At the moment, Angel was pacing back and forth in the basement. He was waiting for Buffy to get home from work. Although she'd taken a few days off here and there lately because of Glory she'd been forced to go in today. It didn't much matter, what he had planned for her was better at night anyways. It was just nerve-wracking to be waiting for her like this. Partly because he hadn't done anything like this with her in a very long time. Years actually, it'd literally been years. On top of that? He didn't know how she was going to react. It wasn't anything earth shattering that he had planned but in his mind he was excited and nervous, and it seemed like a rather big deal to him. Hopefully she'd feel the same...in more ways than one about tonight.
Adorned in a purple dress shirt, dress slacks, his dress coat that she'd given him for Christmas, and dress shoes, he was ready to go. The thick hair on his head was perfectly gelled and ready as well. Everything was perfect...yet he was slightly freaking out. He could only hope that everything would go as planned. He'd put a lot together tonight and he hoped nothing went wrong, or it'd ruin the entire night. The jewelry box tightly tucked away in his pocket he heard her coming through the door just as he'd started heading up the stairs.
Cutting her entrance off to the stairs, he stretched his arm out to the other side so she couldn't bypass him. "Will you come somewhere with me?" he asked, tilting his head to the side. All of this felt new to him...Asking her out on a date? Jesus. He hadn't been out on a date since other than Buffy since Nina...and he didn't think his recent time with Buffy truly counted as a real date. No, but tonight would. Hopefully it would be better than any other too. When she accepted he nodded and allowed his arm to fall back down to his side so she could get by.
Moving to the side, he nodded towards her room as if insinuating that she should go upstairs. "I'll wait. You're going to want to dress warm" he told her, the nerves clearly showing through not only his voice but his face as well. It wasn't anything too noticeable but it was definitely there. With this he went outside and got into his car. Although it wasn't too cold, he wanted to warm it up before he drove it. He had to take care of it, it was his baby, and it was very old. Starting the engine he idly tapped his fingers on the steering wheel while he waited for her to come outside.

- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -It had been an extremely long day. She had taken a few days off of work after the whole Glory debacle but unfortunately report cards were due home this week which meant she was stuck going in. Waking up this morning had been a pain in itself since all she had wanted to do was curl up in some comfy clothes and lay in bed (having been out until 3am patrolling) but no, she didn’t have that luxury. So instead of dressing in sweatpants and a hoodie she had donned a purple wrap around dress, and purple heels that she specifically bought for the dress itself. She wasn’t usually one that wore purple but it was cute and on sale.
Unfortunately by the end of the day her feet were killing her since the shoes had never been worn. Walking through the door she was surprised to see Angel standing looking as if he was a young man waiting for his prom date. “Angel?” She asked him, a quirk of her perfectly manicured eyebrow. Hearing his request she thought about denying him but that had never truly been an answer with him. She had always been one to give him what he wanted, or at least most of the time that is. “Sure.” She nodded, looking around, trying to decide if something was wrong or if he just wanted to talk. He looked nervous which in itself was strange. She had seen Angel rush headlong into a battle and never look nervous, yet today he looked as if he had swallowed a lemon. “Is everything okay?” She asked briefly, though didn’t really expect an answer.
She was surprised to hear him tell her to go change since she thought that she looked fairly decent for the time being. However hearing that it would be cold sparked something inside her though she couldn’t figure out what. “Uh, sure. Let me go change. I’ll be right down.” She told him before walking upstairs, her brows furrowed as she tried to figure out what was wrong with the dark haired vampire. She heard the door shut and assumed he had gone on to warm the car, something that she knew he did for her since he really didn’t get affected by the outside temperature like she did. Rummaging through her closet she squinted, trying to decide what to wear.
Figuring she would go for casual while still slightly classy she slid on a pair of skinny jeans and a low v-neck sweater. Pairing it with a pair of sweater boots that she had bought on a whim and her cross necklace that Angel had given her when she was sixteen she was ready to go. Taking her hair out of her clip she let it fall down past her shoulders, down almost to her shoulder blades, noting with a sigh of distaste that she needed a haircut. She made a mental note before pulling on a black pea coat that had a small belt around it.
Once she realized that she was ready she headed downstairs and made her way outside and slid into the passenger seat of Angel’s car, looking at him with curiosity. “Okay, what’s going on?”

Having ignored her question, Angel waited patiently in the car for her to return. He'd nodded to her, that everything was alright, but hadn't delved any further into the question. Truth be told everything was just fine. More or less he was just being a big baby because he was afraid of what her response might be. It was an awful time to be doing what he planned to do, but then again if he waited for a good time it might never come. So he was going to do it anyways and he'd suffer any consequences he came across later. Right now all he wanted to do was drive. To get to their destination and then hopefully everything would be alright. One could hope, couldn't they?
After what nearly seemed like an eternity, he heard the front door open and close. Looking up to see the blonde he watched her approach the car he couldn't help but notice how beautiful she looked. Even in such casual clothing - which he actually preferred on her. The dress she'd worn to work had been beautiful as well but it just didn't suit her in his opinion. When she got in he started to slowly back out of the car. Keeping his eyes on the road he simply shrugged. "You'll see" he stated mysteriously, revealing nothing with his voice or face. It was going to be a surprise and he wanted to keep it that way. With everything they had going on, she needed something happy in her life. Angel wanted to be the person to do that for her.
