-------------------------- [/b] --------------------------[/b] Maria was still not sure if this whole situation was temporary or if she really wanted to move into this town where she barely knew anyone. Well at least she had Liz her best friend since forever and then there was Caroline her new friend. She had gotten a job here at the Grill and found herself a cute small apartment. But that was pretty much it. She still didn’t feel like she was completely at home. Maybe it was because she still had no idea where Michael was and of course she missed him. Maria had been fine with the decision they had all made of going their separate ways but now that she knew where Liz was, well it made her wonder if perhaps there was a chance for her to be able to see Michael again. He had always been the only one for her. She had tried to get her mind straight in Seattle, tried to get herself to date other people because she didn’t even know where Michael was or if she would even see him again. And yet she was unable to. None of them would ever be able to compete against Michael and it was not fair to them to try. She knew it would never worked and in the end they would only be some sort of experiment or something like that.
“lucy you got a table!” she heard her coworkers tell her forcing her out of her dream world. “right on it.” While her name was Maria she had used her middle name since they had been on the run, she could not take the chance of someone finding out who she really was. While she would not ever be in any real danger since who ever was after them would know she was human, she was not going to take a chance. She felt like she was the weak one in the group and if someone was to try and get the information out of her, she was unsure if she would be able to lie for long enough to save her friends. Part of her doubted it. And she was not about to take that chance with her friends’ life. It was easier to get a new life, a fake one and make sure that everyone was safe. She knew she was taking a chance by being in the same town as Liz but if things did get iffy. She would just turn around and leave. it would be hard to let go of her friend once again but she knew she could do. If it meant keeping her safe there was not much she would not do.
Maria walked over to the table where someone had been seated. “Hi welcome to the grill I’m Lucy and I will be your waitress tonight, can I start you off with something to drink?” she asked with a smile. Yes this was not the perfect job in the world and maybe she was getting to old for this but she didn’t mind doing it. It was not like she could ever do her dream job which was singing. She had tried that path and unfortunately it had not worked out. And she had taken a few photography classes on the side so she was hoping on making extra money on that.

- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -Max was feeling a bit hungry and his motel room so he couldn't really make any home cooked meals, well actually he could with his powers bu he didn't want to take that risk, he thought that people would find it suspicious if he had brought groceries into his motel room. Maybe the man was being paranoid but he wasn't going to take his chances, he knew what it was like to be in the white room and he wasn't going to let that happen again. He had known that if he was caught then he would either be tortured for answers, experimented on, or just killed as that was what the FBI had planned the day of the graduation so he was making sure he kept his distance, but he knew they were slowly giving up their search for him and hopefully the others.
The boy grabbed his jacket and went out the door making sure he had some money in his pocket to get his meal. He still had time to workout so even if he was basically living off fast food he was able to maintain his weight doing routines in his room rather than the gym. He wasn't sure if he wanted to eat in this town, he thought he would change it up a little bit, he decided he'd go to Mystic Falls and see what the place was about as it was only five to ten miles away from Richmond. He got in his car and started driving, once he arrived in Mystic Falls he parked his car and got out to explore a bit to see if he could find a place to eat at and he did. the Mystic Grill.
He entered the Grill and sat down as he was handed a menu, he looked through the menu wondering what he should get. He was tired of fast food so the only thing he could really get was pasta, that was semi-healthy. He then looked at the drinks that they had but just settled for some water. The waitress had finally came and he heard a familiar voice as he was reading the menu, the man had to make sure that it was actually his friend that he hadn't made contact in for five years. He placed his menu down and saw Maria. He gave the girl a smile, "Hi," was all he could say right now. He had no words right now, it felt so good to see a familiar face, someone who had known how hard it had been running for years.
He couldn't believe she was here, he wondered how long she had been here for, maybe she had settled in this town? It did seem like a safe enough place to be far away from the FBI and it seemed nice. He wanted to say more but he couldn't really think of anything as he hadn't seen his friend for quite some time. He was happy to see her of course but he had wished that maybe he would have seen Liz, he wanted to know where she was, he would probably ask Maria if she had talked to the girl he still loved. He just wanted to know if she was okay and safe...that's all he wanted for Liz, he wanted her to live a good life and hopefully he would be able to live that life with her.

