Someone will talk," the vampire growled. He locked the car up, just in case, pulled his leather duster around him snug and made his way onto the Richmond campus. Despite his changed ways, Spike still had fun with humans and knew the right way to frighten them. However, on the way inside he stopped himself for a moment and noticed two familiar people strolling the same grounds - Buffy and Angel.
It wasn't difficult to see these two with one another, holding hands. All that was missing were them frolicking through a field of daisies. It was quite sickening. Not for the feint of heart - or soul. Spike sighed and realized that running into these two would be inevitable. So, Spike, disregarding the respect for 'private property', tried to eyeball something to mount himself on and watch these two like a hawk. It could be fun. After all, Buffy and Angel weren't hard to poke fun at. At least not for this sadistic vampire.
Spike grinned, finding a nice table to perch himself up on and peer out unto the lovebirds themselves. He could overhear Angel offering her something nice to drink; how disgustingly boyscout of him. He began mocking their conversation as he observed them from afar. Mostly just to humor himself. "Oh, thank you Angel. You're such a dark an' brooding man yet I find ways around it to loooove you with my all-too-human soul!" Spike mocked, deepening his voice for Poof-Hair. "Do not worry, Buffy! I am always here to protect you! Need I remind you I walked an old person across the street today an' pulled a kitten from a tree? It's what I do... I'm a hero, you know." and continued mocking them until they got closer.
Spike jumped down from the concrete slab they called a table around here and began chuckling to himself. He lifted a finger and singled them out with both his pointer and middle fingers forming a V-shape. Just friends, yeah? Right. You two'll never just be friends. But enough about that. I have to get myself inside, find a frat boy an' give him nightmares for the rest of his miserable life. Who knows? Might teach the little brat something 'bout leavin' broken beer bottles in the road for an innocent passerby to run over!" he shouted the last part in the hope that they would hear inside. He glanced over at the Dynamic Duo and shook his head. Was this to be his big hanging out party? Being the third wheel for these two? Made him want to heave. --------------------

Having caught up with her, with little effort Angel tried his best to make it appear, as casual as possible, only failing to do so over the face he knew all to well Buffy had been 'sensing' him.. he never did understand a slayer's 'sense' More than slow. Buffy stated matter of fact, causing Angel to chuckle lowly. "Nice to see you too, Sorry to disappoint." He retorted flatly with a small smile as he handed her the flask. "Your welcome, I thought you could use a drink.. you have been gone a while." He added, only neglecting to admit that he had in fact been worried about her, even though he knew she was more than capable than looking after herself. Having the flask returned to his pocket, he was soon enough being lightly tugged along by Buffy as she updated him on what was left of her patrol.
Holding her hand in return his steps where quick to match her own, naturally having to slow his speed down a small fraction in order to keep up with her stride. his pocket and slid the flask back into it before pulling on his hand to have him follow her. Hearing her reply he chuckled lightly "I think I shall come along, if you don't mind.. there is only so much teenage drama I can deal with." he stated, he couldn't deal with a bunch of teenagers screeching at one another, or jumping up and down because they heard that a boy was single.. or whatever it was teenagers tended to do. Which, from his experience seemed to involve a lot of shouting.
As they walked, Angel opened his mouth to say something, before shutting it swiftly and casting his gaze ahead, only to land upon a bleach blond vampire. Straightening his back in that moment he sensed the vampire before he saw him. "Spike." Angel nodded calmly in greeting. There had been times, and certain occasions when the to of them got along like a house on fire.. LA was a prime example. However.. as soon as Buffy or any female related subject came up.. that was it. It was amusing to some degree how quickly he couldn't help the fact that he resorted to a typical hormonal teenager himself. The Irony of it all.
"Who knows, Might end up on your ass instead. now that would be entertainment, I might just come along to watch." Angel commented, before offering him a somewhat patronizing smile. "I did wonder how long it would be until you found your way here." He mused, faintly as he remained positioned calmly beside Buffy, and displayed no intention of letting her hand go. "Why are you even here?" Angel questioned, as he added the last bit on.

- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -Only someone with preternatural sight would be able to see her small shrug due to the fact that her dark clothing almost faded into the darkness of the campus. For some reason there were no lights on this side of the campus and this gave the area around an ominous feel about it even though she only felt one vampire around and that was the one standing next to her. No, wait, she could feel another one though this one too was familiar. She shook the feeling off, focusing on the man standing next to her and smiled impishly. “You never disappoint. Unless you are making decisions for my own good but hopefully you learned your lesson about that.” She told him with a wink to show him that she was teasing. She didn’t often like to talk about the many times the two had found themselves away from one another however she had grown up enough to realize that sometimes space was the best thing. That didn’t mean she wouldn’t fight him tooth and nail if he ever tried it again though.
She was more than a little relieved when he didn't immediately pull his hand away. Even though she was no longer the sixteen year old who was bubbly and bright yet still self conscious about small things such as her feelings for the dark vampire, that didn't mean that she didn't appreciate the small things like holding his hand even though she knew that he was a private person and thus public displays of affection weren't something he was completely comfortable with.
She couldn't help but let out a very young sounding giggle at Angel talking about teenage drama. "Hello, why do you think I got my own apartment?" She asked him with a tilt of her light eyebrow. Okay, so it wasn't the entire truth. She had gotten her own apartment when Angelus had made an appearance in order to protect her friends and Kathy...however she admittedly had kept it for a safe house of sorts but also because there was only so much screeching that she could take as well...at least when she wasn't in a life or death situation. The time that all the girls had spent in Sunnydale cooped up together seemed like another lifetime and she knew from experience that she as well as the other scoobies had been going on autopilot. Things were very different now and she definitely needed her own space.
She was surprised when Angel stopped however it became clear why he did when he spoke a familiar name. Turning around as Angel did she shook her head, knowing this was going to get highly awkward pretty damn quickly if she didn’t diffuse the situation as best as she could. She had run into Spike a few nights back and while it had been good to catch up she hadn’t gotten around to telling him that she and Angel were back together, though she doubted he would need her to tell him. There were very few times in past that she and Angel were in the same town for any length of time before they found their way back to one another.
Shaking her head she smacked Angel lightly. “Be nice.” She scolded him though it was with a fond smile. “Hey Spike.” She told him with a grin. “Long time no see. Did you get sick of the crazy amount of girls screaming about Justin whatever his name is or did you just decide to get yourself drunk at a frat party?” She asked with a teasing grin, knowing which of the two it was.

-------------------- -------------------- Spike heard Angel utter his name and the vampire grinned in delight. He slowly approached the two of them with nothing but friendly advances when Angel asked him the million dollar question. Why was Spike here? "Well, let's see... I have a car, I like to go out at night an' do naughty things, oh an' I came across you two from afar an' just couldn't pass up the opportunity to intervene. How's that?" the vampire teased, proving that his arrogance and ego could very well cause a fight right here and now. It didn't bother him, though. Spike always ached for a good spot of violence. It would give him a chance to prove to Angel, again, that he could take him on any day of the week. Just like when they battled over the Chalice. He was the champion... or so he thought.
"But really, I'm here to teach someone a lesson. Figure it can wait. I just found myself some good entertainment right here in the open," he admitted, stretching out his arms and giving a chuckle. It was always fun to pal around with Angel and Buffy because it'd been so long since the three of them had done anything together. It was rare when they did get together, let alone do anything like hunt down some demons or fighting off Spike's old gang; which he hoped perished when Sunnydale became a crater. He had run into Buffy not too long ago and it was there that he realized their love could never truly be. Much like he and Dru, she made it perfectly clear that the love between the two of them was purely platonic. That was something he could learn to live with. Just another for Angel to steal.
Suddenly, the blonde Slayer stepped in and vouched for Spike as she began greeting him. He stood to his full height with a mocking grin flashed toward Angel, bouncing on the heels of his boots. It was like they were teenagers again and fighting over any little disagreement one might have had about anything. The bleach-blonde vampire tilted his head and smirked at her obviously teasing question. "Well, let's just say that Bieber kid got a taste of another certain kind of fever. As for me I suppose you could say I'm here to get a little bitey. Some bloke left a beer bottle in the road, broken, and it sliced my tire open, lettin' all the bloody air out of it. Good thing we're not charged for oxygen..." Spike scoffed, poking fun at how the government likes to charge for some of the most outrageous things these days.
He jerked his head upward in a quick motion to gesture what the whole buddy-buddy with Angel was all about. "And bow 'bout you two? Just out for some fresh air or... am I interrupting something here? Oh, by the way, Angel... How's that whole champion thing workin' out for you?" the rebellious vamp teased with a very obvious smirk. He knew that being champion wasn't for him, so to speak. But he just liked to point out that he did save Sunnydale's citizens, all that he could, by sacrificing his own life. There was hardly a time when Spike didn't rub it in Angel's face and this was no different. However, he just wanted to rile his grandsire a bit and get him on his toes. Was nothing personal. Just that Spike liked to get on Angel's bad side, and why not? The soddin' vampire deserved it now and then. --------------------

