- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -She smiled softly at the nurses and doctors walking past her as she made her way towards her normal destination. Since she had moved to Virginia she had taken a position at Mid Rivers Hospital in the children’s ward. It was something that she loved since she adored children and it gave her a small source of income that was hers on her own that did not come from her parents. Not that she didn’t appreciate her parents paying for her car and insurance and such but she was an independent person thanks to her shyness and she preferred to make her own way in the world.
She quickly ducked into the bathroom that was right next to the children's ward, assessing herself that she looked okay. She had two options upon taking this job, the first was that she could wear scrubs which was normally what she did however the second option was business casual which was what she opted for today as she had a meeting with a publisher earlier who wanted to publish one of her children's books. She thought it went well yet she knew she needed to look at some possibly lawyers in case they offered her a contract.
She made a face in the mirror, not one to dress up for the most part. It wasn’t that she didn’t like to dress up because she did, however she knew that she would hear quite a bit of grief as she looked more like an adult and less like a kid in these clothes and one of the reasons that she bonded so well with the children in the ward was because she brought things down to their level with her quiet personality and yet her love for life as well. She loved the children because no matter how much pain they were in or how hard of a day they had, they never gave up.
A lot of people could learn from them.
Taking in her appearance she rolled her eyes with a laugh. She had on black slacks and a maroon cross over shirt. Her heels were black and looked like boots yet they were only really half boots, and her messenger bag was splayed across her chest with a few different stories in it to read to the kids. She figured she looked as presentable as possible before making her way out of the bathroom, and hitting someone with the door as soon as she did. Her cheeks blushed as she realized she hit someone and looked down. "I am so sorry!" She told whoever it was that she had hit, not looking to see as she couldn't contain her embarrassment that way.

Stefan had to travel to Mid Rivers to go to the hospital. He was running out of blood bags at the house as Damon's supply was running short. Damon and Lexi both seemed to be busy doing god knows what, Stefan just hopped that they were not together right now. Stefan began to suspect something was up between the two recently at the BBQ. They seemed to be hanging out, and if Damon and Lexi are hooking up, then Stefan would have to knock some sense into Damon. Lexi was his best friend, if they must be a.. thing, then Damon was gonna treat her right, and vice versa.
So that's why Stefan was here today, to stock up on blood. Lucky for him, he had a supplier at the hospital and paid generously for the blood. Its not like he stole it, or worse. He also refused to take any rare or valuable blood types, only the common ones. That way the risk of someone dying cause of blood loss and the hospital runs out of their blood type is really low. Stefan had hurt and killed enough people in his time to not add the guilt that a little kid dies cause he couldn't get a blood transfusion. Stefan tried to meet his contact in the back, their normal meeting place but the door was locked.
So Stefan decided to enter the hospital. The smell of blood was everywhere and Stefan found himself having a hard time controlling his blood lust. He finally got it under control for the most part, but it was always there. His lust was never fully under control, he just managed it from time to time. Stefan knew it was a good thing that he was on half and half as Lexi liked to call it, but it didn't ease the cravings fully. He in fact found himself hunting for any kind of wild life he could find even more now then before. But it kept him strong, and Elena needed him to be strong, cause her life was in danger.
Sure, it was partially, if not mostly his fault Elena's life was in danger in the first place, but that was neither here nor there. A women exited the restroom and they bumped into each other. Stefan smiled to himself, remembering how he met Elena, or rather how she met him, he knew her way before they really met, but that was a long story. She had come out of the boys bathroom at school and bumped into him, not entirely on accident on his part.
"Uh, Pardon me. Um... Is this the men's room?" "Yes, Um, I was just uh... I was just... It's a long story."
That was their epic meeting, or not so epic, depending how you look at it. Bumping into this girl reminded him of that day, it was a good day. "No, its my fault." Stefan spoke to her, he was kind of lost in his own thoughts at that moment. He smiled at her and though he knew what she was, and she probably knew what he was, he just hoped that they wouldn't be enemies because of this.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -She groaned as she heard the voice of someone she knew quite well. Well, okay, that was a bad term. She didn’t actually know the person that she had run into however she did know of him. Being friends with Elena and Jeremy and acquaintances with Caroline, Bonnie, and several others, she was aware of who all was in their group. She had heard the rumors before she had actually laid eyes on Stefan however that didn’t mean that she hadn’t seen the cute hand holding and such for herself as well. She knew that Elena and Matt had dated and they had broken up with Elena’s parents died. She also knew that Matt had not been happy at first that he had lost his girlfriend to Stefan, at least that’s what she had heard from the various rumor sources in the school.
