- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -He smirked at Caroline’s comment about his Halloween costumes and scaring the crap out of the girls. “Hey, what else am I supposed to do? It’s either going around scaring you two, which by the way, has been way too easy, or go around getting drunk with the guys on the football team. And no offense to the team but you two being scared is much more entertaining than watching them crash and burn…though I’ll admit some of the pickup lines they have tried to use while drunk have been pretty damn funny.” He stated with a laugh, smirking at the memory of more than one of said pickup lines.
“Speaking of which, I have a proposition for you Caroline if you are going to the Halloween party. I have no idea if you’re going with anyone or not but if not I thought it would be fun for all of us to go in a group. We could pick a group of people and dress up as them, so our costumes would all slightly match.” He stated, throwing Elena a questioning look as well in order to let her know that she was included. “If you two have dates that’s fine I was just curious.” He stated, hoping that at least Caroline was free since he didn’t really want to see her with her new boyfriend, not that he would ever admit that.
Shrugging at the comment about him being the only one who looked old enough to get alcohol he nodded, though ignored the comment about Caroline compelling someone to sell it to her. It wasn’t that her being a vampire bothered him as much anymore because it really didn’t, however he just didn’t like the thought of anyone being compelled against their will. He knew what it felt like (after he had been brought up to speed, including when Katherine compelled him to pick a fight with Tyler, which led to Sarah’s death) and it wasn’t something that he felt should be taken lightly.
He smiled at watching his girl…ex girlfriend and well…his ex girlfriend talking to one another. It was clear that Caroline felt the same way that he did and wanted Elena to open up to them though it looked as if she was having more luck than he was. He knew why that was and was grateful for it. While he and Elena had always been friends, he and Stefan hadn’t really ever bonded as up until he and Caroline got together he had still been a bit bitter towards Stefan for ‘stealing Elena away from him’ (he knew now that this wasn’t the case but he was angry and embarrassed at the time). However Caroline had become good friends with Stefan once she had been turned so he knew that it meant more for Caroline to talk to her than it did for him.
Hearing Elena’s words he had about a million questions rolling around his mind however the first thing that slipped out of his mouth was “I guess that means you aren’t going to the group Halloween party with the group huh?” He asked before slapping his head. Yeah, he really needed to think before he spoke sometimes.
Luckily (for him at least) Elena got a text messaged a bolted out of tomb opening faster than he could blink. Instead of following her he simply turned his head and met Caroline’s eyes. “So I guess it’s just the two of us now.” He stated simply.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - Without answering Matt and Caroline's question, Elena hurriedly exited stating that she had to go meet Lexi. Damn Lexi...Figures. One time she's actually alone without Lexi and she disappears to meet her. That was really starting to get on her nerves. Lexi was starting to get on her nerves to be exact. Too bad she was so freaking old, otherwise Caroline would totally kick her ass. Or maybe not. Caroline wasn't much of an ass-kicker despite how badly she felt like she could be. There was that one time where she'd pushed Damon across the room and told him how much he sucked, though that wasn't much of an ass-kicking either. Instead she'd simply continue to give Lexi bitchy looks and short, snide comments. Yeah, that worked well enough.
Waving to Elena, Caroline remained seated on the ground where she'd been and simply looked to the floor. If Matt wasn't making an attempt to leave she wasn't going to either. Heh, Mexican stand-off... Neither of them wanted to be the one to leave first. When Matt continued to speak about the Halloween party, she looked up to him and then back at the floor. Awkward... "I'm not sure if I'm going or not. I doubt Dean would want to go.." she said, allowing her voice to trail off into the distance. Being thirty and also being a hunter she hadn't even though to ask Dean. It was better than asking and having him say no to her. However she didn't exactly think he'd want her going with someone else either, even though her and Matt were just friends...for the most part anyways.
A group might work though. At the mention of going in a group she raised her eyes to meet his with a smile. "That could definitely be fun. Jersey Shore? I'm so not being Snooki though" she said with a tiny laugh. Jersey Shore was kind of stupid, but she watched it from time to time. It could be slightly entertaining when one was bored out of their mind. Plus she couldn't really think of any other groups to dress up as at the moment. Though the idea of a party was definitely welcoming as if there was one thing in the world Caroline loved, it was parties.
Moving both of her hands to go into her hoodie pockets, she twiddled her thumbs nervously as she once again moved to avoid his eyes. Things were still slightly awkward between them. Elena had been kind of a buffer and now that she was gone, it seemed the awkwardness had returned. "Yup" she said simply, feeling her phone vibrate in her pocket. Removing her hands from her hoodie she pulled her phone out of her jeans pocket and looked at her text message. It was Dean, asking if they were going to hang out tonight. Nervously looking up to Matt, she cast her eyes downward the second his had met hers.