-------------------------- [/b] --------------------------[/b] Maria actually liked her job here. It was not the crashdown so it didn't feel like home the way it could have but at the same time it did feel famliar. Everyone was so nice around here. It had been hard at first because she didn't know if they were nice because it was part of their nature or if they were nice because they knew who she was. And while she clearly was not trusting them completely, she trust them enough to actually stick around. She still use the fake name of Lucy but she didn't think she would ever trust anyone enough to releave her real name. There were moments that you could never go back to. Being a normal person was clearly one of them. She did her best to act as if she was normal but she knew she would never be. Things would never be the same.
But she was okay with this, she was okay with the choice she had made and if she could go back and change her life? she knew she would never change it. She had made mistakes but she had learn from them. Her life was not perfect but she was alive. The only thing that was missing was being with her friends again and specially Michael. There were many time wheres she would think she had saw him but soon enough she realised that she was wrong, she wondered if she would ever be able to see him again. But knowing that Liz was here it gave her hope that one day, maybe they could all be together again and they could be safe.
But for now she would keep on being Lucy the waitress and Claudia would keep on being her friend who was a teacher and there would be nothing else to say about it. Boring lives, but boring was good. Boring made it that they didn't draw attention to themselves. As long as they were safe, she was okay with a boring life. But when she heard the familiar voice, she knew that nothing could ever be boring around her, at least not for long. She could not believe her ears. She had to be dreaming. Maria literally pinch herself to try and figure out if perhaps she had been dreaming. But she was not. Max Evans was really there and she had no idea what to do with herself right now. “Hi…” she finally managed to say in a shaky voice.
What no, what else could she say. It was not as if she could reach around and hug him or start to cry and tell him how much she had missed him. But she could not do much. She still needed to act as if she was normal as if he was just another client, but she could not. If she wanted to be able to talk to him and perhaps be able to take her break with him, people who could be looking needed to know that they knew each other. But wouldn’t that draw attention? “how are you?” she asked simply hoping that he would take the lead on this. That he would be the one to do the talking first so she could follow because Maria was afraid of breaking down right now. She could feel the tears ticking her eyelashes. This was not good. She needed to keep it together.

- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -Max hadn't had a normal meal in days so being at this Grill he was actually excited to eat something that wasn't bad for him, he had done some research on this place as he wanted to make sure he was safe from anything like the FBI. The man was nothing but cautious as he knew that if he wasn't something could go wrong. He just wanted to know if his friends were safe, he knew Maria was safe considering she was standing right beside him probably wondering why he was sitting at the Grill. They were supposed to be separated but maybe this was fate, maybe the gang were supposed to meet up finally. Five years of running that must have meant all that loneliness and anti-social life was done and over with.
His best friend was here and he could finally talk to someone who was in the same situation as him. She didn't have any powers or anything like that but she still knew his secrets and the others and plus both of them knew who they really were. Maria wasn't Lucy and Max wasn't Phillip, those were their middle names but still, it wasn't their true identity. Max wanted to be himself but he knew that if he used his real name and applied for a job or whatever he did the government would find out somehow, he wasn't going to take that risk and no one else was either. It did suck that he couldn't be himself though, people weren't ready for change or maybe it was just the government not ready for change.
Now, the awkwardness of the hi was done and over with but they still needed to form some conversation. Max didn't want to raise suspicion though, he didn't want people knowing that they knew each other, it was another risk sadly. But this time he was willing to take that risk, she was his best friend and right now he needed her. He had no idea what he was doing anymore and he had missed Liz...he needed advice maybe it was time to finally stop running. Maybe he could live a happy life once he had found Liz wherever she was. He needed his life back and he was going to take it back starting today but he would still be careful as the only person he could trust was Maria as she was the only person he knew really well in this town.