The rest of the ride was actually pretty silent. Buffy stared him down most of the time wanting to know where they were going. While her pouty face was hard to resist he managed - for the sake of wanting to surprise her. He tried his best not to even look as he didn't want to fall into the cuteness trap. When they finally pulled up to the Richmond Big Shot, he saw that she looked slightly confused. Parking the car he signaled for her to wait and got out, heading to the passenger door. Opening her door for her he stopped her before she could say anything. "Just trust me, okay?" he asked. When she nodded he shut her door and then wrapped a sash bandanna that had been in his pocket as a blindfold covering her eyes. Leading her with his hand on the small of her back, they stayed outside and headed to the back of the building. Once finally there he stopped her.
"Wait here. Don't move" he stated, his voice calm and warm, not commanding. Running back to the car he retrieved a couple of items and then hurried back. With everything fully in place, he finally set the items down and then took off her blindfold. In front of her was an outdoor ice skating rink lined with a white picket fence. Their were Christmas trees surrounding it, and the entire thing was lit up. Underneath the moonlight it was breathtaking. "I paid them to keep it up past Christmas, thought you'd like it.." he said, before reaching down and picking up the ice skates he'd brought with him. "I hope yours still fit. I got them out of storage" he told her, before looking back out onto the empty rink. It was all just for them.

- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -She waited a few moments before he finally responded, and of course it was something cryptic. She really had thought that he had outgrown the cryptic speech that had seemed to be his only form of communication at one time. "Okay Mr. Cryptic." She told him with a roll of her hazel eyes, though there was a small smile playing on her face. It had been a long time since the two had done anything other than either argue, fight, or battle some sort of hell spawn whether it be demon or otherwise. She was looking forward to a nice normal night…if there was such a thing.
“Just tell me this, are we going to kill something because if so I have no weapons on me.” She told him but as she had guessed she didn’t receive a response. The look he shot her was one of annoyance though she could tell he was joking. Not many would be able to tell the difference but she had invested a lot of time into studying his different expressions and this was one of playful annoyance. “Okay, I’ll just sit here and wait until you decide to talk.” She told him, her own playfulness coming out even more.
She started out looking out the window though very quickly got bored so instead she stared at him, pouting her lips up just a bit to see if it would work. She occasionally saw him glance her way but for the most part he kept his eyes on the road, she assumed so that he would be able to keep his secret. Hmmph. She'd get him back for this one day. She had never been one for patience and he out of everyone should know that.
They finally arrived at what looked like a community center; one that she had passed a few times on her way to work but had never truly paid much attention to it. She saw him signal for her to wait and while a tiny part of her thought about getting out just to annoy him she did as he asked, trying to at least pretend she would be good. She watched as he made his way around the door and moved to step out when he stopped her. She nodded to his request for her to trust him, biting her lip to keep herself from spilling out some particularly corny line about how she trusted him with her life. Going from light to dark as the blindfold was placed over her eyes she looked to where she thought he was. "Just don't lead me into oncoming traffic or anything. That might hurt."
Once they had come to a stop she did as he asked, not saying a word as she felt through their connection as he moved away though came back almost as quickly. Feeling the blindfold being released from her face she blinked a few times before she realized what she was seeing. In front of her was an ice skating rink with a white picket fence around it as well as several lit up Christmas trees. She heard the words that he uttered but she simply stared for a few minutes before looking up at him in silent wonder. A small tear fell down her cheek though she didn't notice it. "Thank you." She whispered before leaning in and pressing a warm kiss to his cheek.
Taking her skates from him she walked over to the bench and undid her boots before lacing up her skates. She looked at the dark vampire in question. “Do you know how to skate or am I going to have to finally be able to teach you something Mr. O’Connor?” She asked, having finally learned his last name from Kathy a few days before.

Of course she would call him cryptic. Although tonight he truly couldn't blame her. He was being mysterious for a reason though. Tonight he wanted it all to be a surprise and he wasn't going to lie any of it on the table just yet. It would ruin it in his opinion and for that he simply gave her 'the look' that he so often did when she was being ridiculous and kept his eyes on the road. Eventually she'd get the hint that he wasn't giving up any information. Hopefully sooner rather than later too because he was going to have some fun with this.
However he should have known that she wouldn't let him get off that easy. She was Buffy Summers after all and nothing with that woman was ever easy. Easy simply wasn't in her vocabulary. Shaking his head that they weren't going to be killing anything he simply kept his eyes forward still. Sooner or later she would get the hint...or at least he could hope so. Eventually she was going to get really irritated if she didn't answer him. If so, it'd probably end up violence and that wasn't how he wanted this night to go. He still remembered the day she cracked his head open on the headstone and he didn't really feel like having a repeat of that at the moment. As she finally conceded to not talking he couldn't help but allow a small smirk to crawl onto his features. In one of the words of Katheryn...Buffy was cute. Though he'd never use the word aloud.