Not that she often listed to the rumors because really, what did she care? That sounded rude but she wasn’t one to get involved in rumors or really in anyone else’s business. She had enough secrets of her own and she knew what it meant if you had to keep them, so the last thing she would ever do was get into people’s private affairs and try to expose them. And that was what rumors did, they either made things up or they exposed the truth that people didn’t want to be shared.
“I am so sorry.” She told him, rolling her eyes at herself yet her eyes were still looking down. She hated that she was a natural born klutz unless she was on four legs. She wasn’t stupid, she knew about the rumors that had gone around town at one point. She also had the nose of a werewolf so she was well aware that Stefan Salvatore was a vampire. She doubted he knew what she was but that didn’t really matter to her. She kept to herself and she respected Stefan because unless he was protecting someone, normally Elena, he seemed to keep to himself as well.
“Stefan, right? Stefan Salvatore.” He asked, though she knew it was him. “I’ve seen you around school with Elena before.” She stated, admitting that she did know it was him. “I’m a huge klutz, and I often don’t watch where I’m going. And I swear I never talk this much unless I am embarrassed which I am now.” She stated, biting her lip to force herself to stop talking. God what was wrong with her today?

"Its probably my fault, I have a lot on my mind right now." Stefan told her with a smile. Stefan seemingly had a knack for running into people as they came out of a bathroom. As creepy as that sounded he simply smiled at her. "I am the one that is sorry, if my head was in the right place I could of dodged you." Stefan told her, it was true with his un-natural reflexes, he didn't have to run into anyone unless he wanted to or if his mind was elsewhere, which his mind was very often elsewhere because of the life he had. Still, he had a point.
"Do I know you?" Stefan asked her. Stefan normally had a really good memory when it came to faces and people he knew. He recognized Katherine after 150 years despite what she did to him and not looking at her picture ever. Why Stefan held on to that damn photo of Katherine he never knew. Stefan never really threw anything, even a picture of the women that got Stefan and his brother killed and part of the reason their relationship was so strained right now. He still had journals he wrote in the late 1800s, so a photograph placed in a box long ago was not surprising.
"Oh, you know Elena. Sorry, I guess I am a bad boyfriend, as I am suppose to know all her friends." Stefan said half jokingly. "Its fine, don't worry about it." Stefan told her with a grin. It was adorable that she was embarrassed right now. "So how long have you been in Mystic Falls?" Stefan asked her. Maybe he just only ever had eyes for Elena that he never noticed any of the other girls, but he for some reason couldn't remember seeing her around last year. Stefan hasn't returned to school since everything happened, so he didn't know the new students yet and he guessed she was new.
Stefan tried to think, again he had a pretty good memory, most vampires did, most vampires could recall the day they were turned. "I think I remember seeing you before too." Stefan told her. "Do we have English together?" Stefan asked her with a smile. Not that Stefan really needed to go to school, he has already graduated high school 16 times going on 17 and was vastly more smarter then most of his teachers anyways. But when you were forever trapped in a teenagers body, then going to school to pass the time and blend in seemed like a pretty good idea.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -She understood what having a lot on your mind meant. She herself rarely slept more than a few hours these days as her brain never seemed to shut off. No matter what was going on in her life she always tended to worry and obsess over it. Even when things were going well she seemed to think about how easily they could turn sour. She hated being as pessimistic as she was but after everything she had been through over the last few years she unfortunately couldn't help it much. “I’m just a klutz and tend to trip over my own two feet so me running into someone isn’t highly unusual.” She stated softly but with a touch of humor coloring her tone.
She smiled and shook her head at his question about if he knew her. She wasn't surprised or offended that he didn't know who she was. She specifically tried to blend into the background for the most part, especially at school. She didn't want to draw the attention of anyone as she didn't need anyone figuring out her secret. She knew she always looked like the day of the full moon and the two days after thanks to the wolf being confined and using its own body as a way to take out its aggressions. The last thing she wanted was someone connecting the dots.