"Not great, but fine," he told the girl honestly. He had seen better days but today was probably the greatest day. This was hope for the group to be back and finally see each other again. "How've you been? Seems like you've settled," he said with a small smile looking around the grill. The people seemed nice enough so maybe he should move into this town, he wasn't sure yet as he liked Richmond as well. He was actually thinking of getting an apartment rather than going to a motel, he felt like settling here until it got dangerous, if it did. "When's your break?" He asked the girl curiously, he needed to know. "We need to talk," he said hoping she'd be on break soon. "It's important," he needed to talk about everything that had happened but somewhere private, and he needed advice on Liz as he hadn't seen her and he was hoping that maybe Maria had ran into her at some point over the years. He missed talking to his friend he wanted to hug her but didn't want to bring attention.

-------------------------- [/b] --------------------------[/b] Maybe Maria had been slightly over reacting with the name change and all that jazz but at the same time she wanted to make sure that she kept her friends as safe as she could. There was not much she could do for them but the least she could do was make sure to not get them into trouble. She had never been the one who was wanted by the FBI so she could have kept her name, maybe she could have even went back to Roswell but she didn’t want to take any chance and beside Roswell would not be the same without her friends, she didn’t think she would have been able to simply go back to it without them. She had stopped by to see her mother every once in a while but she had never stayed for too long. In the end it had not felt right.
And while Seattle had not felt like home at all, it had felt okay for the time she was there. It had been good enough for her. If she could not have her friends around the least she could do was at least find a place where she could stay without having to leave. Even in seattle she had known that she might have to leave, if things turned out iffy she would pack her stuff and go. But it had never happen. No one had ever been suspicious of anything when it was concerning her. And if it had not been about the fact that she had felt like she had to leave for a reason unknown to her, she would have most likely still been there. But things did change. And something had told her to come here and now there she was. And maybe it was for a good reason. First she had found Liz and now she had found Max.
It was almost as if slowly the whole gang was coming together again and she didn’t know what to think. She wanted to believe it was for the best but how could she ever confirm this? Things were too good to be true. She didn’t want to see it like that but really it was how it was. Things were never easy anymore for herself and her friends. Why would it change now. But still Max was there and while things were awkward right now, she knew it would not last long. They had been best friends for so long, as share so much together, it was only normal that soon enough they would fall back into their old friendship as if nothing had ever changed and she could not wait to have this happen really.
Her heart ached as he told her that he was not great. She wanted him to be great. She wanted all of them to be great but she was also fully aware that she was not the one to make up the rules either. it was impossible to think that they would all be great when they were on the run most of the time and lying the rest of the time. “I’ve been okay. Made myself a small life here.” she told him. It was not the best thing ever but it was okay. “ummm well it’s supposed to be in 30 minutes but let me see if I can take it early. It has been really quiet around here. “Can we talk here?” she asked him and once he had answered she disappeared into the kitchen to go talk with one of the girl. She came back to Max fast. “I have one table to clear out but they are finishing their dessert so it should not take me too long.” She told him. “then I can go on break. Can I get you anything to drink in the mean time?”

- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -Max wanted to settle in this town, maybe have a normal life finally because in reality that was all he wanted. He knew the risk when he healed Liz and he was more than okay with taking that, he had the most amazing girl in his life or who at least used to be in his life. He was hoping that maybe one day the two would see each other again, he didn't know when that would be but he would search the world her and wouldn't stop until he did. He wanted to make sure this town was safe, safe enough to live in and if he could contact everybody then tell them that it's okay to meet up again. So far Richmond was good and Mystic Falls seemed pretty decent.
He wasn't sure what this town would bring but something had pulled him in here and he was going to find out why, maybe it was to meet Maria? Catch up and get the gang back together? He wasn't sure but he was hoping that. She seemed like she was doing good. The girl was a really good friend, she had helped Max with his relationship problems and had distracted him when he wasn't complaining about missing Liz. Their friendship was quite odd but they somehow made it work and he was glad that she was there for him as right now he needed her more than ever, he didn't know what he was going to do. He was a leader but right now he didn't feel like one at all.
