- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -Elena Isobel Gilbert sighed slightly as she walked into the Mystic Grill. This place honestly had been one of her saving graces over the past few weeks. It gave her a place where she could get away from everything, including school, her friends, her boyfriend, her brother and her aunt. She loved all of them (well, all of them except school), but she definitely needed time away from all of them.
She had originally taken space up in the campus library. It was one of the only quiet places there was on campus, as it was required. The librarian, Mrs. Finch, was a stickler for quiet, and no one wanted to mess with her. The woman was probably 80 years old and had been known to smack people with rulers and throw books, Elena had seen it all coming from her at one point or another.
Elena tended to try and get her homework done several days in advance that way she didn't have to worry about it. Which seemed to be a good thing since most nights she tended to be dealing with the supernatural, something that she never thought she would ever actually think, let alone say out loud. Unfortunately she'd been having weird dreams recently which had kept her mind occupied. So here she was, in the library, working on homework that was due in her last class that day. This wasn't good at all. Luckily it was Psychology homework and as it was her eventual major when she went away to college, it all worked out well. She just hoped she could concentrate on it instead of concentrating on her dreams.
Elena shook her head slightly and looked down at her book in front of her. She opened up the pages and immediately tried to read what was written…easier said than done. It was like she was cursed today. Apparently some idiot thought it would be funny to run around the library, so now there was a freshman running around with 80 year old Mrs. Finch running after him with a ruler. It was too funny not to laugh at, but it didn’t help her problem of studying.
Unfortunately after that whole debacle the library had been a favorite for a lot of other students as they wanted to see the old woman throwing things...so the Mystic Grill had become her new study place.
Hopefully it would stay that way.

Giles had always wondered if he would hit a mid-life crisis. He had been through quite a few different types of crisis and he had thought that a few years back when he had gone through unemployment was his rock bottom. The feelings of being excluded and useless just were horrible, enough to drive a man to drink. And thus, now that he felt out of the loop with all of the people who were in Richmond, he was drinking in a bar in a neighboring town. Chances were much less likely that anyone he knew would find him here. When all else failed, Giles turned to bourbon, and he was a bit ashamed that he did so. But he simply felt stuck. Like the mid-life crisis had hit. What was worse was that he had responsibilities. He should have just taken the next plane to Rome and gotten back to work training Watchers, filing paperwork, or doing research. But then again, he didn’t think he was the only one skipping out on his responsibilities. He hadn’t seen hide nor hair of Buffy in days, it seemed. Willow, he had met with once, but she merely brushed him off with a polite smile and a hug. Any of the potentials that he had engaged in polite conversation said that the Slayer-Watcher boarding house had to be fumigated for pests or some such and that Buffy and the others had repainted it and that was all they knew. And in the few days that Giles had spent away from the boarding house, he had run into Ethan Rayne of all people. And somehow, Giles had let himself open up to the man. Yes, it seemed that something had given Ethan a conscience where there appeared to have been none before, but it made Giles incredibly uncomfortable that he was expressing a willingness to help a warlock who had nearly gotten him killed on several occasions. They had laughed together about old times, for God’s sakes. Something was utterly wrong with that situation. Sipping his drink, the watcher groaned. He couldn’t read the clock at the far end of the grill without his glasses, which had seemed to mysteriously disappear. He figured that it was some time in the afternoon, but he thought it would be a good idea to exit before too many people entered the bar. He did not have the patience or disposition to deal with other drinkers right now. Lifting himself from the barstool, he began to shuffle his way towards the wall with the clock. He felt rather lightheaded, but onward he went, when he felt what appeared to be a body run into him. More loud crashes happened, and the unmistakable sound of splintering china rang through the restaurant. Giles tried to focus his eyes and recognized that he had inadvertently crashed into a busboy, causing the dishes he was carrying to drop and shatter on the floor. ”Oh, dear— I’m very sorry,” The Englishman did sound sorry, despite his words being slightly slurred. The busboy gave him a dark scowl, and they both bent down to clean the broken dishes, ”I’m truly... very—Ah!” Giles chided himself internally, as a sharp ceramic fragment had gashed a small cut across his finger, causing him to yelp in pain. One should probably not handle sharp objects when inebriated. +++ TAGS: Elena WORD COUNT: 561 NOTES: Poor drunk Giles...

- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -Staring down at her homework her mind was a blur of random blurs, images and memories. She had no idea when her life had spun so completely out of control and yet for some reason it had done so without permission. Granted, she doubted that anyone ever truly gave permission for their live to go off the deep end insane but still, the fact remained that hers had and she wasn’t at all happy about it. Between losing Jenna and John a few months before, Alaric’s depression and subsequent drinking and trying to be a parent to Jeremy while trying to search for a way to help Stefan, her life had become a mess that she didn’t understand.
Hearing a loud crash her eyes turned to make out where the noise had come from, a bit annoyed that she was developing a headache from not only her intense thoughts but also the loud noises omitting from every inch of the grill. She knew it was insane but she had the feeling that the grill was even louder than normal and that realization caused her to groan, knowing she was not going to get anything of subsequence done homework wise today. She could head home she guessed but she really didn’t need the distractions that were there so really, what other choices did she have?
Noting that the noise had been a bus boy and an older gentlemen colliding she started to turn her head away but noticed that the older man was holding his finger as if he had hurt it. She couldn’t see if it was bleeding from where she sat but saw that a few of the ceramic dishes were broken so there was a good chance he was. With the amount of vampires in this town bleeding around anyone was not a good thing so the brunette stood up before she consciously realized what she was doing and headed towards the ruckus. She waved off John, who was the busboy that the older gentlemen had collided with. “Excuse me sir?” She asked with a friendly smile. “Are you hurt?” She asked him, noting the blood on his finger. She had a band-aid back at her table in her purse so she offered her hand to help him up.
“I have a first aid kit in my bag, if you want I can help you fix up your finger.” She asked, hoping he would take her suggestion and not simply walk out the door. As much as she hated to admit it, she was doing this more for Stefan than anyone else. Stefan could walk in the day and if he smelled someone bleeding, there was no way he wouldn’t lure him away. No one deserved to die simply because they got a cut on their hand…but she also didn’t want anyone to add to Stefan’s already considerable body count.

Holding out his cut finger, Giles switched to his other hand to pick up more shards, more carefully this time. Somehow the warning he gave himself had been blurred out by the amount of alcohol he had consumed, ”N-no, really, I was clumsy. I really am to blame,” Giles continued in his apologies, despite the bus boy obviously not wanting to hear it. But thankfully, someone the young man seemed to know came and shooed him away, a young woman, probably younger than twenty years old. He had heard that this neighborhood was a high school town of sorts, so it really wasn’t too surprising to see someone so young here. He was probably the one more out of place. Well, especially now that he had caused such a commotion. It was somewhat ironic though, that wherever Giles went, there seemed to be a young woman looking after him. ”O-o-only a scratch,” Giles said a bit self-consciously to the teenager, trying to be coherent as possible. How in the world had he become this drunk? Looking down at the wound, he noted that he had certainly had worse in the past, but it was large enough that he gave a slight nod when she offered to assist him, ”That’s quite kind of you.”In fact, it was very kind, but also a little bit strange. Perhaps the girl was just taking pity on him, but usually wasn’t it the staff of the establishment that helped in cases like these? Giles was fairly certain that the young brunette was just another customer. But in any case, he was going to follow her. It would be rude of him to turn down her help, after she had gone out of her way to aid him. ”Do you—Do you—“ The watcher had no idea why exactly he was asking, or rather trying to ask, this nice young woman something. He had no idea what exactly he was trying to ask, even, ”Do you ever feel like… bad things never stop happening? And everyone leaves you.... to deal with the aftermath?” Giles shook his head, as if suddenly having a realization, ”What am I talking about? You’re a teenage girl. You feel that way on a daily basis. My apologies.”But his mind wandered past his cut finger and his odd questions and settled on how he was forgetting something, ”Oh. My glasses. Please excuse me,” He walked, or rather, staggered his way back to the bar and found his glasses folded neatly on his red leather notebook that he was currently using as his research. He had nearly forgotten that he had tried to delve into work before he had decided drinking was the route he preferred. Perhaps Buffy was right and he should look into hiring a therapist. Every single one of the Slayer gang needed it, it seemed. But he placed that thought on hold, gathered his items and made his way back to his benefactor. A weak smile flickered across his face for a moment, ”Yes.. um. Thank you. Please.”+++ TAGS: Elena WORD COUNT: 513 NOTES: I think there might be an exchange of information all around. - - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -The brunette smiled at the man and led him back to her table. She could tell he was a tad drunk but looking at the clothing he wore it was clear that he wasn't a bum off the street...and really what right did she have to judge? She had a feeling if she looked on the other side of the bar she'd probably see Alaric over there, who was technically acting as her guardian right now and who was most likely plastered as well so really...what did she care? As long as he wasn't driving she really couldn't say much. "Not a problem...I'm a self proclaimed klutz it seems as well so I tend to carry around a first aid kit with me at all times." She told him with another smile.