"From the rumors I've heard and the things that Elena has told me personally I can personally say that no one thinks you’re a bad boyfriend. Don't worry, I'm not up in your face like some of her other friends so it's perfectly understandable that you didn't know me. I'm Isabella." She stated with a soft smile. "I've been in Mystic Falls for about a year now. I came in towards the middle of last year but I tested out of a lot so I took advance placement classes last year." She answered, knowing that not many people would know her from class since she was only in a couple with the students her own age.
She smiled and nodded, English being one of the few classes that was required to be taken with her age group. She was actually taking three English classes, two of them for College Credit and one of them the Senior English Class that everyone was required to take. "Yeah, you and I actually had to get up and read Romeo and Juliet together a few months back." She remembered suddenly, blushing at the memory. “It was awkward to say the least since more than a few of the guys in that class mentioned ratting you out to Elena.” She stated with a laugh.

"I know what you mean." Stefan said, though he wasn't really a klutz himself, he was a vampire so it was almost impossible to be a klutz. He mostly meant he knew what it meant to be stepping on other peoples toes. Sometime he felt like he was walking on egg shells, and one wrong step, one wrong move would make everyone freak out and run for the hills. Even his friends didn't fully trust him yet, at least Stefan thought they would be smart to not to, at least for the time being. Trusting Stefan this quickly after all that he did, was a bit foolish, even he didn't trust himself yet.
So klutz, no, afraid of tripping up and messing up, yes. It wasn't really the same thing, but he understood how she felt at least. He nodded as she mentioned that from what she heard he was not a bad boyfriend. "Thanks, though recent history would have to argue with you." Stefan told her truthfully. Maybe it wasn't really him, and the person that did those things was not him, but it still didn't change the fact that at the end of the day him, or at least part of him, did that stuff. And no matter what, Stefan would never stop blaming himself for those actions.
"How you like it here? Most people I know grew up here, myself included. So we all have our own biased opinions, but someone who just moved here is rare. You like it so far?" Stefan asked her, talking about her was just easier for him, and he didn't want her to think he was prying or anything, just he didn't even know if he had it in him to talk to someone about himself right now, unless that someone was Elena or Lexi that was. At least she didn't ignore him and was actually giving him the time of day, she might have heard rumors about him, and he knew that they were more then likely true.
"Oh two months ago..." Stefan replied, which was probably why he forgot, that's shortly before everything with Damon and Klaus had happened, when he... wasn't himself. He has been so consumed with his own life, that he must of forgot other details. "...Was I any good?" Stefan asked her with a smile. "As Romeo that is." Stefan added in case she didn't know what he was asking about. He shrugged off the comments about the guys wanting to run and tell Elena. It wouldn't do them any good, she knew it didn't mean anything and she knew that Stefan would always be her own personal Romeo.
"I guess I was that convincing huh?" Stefan said with a grin. For some reason this made him feel good, that he pulled off a convincing Romeo, Stefan had always been a romantic at heart, you know when he wasn't running around and killing people that is, so to say that one of the most romantic love stories of all time and he did a good job as the male lead, mean more to him then it should. He wondered if he could pull off Romeo now. Him and Elena were being as romantic as ever, but it felt like so long ago and Stefan felt like a different person.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -She didn’t say anything to Stefan’s statement about being a klutz but she knew he was lying. She knew what he was due to rumors and just general senses due to what she herself was. She didn’t blame him for it and unlike most wolves that she had met (which hadn’t been many due to her own choices) she didn’t hate vampires. She felt like they, like most others, made choices in life and as long as they didn’t try to harm her or someone she cared about she wouldn’t get in their way. She knew that there were good vampires out there such as the man standing in front of her just as there were bad vampires. The same could be said about werewolves, humans, and anything else out there. Sure she understood that a beings nature had something to do about it but everything and everyone had free will…it was what they chose to do with it that made them who they were.
Okay, she really needed to stop reading Harry Potter fanfiction, a guilty pleasure of hers, as she was starting to sound like Albus Dumbledore in her head and that was never a good sign in her opinion even though she did like the character. Focusing her attention back on the man standing in front of her and away from her disturbing thoughts and she smiled sympathetically at him when he spoke about recent history. Just because she kept away from the general crowd of people didn't mean she didn't hear or see things. She knew about what had happened at the school though she didn't know the full story. She did know that Elena and Stefan had hit a bit of a rough patch and from the stirrings in the wolf community it was because of the hybrid who was attempting to create an army of his own race.