Hand on her lower back as he walked her, his smirk grew. "I'll try not to" he said simply, still leading the way. They weren't actually near any other traffic than what was in the parking lot which was nearly nonexistent. The center was pretty dead during the week and it was kind of late for people to be there anyways. Plus the ice rink had been kept open specifically for them, thanks to Angel, so they at least didn't have to worry about that.
Watching the tear fall down her cheek caused him to realize that everything he'd done had been absolutely worth it. Ignoring her pouty lips in the car and her taunts, all worth it. Stepping forward she kissed his cheek, and he closed his eyes for a moment. As she started to move away he stopped her, grabbing her by the arm gently. Pulling her into him he glided his thumb across her cheek to wipe away the tear. After staring into her eyes for a moment he leaned forward and pressed a kiss to her lips. The cheek simply hadn't been enough for him tonight, not when he'd seen the tear fall down her cheek. After savoring the taste of her lips for a moment he opened his eyes and released her. They both moved over to the nearby bench and began to put their skates on.
Standing up with his skates on, he slowly walked over to the rink and then slid in. Skating to the middle of the rink he spun to a stop and turned back to her, a smirk lighting up his normally darkened features. "I'm an excellent skater. Or have you forgotten, Ms. Summers?" He asked, spreading one of his arms out to gesture for her to join him on the rink. The way it was lit up...it was perfect, and exactly what he'd imagined for her. Of course he didn't particularly care for all of the lights and Christmas trees but he knew she'd love it. The lights reflected against the glass and seemed to cast a glow around the two of them. The night was beginning to seem perfect and he hoped that nothing interrupted that moment for her. It was all for her. It always had been, always would be.

- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -She was surprised as she tried to move away that he stopped her, something that he didn't rarely do since they usually tried to keep their distance. She was pulled to him though it was clear he was using none of his true strength and she smiled up at him angelically when he wiped her tear away. She hadn't even realized that it had fallen until he moved it away from her cheek but she was still grateful. She watched as his eyes flickered down to her face and she continued to look at him just as intently, wondering what his next move would be.
She watched as his head bent further down until he was hovering just above hers. As she felt his lips press against hers she felt her eyes close of their own volition. The kiss didn't last long, but it didn't need to. This wasn't a kiss full of passion; it was one of tenderness and love that fit the scene perfectly. She felt him pull away and while sometimes this would bother her, it didn’t tonight. She simply smiled up at him before making her way to the bench. She couldn’t believe that he had done this for her; it was something that no matter what she would always remember.
As she laced up her skates she couldn’t help but notice how comfortable they still were. Like an old pair of jeans that hadn’t been worn in years yet as soon as you put them on you remember why they were your favorite. She hadn’t been skating since the last time she had attempted to skate with him, the memories of which weren’t exactly fond. Well, no, that wasn’t true. The memories weren’t all that bad actually, even though they had been attacked by the Order of Taraka. However that was the first night that she had kissed him, his true vampire face, and she had truly never noticed until he had said something. It was a night, just like she knew tonight was, that she would never forget.
Watching as he stood up, completely sure of himself, she was impressed as he made his way out onto the middle of the rink before skating and turning to meet her eyes. His smile was one that she rarely saw on him, a smirk that clearly showed he was enjoying himself. She met his smirk with a challenging look, standing herself and walking towards the rink, hopping up onto it but staying away from where he stood. "Actually Mr. Mysterious I have never seen you skate. So maybe I should be the judge of that." She told him, purposely goading him.
She noted how the lights sparkled against the ice and for the night she promised to let herself go. Angel had done all of this for her and she refused to let thoughts of anything get in her way. No doubt there would be something or someone who hurt them in the near future so she was going to let everything go for tonight and concentrate on having a good time with the man that she loved.

In a standstill Angel watched as she joined him on the ice. Just as graceful as she had been the first time he'd seen her skate. Well the first and only time, they'd actually been the same time. Nonetheless she looked beautiful out on the rink. The light seemed to reflect off her hazel eyes causing them to have a golden kind of glow. It brought out little sparkles of green in them that he could see despite their distance. Sooner or later he'd take Katheryn ice skating as well. Maybe they could make a day out of it, all three of them together. However tonight was for her and her only just as the night at the Big Surf had been for Katheryn. It was tuned just for Buffy...and she seemed to be enjoying it. It made all of it worth it and it was nice to have a night without weapons and apocalypse's for once.
Quirking an eyebrow to her, he slowly began to skate towards her. The look on his face was anything but mysterious. If anything, it seemed like his smirk was slightly menacing as he glided towards her. "Judge away" he said simply, the smirk on his face growing as he moved towards her. However when he got over to her he stopped just behind her and was surprised when she didn't turn around. Instead he slipped his hand into hers and slowly began to lead her into the middle of the rink. As they both skated with each other, they seemed perfectly in rhythm. It was a perfect moment and hopefully they could continue it all night.