She didn't have to runaway with the group as she wasn't in danger or anything but she decided to tag along as she was part of the group, the family. And surprisingly, so was Kyle. Max just wondered how long she had been staying here, maybe a short period of time or maybe ever since they had parted, he would have to ask her soon. There were just so many questions in the boy's mind, why was this happening now? Maybe it was truly safe enough to live a long and happy life without the government getting involved but would that mean they would still have to have a whole new identity just when they are dealing with purchasing things with credit cards or a house which would be easy enough but it did suck that they would have to do that.
"I can see that," he said with a small smile. He was happy for her, that she had finally called a place that could have the potential to be called him, she deserved it. "Yeah, of course," he told the girl. He didn't want to be left alone as he had been alone for five years but he knew she had to go back to her work. "Sure, Maria," he said saying her name quietly so no one heard. He knew she was using her middle name but he wanted to reassure her that this was real and he knew her. "I'd like a coke...can you put some tabasco in it?" He asked the girl hoping she would. He would have done it but he didn't want people to stare at him and they would thing something was wrong with him, he didn't need the attention.
Once the girl was finally on her break he waited for her and when she came he waved. "This town seems like a good one," he told the girl. "How long have you stayed here?" He asked the girl finally forming more than one sentence. He was in shock before and it wasn't like he could be shy as he knew Maria all his life, this girl was his best friend.

-------------------------- [/b] --------------------------[/b] A normal life. It was they all wanted, what they all deserved but it was not because they wanted it so bad that they would be able to have it. She had learn this a long time ago. You can’t always get what you want right? She thought to herself. But after all these years maybe things had change, maybe the FBI had found other people to follow and they would be safe. She knew it was selfish to think of such a thing, to think that other people were risking their lives but really she could use a break, they could all use a break but all in due time. Right now they had other things to focus on, other things to figure out. Like why were they all here? Well not all of them but Max was here and Liz was here. That was three people that should not be seeing each other that still had managed to find their way to one another. It was strange enough if you were to ask Maria.
And right there she decided that maybe it was better if she kept this a secret. She was not going to tell Max that Liz was here and she was not going to tell Liz that Max was here. She was afraid that perhaps this was a set up and that her friends were actually going to get in trouble the second they found out that one another was here. Maybe she was being overly paranoid but she was not going to take a chance on that. Not right away. She was sure that in due time they would come to understand why she had kept something so big from them. As soon as her friends found out about one another, well she knew they were most likely to throw caution to the wind and she could not take that chance. No she needed to make sure that everything was safe right now.
Liz was her best friend, the sister that life had forgot to give her and Max, well he was Max as simple as that sounded. He was her best friend, they had a strange friendship that was for sure because of everything that was around them but at the same time she cared so much for him. They had been there for each other when other people could not have been and they had dealt with the heartbreak they had both felt. She didn’t think she would have been able to deal with that summer where Michael had broken up with her had it not been of Max, he had been the one to keep her steady the same way she had felt him steady when it had come to Liz. They had bonded over hearthache. Maybe it was one of the many reason why their friendship was so strong. That and the fact that he had after all saved her best friend’s life.
When Max said her real name she blinked a few times, she knew no one had heard it but it had been so long since someone had used her real name, she was not use to hearing it anymore. It was something so simple, just one word and yet she felt like she could start crying right here and then. Compose yourself Maria. She had to remind herself. People would of course ask questions if she was to start crying. It had been so long since she had heard her own name and she felt like she could barely take this. But still she nodded at him. ''of course no problem.'' she told him before going to get his coke and catching her breath. She could do this, she just needed to breath for a moment. She got his drink ready and finished up with her table before she could finally join him again. She was going to be okay. This was Max. But then again he had said they needed to talk and since when did needing to talk meant anything good really?
Once she was finally seated, Maria reached over to be able to take his hand into her own. She looked at him. “its really good to see you Max.” she whispered. “I have been here for a couple of weeks maybe 3 months? I don’t really know.” She told him honestly. “what about you? Are you really here or are you just visiting?” she asked him softly.

- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -Max was hoping that this town would be safe enough for the gang to actually meet up. He had never taken the chance to phone any of them because he didn't want them to be in danger as he cared for his friends immensely and of course Liz. He was supposed to be some great leader but he truly wasn't, he had made his friends and the love of his life run from Roswell and having to get new identities, he had felt extremely bad those five years. He then wondered to himself if he'd do it all over again...and he would because even if there were some bad things that happened everything happened for a reason and he was in this town for a reason.
