He grinned at the two girls smiling at him, both of whom were pretty but it wasn’t like he could stop to talk to them with Caroline standing right next to him. He really doubted that any of the three of them would find that amusing at all. Nor was he the type to do so. Though he would admit, there was a small part of him that longed to do just that. However he had been raised better than that (by his friend’s parents since his mother nor father had ever been the model parents) and he had been raised to never disrespect a woman.

He wasn’t surprised when Caroline told the two girls to walk away, and he had a sneaking suspicion that she had used more than just her words to achieve what she wanted. He turned his eyes to her and sent her a glare, not at all amused. “Okay, for one thing, stop. For another thing, you need to hear me Care.” He told her sternly. “If some girl comes up to me and asks for my number, you have no say in it. If you catch me next week making out with some girl in the hallway, the most you can do is tell me to get a fire extinguisher. You and I are not together and that’s not my fault. I know we broke up because of me but I told you how I felt. You are with someone else so you need to give me the same courtesy to do the same.” He stated before taking a deep breath, trying to remain calm while he tried to figure out how to put this gently.

“Caroline, you know how I feel. I’ve made it pretty damn obvious. However you choose someone else over me and that’s fine. That’s your prerogative. But do not let that make you think that just because I still love you that I am going to obsess over you for all eternity, because I’m not. I won’t wait around forever Care…especially since you’ve given me no reason to. So little comments such as ‘get lost’ to two girls, or god knows what else you just used to make them go away, it needs to stop. I won’t tolerate it.” He told her before turning around…though not getting far before his coach seemed to materialize in front of him.

“Since you two didn’t hear us calling everyone to switch pairs, looks like you’re together for another hour. Have fun.” Was all he said before walking away, leaving Matt highly annoyed. “Great, just fucking perfect.”

The girls walked away and Caroline simply looked back to Matt, putting on her innocent face. Her eyelashes batted up to the boy as she looked at him, but he was clearly not buying a second of it. Actually he looked pretty pissed at her and she couldn’t really blame him. At first she simply stared at him, dumbfounded at the sternness he was exerting. Although she shouldn’t really have been surprised the more she thought about it. In fact they’d pretty much had this conversation once before already, though it seemed so long ago now that they’d had it. However at the comment about the fire extinguisher she couldn’t help but try to hide the growing smile that tugged at her cheeks. The urge to laugh was overwhelming and she literally covered her mouth for a moment to stop it. Once it’d subsided she recovered and sobered up, hoping she hadn’t pissed him off even further.

And the second they started talking about their past relationship, she felt a lump grow in her throat. ”Matt ---“ she started, but her interrupted her as he started going off once again. He still loves me?... Despite what he was saying, he’d never actually told her this. No, he’d never once used the L word with her recently. They’d had sex and said how they’d missed each other and whatnot but he’d never gone as far as to say that he still loved her. She had kind of inferred this fact but the words had actually never left his lips. And now that they did, she couldn’t help but feel a flutter in her heart as she heard them. Matt still loves me… However she was with Dean now, and it was too late. Or is it? her devilish side called out, though she tried to ignore it the best that she could.

Caroline Forbes was shell shocked. She didn’t move, she didn’t speak. Her jaw was nearly on the ground. There were so many things that she wanted to say, and yet she couldn’t force herself to speak. She wanted to reach out and tell him that she loved him too, but she couldn’t. She’d chosen Dean…and now she had to live with that choice. Dean made her happy, and he was a good guy. However her and Matt had that connection…She was confused. As he turned to walk away she simply stood there and watched, her eyes wide in the horror of what had just happened. She started to feel extremely anxious, not knowing what she should do. She wanted to go after him but wasn’t sure if she should. She wanted him to hold her..but knew he wouldn’t, knew she shouldn’t. She was thankful to be getting another partner. However as she soon found out…she wasn’t indeed getting another partner. Hearing Matt’s cursing a few feet away, she simply looked down to her feet, her thumbs twiddling with her bathing suit. That’d just ruined her day. Straight up.

He groaned when he realized that he had most likely hurt Caroline’s feelings. He hated having a quick temper because he got over things even quicker (other than a few specific things) and that always made him feel bad since he had such a quick temper. He headed towards the coach and quirked his eyebrow when he noticed two others clearly hadn’t gotten the message to switch pairs either. “We’ll switch between the four of us.” He stated, giving no one a chance to rebut his statement. Walking over to Karen he grinned and motioned with his hand. “Lead the way.” He stated and followed her as she went into the wave pool.

At least for the next hour or two there would be no drama…hopefully.

The rest of the day went by fairly fast. He got along with most everyone so luckily he didn’t have any unfortunate mishaps. He did get the number of a beautiful woman named Sophia and surprisingly she asked him out, so he was looking forward to that. However he would definitely be keeping that on the down low so to speak. He didn’t like that he couldn’t tell his friends things without causing drama but it was just much easier this way.

Hearing the coach call their names they all walked back in and he waited to hear what was going on now. Okay, everyone, this is the end of today’s bonding exercises. If you want to leave your free to go, if not, we’re not responsible for you anymore so don’t get yourself killed. Everyone laughed at the two coaches and started going their separate ways. Matt noted Caroline off in the distance and took a deep breath. “Can I walk you to your car?” He asked, waiting until she nodded before following her slowly until they reached the parking lot before speeding up. “Listen Care. I’m sorry for what I said. I shouldn’t have snapped on you. Just with everything going on I’m a little stressed. Forgive me?” He asked, hoping that she said yes.

Luckily for her she nodded but he noted that before he could say anything else they were at her car. “Alright be careful.” He told her, waiting until she got into her car before closing the door behind her and heading to his truck, giving her a small wave before heading home.

He had gotten a tiny bit sun burnt and knew he needed to get some aloe on it before he ended up miserable. Just like all men, he was a big baby when he was sick.
