----------------------- ----------------------- Tyler walked into the Mystic Grill, backpack slung over his shoulder. Ah, the weekend. Thank goodness. Weekends were good. They provided him with better ways to avoid people. Well, just one person really: Caroline. Oh, Caroline. He missed her, he did. But she just wasn't safe around him. Oh, he could turn if he wanted to---not that he ever did---but he was trying to take down Klaus and he couldn't run the risk of the older man finding out and taking things out on his ex. So yeah, he was avoiding her. That was his plan even before Klaus' little order. As the conversation of a day ago came back to him, Tyler's eyes flashed angrily. He couldn't believe Klaus had the audacity to order him to stay away from Caroline! It was almost enough to make him want to defy him---to declare the girl as his. But he couldn't. It was too dangerous. Tyler mentally shook these thoughts away as he headed for a booth and sat down, placing his backpack on the table. Without a word, he opened the pack and placed his textbooks and notebooks on the table, one after the other. Luckily, he actually didn't have that much to do today. A couple of chapters in history, a math assignment, and an essay for English, with the rest of his homework just consisting of review of stuff that had already been covered in class. Presently, one of the waitresses came over to him. "Heya, Tyler. What can I get you?" she asked. "Coffee please," he requested. "Anything else?" she questioned. "No thanks. Just coffee," he replied. "Coming right up," she promised. "Thanks," Tyler said and then opened his math book to the chapter that had been assigned and started working out the problems, writing them down in the notebook that he used for math class. He had only gotten halfway through the first problem when the waitress came over with his coffee. He nodded his thanks and she walked off. Tyler took a sip and then grimaced at the taste. Ugh. Vervain, he thought as he fought the shudder that coursed through him. Well, he had been planning on adding it to his diet like Caroline had so he supposed that this was as good as time as any to start. He took another sip and then continued with the assignment, willing his body to stop shaking. The last thing he needed was someone reporting him to the Council... OOC I figured that Tyler would be affected by ingesting Vervain because of his vampire side and they showed him being affected by coming into contact with Vervain when he first met the hunter Connor. -----------------------

----------------------- ----------------------- She felt slightly overheated in the afternoon, she'd been out and about for most of the day and had a flush to her cheeks from the coffee in her thermos. Deciding she needed some time in away from the sun she came inside and took off her sunglasses, letting her eyes adjust as she placed her glasses in their case in her beach bag. She smelled of sunscreen for all that she knew she wouldn't burn-- Her daylight jewelry saw to that.
Her heels clicked on the floor of the Grill as she made her way over to a free seat. Just as she got ready to pass a dark haired guy with a swarthy complexion she caught his scent. He wasn't anything like she had ever smelled before and it baffled her. Seeing him hacking on the coffee made her come over, "You okay? I hate it when something goes down the wrong pipe." she added with a sympathetic smile as he seemed to be shuddering, "Did they salt your coffee as a prank?" she asked him in confusion.
Catching a whiff of it she wrinkled her nose, vervain. Well it was good she'd taken to having a little sip of it every day after the Inquisition. She wouldn't be caught flat if she could help it. Still this guy seemed to be having difficulty. "My name is Marina, Marina Sinclaire. I just got into town a little bit ago." she offered to him by way of conversation once she knew he could speak.
She grabbed a chair and scooted it across from him so he would have some space but know she wasn’t going to abandon him till she knew he was okay. It was against her nature to leave anyone in the lurch. She’d been in the same situation too often and refused to let things ever happen like that for someone else. She took off her hat and her braid trailed down behind her back, the flower in her hair highlighting the summery feel as much as the pink ribbon she’d woven in there this morning.

