- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -It had been awhile since she had been anywhere by herself. Usually she had someone 'guarding' her since it seemed as if all bad things inevitably either happened to her or related to her somehow. So recently, well, not so recently, it seemed as if she had someone always watching her every move. Whether it be Stefan, though before the Klaus fiasco at least the two were able to be seen in public together. Now she knew that there were a few times that he had watched her from the shadows, her silent avenging angel, making sure that she was safe.
Then there was Damon, who granted she hadn't seen recently but still even when Stefan had been gone he was protecting her in his own annoying overbearing way. Then there was Lexi, who had been her constant over the past several months. The two had bonded quite well but a lot of that had to do with the fact that they both loved (in different ways) the same man. Luckily for them the two got along extremely well or else Stefan would have had his hands full with the both of them. Granted, he still might, but at least the two wouldn’t pull him in the middle.
Hearing a whistle pulled her out of her musings as she headed to where there was a man with a bright orange folder. She was currently touring the Richmond University campus. She had been here numerous times before whether it be for parties or for games that she and Matt had attended, however she had never truly paid attention to the academic side of things so that was what she had signed up for. She hadn’t told any of her friend, or Jeremy or Ric for that matter, that she was coming here. She had wanted to do this on her own.
She knew that realistically she was being foolish being on her own, but she had needed it. She needed to be able to see a light at the end of the tunnel so to speak, even if it was just a lamp that she had put there to get through it all. Somehow the end of high school used to seem so big to her, now it didn’t seem to matter much at all. She barely attended anyway over the past year or so, having even joked to Stefan last year about them tending to forget to go to class. Now it seemed as if nothing would change once high school ended since her life no longer revolved on going to school, getting good grades, and getting into a good college.
It revolved around surviving.
She remembered Jeremy telling her that none of them were going to make it out of this town alive, and in some ways she knew that he was right. She couldn’t leave, what would the point be? She knew that Klaus would follow her so why inflict his misery on another town? At least in Mystic Falls more than a few people knew about it so they knew how to protect themselves…at least as much as possible.
She listened to the tour guide going over the ins and outs before she took a packet that was handed to her. Once they were given free rein to explore for the next hour or so she headed back outside, touring the campus itself rather than looking at the classrooms. She needed room to breathe, maybe this would give her the ability to do so.

----------------------- ----------------------- Alaric didn’t know how long he had been away from Elena’s house. It had been weeks after the dream he had of Jenna. He missed her and didn’t know what he was going to do. He had been drinking less and less every day all for Elena. She was the one who asked him to stop drinking so much because she and Jeremy needed him to be their guardian after Jenna’s death. He finally got to where he drinked during dinner and that was it unless he went and visited Damon then he drinked a little. But all in all he had got a handle on his drinking like she asked.
Alaric was soon going to be staying at her house again to keep an eye on her and Jeremy. He just needed some time to himself at his apartment. He used that time to clear his head before he went off the deep end again with his drinking as the dream had messed his head up pretty bad. He knew Elena would be okay though because of everyone who was watching over her. He also knew that Elena could protect herself because he had taught her how to fight vampires himself. He knew what she was capable of. Alaric had taken a day off to go visit a friend of his at Richmond University. She was constantly trying to get him to take a teaching job at the University but he always turned it down. He didn’t want to leave the high school. He enjoyed his job very much and he wouldn’t leave those kids in that school alone with the Mikaelson family running around. He just wanted to make sure everyone was okay. They were like family to him.
He didn’t know where Klaus or his siblings were at the moment and really he didn’t care. He hoped that they would leave soon so that everyone in Mystic Falls would be safe again. He needed to figure out some way to kill them because the longer they were there the more danger Elena and everyone else was in and the more they couldn’t have a normal life. Alaric just didn’t want that for any of those kids. Tyler and Caroline’s lives were already changed enough because Caroline was a vampire and Tyler was a vampire-werewolf hybrid now thanks to Klaus. Everything was just messed up now and he wanted them to have a normal life as possible.
Alaric was heading into the school when he saw Elena. He stood there smiling hoping she was there because she was thinking about going to school here. He was hoping that she was still considering going to college. He knew she would do well anywhere she went. He watched her for a minute then walked over to her with his hands in his pockets. Hey there Elena he said standing there in front of her. He saw the paper in her hand that the tour guide handed to students touring the campus. He was glad to see she was considering going here. It’s good to see you’re still thinking about college he said motioning to the paper in her hand. ----------------------- WORD COUNT:: TAG:: OUTFIT:: NOTES::

- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -She continued to walk around the campus, looking at different things. She noted with a smile that there was a class being taught outside under a canopy. It was still a bit chilly in her opinion but the students seemed to be enjoying the fresh air. She had always dreamed of taking a class where she could learn out in the open rather than in a tiny classroom. She didn’t like enclosed spaces, never had…though it had gotten worse after her parents car accident. She remembered to this day that she had never truly gotten over her fear of cars, though she had learned to deal with it.
Continuing to walk she saw the cafeteria, though it really wasn’t a cafeteria so much as a food court where several fast food chains had small places set up. It reminded her of the food courts at any mall though it was nice that each of them took the university’s meal plans rather than forcing all the university students to pay cash. She had gone over the handbook and outlines earlier in the week on one of her few moments of free time without a body guard around and not only with the distance but with everything else it seemed like a great college.
Looking in the glass windows she caught her reflection. Her hair was down and straight like always, though she did have a rubber band around her left wrist when it started to annoy her as it often did when she was doing something. Granted she usually left it down but that didn't mean she wouldn't throw it up should she get frustrated by it getting in her face. She had dressed casual today like most days with a pair of boot cut jeans and a plain long sleeve shirt. Her necklace hung around her neck as it always did and she paired it with a set of bracelets that she had completely forgotten about until she had cleaned out her jewelry box a few days prior. Her messenger bag was slung around her chest with her black leather jacket folded over it, basically for a 'just in case' instance.
Before she could walk any further she heard a voice from behind her calling her name. Turning around she bit back a groan when she saw that it was Alaric. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to be around him but she wasn’t exactly happy with the fact that he was here. She had wanted to do this on her own and yet it seemed as if fate was against her. She didn’t even want to know how he had found out that she was here since she highly doubted that it was a coincidence. “Ric.” She stated, no emotion in her voice. “What are you doing here?” She asked, wondering if he would come clean and say that he had somehow found out that she was here or if he would try to lie and say that he was here just because.

----------------------- ----------------------- Alaric was going to have a day off from everything that was happening in Mystic Falls. He was going to go to Richmond, Virginia and talk to a friend he had known for a long time, since before college. They had gone to high school together and he was happy to visit her every year. They had been great friends so they made it a point to stay in contact. Alaric never told her about the supernatural world to keep her safe. He would never drag her into this unless it got to her first, well if they attack her. He would hate if something happened to her and hoped that none of this life ever fell onto her. Alaric wouldn’t wish this life on anyone.
He had gone to Richmond early in the morning. He had grabbed something to eat in Richmond at a small dinner. He had gotten eggs, bacon, toast, grits, and coffee to drink. It used to be Alaric would have bourbon in the morning but thanks to Elena he quit drinking so much just drinked a little at night. If it wasn’t for Elena he would probably be dead by now for all the drinking he had done after Jenna died. He had gotten better finally and it was all because of Elena and Jeremy. Without them he wouldn’t have cared about his life after losing Jenna because he wouldn’t have seen the point. But Elena and Jeremy both wanted to learn how to fight vampires, how to protect themselves. So he taught them how to do that.
He would never let anyone else into this though especially Alexis. She had had some trouble before in her life and he would not drag her into this one. He would never forgive himself if anything happened to her. He wouldn’t let any other innocent person get hurt or killed because of him. He knew the others felt the same way after everything that has happened. When he saw Elena standing there he was glad to see that she was still interested in college. He wondered why she didn’t tell him about this but figured she needed an escape from the everyday of her life right now. No one could blame her either after everything that had happened. They all needed that escape sometimes.
She asked him what he was doing there and he would just have to be honest. He never told anyone about Alexis because he was afraid if he did then something may happen to her later. He didn’t want that at all. He sighed and ran a hand through his hair. Just visiting an old friend who works here he said with a smile. He stuffed his hands into his pockets and sighed. So are you touring the campus? Thinking about coming here after you graduate he asked smiling. He was glad that she was thinking about college. He hoped Jeremy was thinking about it. He would have to talk to him later and see if he was. ----------------------- WORD COUNT:: 505 TAG:: Elena Gilbert OUTFIT:: NOTES::

- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -She tilted her eyebrow up at her guardian with a challenging look. She adored Alaric, she really did. He was a cross between an older brother and a father figure, with a tiny bit of mentor thrown in there. This did not mean however that she trusted his word at all times, like now. She was suspicious of everyone after all that she had been through and with good reason. How many times had those that she loved, Alaric included, lied to her to keep her safe? One time in particular she remembered when he had helped everyone keep her inside the house. Granted, it hadn’t worked and she had gotten herself kidnapped from the masquerade ball but still, she had still been lied to. She would have stayed inside had she been told.
Okay she probably wouldn’t have but that was beside the point.
“I didn’t know you had any old friends this way. I thought all of your old friends were at Duke?” She asked him before shaking her head. “You know what, never mind. I probably don’t want to know. If you are here to meet up with some girl than please spare me the details. I’ve already seen you in nothing but boxers eating ice cream…really don’t want to repeat that experience.” She told him with a wink before busting out into a small fit of laughter, clearly remembering the night in question with Jenna in nothing but his shirt and him in nothing but boxers and then standing there before stating quite obviously ‘I’m naked…so I’m going to go’. Yes, Ric was a trip…in a good way that is. She missed the carefree nature that Jenna had seemed to bring out in him, then again she was sure that he did as well. It saddened her that Alaric had lost so much love in his life and she made a small prayer that he find someone who was meant for him.
Hearing his question she shrugged her slender shoulders. “Not sure really. I know that I can’t go that far unless we somehow find a way to get rid of Klaus and the rest of the originals so maybe here is as far as I can go. I can’t inflict them on another town…at least most everyone in Mystic Falls knows what they are dealing with.” She told him with a look around her in emphasis. “People in other towns or states…they have no idea the danger that could be inflicted and I won’t be the one that opens their eyes to it.” She answered.
Almost as if she heard his thoughts she shook her head. “I don’t know what Jeremy’s plans are for after high school but he’s only a junior this year so he has time. I personally hope he leaves Virginia and never looks back, but I know that I’m probably hoping in vain for that.”