Maybe not tonight, with friends. Tomorrow though? [/i] Sending the text message back to him she felt slightly guilty. While Matt was her friend, there was also still something between them. However it wasn't as if anything was going to happen tonight. After the message had sent she placed the phone back into her pocket and her hands went back into her hoodie. "So..." she mumbled, attempting to fill the empty space between them but failing miserably. How had they gotten here?[/blockquote] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ::TAG:: Matthew Gregory Donovan ::OUTFIT:: Click here for Caroline's outfit.::WORD COUNT:: 621 ::NOTES:: ----

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -After watching Elena leave the air in the tomb was thick with tension. This was the first time that Caroline and Matt had been alone together since the weekend where they had let their inhibitions lose and had allowed themselves to fall back into the habit of acting before thinking. This usually wouldn’t be a bad thing however they weren’t together and yet they still had acted as if they were. Confessing their love to one another and sleeping together, yet when they woke up they went their separate ways, Caroline off to work with the cheerleading squad and Matt to work with the football team.
Even though they had shared a room for the rest of the weekend they really weren’t ever there at the same time. There had been one bed but Matt had ended up sleeping on the couch that was in there and Caroline hadn’t said anything about it as by the time she had gotten back to the room the second and third night of their trip, he had already been asleep on said couch. Once the weekend was over they left at separate times, Matt heading back with the team and Caroline taking her car back by herself.
So really the two hadn’t talked since, though they had exchanged polite glances in the school hallways every now and then. It was awkward at best and downright embarrassing at worst. Matt would admit that he loved Caroline but she had a boyfriend, or at least he thought she did, and he wasn’t one to move in on someone else’s girlfriend. He had that happen to him more than once and he refused to allow himself to fall back into that same pattern. So instead of allowing the awkwardness to continue he simply took a deep breath and sucked it up…doing what he did best.
Pretending things never happened. If she wanted to talk about it, she would bring it up. It was Caroline for god’s sake…she wasn’t exactly the queen of subtle.
“Jersey Shore is not an option.” He finally stated. “I cannot imagine any of us dressing or talking the way that they do, besides, I highly doubt any of the others at the party would know who the hell we were.” He laughed, though it was a bit forced. “Any other ideas?” Before snapping as if a light bulb went off in his head.
“I got it…we can go as a coven of vampires. And I mean the typical vampires…you know, fangs, black clothes, the whole nine yards. What do you think?” He asked with a grin, though a part of him wondered if he was going to get smacked for his idea.
It wouldn’t be the first time.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - Thankfully enough Matt fully ignored her comment about Dean, and began rambling on about other stuff. It was a good thing too because that was one conversation she wasn't looking forward to having. She felt that she hadn't talked to Matt since that weekend. Caroline knew that he still held a flame for her. Hell, she knew because she held one for him as well. They would always care about each other that way she assumed. However that weekend...well it seemed to be more than just an old flame. What she'd done with him...good lord. She couldn't even think about it without blushing. While Matt was a sensitive guy, he definitely went all caveman in the bedroom. It was really hot. God, Caroline, stop! Shaking these thoughts off she looked back up at him through heavy eyelashes. Her new mascara was absolutely amazing.
At hearing they couldn't dress up as Jersey Shore, a small frown came across her face. It was only there for a few seconds but it was there nonetheless. Guess she was the only one who really watched that show anymore. "Fine. But no, no vampires!" With a groan she shook her head and pulled herself to her feet. Walking over closer to him, she leaned up against the rock wall just in front of him. "Matthew Donovan, I am so sick of all things vampires." With a sigh she looked up to Matt, eyes serious this time and simply looked at him for a moment as if studying him. It was kind of creepy, her simply watching him with a blank stare and not saying a word. However she was simply trying to get into his head. After a moment she looked away from him, looking down at her boots. "Since when are you pro-vampire anyways?" she mumbled underneath her breath, feet still glued to her boots. Clearly he would know what she meant by this. He'd rejected her because of what she was; a vampire. Now he wanted to be one for Halloween? Talk about a 360, Matty...
