- - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - -Dean stood there starring at the house that once was the home of his family, he always said he is never coming back here in less he had to. But for some reason he felt like coming home and visiting his old house, it really was hard to believe that this was the house that started it all. This was the house that ruined Sam and Dean’s life, took there mom away from them juts like that. God how Dean wishes so much that he could go back in time, to were Sam and him could have a normal family life. But even if that could happen he wouldn’t want it too, because if it did all those people they saved wouldn’t be here living a happy normal life.
Dean took one more long look at the house before getting back into his Impala, he knew that he shouldn’t be sitting there anymore other wise the new owners might call the cops on him. But he didn’t feel like heading back to Richmond just yet, he figured why not get beer before he heads back. Check out the town Bar to were he use to live. So He got the Impala and took off till finely came to a place that was on the side of the road, it had looked like a bar and motel. It was perfect Dean thought to himself, a place he could get drunk then crash after he was done. Dean found and place to park and made his way into the bar.
Dean walked in looking around at how nice of a bar it was, he then walked over and found a nice place to sit down at the bar. “Hey Babe can I get a beer please.” Dean called down to the bartender. He really had needed this drink after tonight, seeing his old house, thinking about his mom and dad. Seeing that house really had brought up some old memories, good ones and bad ones. The bartender finally had brought Dean his beer. “Thanks!” he said while taking the beer. He then begin to think more about that house and how it really had changed his life, why couldn’t things worked out? Why couldn’t he just have had an apple pie life like everyone? Why do all things that go bump in the night have to be real? Dean then continued drinking alone.

With what appeared to the human eye as merely a blink Castiel appeared on the barstool beside Dean, but the wind that blew passed him. It was different then flying as the faithful would usually think of it, but much less conspicuous then unfurling the entire length of his wingspan. He'd timed it well so that the waitress had turned her back and there was no one else paying attention to the taller man and took no notice of the smaller dark haired man that suddenly appeared beside him. While time in Heaven moved differently then it did on Earth, Cas was still very aware of how much time had passed since the last time he'd been here and it had been long. Too long implied that he had dallied unnecessarily while in Heaven, but the length of time was still enough that he knew that he had to be getting back. Things were not running as smoothly behind the Pearly Gates as they had before Michael had been cast into the Pit along-side Lucifer.
His usual too-big-for-him khaki colored trench coat was folded under him, spine straight and hands resting on his thighs rather then the sleek dark stained wooden bar top. The angel cocked his head to the man beside him. He knew they were in Lawrence, Kansas, Dean and Sam's hometown and was slightly concerned to find the Older Winchester sitting alone in a bar here at the start of it all. It actually hurt the fallen's heart a little to see the warrior in such a state, to see his friend so melancholy. But this had become part of Dean's usual demenor, so it wouldn't have been too badly of a concern if it wasn't for the location, this wasn't the ending. His Destiny had already taken him here, more then once, this wasn't where his path was supposed to be leading him, rather he was moving backwards when he was supposed to be moving forward.
"Dean."

- - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - -Dean kicked back his ice cold beer, he was feeling so much better all ready. This was just what he needed to hit the spot after all this stress lately, with having to help Sam get back on his feel, going to talk to Lisa, and now even helping Jo back on her feet its been a really hard week for Dean. But when was life ever really easy for him, it never was with his job. Its been that way ever sense his mom died, and the sad thing was it never well get any easier for him. That was just the life he was distend to live forever, him and Sam both.
Dean then all the sudden looked next to him to find Castiel, he just had shown up out of no were. “What the hell man were you come from? How long have you been just sitting there like that?” The hunter said in shock. Dean didn’t really get it all this time Castiel hasn’t been around, now all the sudden he was just there having a drink with him. He must have not be that busy with heaven at the moment, because it seemed like any other time he was way to busy to even help Dean.
He then looked at the Angel with a confused look on his face, he just didn’t know what he was doing there. But of course as always Dean wanted to know why he was there, he was his friend after all and he did care for Castile. Even though he did piss him off most of the time. “Ok Cass so what is going on? I mean why are you here is everything ok? I mean last time I needed your help you vanished out of then air” He asked.