He then wondered if Maria knew where Liz was. if the man was going to be impulsive now and irrational then why not go and find his fiance, the girl who he had truly loved. He remembered when he tried to be with Tess but it just didn't seem right because his destiny was to be with Liz and he knew that but then of course Tess got pregnant and that didn't go so well. Even though he regretted sleeping with Tess he was extremely happy to have his son who he wanted to find someday but not now as he needed to make sure that the FBI had stopped looking or at least thought they left planet earth...now that would be something, if only there was a way to make sure the FBI stopped.
He wondered if maybe he should stay in this town rather than Richmond since Maria was here. She was his best friend and they had an odd friendship but they were able to lean on each other when they were at their worse. Max was struggling with Liz and Maria was struggling with Michael, they had just made a perfect friendship and he was happy about that. He needed his friend more than ever now though, the man was depressed, he was basically going back to his old self and he didn't want to go back to his old self but he honestly couldn't help it at this point. Being apart from his friends...apart from Liz it was just a lot to be upset about.
He waited for the girl patiently and tapped his foot underneath the table as he clasped his hands. He just felt so nervous, it was someone he knew, someone he hadn't seen in over five years and finally someone knew him for him, it felt good. She finally came back with his coke and placed it down, he took a sip of it instantly and felt really good. It had been a while since he had hot sauce in something as he was trying to blend in and if anyone saw him pouring it in then they would become suspicious or start asking questions. He was happy right now, or as happy as he could be. He just looked at the woman and waited for her to speak as he wasn't sure what to say at this moment.
The girl took his hand and he gently clasped her hand. "It's good to see you too," he told the girl honestly. "Yeah," he said but then he realized that he didn't really give details on what his yeah meant. "I'm thinking about settling, I've been staying in Richmond but I might come over here," he told the girl wondering if he should actually. He could be up here by tonight if he wanted to. "Any word from the others?" He asked her scared of what she might say. "Any word from...Liz?" He asked looking at her with sad eyes, just thinking about how he wasn't with Liz upset him.

-------------------------- [/b] --------------------------[/b] Maria didn’t think they would be able to always stay together even if they did all meet up here but maybe they could start by being in pairs or something. Just so they would not always be alone. She didn’t want to be alone anymore and while she would hate to only be able to see one of them she would deal with it if it was what it took she wanted to believe that it was fate who had brought them here to begin with but she had to stay paranoid. It was what had kept them going for so long. Had they not felt that paranoid, she didn’t know if they would still be alive. It sucked and she hated it but it was part of who they were now. Part of their new lives.
But before she could even start to think about wanting all of them to be together again, she needed to make sure that it was really fate that had gotten them here and it was not a trap. It was the reason why she was not going to tell Max about Liz being here because it would be what the FBI would be waiting for, they would want to get all of them at the same place and make it easier for them to attack, get all of them. No Maria could not allow any of them to be this reckless it would not end well. instead she was going to keep the secret even if it was killing her to keep the two soulmates apart, even if she didn’t know if her friends would forgive her for such a thing but she needed to do it.
For now it would have to be this way, Max could only know that she was here and the same for Liz. She made a silent prayer already asking for forgiveness. Hoping she was going to be able to get it. She didn’t want her two best friends to hate her. but she was sure that once they found out and the dust has finally a chance to drop they would understand, they needed to understand that she had never meant to hurt any of them but she had only wanted to protect them. She was sure that in time they would see it. They had to.
Walking back to Max, she felt like all eyes were on her but she knew they were not. People were busy eating, checking the menu talking among themselves. Nobody was giving her any attention and really why would they. She was only the waitress here, taking a break, there was nothing special to it. And yet as she sat down, she could not help but look around, making sure no one was really looking at her. soon enough she was satisfied and let out a small sigh. It was actually okay, she was going to be okay, it was just so much right now. Max was there and she could not help but wonder if Michael was also around.