She feared the hybrid, she knew his name but didn’t think of it often, because she didn’t want to be immortal nor did she want to be part vampire. Sure she had heard that if you were a hybrid you could stop shifting if you wanted to but was that any reason to become immortal and a part of a race that should never exist? No, at least not in Isabella’s mind and she knew that many of the other wolves that she had slight contact with agreed with her as well.
"Don't put yourself down." She told him before she could stop herself. "We all have times that we're not proud of but its how you deal with them that makes you a great guy. I've seen how Elena lights up when she sees you and obviously she's forgiven you of whatever it was that you two had going on...so don't dwell on it." She told him softly, her voice quiet though stern in a way that not many heard from the normally silent young woman. Strength reverberated around her and it wasn’t physical, but mental. She knew how hard life could be but she dealt with it as best as she could.
She shrugged, knowing he was trying to change the subject and allowing it. It wasn't her business and while she would have been more than happy to bend an ear she understood privacy. "I like it. It would be nice for secrets to stay secrets a little longer but small towns all over are like that." She giggled slightly before nodding. "You were a pretty good Romeo; I did hear a couple girls cooing over your classic romance novel face." She told him jokingly, though it was the truth as well. She had heard it, and she had a feeling that so had Elena as she had shot them a glare when she did. "Your girlfriend didn't find it too amusing though."
Before she could say anything else Mrs. Walters, the woman who ran the department that Isabella was a part of walked out and motioned for the young woman to follow her. "It was nice talking with you Stefan." She told him sweetly before walking towards the door, smelling the scent of blood wafting past her as she did. She tensed as she looked back at Stefan, knowing that he would be able to smell it too.

"Thanks, but I don't handle it well sometimes." Stefan replied to her. He was glad to hear her kind words from for the most part a stranger. Elena probably did forgive him, and he knew the look she got when he walked into the room, her mood instantly changed, rather she was having a bad day or a good day, when Elena saw Stefan, her eyes lit up and everything, at least in that moment for her, was better. But Stefan was a wreck, and most days he handled as well as you would respect, some days, some days he just wanted to curl up into a ball.
Some days the guilt was almost to much, and sometimes thoughts or memories of what he did would come to him and he felt like he had to rip his memory from his head and forget about it, as it would soon be to much to hold it all back. But he didn't give up, and te one that he was handling well was Elena. Things between him and Lexi have been ok, but not where they were a few years ago, and him and Damon were more distant then ever before. Other people were coming around, but Stefan had to cross a lot of bridges yet to get back to where he was.
She told him not to dwell on it. He tried not to, but that was his problem, his eternal problem. He couldn't help it. He had to dwell on it, he had to feel guilty about it. Its who Stefan was, and there was no way he could stop it, it was just the way it was. He nodded however telling her he wasn't gonna give up. He smiled softly, a gentle silent thank you to her. Stefan didn't know her that well, but he knew he wouldn't mind being friends with her already. Stefan could always use more friends, and someone that makes him feel better was a good thing.
Not that he didn't have that with other people, Elena, Caroline, Lexi, they all had their ways of making him feel better. But more people to do it, more time feeling better then not. "Yeah Mystic Falls is a pretty good town with good people once you get use to it." Stefan said to her. Some people weren't worth knowing, but many were really nice people, even if they hated or feared Stefan, he understood why and didn't hold it against them. He grew up in this town back in the day and it was really his home, and it will always be his home.
Stefan just smiled at her, the topic was much better then the previous one of the stuff going on with him and Elena and everything. Talking about pretending to be Romeo and simple stuff like that was easier for him. "So you think I have a shot at broadway?" Stefan asked her jokingly. She then said Elena didn't like it very much and Stefan nodded. "I know, even though she knows she has nothing to worry about." Stefan replied shaking his head. He found it cute that Elena would get upset over that and even endearing of her.
"You too." Stefan said, understanding that she probably had a job to do and he was keeping her from it. He felt a little bad about that, but his mind was instantly taken to somewhere else when he smelled it. The blood. It his his nose and he felt himself tensing up, most of the blood smell in the hospital was fine cause it wasn't fresh, but this, this was fresh, this was strong. His eyes darkened, and he saw her face staring at her. Stefan turned away and began walking really fast, he had to get out of here or he was gonna loose it again.