----------------------- ----------------------- Alaric wanted Elena to do whatever she wanted after high school; well he meant college and future career. He wanted her to be able to leave Mystic Falls if she wanted to, go to college, and just be normal once again. It was what she deserved. Elena had basically done enough already. She didn’t need all this. Yes Alaric did everything he could to keep her safe, even lie to her sometimes. She wouldn’t listen sometimes and he and others had to make sure she was safe. Klaus and his family constantly put her life in danger and they all knew that Elena would rather give up her life than let anyone get hurt. It was just who she was and Alaric respected that but wished she wouldn’t.
Elena said she didn’t know he had any friends this way and that they were all at Duke. He smiled and ran a hand through his hair. Yeah most of them are at Duke but this one is different. She has been a good friend since high school. We went to the same college but she moved out here after graduating. She liked it better out here he said his arms crossed over his chest. Alaric had fun at college with his friends. He wanted Elena to have the same experience he had. It wouldn’t be fair for her to be stuck around here because of what has happened to her lately. He smiled at her next statement about not needing to know if he is meeting up with a girl. It’s not like that Elena. We are just friends alright he said.
He sighed hearing her answer to his question. She wasn’t going to go far and he didn’t like hearing that. She should go wherever she wanted. I understand that Elena but you should go wherever you want. You shouldn’t pick your college because of Klaus he said to her hoping she would listen to him. He sighed and ran a hand through his hair again. I know how you feel Elena he said sighing. You pick whatever college you want alright. I will make sure Klaus never follows you alright he said. He nodded at Elena’s statement. Yeah I hope so to but you should as well. You have been enough without giving up the college you have wanted to go to Elena. Your parent’s wouldn’t want that, your Aunt Jenna wouldn’t want that. She would be telling you the same thing I am if she was here. You can’t give up your dreams because of Klaus. You know that he said hoping he was getting through to her. ----------------------- WORD COUNT:: 440 TAG:: Elena Gilbert OUTFIT:: NOTES:: this sucks i know but i wanted to get it done and up there for you.

- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -Feeling the sun beat down on her face she unzipped her jacket and took it off, revealing her royal blue shirt. She laid the leather jacket over her messenger bag which was strung over her body. Pushing both sleeves up to allow some of the sun to kiss her olive skin. As she did so her bracelet was revealed, one that no one had really ever seen her wear. It wasn’t a big deal but she liked it. It was different than normal and she felt as if it fit her with the words and the look of it. Plus for some strange reason it went well with her locket.
She quirked an eyebrow in question when Alaric talked about his friend. “Are we talking about a friend friend or something more than a friend?” She asked him curiously. Putting her hand on his shoulder she looked at him in sympathy. “You know that neither Jeremy nor I would be mad at you for moving on right? I mean, we both know that you loved Jenna but I know and I think you do too that she wouldn’t want you to wallow over her forever. It’s okay to move on Ric.” She told him, hoping that he would eventually find someone to love him. She believed in soul-mates and while she knew that Jenna and Alaric had a great love, she also believed that had Jenna been the right one for Alaric then she would still be here. There was someone out there for him and she hoped that he would see that when the time came.
Hearing his statement she grinned. “Mmhmmm. Sure you are.” She told him before dropping the subject for the moment, not knowing if he wanted her in his business. She would pry later on but she didn’t want to start a fight or even an argument in the middle of a college campus, especially one that she was considering attending.
Seeing Alaric run his hands through his hair again she smirked. "Is there a reason you keep running your hand through your hair or is just a nervous habit?" She asked him, wondering since she hadn't noticed him doing it before. "As for Klaus, you can't make that promise Ric and I won't ask you too. We both know that if Klaus is still alive and kicking when it's time for me to leave, he'll follow me wherever I go. I'm the only way he can make his hybrids so where I go, so does he. At least here people know the score." She told him, not seeming bothered by it. And in truth she wasn't. She didn't know even if Klaus wasn't around if she would want to leave...she had grown up in Virginia, it was the only home she had ever known.
“I know my parents would want me to do what makes me happy…but who says I can’t be happy here? It’s not like it’s a community college or that I can’t get a good education here. I don’t even know what I want to major in anymore. School hasn’t exactly been my priority over the past year.” She told him with a self deprecating laugh.
Before Alaric could say anything else she heard a whistle blow. She looked over and saw the tour guide motioning for people to come back to him. “Hey Ric I have to go. Time to go sit in on a class. I’ll see you at home.” She told him with a wave of her hand. Walking back over she let out a large sigh, wanting to experience things that she hadn’t ever done before…and experience them by herself.