‘’it’s really a nice place…I got a small apartment, cute place, not big but I don’t need much really…’’ she said with a shrug. She had always figured she would have a house by now, maybe even a kid. The last thing she had wanted for herself was to still be living in an apartment and working as a waitress. She shook her head. She hated to lie to him and she was not even sure if she was going to be able to keep on lying. ‘’no haven’t heard from anyone as of yet..what about you?’’ she asked him hopeful. Now she was pretty sure he had not heard from Liz or he would not have asked but maybe he had heard of Michael. Gosh she hoped he was okay. .

- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -He just wanted to rest, he hadn't really been sleeping well ever since he had that dream about him and Liz at some beach, it was of course the perfect dream so why would he have trouble sleeping? But then that dream reminds him of how they were apart and he couldn't handle it, it depressed the boy how he couldn't be with the love of his life. He was alone, the only good thing was that he had his best friend with him right now which meant a lot actually, seeing someone he knew felt really good. If there was fate then it must have been it because there would be no other way. Maybe it was a sign that it was finally safe to live a happy and normal life but he could have read the signs wrong, he didn't know but he wanted to make sure he had read them right.
It seemed like his normal life would never happen, once the FBI got involved he was doomed to be living a lonely life but right now he could have that normal life. He could have a family maybe even get a career. That was all he wanted and he wanted to have that life soon, he was tired of waiting for the future, he wanted to live in the now. He knew that it could be dangerous to talk to Maria right now but he had to, he had to make sure it was safe. He looked around the room with his eyes wondering who could be watching the two, it seemed like everything was okay as everyone was into their own conversation, there was no one watching and that made him feel safe. He didn't know anything about this town but it seemed quiet which he liked but also didn't like, at least with a city he could easily blend in and there were crowds so no one was paying attention to him but what if people here tried to pay attention, he didn't want that. He wondered how Maria dealt with it all.
Max had grown paranoid over the years and he made sure to stay that way as it was the only way to survive that was why he moved from town to town or going to a city to blend in. He thought that this town was far though, far away from his hometown which made him happy. The FBI must have stopped after a state or two, they had probably thought they were altogether and nearby home but that wasn't the case at all. He wondered what would have happened if they did stay together...would they have been caught or would they have been fine and had a happy life? He would think about that a lot wondering if being alone was really worth it. He was tired of being alone and he was tired of living the life he was living, he needed it to change now.
He listened to the girl talk about the apartment she had gotten and he just stared. He was glad that she had made a life here, she deserved it as she shouldn't have been involved in any of this but she was that good of a friend. "No," he said looking down but looked back up quickly. "It's been five years Maria...," he said with sad eyes. He couldn't believe how fast time had passed. "I want the others to be happier than I am at least," he told the girl. He didn't want the others to be as upset as he was, he wanted them to have a good life. "All of you deserve to be happy," he said stirring his cup with his straw. He wanted everyone to be safe and to love they deserved that, they shouldn't have to be scared of being caught but that was just how the world worked, it was unfair to them.

-------------------------- [/b] --------------------------[/b] MWhen she didn’t think about how her life really was, Maria was okay, she didn’t have to worry about feeling down, she simply went through the motions and most of the time it was enough for her to be able to deal with it. She didn’t think about it so it was not there. Was it something smart? no and she was aware of this but really what was she supposed to do about it? It was not like she could just let herself get sad again. It was just going to drive her mad again. It was simpler that way, maybe it was not emotionally good but really it was the only thing that she felt could work and she didn’t know what else to do. So for now this would have to be it. This was all she could really do.
She wondered how her friends were actually dealing with this. Were they actually dealing with this or were they doing the same thing that she was and just faking it? Because this was not really dealing with the issue at hand, it was just faking. One day it would all blow up in her face she knew that, she was fully aware of it but really what was she supposed to do about it right now? She didn’t want to face it. But seeing Max here, well it was forcing her to face it and she didn’t like it. As much as she liked seeing her best friend, knowing that he was safe, it only reminded her of everything that she was missing. What they were all missing. She could see Max looking around, she knew what he was looking for, the same thing she had been looking for. At the end of the day, there were both the same. Both wanting the same thing but both sharing the same fear.