"I have not been here long enough to see you pass words with the female keeper of the alcohol." With his complete lack of expression, it was hard to tell if this was a statement or a joke. It was usual for them to assume statement. One of the reasons that Castiel made such entrances during non-dire circumstances was mostly to keep the hunters on their toes, partially because very little managed to surprise either of them quite so much. It was a stroke of mostly harmless levity in a world where there was very little innocent fun any more. If watching Dean Winchester jump and spill a little of his alcoholic beverage on the counter-top was wrong, then the official reasoning was that he needed to be ever vigilant, especially at a time when many secret worlds were intermingling and becoming one; demons and monsters were everywhere, with all different types of abilities and masks or faces.
That was the official reasoning, and only if he was asked directly.
"Not everything is okay, but there is no imminent threat at present. I am here because I've completed my business elsewhere and now I've returned." When he mentioned his leaving him with one Joanna Harvelle and her home coming upon the beach. "I got called away. I had faith that you could take care of your friend." It was true, he'd known very little of the young hunter, only that it was important that she was no longer dead. She was an Innocent for everything she'd been through and there had better have been a good reason to drag her from her Absolution and set her back upon the path of her mortal coil. This Cas felt very strongly about. It was one thing to raise a righteous man out of the depths of the Pit where he'd been placed; it was quite another to drag one of Heaven's children from the arms of Paradise.

- - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - -Dean couldn’t help but laugh when Castiel was trying to call the person a bartender, but that was just how he was clueless to everything. Dean didn’t care though he still liked chilling with him, that is when he isn’t not pissing him off all the time. Like leaving all the sudden, not being there when Dean has needed him, or just not checking in after weeks at a time. It really was getting old fast, he just wished it was like old times to were Castiel was there more to help him and Sam when they needed him.
“No Cass I have passed words to the female bartender, trust me. I’m drinking a beer right now as we speak. All though it might be time for a refill.” Dean then called down the bartender asking for two beers, he figured why not get one for Cass. If he didn’t drink it that just meant more beer for him in the end. “ I got you a beer as well.” all though the Angel didn’t deserve one for how he had been. But he was still his friend after all and he wasn’t going to be like that.
He was right Dean didn’t have any trouble taking care of his friend that wasn’t the point, the point was that he had just left him all of the sudden with no explanation. “You know man Jo was sacred, she had just came back from heaven, and didn’t know what was going on. It might have helped if you were there to explain to her a little bit more about why she was back. Instead you just took off, but what the hell else is new! I‘m getting use to you doing this by now” He wasn’t happy with the Angel at all, he just wished that sometimes heaven wasn’t the only thing that matter. Castile needed to realize he had friends down here that did need him as well.

When the frosty mug was set down in front of him, Cas eyed for a moment as though it were something that were going to leap off of the wood and bite him; but not for the reasons that Dean would think. Since his fall, every time Castiel had attempted alcohol up until this point, it was never the social affair that often it was taken as; he always drank unto excess. It wasn't as though he could become dependant on the beverage, even its inebriating effects could easily be suppressed should he wish it.
In a move that would most likely surprise the older Winchester, Cas reached out with his right hand, threaded his fingers through the handle and grasped the main heavy glass body. He raised the glass in a saluting gesture to Dean, his spine still that perfect picture of posture and took a draught of the booze.
"I appreciate that, Dean."
Resting the bottom of the glass on the bar again, hand still wrapped loosely around it, Cas listened to Dean, feeling terrible inside for the tone that Dean's voice held. Cas himself was well aware of the hardships that coming to Earth from Heaven were, how it hurt clear down to the soul that you started to question. Everything was darker, colder, just harsher all over.
"I wish I was able to give her more information, but I can not give what I do not have. To have me stay there, without good reasons to why I dragged her back to Earth, would have been even worse. At least when I Fell, I made my choice. I was the one who Disobeyed; but Joanna is an Innocent and I pray that there was a good reason to set her back on the path of life." The glass came up again, cool glass pressing against the mortal façade, his lips. The fermented hops filled liquid passed over tongue and down throat.
"For all of by absences, please do not mistake them for disinterest or the lack of caring. But I have done all I can do within the Gates of Heaven, if I were to do any more it would be too much." He only pulled the glass a little ways away from his mouth, only enough to not impede human speech, "Much as you dislike me at times, you will not have seen the last of me, Dean Winchester." It hurt that Dean had believed himself abandoned... did Sam feel similarly?

- - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - The bartender brought Dean his drink as well, he begin to pick up his frosty mug and take a big drink. There was nothing like an Ice cold beer at the end of the day, to make everything better especially with a friend. Even though Dean was a pissed with the Angel for always running off, he still enjoyed there drinking times together. They always having a good time a laugh, even get into trouble a time or two. Dean still to this day cant forget the time Cas got them kicked out of a Brothel, it still make laugh till he cries. “No problem Cas, but you know you need to just learn to check in more. You know you could be dead and me and Sam not even know it, do you ever think about stuff like that?”
The Angel then begin to tell Dean the true reason to why he had brought Jo back, and for what he told him made Dean happy. Plus everything he had said was true, Jo was young and innocent and didn’t disserve to die. All she was doing was trying to help and keep the gang safe. And what she get out of all that, a hell hound eating at her gut. Jo disserves more then anyone to be here right now, even more then Sam and Dean does for that matter. “ Cas there is good reason to bring her back to earth, Jo is a great person and I thank you for bring her back to us.” Dean raised his beer to the Angel after that trying to show him thanks.
Dean could see that his Angel friend did feel bad for not being around much, and maybe Dean was being hard on him after all. Who was he to say that Heaven was more important then him, now that he wasn’t even the vassal anymore Dean was more of a nobody. Sad has it is to say it was true. “So Cas are you saying Sam and Me will see more of you then?” The hunter asked curiously.

"I have been checking in, last week you were praying to find your car keys, I was the one who helped you find them; I just didn't manifest." It was something so tiny and asinine, but it was something little that he could do on a few second breather that he had gotten. The only reason he had even heard Dean was because it was a Thursday and he had a special connection with the hunter. But thankfully it seemed that Dean was starting to listen to reason, at least Cas' reasons. He had been so dead set in his own thoughts and ways that he hadn't even stopped to consider any other possible explanation or way of thinking. There were days you could reason with Dean, other days you could baffle him with logic, other days you might as well have been attempting to take down a brick wall with a sewer's needle.
"You have no need to thank me, Dean, I did what I was told. Much in the way you shouldn't thank me for taking you out of the Pit." Being thanked for doing what his Father wished of him made Castiel feel strange, it wasn't Pride because he knew what that felt like; but in the same breath it wasn't Shame either. Cas quietly tried to find the source behind the feeling while Dean continued. He nodded in response to Dean's inquiry as he took another sip of his beer, "Where is Sam?" Cas actually turned and looked, almost expecting to see a tall moppy headed hunter come walking up at any time, "How has he been adjusting to the return of his soul?" Cas had some very strong opinions about how the younger Winchester's soul had been returned to him. But unfortunately he had had no say in the temporary return of Jessica, the best he could do is make sure that everything had turned out alright and the foolish little girl didn't do any irreparable damage.

- - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - Dean felt really dumb when Castiel had said something about him praying for his keys, which he couldn’t lie was pretty dumb on his part. But it was nice to hear that he did help him. “Look Cas I really didn’t think someone was going to help me with that, I have just been going threw a lot of stress to the point I guess I’m doing dumb things. Sorry about that but thanks for help man, plus you know I cant lose the keys to my baby man. I will just die if I cant drive her you know that.” Dean then though about why the Angel might be getting sick of him, asking for such things like that. Even he could lie he was getting kind of ridiculous, but stress can do that to a man.
Dean was grateful to the Angel he had after all done a lot for him, and he might not show that to him enough. But the truth was Dean was very thankful to him for that. “Cas I may not have told you enough but I am thankful for you taking me out of the pit, if it wasn’t for you I would have never gotten out of that hell. So thanks man.” he said while patting the Angel on the back.
Dean then begin to take another drink of his beer when the Angel asked him were Sam was. Not here that was for sure, he was back in Richmond still trying to get his marbles straight. “Sam is back in the falls staying at a motel, and yeah I guess he is doing ok. Still trying to get the hang of things. But He is better then I though he would be that’s for sure, I’m just here in Lawrence meeting up with an old friend for some info on a job.” But that wasn’t the truth at all, Sam was still trying to learn to deal and Dean was here because he missed the life that he once had. He missed when things were simple and he just had his family. He missed when he didn’t have all this pain and death all around him. But for some reason he didn’t want his Angel friend to know all that, Cas had bigger things to worry about.