Still avoiding his eyes she hoped that she hadn't just started a fight. She really wasn't in the mood for one. Plus, she wasn't looking forward to the other weekend being brought up either. But she did want to comment on the fact that he'd seemed pretty damned pro-vampire last weekend, too...but that was too snarky, wasn't it? - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ::TAG:: Matthew Gregory Donovan ::OUTFIT:: Click here for Caroline's outfit.::WORD COUNT:: 427 ::NOTES:: ----

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -He rolled his eyes at her denial over all things vampire. “Sort of hard to get away from it in this town.” He stated with a shrug, not knowing really what else to say. “Besides at least if you dress up like a vampire, no one will suspect you of one. You got to admit, seeing Damon and Stefan walking around with fangs and black capes would be pretty funny.” He stated, chuckling at the thought of all of them. His chuckles died down when he realized that he and Jeremy would also have to be in those ridiculous outfits.
Hmm…maybe vampires weren’t the thing to go as after all.
He shrugged at her question, not really quite sure how to answer her. Thinking about it he hadn’t really ever been ‘anti vampire’, it was more along the fact of his sister had been turned into one and then killed so he was more anti everyone when he had found out. He knew that he had judged Caroline unfairly, just as he had done with every other vampire (except Damon, he’d never forgive Damon for what he had done to Vicki and he still harbored a bit of resentment for Stefan not trying to do more, though he knew that was more his own issue than anyone else’s).
“Honestly I was never really against vampires and before you interrupt me let me finish.” He stated, holding up his hand in a practiced move as he knew she was going to jump in and add all sorts of things to contradict what he had said. “With everything that happened with Vicki and then learning that you had compelled me, it was too much for me to handle at that precise time in my life. It’s not a fun thing to learn that everything that you had believed in had been this one huge mess of a lie, so I freaked out over that. It wasn’t so much you being a vampire, it was everything on top of you being a vampire.”
“I’m still not saying that I’m going to jump on the ‘vampires yay parade’ as a lot of others have done, but I’m also not going to criticize someone because something happened to them that they couldn’t help. People and vampires are pretty much the same, some are good, some are not. You and Stefan, both of you are still good people. Damon and Klaus on the other hand I could honestly do without. Answer your question?” He asked, knowing Caroline and knowing that if she wanted more information she’d ask for it one way or another.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - Mystic Falls was one of the most supernaturally enhanced town's she'd ever even heard of. Though it was probably because she rarely ever even left the town. Plus she knew from experience that most people tended to ignore the supernatural and pretend it didn't exist. People were a lot happier living in denial-land and that was probably part of it as well. Nonetheless she had to secede on this one. With a shrug of her shoulders, she sighed. "True. This town is all kinds of crazy" she said, more so talking to herself than Matt at this point. Her mind kind of drifted from there. Things had changed so much when the Salvatore's had come to town. On one hand she felt a slight resentment towards them for that. On the other hand, she liked herself a lot more now than she had when they'd first come to town. Figuring she'd never win this internal battle she shook off these thoughts for the moment.
Actually taking the time to think about them all dressed up she couldn't help but stop and join in on the laughter. With a light giggle her eyes lit up for a brief moment, before returning to their doe eyed dark brown nature. "Now that would be funny. Black isn't really my color though. And a cape? Doesn't exactly sound attractive" she said, laughing once again. Despite their earlier awkwardness little moments like this forced her to feel like they could be friends again. Through everything he could still make her laugh and that was one of the things she loved most about him. Being good friends again seemed to be far off in the distant future, but she could see it nonetheless. It would just take time.
At hearing that he hadn't been anti-vampire, her lips immediately parted to butt in to his speech. As he knew her well though he asked her to let him finish before she'd even gotten a word out. It took everything she had to close those lips again. After he'd finished she couldn't help but nod agreeably. It did in fact answer her question, though it surprised her at the same time. Slowly she forced her eyes to drag themselves back up to his. It took a lot of strength to look him in the eye, but she made herself, knowing it would be mean not to at this point. "I guess I can see that....And Klaus isn't as terrible as you think. I mean he is, or was, or whatever, but he can be good too, sometimes.." she said, her voice trailing off into the distance.
Deciding that she would say screw it, she stood up off the wall. Walking over to him she put both hands on his face, cupping it between hers. Eyes connected to his intensely she hoped he wouldn't pull away from her. "For what it's worth...I'm sorry I compelled you" she whispered, hands still on his face. She wanted to be his friend, but only if he wanted her to be one...

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -He shrugged at her statement. It was true that Mystic Falls was a very strange town, then again he could guarantee that everyone thought their town as strange. Even before he had fallen head first into the vampire realm of things he had known that this town was weird. How many towns celebrated as many times a year as they did? How many schools had as many dances as they did? He knew for a fact thanks to the out of town football games that he went to constantly that most schools had some sort of welcome back to school thing, whether it be a party or a dance, a homecoming dance, some sort of valentine’s day dance and Prom. However in Mystic Falls they had all those plus about twenty others, it got slightly ridiculous.