----------------------- ----------------------- Tyler's brows furrowed as he worked out the problem. This was crazy. How was he going to apply this stuff in the real world? Fractions he understood cause you know, cooking used fractions all the time. Not that he cooked all that much, but he tried to make something every once in a while since Mom was busy a lot with work and she didn't need the constant hassle of making him dinner. Mind you, he wasn't that good at cooking, but his heart was in the right place and he knew that his mother appreciated the gesture, even though they usually had to order out after his attempts. But anyways, back to the problem. He worked at it some more before finally throwing his pencil down. This is crazy! I'm not getting this. Pride be damned! I'm getting a tutor! he thought to himself. There had to be someone at school who would take pity on him and help him out. He was about to go on to the next assignment, when he heard a woman asking him if he was okay, adding that she hated it when things went down the wrong pipe. Did she see me drinking the Vervain? he wondered to himself as he looked up. He had to admit, he hadn't even been aware of her presence as he had been focusing on his homework. At the question of whether or not his coffee had been salted as a prank, Tyler chuckled. "Yeah, something like that," he answered. He couldn't very well say that he had been sipping Vervain. Well, he supposed he could as he caught a scent that was similar to Caroline's, which meant that the woman before him was a vampire. However, he had no idea if she was a friend or an enemy, so it would be best to play the ignorant card. If she turned out to be someone he could trust, all the better, but if she was working with Klaus, well..he could play "Lap dog" as long as he needed to in order to gather up any information he could in order to take the guy down. She then sat down, introducing herself as Marina Sinclaire and stated that she had just gotten into town a little while back. "Nice to meet you, Marina. I'm Tyler. What brings you to Mystic Falls?" he wondered. Man, there's a lot of people moving here all of a sudden. What gives? Is this part of Klaus' plan? he mused to himself. That was a scary thought. If the man had a large network of people who were loyal to him, they were all in more trouble than he had originally thought. He really hoped that wasn't the case, as this town had had more trouble than it could handle recently, but it wasn't like he was in a position to do anything about it. Well...at least...not yet... -----------------------

----------------------- ----------------------- He had the oddest scent she had ever encountered. It was like he was a vampire but not quite. It had wolf overtones and that worried her. She'd seen werewolf hunts in France and it always scared her. Scared werewolves were dangerous and they didn't tend to care whom they hurt in their attempt to get away from what had scared them. She kept her distance believable and didn't invade his space any when she had sat down. "I figured as much." she nodded as she realized he was okay and wasn't going to die from the vervain in his coffee.
Relaxing in her chair a bit more she regarded him a moment as he focused on her, "I'm an old friend of Stefan, Damon and Lexi's. I heard there was some property available out here so I purchased some. Its a bit out of the way; I don't like crowds." she admitted as she sat there and a waitress put a glass of water down for her, she ignored it once she smelled the vervain and focused on Tyler, "Stefan goes to high school. Do you happen to know him? I'm not sure how big the school is so for all I know you've only seen him in the yearbook." she laughed softly.
"If I'm disturbing you I can go. I just saw that it looked like you needed a hand there a moment ago. I don't want to outstay my welcome. I've got to meet Lexi in a few hours." she said as she pulled out her invitation, "Some reunion thing. Hopefully I don't look too worn out. I've been dealing with movers the last few days and just decided I needed to stretch my legs." she said happily.

----------------------- ----------------------- Tyler grinned as the girl said that she had figured as much when he gave the response that someone had messed with his drink as a prank. So it wasn't exactly true. She didn't need to know that. Especially since he wasn't sure if she was someone he could trust. And for right now, he was going to play it safe. "Yeah, it sucks, but what can you really do?" he questioned with a shrug. It's not like it'd be a good idea to suggest not Vervaining people, he thought to himself. After all, with Klaus running around, putting Vervain in the drinks was one of the few ways his mother and Sheriff Forbes had of protecting Mystic Falls. He then focused on her as she went on to say that she was a friend of the Salvatores and someone named Lexi and that she had bought some property that was isolated as she wasn't fond of crowds. "That makes sense," Tyler stated, his brows furrowed in concentration as he mulled over the third name that she had mentioned. Lexi. That name sounded familiar, but he couldn't be sure of why. Maybe it was one of the new people he had seen around town? It was certainly possible, and with all the newcomers they had had lately, it was somewhat hard to keep track of everybody, though he was trying his best to do so in case he could convince someone to help him battle Klaus. When she mentioned that Stefan was in high school and then asked him if he knew him, Tyler nodded. "Yeah, I've seen him around school. We have some of the same friends though we don't exactly travel in the same circles," he responded carefully. Sure she claimed to be friends of the Salvatores, but for all he knew, it was a ploy to see what kind of information he had. And while he may not like the Salvatore brothers, he wasn't looking to get them hurt or killed either. At her offer to leave if she was disturbing him, he shook his head. "No, you're not disturbing me. It's perfectly fine. I was just stuck on a math assignment. I'm probably going to have to get myself a tutor," he answered. Yep. Definitely gonna get a tutor. I suck at it, he thought to himself. And yes, he could readily admit this...to himself at least. And to whoever he decided to ask help from. It was a strange notion, asking for help. That wasn't really his thing, but on the other hand, he really wanted to pass the class. He then gave another nod as she explained that she was on her way to meet Lexi in a few hours, and that she had needed a break from dealing with movers as she had dealt with them for the past few days. "Where'd you move from?" he asked curiously. -----------------------