Finally releasing her hand from his, he allowed her to skate on her own as he began to glide in the opposite direction. He was actually heading towards the benches again, but curved before he hit the wall and gracefully avoided it. "Do you remember when I told you I liked you?" He called out across the ice, completely randomly. He wasn't quite sure why that'd just popped into his head but it had. It'd been the night when they'd fought the three and she'd taken him home to bandage him up, and he'd ended up spending the night. He'd told her while she'd been bandaging him that he liked her and the glow in her eyes had been something he'd never forgotten. Perhaps that was why he'd thought of it; because her eyes were once glowing like that again. It made his cold dead heart feel warm again...And even through everything they'd dealt with, he knew they were still destined to be together. And he couldn't wait anymore.
"I have something I need to ask you." With this he stopped skating and slid to a stop, patiently waiting for her response. If his heart could have beat it would have beat right out of his chest by now. He was anxious, more anxious than he'd been in a very long time and he hoped she wouldn't notice. He didn't want her to worry...despite how much he was currently worrying at the moment.

- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -She watched in amazement as he glided gracefully towards her on the ice. The smirk on his face would have scared anyone else as it was almost menacing but to her it was just another façade of the man she loved. She fought every instinct that told her to turn around when he skated behind her but she did fight it, knowing that there was a reason that he had gone behind her. She felt his hand slip into hers, something that he had avoided doing as of late yet tonight it seemed as if he wanted them to stay connected. She followed him towards the center of the rink, matching every one of his strokes with hers.
She waited until he freed her hand before moving towards the other side of the rink, wanting to get a feel for her skates before doing any tricks that she had learned long ago. She remembered how she could have competed in the Olympics had she gone on further in her skating yet with her parents fighting at all times it just hadn’t been worth it to be another thorn in their side with practices and such. She had forgotten over the years how much she missed it, until he had reminded her once again.
She heard his question and turned around in a spin before stopping and tilting an eyebrow up before nodding. “Yeah, I remember that vividly.” She told him wryly, not sure why they were going down memory lane but not minding it at all. "I believe that I called you out on following me and you rebuffed me. You asked me why you would follow me and I told you..." She stated before stating her old lines, word for word. "You tell me. You're the mystery guy that appears out of nowhere. I'm not saying I'm not happy about it tonight, but... if you are hanging around I'd like to know why." She finished before laughing at herself for her ridiculous memory of all things that revolved around the two of them. "Then you told me that maybe you liked me." She stated with a laugh before sobering up. "Did you really only like me back then? Because on my eighteenth birthday you told me that you had fallen in love with me before you met me. So which was it?" She asked, her eyes playful though there was a vulnerability inside them that she knew he could see.
She quickly skated out and did a small jump, just a small one yet she couldn't help but relish in the way that it made her feel. She started to do another spin yet Angel's voice stopped her. She turned around and watched as he stopped before his words actually registered. Skating over to him she looked up into his brown eyes with concern. "You can ask me anything, you know that." She told him honestly, hoping that he was alright though by the look on his face he seemed...scared of something.

Even though that night had been so long ago...Eight years, give or take, it seemed like it'd happened just yesterday when they talked about it. Reminiscing wasn't something he tended to do very often at all. He usually avoided it as there weren't many things in his past that he particularly enjoyed remembering. However this was not one of those things, he cherished his memories with her. Most of them anyways. A hearty chuckle came from the vampire and it was a true testament to his mood tonight as it rarely ever happened. Only select few had ever heard it, and she was the one whom had heard it the most. Even then...it'd only been a handful of times. "I remember. I used to lurk. Still do - it's what I do" he told her with a sweet smile. An actual smile and again, it was just another testament to his mood.
At her statement he continued to skate, but kept his eyes on her the entire time. As he moved his eyes stayed stationary staring into hers. It was just another way that they connected. Their eyes always seemed to follow each other..every precise movement no matter how small. "I have loved you since the first day I seen you, even though you hadn't a clue who I was. I saw you outside Hemery High...I'd never loved anything more. Still haven't." As he said this his tone was more serious, the playfulness gone. Not because he wasn't in the mood..but because he wanted her to know just how serious he was about it. He'd never loved anything or anyone more than he loved the woman on the rink with him. She needed to know it, despite everything they'd been through.
Standing still as she made her way over to him, he looked up to her with his deep chocolatey eyes. "I know..." he whispered, reaching up to brush her bangs out of her eyes and push them behind her ear. As he pulled back his hand he let it gently drift across the side of her cheek and down her chin, cherishing every second that they touched. Tonight had needed to happen for a very long time and it was finally here. He'd been in Richmond for months now...and still hadn't had the chance to make things right between them. But it was finally time, and though he was nervous, he felt like it was a new beginning for the both of them.
As his hand fell away from her cheek, he lowered it and reached into the breast pocket of his trench coat. Slowly removing a small velvet box he revealed the ring he'd given to her on her seventeenth birthday. The very same one...The same one he'd fallen onto when he'd returned to life. "I've had this entire time...It was the first thing I saw when I came back." Looking up into her eyes, he reached out with his free hand and lifted hers into his. Holding it, he held the ring before her finger as if waiting for permission to slide it on. If she allowed him to, she would finally be his. Again. And he wouldn't let her go this time. "Will you wear it?" Brown soulful eyes glowed into hers, unusually overflowing with emotions. All the love he held for her...It was nearly too much and he thought he might explode. The ring was facing inwards signalling that she'd belong to him once again.

- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -She smiled at his chuckle, one that she didn't hear often enough. She had always said that he should laugh more. When he laughed, a true laugh, it made his entire handsome face light up. It chuckle was one that not many people got to hear but it was deep and velvety, one that when she heard it she felt as if things were for once right in the world, even when they weren't. It was a sound that could bring her inner peace in a world that really no peace tended to exist, at least not often.
"You? Lurk? Nah." She told him with a laugh, almost drunk on the playful mood of the night. She wasn't sure what had caused this turn around yet something had and she couldn't find it in herself to even begin to care as long as she got to continue to joke and play with him like this for a little longer. She was a realist, she knew that things could never be hugs and puppies, at least not all the time, for them...yet tonight was something that they had both needed for a long time. A chance to just be them, something that neither of them had gotten to experience in what seemed like ages.
Realizing what he said she put her hands on her hips in mock anger. “What do you mean you still lurk? Why are you lurking around now? It’s not as if you have to hide that you’re a vampire like you did back then.” She told him with a laugh. “We all know that I’m aware that you’re a vampire. So why lurk? You know you can always just walk into my room and tell me you’re coming on patrol with me.” She told him with a tilting laugh.
Realizing that the playfulness was gone she listened intently to his words. "I may not have realized it but even then I felt something. This pull towards something or someone as the case was unseen." She told him truthfully. "I was too self absorbed back then to even think about what it was but looking back on it I know it was you." She continued on, needing him to hear her. "I know that when we were in Los Angeles and we had that fight I told you that I found someone else to love, but I lied. I can't say that in 240...however many years that I've loved exactly only one person because I haven't been alive for that long but I can say that I have never loved anyone but you." She told him, her eyes boring into his to let him know that she was impossibly serious.
She watched his hand as it moved her bangs out of her eyes. This was something that he had always done and it comforted her. She nuzzled her face into the palm of his hand as it made its way down her cheek. She could feel the electricity between the two of them as she always had yet it felt more tonight, though whether it was the cold or the ambiance she didn't know.
She watched him in puzzled silence as his hand reached into his pocket and pulled out a velvet box. It looked similar to the one he had given her with her necklace inside yet it was too small to be one. She watched as he opened it and when she saw what was enclosed her heart quite literally stopped. Hearing his words her eyes welled with tears as she took in the sight of a ring that while she had only had it for a few months had meant everything to her and to this day she had never worn a ring on that finger because she felt as if nothing was good enough besides this specific ring. Hearing his words she finally drew her eyes away from the ring and up into his, tears once again welling in her eyes. "I've belonged to you since before I knew what the words truly meant." She whispered to him softly. "It's as beautiful today as it was then." She told him, giving him the confirmation that he needed that yes, she would wear his ring again.

Oh, she didn't even know the full capacity of his ability to lurk. He wasn't going to come right out and tell her though. It'd probably result in either him getting smacked upside the head (as she so often enjoyed doing) or in the more severe form of having his skull cracked open. Neither of those seemed too appealing to him at the moment. "Trust me, I lurk." Despite the fact that everyone knew he was a vampire, he still felt the need not to be seen. It made things easier. And with his daylight ring now? It made it all too easy. Although she'd kill him if she knew, he now was able to stalk her during the day as well. Most of the time he followed her to and from work. Earlier today he'd followed her to work, but had been too busy to follow her home. Even though she could take care of herself and he knew this he still felt it was his duty to watch over her, to protect her. He'd never tell though. He'd take it to his grave. Or his urn, depending on how one looked at it.
All of the sudden the playfulness went away. It seemed to disappear and what came instead was...serious, to the say the least. He was fine with that. No matter if she was being serious or playful he loved her all the same. Plus it was honestly a lot easier for him to be serious anyways. Playfulness usually took some concentration on his end because he wasn't used to it. Tilting his head to the side he looked down to her. And he literally was looking down, considering the fact that he literally towered over her. "Well I can say that in two hundred and forty-seven years that I've loved exactly one person. Because I have." As he said this he looked into her eyes deeply, deeper than he had the entire night. From his heart, no matter how dead and cold, it was true and she needed to know that.
Taking it a step further he pressed his hand to her cheek once again, his free hand. Slowly bringing it all the way down her jaw and then landing on the nape of her neck, he let it rest there for a moment. The touch was electrifying and he ended up having to concentrate in order not to just grab her and kiss her. "It's always been you Buffy. Since the day I first saw you...And it'll always be you." With this he did end up removing his hand from her skin finally. It seemed that if he didn't he was going to end up ruining the moment by pouncing on her and it was not the time for that.
Angel heard her heart slow down, and her breathing as well. At first he wasn't sure if it was a good sign or not...But eventually she spoke. When she did it felt like finally everything was coming back into place. Ever since the day he'd come back to life this was something he'd been wanting to. The night was finally here and it was going according to plan thus far. As long as they didn't get interrupted by any demonic assassins or anything they'd be alright. With a small smile from him, he slipped the ring onto her finger. Looking down at her and seeing the tears in his eyes he couldn't hold back any further. He reached with both hands and cupped his hands around her face, tilting it to meet his. Their lips touched and he kissed her, but he didn't stop...He couldn't stop. Everything was coming together and he actually felt happy. They needed to be careful because honestly...this was the happiest he'd been in a long time. Still, he kissed her nonetheless. She was finally his again.

- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -The words that he spoke sent shivers down her spine as she leaned into his hand. She could easily remember the conversation they had a few years ago about Faith and her wanting to know how he felt about kissing her. There's no comparison. In two hundred and forty three years I've loved exactly one person. So him speaking the same words only adding a few more years meant more to her now than they did back then...for several reasons. She knew that he had been with a couple of women in Los Angeles and while the thought made her furious she couldn’t blame him…but hearing that he still loved her and she was the only one that he had loved, worked wonders to soothe a small tear in her heart that had formed once she had learned about his other women.
A tear slid down her cheek as she listened to his velvet voice telling her things that she had only dreamed of hearing from him again. Most women only felt this way when they were being proposed to and while she knew that she had more than one dream about Angel doing just that, she couldn't imagine anything meaning as much to her as tonight had. "You've always been the only one that I wanted. Do you remember?" She asked before sniffing a bit, trying the quell the tears that she wanted to shed while clearing her throat in order to make sure that her voice didn't crack again.
“Do you remember when you came to Sunnydale last year and I told you to leave? I told you it was because I couldn’t risk you and I needed you to run the second front.” She told him in the form of a question and waited until he answered in the affirmative before she continued. “I lied. I wanted you to leave because I couldn’t stand to watch something happen to you. I know you and I know just as I did that if someone tried to hurt me you’d try and protect me…and I couldn’t allow that to happen. I wanted more than anything to curl up in your arms and to let you take the bad things away, even if only for a few minutes, but I couldn’t let my guard down…and that’s the reason that I told you to leave. It killed me to do it but I would do it again if it meant protecting you.” She whispered before continuing on, needing to get these things out before she lost the strength to do so.
"Then you asked me if I thought that I knew who I wanted to be with when I was cookies." She told him, smiling since she could still remember his irritation by her analogy. "I told you that I wasn't thinking that far ahead. I lied then to. I mean I know that I called you back and told you that I did sometimes think about it but even that was a lie. Sometimes thinking about the future, even a very slim possibility future with you was all that kept me going.” She told him with a soft whisper, hoping that he could hear and see the sincerity that rang out in every word.
She watched as he slipped the cool metal ring back in it's rightful place. "It's still as beautiful as the last time I saw it." She told him before his lips claimed hers. It didn't take much for her to press her lips back against his, her arms weaving around his neck as she pulled herself closer, almost to the point of hanging onto him just so she could get closer. She knew that they had to be careful, really careful, until they could find a way to bind his soul but at this moment she felt as if she could burst from happiness and love.

Another tear slid down her cheek. Instead of trying to wipe it away as he had earlier he let it lie there against her milky skin. It wasn't a tear of sadness or else he would have wiped it away and tried to make it disappear, hoping to shield her from the pain. No it was a tear of happiness and because of that fact alone...he allowed it to lie on her cheek. She deserved this moment of happiness no matter what form she chose to enjoy it in. It was overwhelming to him as well, he just didn't show it outwardly. Instead he was bursting from the seams...It was frightening to feel like everything was coming together but also freeing as well. No matter how she would have reacted he would have been glad to have done this. He'd been needing to get it out of his system for far too long now. Now that it was finally done and it'd worked out in his favor, he couldn't possibly be any happier.
Nodding his head, he allowed her to reminisce. However he remembered very clearly what she was referring to. Everything they'd been through...their love hadn't once faltered. Hell even recently with the Angelus snafu they'd still be in love. Absolutely furious with each other and hurt, but still in love. It was the reason it'd hurt so much...because of their love for one another. Despite their other partners throughout the years, they'd always only ever wanted each other. For years they'd tried to pretend that it couldn't work...that it couldn't ever be. However they were past that now...and they were determined to make it work. They would make it work because they had to. They couldn't be apart for any longer.
"I sort of figured that." Back in Sunnydale he'd had the sneaking suspicion that she just hadn't wanted him to get hurt, but he hadn't said anything about it. Either way he wouldn't have been able to stay. She wouldn't have allowed it. "I just know better than to try and argue with you" he added with a small smirk. There was no arguing with Buffy Summers over anything. Even if she couldn't win the argument she'd just kick your ass and tell you to shut up. It was pointless, no one ever won in that situation. Hand still on her face, he rubbed his thumb against her cheek again. It was simply habit. They craved each other. "It was hard to leave you. Both that night...and after your Graduation. Going to Los Angeles was the hardest thing I've ever had to do."
Even back then, he'd known that he was being selfish by leaving. However he'd also thought it was being selfless at the very same time. He'd been conflicted and he'd run because of it. Perhaps they'd needed that time apart though in the long run. Maybe if he had stayed, things wouldn't have turned out the way they had. Maybe they wouldn't have been together tonight. It was a thought he didn't even want to finish. It was in the past, and he was simply more determined to make the right decision the next time.