It also tended to get a bit expensive when you were dating someone who had to go to every single one, however he digressed.
Caroline’s laughter brought him back to their conversation as he joined her in her enjoyment. “You look good in any color, but your right, black isn’t one of your best, nor is it mine.” He told her with a roll of his baby blue eyes. He could clearly remember this conversation between the two of them as Caroline tended to be a bit of a fashionista. “As I remember someone telling me, the dark colors on top of the blonde hair, pale skin and blue eyes washes me out.” The last part was said in a high pitched voice that was supposed to sound like her though it was clear he had left much to be desired. “As for the capes, I’m sure I could pull off a manly cape, but I would prefer not to if it’s all the same to you.”
Quirking an eyebrow he simply stared at her. However before he could pick his jaw up off the floor to say something about defending Klaus, there she was in front of them, their faces only a hairsbreadth apart. “I forgive you for compelling me.” He told her honestly. “Just don’t do it again.” Firm was what he needed to be because his next statement wasn’t going to be as nice or caring as he usually was.
“You are going to defend Klaus?” He asked incredulously. “After everything that he’s done to our friends…you’re going to defend him?” His blue eyes darkened to an almost cerulean color as he looked at her as if he had never seen her before.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - Her eyes closed for a moment before looking back into his blue eyes. The same blue eyes she'd looked into for months. She looked down to his lips, the same ones she'd kissed hundreds of times. One of her thumbs ran over his jaw line and while she felt it was slightly inappropriate at the time, she did it for a moment anyways. When he forgave her she lowered her hands back to her side. "Thank you" she said quietly, a small smile tugging at her perfect lips. While she wanted to lean in and hug him she'd already crossed the line with touching his face, and knew if she held him she wouldn't be able to let go. Plus, that wasn't going to be the way to be friends with him. Leading him on surely wouldn't work well into a friendship.
At the outburst about Klaus, which she'd known was coming, she shook her head and moved away from him. Simply walking she moved so that his face was to her back. Yeah, she really didn't want to see the look on his face after what she was about to say. "I know, it sounds screwed up, Matt. I know...trust me" she said, her voice growing quiet and more into a whisper.
Caroline wanted to tell him the truth. But she knew that if she did she might lose him. It didn't seem like something she could really even imagine...being completely without him. They'd broken up when he'd rejected her, and that had been terrible enough. Now that they were just getting back to being friends she couldn't imagine throwing that all down the drain...however she didn't want him to hear from anyone else either. She swallowed, and took an unnecessary deep breath. "I saw him one night, at the Grill. I didn't want to talk to him, but you know how he is.." she said, finally mustering up the courage to turn around and face him. Both of her hands went into the front pocket of her hoodie, as they did out of nervousness.
"We started drinking, and...well he actually just talked to me. All he wants is to be accepted. That's why he makes the hyrbids, he doesn't want to be different. He just wants...love" she said, forcing herself to look into Matt's eyes again. "And we kissed. And then he left town. And I haven't seen him since. It was a mistake, I know...but all I'm trying to say, is that he isn't all bad." With this her feet went right back to looking at her boots below. She couldn't watch the look on his face when he heard all of this. Not only would he be disappointed but he'd probably be pissed off as well. Maybe even disgusted. However she was glad to have it off her chest. The only person who knew about it was her and Klaus, and Katheryn. And kind of Dean. She hoped he wouldn't tell Elena...she would probably never forgive her either.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -He looked at his ex girlfriend like he had never seen her before. Had she officially lost her mind? He almost felt sick at what she had done and briefly wondered if it had only been a kiss or if it had been more? He pushed that thought out of his head before he could think too much on it for fear that he really would get sick. How could she do this to her friends? To herself? How much did Klaus have to hurt everyone around them before Caroline realized that he wasn’t a good guy? What the hell was wrong with her?
He wondered briefly if she had been compelled but he assumed that like Damon and Stefan, she had taken to ingesting vervain to protect herself from being compelled…or at least he hoped she did. Then again, if she hadn’t been on vervain that would at least give her an excuse, if she had been, she did it on her own and with her own free will and he honestly wasn’t sure which was worse. No, he knew which was worse, and that was why for the first time since he had known about her vampire status did he hope that she hadn’t started taking vervain.
Unfortunately he wasn’t very hopeful because he knew that Stefan and Damon had talked to all of them many times about keeping vervain in their systems, especially when the originals had set up a home in their town. It wasn’t safe for anyone, vampire or human alike, to not be on vervain. Hell he had a feeling that even Tyler had ingested it though he wasn’t sure if it did anything for hybrids or not…nor did he really care. He and Tyler hadn’t been on the best of terms for awhile now, though that may change depending on how things went in the near future with Klaus and the originals.