----------------------- ----------------------- Well he wasn't opening up if his response was any indicator. She should have expected such, he didn't know her and she wasn't born and raised here. She could live here a thousand years and until this generation that knew of her had died off she'd still be a newcomer or worse, a carpetbagger. Southerners were known for being warm but there were times when they put up the blinders. This was one of those times.
This kid certainly wasn't free with information. He seemed to give monosyllable answers or more to the point, ones that indicated he did not feel like answering questions. This town was like working a Chicago comedy club during a bears game, that is to say that 90 percent of the people seemed to have their attentions divided. Being a high school kid made this guy no exception. "Yeah well its no big deal. I'll run into him eventually, I'm sure." she said as she shrugged off his comment of not running in Stefan's circle.
"Ahh yeah I get that. Would you like my help? I've got a little free time and I don't charge." she said as she offered an olive branch. "I came here from Newport News. I lived there a few years but I wanted someplace that worked at a slower place. Just needed a change of scene without trying to squeeze my possessions into Williamsburge which is crowded or Jamestown which has an overrunning of deer because its illegal to hunt them."
Everything she had said could be verified visa vie the internet. Including her Virginia ID. She was not silly enough to not cover her rear. If they did do some looking they would find she was from old money on her Scottish side. All vampires had really good paperwork if they made the effort. It was second nature after 350 years.

----------------------- ----------------------- Tyler nodded in agreement as the girl stated that she would probably run into Stefan sooner or later. "I'd imagine that you would. This is a pretty small town," he stated. Yeah, okay, so his monosyllabic answers were bordering on rude and if his mother was here, she'd kick his butt for how he was acting, but he wasn't about to go spilling town secrets to some total stranger. Not that he'd tell anyone else the truth about Mystic Falls either, but yeah...he knew what he meant. This girl was a stranger and looking for Stefan Salvatore. He didn't know who she was or why she was looking for him, but he wasn't about to give her any ammunition to work with. Then he let out a mental scoff. Why was he protecting the guy? He was a vampire. Okay, yeah, technically, so was he now, but was a Hybrid, meaning he was also a werewolf, and he had been a werewolf before he was a vampire, so why was he looking out for the guy? It just didn't make sense. At her offer of help, Tyler grinned. "Yeah, that'd be great!" he responded. This way, I can get math done and then do everything else without having it loom over me and I won't feel like an idiot for putting it off, he thought to himself. He then nodded as she went on to say that she had lived in Newsport News, and that she had moved to Mystic Falls for the pace without having to squeeze all of her things into Williamsburg or have to deal with the deer population in Jamestown. "I suppose that makes sense," he stated. "Then again, what do I know? I've lived here all my life and I've never traveled outside of Virginia," he commented. There. He was sharing something with her. Tit for tat and all that jazz. Not that it was much, but at least now it didn't seem like he was being rude. "So, what's Newsport like?" he wondered. -----------------------

"Ok, well lets get this Math tackled then." she said trying to change the subject to something the kid would talk about. She waited for him to open his books and pull out his notes. "There are some really good channels on youtube for mathematics help if you need them." she added, "That way you can have something to look at at home too rather than trying to trace back everything." she took out a napkin and jotted some channel names down. "These should get you started. They go all the way from basics to calculus."
She began to get engrossed in the subject with him as they worked on understanding what parts of his homework he didn't understand then worked on showing him the formula's that he could apply. She did keep an eye on the time, knowing that she had to meet Lexi and that Tyler probably had things to do as well.
"When you get a chance you should travel to Shenandoah Valley. The waterfalls there are gorgeous and if you need time to think or just recharge that is the place to do it. Gotta love camping though. Otherwise you will be so bored." she said with a smile.
"Newport News is nice. Its where the navel shipyard is so consiquently there are a lot of restaurants from different countries there. All the naval men who married women from other countries seem to retire there so you can go one block and eat authentic Etheopian fair to authentic Cicilian pizza. There is this one italian place called Joe and Mima's that is fantastic. Joe ships food to the troupes its really great. Plus there are the usual benifits of the city you know, sports centers, hockey, concerts."
She stopped herself, "Sorry, don't mean to overwhelm you. Just learned a long time ago that if you know where to eat and where the shows are any place you go you end up having a good time."