Finally seated, Maria tried to breath again. Hearing him call her by her real name still made her feel uneasy, part of it was because she was afraid someone would hear it but also because she was not use to it. A name she had not heard in so long. “and so do you Max.” she told him her eyes looking into is. “you deserve to be happy just like the rest of us…” but of course Max had always been like this. He needed to make sure that they were happy that they were safe and didn’t really care on how he was in the process. It was almost like he didn’t matter at least to him himself because he sure mattered to the rest of them.

- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -Max tried not to get upset over the fact that he was alone well until he had bumped into Maria that is. As happy as he was to see her a small part of him wished it was Liz he ran into...he didn't want to put her in danger of course not any of them but seeing Liz just for a second would make him keep moving. The man was actually starting to give up on everything, he had been way less interactive with others since he had no reason to interact. He was hoping that Maria would be there for him as he didn't know much about this town and it was clear that he wasn't going anywhere at least for now.
He wanted to be safe but he also wanted to take a risk which was apparently too much to ask. But talking to Maria was risk enough and it seemed like everything was going okay...there was no one attacking then or watching them for sudden movements. Max had forgotten what it felt like to not be watched constantly, now the only thing he would have to get over was his paranoia which wouldn't be going anywhere anytime soon and he was fine with that because it meant that he could be more cautious to his surroundings. He wanted to let loose and calm down but he couldn't not until he knew for a fact that everyone was okay and that the FBI had truly given up on the case, if only there was some way to find out so then he could know for sure.
Max wanted to be happy but he felt like he was to blame for all of this, like he ruined everyone's lives. Maybe all of them could have had a normal life if they had just stopped searching for answers. He knew that saving Liz would change his life and he was okay with that as he loved the girl he had just wished that he was the one that would have to be on the run only and everyone else could live a happy and normal life...he was hoping for that to happen one day
"Thanks, but my wants come second when it comes to you guys," he told the girl. He wanted her to know that he was trying to put his friends first as that was how it should be, he wasn't going to be selfish or anything. "I'm tired of running Maria," he told her looking up at the girl and finally stopped stirring his straw in the cup. He didn't know what to do right now and he needed her advice on this, should he keep on running? Or should he stay and fight if there was one? Answers that he didn't know and didn't know how to handle. "So you haven't talked on the phone with anyone....during the five years?" He asked the girl curiously wanting more answers so he could figure out a plan.

Looking at Max, Maria could feel her heart breaking as she looked over at Max. she wanted to tell him so bad that Liz was around that soon enough he could be with her again, but at the same time she needed to make sure this was not a trap. Far too much was going on right now and she could not really believe it was just coincidence. If someone had been making sure they were all together to catch them with more ease she wanted to be ready for it. She was not going to let any of her friends get hurt again. There was not much she could do, if the FBI was to show up, she would not be able to stop them but the least she could do was to make sure her friends were not going to be reckless.
Once she knew that this was not a set up, she could tell them that they were here and ask for forgiveness. And hopefully they would understand, they had to understand she was only doing this for them, that she wanted them to be save and alive. Over the past few years, Maria had not been overly paranoid, with her name change and being away from her friends, she knew that she was safe, and that most likely they were safe. It was easy to not be paranoid when you were not the wanted one but of course now that Max was in front of her she could not help but look over her shoulder, fully sure that someone was going to come and hurt them. But she tried her best to stay sane and not freak out. Beside she knew that Max had most likely already made sure that no one here knew who they were.
Her eyes found Max’s and she wondered how he was feeling, how he was holding on with everything that had happen, was he okay with this? She doubted it. She knew him far too well. She knew that even after all these years he was still blaming himself for everything that had happen. But in the end it had been everyone’s decision. Maria didn’t have to go with them when they had skip town and went on the run, she had made up her own mind about it and she didn’t regret her decision. If she had to, she would make the sense decision in a heartbeat.