He couldn't be completely sure, but Castiel was pretty sure that Dean had missed the point and partial joke that he'd been trying to make. Sure he had actually helped him to locate his keys, but it was mostly because it had been Thursday, Cas could do just about whatever he wanted on his day of the week, so while he hadn't been able to come back at the time, he could still lend the boys a little hand. But if this was what Dean did after he found his keys, he wasn't sure how he felt.
But it was when Dean actually sat back and thanked him that Castiel actually started feeling really guilty. While he had been the one to actually get Dean out, it had only been because he was the fastest angel in the garrison who'd gone down and laid siege upon the Pit. It hadn't mattered who was the one to get him out, as long as he was brought back to Earth and his soul was planted firmly back into his body. He wasn't sure exactly how he was supposed to tell Dean such a thing, but he tried anyway, honesty after all,
“Do not thank me, Dean, there were many who ventured into Hell to get you back out.”
While his face remained impassive, Castiel was shocked to hear that Dean had traveled the over 1100 miles alone without his brother who most likely having a bad time since the return of his soul. He expected Sam to come back from the pool table or rest room, but apparently he was all the way back in Richmond.
“Are you no longer working together on jobs, then?” The pair had split up once or twice before and none of those times had gone well. Not because the boys weren't accomplished Hunters by themselves, but they worked better together as a team, as a family. To find Dean sitting in their home town without his brother, to whom this place was just as important; it frankly broke the angel's heart.

- - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - He could tell that Castile was starting to feel bad for everything, not being around when they needed him most. or not being there to answering his prayers when he should have. Dean was staring to feel a lot better with now all this knowing that Cas did very much care. All though he was feeling bad now for being hard on the Angel so much, but could anyone really blame him thing have been crazy lately. So it didn’t really help Dean not to have him around in this time of need. He felt so lost not getting the answers when he really needed them most, but by the way Castiel was talking it sounded like he was going to be around a lot more.
Dean couldn’t help but giggled when he told him a lot of people would have gotten him out of hell. He very much doubted that anyone would have helped Dean Winchester of all people. It seemed like most of the time people were just dying to fined away to have him and Sam killed. Especially with Sam because of him being a special child and all, which would probably be part of the reason people might have wanted him dead. For doing all he did in keeping Sam alive, lord knows Gordon wanted them both Dead. But he got what was coming to him when he tried that shit. “Cas I don’t know so much about people wanting me out, if it wasn’t for you man I don’t think I would be here now. So like I said thanks.”
It seemed the Angel was very shocked to hear that he wasn’t with Sam, and that he drove all this way. He couldn’t really lie to him anymore about why he really was there. He took another big swig of his beer before turning to look at the Angel. “Well I cant lie to you, I’m really hear because well… I guess I wanted to see my old house, I really have been missing my mom and dad lately. It just with everything that been going on I really wish my dad was here. I mean he had all the answers and he knew what to do. So I guess seeing my old house made me feel better for some reason.” Dean then quickly wanted to change the subject. “But as for me and Sam no we are fine, been working cases ever since he came back from hell.

It really sounded like Dean didn't believe him when he found out that there had been a siege on Hell for him. He was actually pretty sure that there wasn't anything he could do to convince the Hunter otherwise. In truth, Cas had really just made sure that he was faster then all of his brothers and sisters. It was one thing that his smaller size was actually better for, it meant that when he flew he was more aerodynamic. In truth, he believed that for once, after everything that he'd done and been through, that the Hunter deserved to be the one to be saved this time. In the end, Cas had wanted to be that hero for him.
But without telling him that part, there was no way to get Dean to stop thanking him. But, that wasn't something that was going to come out of Castiel's mouth, not ever if he had his way. But then again, Dean was also a very paranoid man at the end of the day; not that he didn't have very good reason to be. It was also nice to hear Dean tell him the truth, but for him to take something back and tell the truth, that meant that he had lied the first time. How he felt about that didn't show at all on the angel's face.
“Did you consider that, maybe, with everything that has been going on with himself, a little visit home would be in order for your brother as well? You have your memories, Dean, but Sam only has your stories and physical things. I appreciate your want to be grounded in familiarity, I've wanted something similar from time to time.” But the home that he remembered from when he was young wasn't the place that it had been. Heaven was a much darker, and a much colder place, at least for it's direct children.
“I'm glad to know that everything is fine between you two.”

- - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - Castiel understood everything Dean told him, which was why they made such great friends, he was the only one that could really get him. Which was probably why he has really missed having him around so much, he really has felt he has had no one. He couldn’t always talk to Sam he had way to much on his plate, plus sometimes it might have to do with Sam. Cant really talk when its about the person you have a problem with, would be right.
He could talk to Lisa when they were together but he just cant now, with them not dating it wouldn’t be right. Even though he really wishes he could talk to her or even see her for that matter, he missed her more then she even knows. He just hopes that she is ok and safe. But then Dean got an idea. “Hey Cass you think you could check in on Lisa and Ben for me soon, I just have to know that they are all right and safe. I have not seen them in a while and I worry about them everyday that goes by.” he said with his head looking down at the bar.
But then he pulled himself out of that mood not wanting to be down anymore, he wasn’t the type to get sad. He really didn’t want the Angel to see him this way. “ so Cass you need to meet up with Sam and me real soon, I know he would want to see you. You are going to be down on earth for awhile right? If so I could take you back with me, you could see Sam at are motel. The we could all talk and hang just like old times, come on what you say?” He hoped he would say yes, he hoped that the Angel still wasn’t busy dealing with Heaven bullshit. But he was sure in the next few minutes he was going to tell Dean he couldn’t. He sat there waiting to see what he would say.

There it was again, that particular feeling of being on just the same page as someone else. Being an angel, Castiel knew that there were times that he just didn't 'get' some human customs or mannerisms. No matter how much time he spent around them, he just thought about things differently, understood them differently. It was no one's fault it was just the way they were all created, all raised. He'd missed this, he missed human speech; Enochian, while a beautiful language, was one that sometimes you just needed to sully your mouth with a baser speech to fully understand it. He and another brother of his, now long lost, had had a similar conversation on many occasions since the creation and subsequent fall of the Tower.
But it was Dean's next request that threw the angel for a bit of a loop. He hadn't been aware that Dean was attempting to patch things through with his Apple-Pie 'wife' and Picket-Fence 'son'. He understood that a family was something Dean always wanted, he wanted that father/son connection that he'd gotten a taste of when he was the one to raise his brother, but one that is not fully realized at such a tender age. While he would never say anything aloud, or give Dean any impression of his opinion, Cas couldn't help but wonder just how he felt about such a relationship. It put the Innocents in danger of course, gave a pair of mostly indoctrinated humans a large target on their backs. But in the end was that really the issue?
“Of course, Dean.” The voice, the face they betrayed nothing of his thoughts; it gave Dean nothing but the feeling of satisfaction that his loved ones were going to be cared for and cared for well. Because at the end of that day that was all that he could do. He would protect this mother and her child in a similar way to the way he kept after Sam, though not exact. The younger Hunter could very well take care of himself on a normal day, he had been strong enough to wrestle control back from Lucifer, a task that while he prayed would happen, Cas had been almost certain in his heart of hearts that the task was impossible. But still, if anything were to happen to Sam and now to Lisa and Ben; a very important part of what made Dean the man he was, the friend he was, would be broken forever. He just couldn't lose his friend like that, not if there was something he could do to stop it.
The offer of the trio of them getting together again; for what Dean had called on an earlier occasion a 'beer and bullshit session', this actually brought a smile to the angel's face. That sounded nice. He needed a break from the blood, from the death. The flashing white light that would be beautiful to look upon were that it didn't mean the deaths of his brothers and sisters. Angels already lived in Heaven. Where did they go when they die?
“I think that would do me, do us all a world of good.” he answered, just missing most of the implication that Dean was afraid he would decline. “Why don't you start back, take your time and finish clearing your head. I will go check on your loved ones, that way there is nothing weighing on your mind as you attempt to get-” he paused for a minute, searching his memory for the proper Winchester-ism for what he was trying to say, “Shit-faced.” he said finally with a note of 'aha, I got it' in his voice.

- - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - Castiel was right he did need to start heading back, he didn’t want Sam to worry anymore about were the hell he was and what he was doing. All this was suppose to be was a quick trip here and back. But he couldn’t help that is had taken him so long, he had to catch up with his old Angel friend who he never sees anymore. For all he knows he might not see Cas again for a long while, it seemed like all he did was come and go.
“yeah you know I do need to start getting back to my brother, god only knows what he could be doing alone. I mean its Sam he could be starting a whole bunch of trouble, now if it was me and I was alone I would just sit and chill. You know drink a beer and maybe watch some cartoon porn.” Dean said with a laugh and a grin. He was worried about him though, he did just come back from hell in all. So he didn’t like to leave him alone for long.
“Well Cas I have to get going, please man don’t go disapering on me all the time. You need to Check in with me and Sam more we need you man. Its not the same on jobs with out you.” Dean finished off his beer with one last drink, then put on his jacket getting ready to head to the door. “Well I’m off got to get back to Sam, talk to you soon Cas.” Then he muttered under is breath before walking out. “Or at lest I hope so.” Dean then headed out the door making his way back to is baby, hopeing that real soon he did see him again.