"I know you would. So would I." No matter how angry it'd make her, Angel would always make the choice to keep her safe. No matter if it meant someone else would get hurt...As bad as it sounded, she was the most important person to him, other than his sister. If that meant he had to sacrifice himself...He would, he had. "Good. I don't like to share my Buffy cookies." With a light chuckle, he then looked back down to her seriously. It'd been cheesy but he didn't care. For the first time in a very long time he was actually in a genuinely good mood.
As her hands weaved around his neck he removed his from her face and allowed them to fluidly slip down to her waist. Pulling her against him they kissed, first sweetly, and soon traveling back into passionate territory. It wasn't long before he pulled away and then simply looked down to the ring on her finger. It was facing the correct way, signaling that she was once again his. He smiled and then pressed a kiss to the ring on her finger. "I love you" he said in a breathy, velvety tone before kissing her on the lips again. He simply couldn't help himself tonight. As they kissed he couldn't help but wonder if it was all a dream. It seemed too good not to be, but then again, he figured they deserved it. Pulling her in by the waist again he planted kisses along her jawline, before traveling back to her lips. It seemed he couldn't be away from them for too long.

- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -She wasn’t surprised that Angel knew why she wanted him out of Sunnydale last year when the final Sunnydale battle had come to head. She knew that he could see through her, one of the reasons that he saw right through her as she tried and failed to lie about Spike. She had never truly been ashamed of her relationship with Spike because even though that yes, he was a soulless demon at the time, she knew that he had almost been different. Spike had always been one who found humans and the world itself amusing, unlike most vampires who saw them for food and food only. She also knew that Spike had respected her for a long time, maybe longer than she had ever realized since she was truly the only slayer he had actually ever tried to actively kill and yet was not able to do so.
However that night when Angel showed up, she had been ashamed…and yet she was angry that she felt that way. She knew that she had every right to be with whomever she wanted and yet she felt as if she had betrayed Angel. She really never felt that way with Riley because that was what Angel had left her for, a normal life. With Spike however, it was different. Spike was technically Angel’s grandchilde meaning that they were family and that left her feeling as if she had betrayed what she and Angel had. She often wondered if Angel would have reacted like he did to anyone else or if he did so because it was Spike. She doubted she would ever have the courage to ask him but it was something that she often thought about.
Hearing his sly comment she laughed, wiping her own tear away as it stung her cheek when the wind blew. “What can I say, I’m as stubborn as they come. I think it comes from years of arguing with Giles, arguing with my mom, arguing with you, and trying to pretend that I’m normal when I knew I wasn’t.” She told him with a laugh, nothing bitter in it though she knew that at one time there would have been. She no longer truly longed to be normal because if she was normal then she would have never met Angel, nor would she have ever moved to Sunnydale meaning she would have never known the greatest friends she could possibly imagine. Everything happened for a reason and for that reason alone she couldn’t resent her calling.
His hand rested on her cheek and while his skin was usually cool so was hers in the cold wind meaning they were pretty much the same temperature so she didn’t flinch from his touch, not that she ever had before. Leaning her face into his large palm she felt her eyes drift shut as she listened to his velvet laced voice. Her eyes however didn’t stay shut for long as she heard exactly what he said. “I know. I could see it in your eyes after Graduation. The way you looked at me. I knew that if I would have walked over there and begged you not to leave you wouldn’t have. That’s why I didn’t. I knew that you thought that leaving was for the best and I didn’t want to force you to stay.” She whispered before admitting something that she had never told anyone else. “I really did believe that you would leave for a few months and then realize it was a bad idea and come back. I didn’t think that when you left you would stay gone. It didn’t truly sink into my head that you weren’t coming back until about two weeks after I started college.”
Taking a deep breath she knew she had to get this out. Not that it mattered anymore but for some reason she felt like she needed him to know this. “I was on a regular patrol. Nothing fancy about it, I think I had staked one vampire and I was just walking. All of a sudden I found myself outside the mansion. I knew you weren’t there, I have always been able to feel when you’re near. Yet I went inside and I saw the dust that covered the furniture and the floor. That’s when it hit me. That you weren’t coming back.” She told him, sniffling slightly, not wanting to cry any longer. “I let myself harden that day. It may not have been visible to the naked eye but a few people saw it, I know Giles was one of them…and for some reason so was Spike. I think it must be a vampire thing because I had some other vampire tell me my heart wasn’t in it anymore. Granted that was right before I staked him so maybe he was just trying to distract me. I don’t know.”
She was glad that Angel diffused the tense situation with a comment about Buffy cookies. Laughing a light laugh, one that made her sound and look ten years younger she leaned into his chest, nuzzling her face into it as if that spot was specifically made for her. “You will never have to share your Buffy cookies. Honestly there was never anyone to share them with. They’ve always been for you…We both just needed to be done in order for them to be ready for you to have again. That way you didn’t get burned.” She told him, using her analogy and yet for some reason she knew that he was aware that she was talking about both of them.
Feeling him kiss her ring she looked up at him before lifting his hand, placing a kiss against his just as she had the first time she had seen it. “Mine.” She whispered against his ring before looking into his eyes. “I have always and will always love you.” She told him, emphasizing the word always and not even realizing she was doing so. She didn’t noticed how she seemed to cling to him even harder when she talked about always but if she had been she would notice that most likely, Angel noticed as well.