You never disappoint. Unless you are making decisions for my own good but hopefully you learned your lesson about that. Buffy had said, causing the corner of Angel's lips to curl into a half crooked smile in faint amusement. He hoped not, he did try his best to not be a disappointment.. yet there were always complications. He knew all to well she was merely joking about with him, which was why the half smile still remained as they walked. By this point, Angel had lopped in arm and in doing so buried his hand within his jacket pocket, allowing Buffy to hook her arm around his. A gesture, and habit he had carried through, throughout his many years. Always offering the lady his arm.. When she commented about her own apartment, Angel quirked an eyebrow, and couldn't resist the one sly comment. "To which I have still not seen.. or been invited in to." He mused, although he flashed her a small look, he understood her reasoning behind such an idea.. he respected it.
Shaking his head he added. "yes I know the reason..it's a good idea." Angel added, for if Angelus did ever make an appearance, than at least a very small part of his humanity could rest assured knowing that both Buffy, and Kathy were safe. However.. such delightful time spent with his girlfriend was of course bound to last a mere moment, before they like many other times were interrupted. It was because of this Angel stood and had already turned his attention to the blond vampire that stood a mere few feet away. Buffy at this point had to an extent noticed his some what.. perhaps hostile and protective tone, to which she was quick to remind him, with a surprisingly soft thump to the arm. Frowning briefly he sighed, if he HAD too, Spike however always knew a way how to wind him up.. and most of the time he'd often succeed.
Naturally Spike's reply was one of dry humor, to which Angel rolled his eyes in response. "What is it with all the fighting? every time I run into you is because I'm saving your hide one way or another." He retorted, which was true to an extent, naturally Spike was extreamly well apt at handling things himself, but there were a few times Spike would often bite more off than he could chew, thus leading to Angel having to interfere one way or another, not that Spike would EVER admit such a thing. All the while, Angel grew aware of Spike's growing ego over the fact Buffy was acknowledging him, and had previously told Angel to be nice..Looking to Buffy he commented as an after thought "By the way, I don't see you telling him to 'be nice'" Angel added, it was only when Spike begun to prod for answers did Angel become increasingly uncomfortable he didn't know how to deal with such.. scrutiny.. as if he was being examined under a microscope, shifting slightly he frowned unsure of how to answer his question. However when the note of champion came about Angel rolled his eyes. Spike was a sore loser at the best of times, the fact that he still held a grudge over such an event clarified that.
It was amusing at the best of time however, that Angel now merely took things with a pinch of salt, when before there had been a time he'd snap at the smallest of comments. Spike was lucky that it was just one of his good days. Still to humor the other vampire, Angel replied casually. "Great thanks.. it does have it's ups and downs though, the whole 'bound to protect' really takes it's toll on you.." he mused, only to realize that perhaps Buffy wasn't aware of such changes, he had after all neglected to mention a great deal of things to her. Still, they were hardly considered important, at least that was how he viewed it.

- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -She groaned when Spike started being sarcastic. Not that it really surprised her since let’s be honest here, it was Spike and that was who he was and what he did. She didn't usually get annoyed by it as for the most part she found it entertaining however she had a fairly large feeling that Angel wouldn't find it nearly as amusing as she did so she kept quiet, not wanting to feed the fire. Granted it was Spike so really there was no reason for her to feed the fire since he could do that completely fine on his own but it didn’t really matter at that rate.
She shook her head and knew that if it had just been her Spike wouldn't give her any trouble but since it was Angel and her he couldn't help himself. She often found their bickering amusing...at least she did when she thought about it later. She remembered the last time the three of them had been together. It was when Spike had come back to get Dru back with the help of a spell and yet he ended up bickering with Angel. She had likened it to a bratty grandchild annoying his grandfather. Granted Angel was technically his grandsire so she guessed it made sense but still it amused her.
She groaned at the thought of the annoying blonde (and no she wasn’t talking about Spike this time, she was talking about the Justin kid that all the girls obsessed over). Seriously, if I have to hear his music one more time I might do something I’ll regret…just wanted to warn you in case your thinking of anything to annoy me William.” She stated with a glare, knowing that it wouldn’t do much difference but still, at least she could say she warned him.
Shooting Angel a look she rolled her eyes. “Do I need to ask you again if you are twelve years old?” She asked but before anyone could respond she heard a scream from inside the dorms that they were near and another one towards the back of the campus. “Can you two behave and go save the people in there while I deal with the other dorm?” She asked but gave them no chance to respond before she was running towards where the other scream had come from. She knew it was probably mean to send them off together but at least if she wasn’t there they could bicker all they wanted.
Without giving her a headache that is.