----------------------- ----------------------- Tyler nodded in determination as Marina said that they should get looking at the Math assignment and looked at her with interest as she mentioned some Youtube channels, saying that they could give him some help so that he wouldn't have to retrace his steps all the time as they covered everything from the basics to Calculus. "That'd be great. Thanks," he said, taking the sheet. Then he showed her what he had been working on, and before he knew it, they had finished the assignment. "And we are done! Yes! The most evil of subjects is complete!" he exclaimed before he could help himself. Then, he threw her a sheepish grin. "Sorry. As you could probably tell, this isn't my best subject," he apologized. Which, you know, was putting it mildly, but at least it was finished now and he could relax a bit for a few moments before moving on to his other assignments. Those assignments were a breeze compared to his Math. Not that he wouldn't do his best with the other subjects as well, but they weren't nearly as stressful for him. He grinned as she told him that if he ever got the chance, he should visit Shenandoah Valley as the water falls were pretty and that it was a good place to relax, adding that one should probably be a fan of camping if they didn't want to get bored there. "Sounds like it'd be a great place to do some sketching," he commented. And it really did. If there were waterfalls, there would most likely be woods, which meant that except for an occasional visitor and regular wood sounds, it'd be deserted. And Tyler often did his best sketching in silence. He didn't know why that was, it just was. He listened in interest as she told him that Newsport News was nice, being located near a naval yard, which in turn meant there was a lot of different restaurants from different countries as well as the usual benefits of a city such as a sports center, hockey, and concerts. "That sounds cool," he commented. He then waved off her apology with a hand. "You didn't overwhelm me at all. You're right. Knowing the hot spots does guarantee a good time," he stated. He'd have to remember that for after high school. Hey, he had always wanted to travel and he'd probably be able to get in a pretty good trip before going off to college. Well, at least he hoped he would. He supposed he'd have to wait and see what his grades---and the Klaus situation---were like... -----------------------

Tyler seemed to open up with the math help and if his exclamation were any indicator he was glad it was over with "I always hated Math too so don't worry." she chuckled as she looked over the last of it and he put it away.
She nodded about it being a place to do some sketching, "Sounds like a lot of fun. Good way to get away from the crowds and noise. Its one of the reasons I came here. I'm not big on crowds I like having a place where its quiet and I can think." she said with a simple shrug and smile.
"Well I'm glad I could help. Seems like Shenandoah would be good for a class trip for biology class." she chuckled and nodded as they spoke. She glanced at her watch, "Hey, I've got to get going. I promised Lexy I'd meet her at the hotel but it was really great to meet you, Tyler. Here's my card. Its just got my phone number on it cause I haven't got my new ones in yet but feel free to call if you need more math help." she said as she passed him the simple card with her name and card.
Marina Sinclaire Librarian 555-9246
She brushed her hair over her shoulder and scooted her chair back into place as she rose, being sure to pick up her purse and phone so she didn't leave anything behind. She stretched a little bit and sighed as her back relaxed from all the packing and unpacking. Even with movers there was always something you had to adjust for. There was no way out of it. Then there was always the inevitable sorting that happened where you got rid of all the extraneous crap that got collected.

----------------------- ----------------------- Tyler had been a bit embarrassed at his exclamation after they had finished his Math assignment, but luckily, Marina seemed to understand and told him that she had hated Math as well. "Glad I'm not the only one," he stated. There were times that he seriously wondered what the point of the subject was besides driving kids insane. Because seriously, when were you ever going to need to know what x over y was? He could understand fractions and things like that as you could apply it to cooking, but Algebra seemed to be totally useless. He then nodded as she said that sketching sounded fun and and that it was a good way to get away from crowds, which she didn't like and was the reason that she had moved to Mystic Falls. "I don't mind crowds as a rule, but sometimes you just need your space," he said, nodding in understanding. And that was certainly the truth. He couldn't count how many times over the years that he had sneaked away from friends at a party to have a drink or just do some sketching. It often helped him to think things through. He then threw her a grin when she told him that she was glad that she had been able to help him and that Shenandoah sounded like it'd be a good place for a biology class. "Yeah, I know, right?" he agreed. And it really did. All the fresh air, the insects that were probably there...it'd be a biologist's dream. Aww...now he wanted to go there. Not that he was a biologist by any means, but the place was starting to sound really nice. He then nodded in understanding as she said that she had to meet a friend named Lexi and then gave him a card with her number on it, saying that it was nice to meet him and that he could call her if he needed math help again. "Yeah, I'll keep that in mind, thanks. And it was nice to meet you too," he told her. As she gathered up her things, Tyler opened up his history book and flipped through the pages until he came to the first assigned chapter and started reading. Now that Math was finished, the rest of his subjects would be a breeze. And that felt damn good. OOC And the thread is finished. -----------------------