There was no one else like the woman standing before him in the world. No one else could laugh like her. No one else could fight like she could. No one else had the warm and compassionate heart she held. No one could make him feel like she did...No one could love him like she did, like he loved her. Ever since he'd first seen her he'd known this. Yet when he'd left he had been with other people. Not because he felt like it'd help him get over her. No, because he knew even then that he'd never get over her. More or less because he'd been trying to keep himself distracted. Angel Investigations was sprouted to give him something to hold on to in Los Angeles. There were so many times where he'd almost up and left and returned home to her, and had been stopped by a case. It'd worked out well and eventually the urge to go back to Sunnydale had disappeared.
Although he'd loved her, he'd secretly went back several times and seen her through the shadows. If anything she seemed happier without him. When it was fresh she'd been torn up about it...But then she'd started college, she'd met new people, and had seemed to have moved on. Watching her move on from the shadows was one of the hardest things he'd ever been forced to watch. But it'd helped him to stay away and to know that he'd done the right thing. Even now sometimes he still wondered what would have or wouldn't have happened if he'd stayed in Sunnydale. While he wouldn't ever really get into it with Buffy he still truly believed he'd done the right thing. Despite missing her she'd grown up a lot and become more independent while he'd been gone, and that was exactly what he'd hoped for. He hadn't hoped for her to share her heart with others...But that was one of the drawbacks of him having left and he'd been forced to live with it.
Sometimes you have to let the one you love go, and that's exactly what he'd done.
Bringing himself back out of his own thoughts, he simply smiled down to her. He didn't smile very often but when he did it lit up his entire face. He was handsome enough, but smiling just made it that much better. With a shake of his head he chuckled lightly. "You could never be normal, Buffy." Looking down at the ring on her hand and then back up to her, he tilted his head to the side and the smile disappeared. His brown eyes seemed lighter but not in a predatory way, in a warm way. "And I'd never want you to be. I love who you are, just the way you are. Always have." Tonight he was speaking more than usual as well, but he knew if he didn't, she'd kick his ass. Plus he was in a good mood and they were alone which meant he could be himself. A tiny portion of his personality as a human was starting to shine through, the more light hearted side of him that he wasn't sure she'd ever seen.
At her confession he looked down to her...Deciding if he wanted to confess something as well. Before he had the chance to she thankfully kicked in with a story to fill the silence between them. He was grateful for it too as he wasn't sure if he wanted to confess what he'd been hiding and go there at the moment. Maybe after he'd thought about it more, maybe after she finished her story. Even then, he wasn't sure if he could open up that can of worms. While it wasn't exactly a big deal anymore he had the feeling she'd be pissed about it. Or that she'd simply be hurt, but nonetheless, he'd end up feeling worse about it then leaving it hanging over his head.
Reaching out, he pulled her in closer and cradled her against his large body. She was the small to his big. Her head laid against his neck as he wrapped his arms around her. "I'm sorry you had to go through that because of me. I never wanted to hurt you...I only wanted what was best for you. I had to be strong - for both of us." Leaning down to press a light kiss to her hair he leaned back and wiped the flowing tears away from her cheeks again. He knew it had to make her even colder than she currently was. Lying against him probably wasn't helping very much with that particular problem either. She felt freezing.
Letting her go he lifted her chin up with his hand as he so often did to look into her eyes. His own orbs drifted from her eyes to her lips and then back up to her eyes, a small twitch of his jaw alerting them both to the fact that he was nervous about what he had to say. After a quick sigh, he shook his head. "I planned on coming back, I did...But I saw that you'd moved on. You'd met new people...you'd shared your heart with others, there wasn't a place for me either. I accepted it, I stayed away." Well, that can of worms was open. She was going to be extremely pissed or extremely hurt or both. It was the truth though, he'd never wanted to be gone forever. It hadn't originally been the plan and he hated that he'd been gone for that long. However there simply hadn't been a place for him anymore....She didn't need him anymore, and that'd killed him, but he'd accepted it and let go.
She'd never left his heart though. It'd always belonged to her, since the first day he'd seen her.
Allowing her to nuzzle into his chest again he chuckled, a deep hearty laugh that was reserved only for her. "Well, I hope they're done baking. I'm hungry." He'd tried to use an analogy as well...but his had ended up sounding kind of creepy. Pulling back to look at her with crinkled eyebrows he accidentally chuckled, realizing how stupid and weird he'd just sounded. He'd tried, and he deserved an 'A' for effort at the least.
Even though they both knew they'd always loved each other, hearing it made it seem all that much more real. As she kissed the ring he leaned down and pressed yet another kiss to her lips. Tonight he couldn't seem to keep his lips off hers, though he doubted that she minded. It still made him nervous because of their past slip ups but they weren't driven by passion tonight. Not by passion or by lust, but instead by love and devotion. Tonight he had confessed his devotion to her and that wasn't ever going to go away. Luckily, she'd confessed hers as well. He was happier in this moment than he'd ever been, even while they were making love...He felt just as whole in this moment, and just hoped they didn't suffer the consequences because of it.