"What the hell is wrong with you Caroline?" He asked, his baby blue eyes a deep blue, though this time they were in anger. "Have you completely lost your mind? Do you remember what he has done to your friends...or did you not even care?" He asked, knowing he was being harsh but not able to stop the words from spilling out. “He killed Jenna…he turned Stefan into a psycho who was off killing people. He kept his family in coffins and turned Tyler into a hybrid. And yet you’re off making out with him? Wow, class act Care.” He stated angrily before standing up and walking slowly but purposely up the stairs, wanting to get as far away from the tomb, from Caroline, and from the knowledge that his ex girlfriend had kissed the whole group’s sworn enemy.
More furious with her than he could ever remember being.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - Maybe honesty isn't always the best policy. The pure look of outrage in his eyes was all she needed to know. There was no going back to friends now that he knew everything. Nothing she could say to him would make it any better, and she'd fucked it up for good. They couldn't go back to how they'd been before now. He was looking at her as if she was a despicable human being. Although technically she wasn't a human being at all but that was beside the point. The point was that not only was he pissed to all hell but he seemed to be legitimately disgusted at her. God, why did she have to go and tell the truth? Hadn't she learned this lesson before?
"I ask myself that all of the time..." she mumbled, and then looked up at him quickly apologetically. Shit! So not the time for jokes, Caroline. All she could do at the moment was watch him in horror as he berated her. It wasn't like she didn't know everything that Klaus had been. She'd been there the entire time, she'd watched it all too. It was more that she'd been intoxicated and lonely...but she knew that wasn't a very good excuse. Her eyes flashed in hurt as he basically called her a slut. And wasn't it kind of true? She'd never thought of herself as one, but the evidence was there.
She'd had multiple boyfriends since junior high. Then came Damon (train wreck that was), Matt, Tyler, she'd kissed Klaus, and now Dean. Christ. Maybe I am a hoe... She didn't want to think it, but Matt made it seem as if it was true. And with all that baggage how could she deny it? Tears welled in her eyes but she tried to hold them back, tried to contain the overwhelming hurt she felt. Just when they'd been getting back to normal, she went and fucked it all up again.
"Matt" she cried, reaching out to grab his arm and try to stop him as he stormed out past her. However he shook her off like a rag doll and started heading up the stairs, right past her, without a single look back. She knew she should just let him go. He needed time to think, and to cool down. However she was Caroline, and that girl didn't let anything go. So instead she was a blur as she sped up the steps right past him and halted abruptly in front of him, blocking his passage. Her arms wrapped around his back, pulling him in for a hug that he surely didn't want. "Matt. I am not letting you go, not until you calm down and talk to me" she said, squeezing him in even tighter. He wasn't getting out of her grasp unless someone pulled him out of her cold dead arms. Which, her arms were technically cold and dead right now. Still, she wasn't letting go for the life of her. She would stand right here and hold him until he forgave her, as much as she knew he would fight it.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -He was so furious he could barely see straight. What the hell was wrong with her? Had she completely lost it? Had she flipped the switch on her brain? Or was it the one on her humanity that he had been told about? He remembered when he first heard about the switch that someone could flip to shut off their emotions. At first he thought they were full of shit but after talking to Jeremy and then seeing how Stefan had done a complete 180 from the way that he was, he had to concede that it really did exist.
He could hear her voice calling his name but he ignored it. He wanted to sprint as far away from the tomb and from her as fast as he could but he refused to give her the satisfaction, instead he simply continued to walk. Unfortunately this turned out to be a bad idea as he felt a breeze rush past him before he felt arms grab him in a hug. He glared at the blonde hair that rushed past his vision alerting him that it was Caroline who currently had him in a death grip. He wanted to shake her off of him but unfortunately she was once again using her vampire strength against him, something that he hated more than anything.
No man ever wanted the knowledge that a girl was stronger than them, and Matt was definitely no exception to that rule.
“Caroline.” He stated, his voice deathly calm, though anger lurked just underneath it. “I’m going to ask you one time to let me the fuck go. In case you haven’t gotten it through your pretty little head, I’m extremely pissed off at you. I am disgusted at the thought of you sleeping with the enemy and then sleeping with me in case you’ve forgotten. So let me go.” He stated, and was glad that in her shock of him not only cussing but he assumed the shock of him throwing their one night stand in her face that she let him go and he took off, running as fast as his legs could carry him to his truck. He wans’t running because he was scared and no one who saw the look on his face would mistake that.
He was running because he was furious and needed to let off some serious steam.
Time to hit the gym.