“I know Max, I just wished it didn’t have to be this way. We are all in this together. We all made the decision together to get make this work this way. You can’t blame yourself for the decision we have made…” if only he could see things her way even if it was just for a moment. Maybe it would change everything for him. “can we actually stop running Max?” she asked him, she wanted him to say yes, she wanted him to tell her that all these years, they were actually going to be okay now. “I talked to Liz every once in a while but never a lot, we were too afraid you know…I mean if someone was to find out…” she looked down at her hands. “have you heard from the others?”

- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -He wondered if Maria would try and contact his fiance but most likely not as she didn't want to risk herself or her best friend and he understood that so he wouldn't ask her but he was willing to try anything just to get her back. They had been through so much, and they were finally together after it all until the FBI had came along and basically ruined everything...they ruined Max's chance of true happiness and all for what? So they could kill him and his family? Or to experiment on? Max had grown up on this earth, he was supposed to grow up normally and he wasn't any danger so he didn't understand why they didn't leave him and his friends alone.
Could this be a trap? Were they really safe talking to each other? He wanted to know but how could he when everybody in this cafe looked normal and they were into their own business, if anyone was watching them they were really good at hiding themselves. Max was a paranoid guy but for some reason he actually kind of felt safe here, they were far away from New Mexico and if the FBI were still searching for them they probably thought that they were around there because of them having families that lived in New Mexico and they wouldn't be apart from them but the gang was smarter than that well the ones in danger, Maria was the only one not in danger but she still stuck with them well before everyone split up.
"I know...but none of this would have happened if it wasn't for me...but I had to save her," he told the girl. "And we were okay but then Tess had to ruin it all which is why I blame myself," he said honestly not telling anyone this but finally speaking about it now. He didn't regret saving Liz obviously since she was the love of his life and truly made him happy but he regretted letting Tess into his life. "I let her leave with the baby...and then she came back," the only thing he didn't regret was having that baby but he didn't even know where his child was anymore...he must have been five now...god how did things get so screwed up?
"I know it may be risky...but it's time," he told the girl using his leader skills once again. "It's been too long," he said hoping she was okay with this. He was tired of running, if he had to fight then he would but he doubted that would happen. "I want to believe that everything's going to be okay...and that somehow and some way we will all be together again," he told the girl. He listened to her talk about Liz which saddened him, he really did want to hear about her but that wasn't happening since Maria hadn't talked to her at all. "No...I haven't," he said looking down. "I keep seeing Isabel in my dreams I don't know if she's dream walking or if I miss her," he said with a frown. "I've dreamed mostly of Liz," he said with a sad smile.

If only Max could know that Liz was so close, that she was right in this town…Get it together maria it would be long before they can be together again, you just need to find a way to confirm that this is not a trap. But how was she supposed to do this? Maria was not stupid but she was also not as smart as Liz was and she had no idea how she was suppose to figure these things out. But she would have to. Maybe she could ask them for their help without letting them in on the big picture. This was not like Maria, she was not one to keep things from her friends but really this was big, bigger than anything else she had ever dealt with before at least on her own.
After five years, Maria wanted to think the FBI had moved on to something else. She doubted that they had been completely put off the radar and she was pretty sure they were still somewhat looking for them but clearly it would not be as bad as it had been before. Right? Or maybe she was just trying to reson with herself and was completely wrong about the whole thing. Either way she needed to figure this out, they all did. She was pretty sure that Max was also thinking about this. He had always been the cautious one so she didn’t think it was about to change right now.
“And I’m glad you saved her Max. things would have been a lot worst if you had not.” Maria didn’t even want to think about a life without her best friend, she could not even think about such a thing. So yes things had turned pretty terrible but she also knew they would have been a lot worst if Max had not done what he did. He had to make a hard choice at that moment and he had made the right one. “Don’t blame yourself. Tess would have found her way into our lives one way or another.” Maria looked over at Max. “Nobody blames you for this other than yourself.”
When he spoke again, Maria nodded. “maybe everything will be okay, maybe we just need to be masters of our own destiny to makes this work.” She wanted to believe that this was possible. “maybe it’s a little bit of both. I’m pretty sure that Isabel has been dreamwalking I mean if I was her this is what I would do to make sure that everyone was keeping safe.” Maria chewed on her lip. “well maybe it’s time we try to find our people Max…”