Okay, so that wasn't exactly truthful. She had taken to carrying around a first aid kit with her since her life had turned upside down and she had found that either she or people around her had a tendency to get hurt. There weren't a lot of good medical supplies in it being that it was tiny enough to fit in her purse, but the basics were there and luckily that's all she would need for the moment.
Once seated at her booth she grabbed the first aid kit out of her purse and took an alcohol wipe out, looking up at the elder gentleman. "This may sting a bit." She warned him before cleaning the cut as thoroughly as she could. His words surprised her but she nodded anyway. "I definitely agree with that sentiment." She told him honestly before laughing at his apologies. "No no...it's fine. And I promise that while yes I feel like that and did before I really realized what bad things actually meant, I do know what they mean now." She told him, not wanting to bother him with her problems but wanting him to know that she did understand what bad things actually were.
She knew that most teenage girls thought that a zit was the end of the world, something that back in the day she might have had thought as well. However as she told Stefan over a year ago...her life had bad things come into it the day her parents car drove off the bridge...though she hadn't realized then that even before that, she had been marked. She noted the book that was seated in front of him and tilted her head to the side a bit. “Is that part of the bad things that are happening to you?” She asked before blushing. “Sorry, I’m nosy. Feel free not to answer me.” She told him as she took another alcohol wipe out, preparing to continue cleaning the cut. It wasn’t that deep but she wanted to make sure it didn’t get infected since he had cut himself on a dirty plate.

Giles let himself be led to the table, rubbing his forehead with his uncut hand, but at the same time attempting not to stumble around too much before he sat down with the girl. The girl said she was a klutz, and Giles gave a soft embarrassed laugh to that. While not usually too clumsy, the watcher had a history of being attacked and usually left unconscious, so scrapes and bumps were something he had gotten used to a long time ago. He nodded when she said the alcohol pad might sting a bit, and it did, but Giles was lightheaded enough that he didn’t wince as she cleaned the cut. To his surprise, he answered his query, with a surprising answer as well, ”Oh,” The older gentleman replied. It did seem that she was more mature than your average high school student, but the way she answered made him feel a touch guilty. He had probably brought up some painful memory from her past. Before he could stop himself, he apologized again, ”Terribly sorry to bring it up.””No, it’s fine,” That’s not what Giles would typically say to a stranger interested in his research, particularly a human stranger. But the alcohol was still muddling his thoughts and the girl was being so kind to him, the watcher couldn’t find it in him to ignore her question, especially with how she had become slightly uncomfortable for asking. This girl seemed like the caring type, the one who tried to fix situations on her own, which she had somewhat confirmed by how she had answered Giles’ random philosophical question. He looked down to her tending to the cut, as well as the red notebook, ”Not so much, no. I’m afraid the problems I have are much more mundane than my research.”His eyes glanced up to the ceiling in thought for a moment before he closed them for a moment, ”Actually, I can’t tell if it’s more ordinary than what I study.” Yes, Giles had dealt with being separated from the group of young people he considered his family before, and it hurt that it seemed they were avoiding him, but he probably wouldn’t have turned to the bottle if it had just been that he had to deal with. No, what was driving him to drink was Ethan Rayne, no doubt. The watcher didn’t want to remember the particulars right now, but Ethan had shocked him. Giles earnestly wanted to help the man, but with their history, he had to be cautious. But with the way Ethan was acting, it confused and alienated the watcher even more than usual. He hardly wanted to bring that up with the young woman in front of him, though, even as smashed as he was. Although, she probably had more experience in rejecting men than Giles did, though it was still unclear if that was what Giles had to do. Regardless, he wanted to make polite small talk. Even if he was poor at it, it would make him feel more at ease than just sitting there with the girl tending to his finger, ”I see that you were studying yourself?”+++ TAGS: Elena WORD COUNT: 527 NOTES: Is it weird that I find this situation kind of adorable?

- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -She shook her head with a smile. "It's okay...I know a lot of people have that misconception about teenage girls. Heck most of the teenage girls that I know are like that so I understand. Don't apologize...it's not a big deal." She told him, not wanting him to feel guilty, especially since he was already intoxicated. She knew how drunken people could be...they tended to be highly emotional. So it was all up up up for awhile but it didn't take most of those imbibing to fall down and it was almost impossible to get their moods back up again. It was just easier to avoid the downfall if possible, especially since he was technically a stranger. That reminded her... "I'm Elena by the way...Elena Gilbert." She introduced herself.
It was odd when he answered that his research had nothing to do with his problems and then recanted his statement, telling her that he had no idea if they were connected. That struck as odd since if he knew what his problems were and knew what his research consisted of then shouldn't he know if the two were linked? Again, this struck her as a weird statement and she made a mental note to keep a closer eye on him. There were too many vampires, werewolves and hybrids around...not to mention witches and warlocks, so it was easy to get paranoid...but she had been burned a few times now so she knew she had to keep her guard up.
She nodded her head, her brown hair falling into her face which she pushed back impatiently. "Unfortunately my research is no fun. Homework seems to be the bane of my existence anymore." She told him with a laugh. "I can guarantee yours is much more interesting. What are you working on if you don't mind me asking?" She asked, hoping she sounded innocent. She needed to make sure he wasn't a danger. She didn't get that vibe off of him but then again she hadn't gotten the vibe off of several people before either. It was always better to be safe rather than sorry. She had learned that the hard way.
Before he could answer she saw Matt walking around and flagged him down, smiling when he came to the table. “Hey Matt, can we get two coffees?” She asked him, nodding when he asked her silently if she was alright.

”Yes,” The watcher agreed with the girl’s statement about teenagers. Being a high school librarian, Giles had seen plenty of those girls. But they all grew up at some point. Buffy and Willow he had been allowed to see them become adults. They still needed his assistance, but to what degree? It seemed off that they would welcome him to Richmond so warmly, then avoid him for the most part. He blinked a bit, trying to become more restrained. It simply wouldn’t do if Giles said something the girl didn’t need to hear, whether that was his personal problems or anything to do with the occult. He nodded when she introduced herself, ”Giles. It’s my last name, but everyone refers to me by it. Erm, good to meet you, Miss Gilbert.”Giles couldn’t help but quietly chuckle as the girl complained of her homework. Perhaps she wasn’t so different from the average high school student after all. However, she was right, what Giles was studying would probably be far more interesting to the young woman tending to his finger—if she didn’t find it completely bizarre first. The watcher found most subjects, supernatural or not, fairly fascinating. On the other hand, Giles gave a gentle nod and said, ”I suppose if educational systems would actually supply thoughtful material rather than busy work, your studies would be as enjoyable as mine can be.” He gave a little pause, then thought to explain himself, ”I was a high school librarian for a few years and I remember the complaints rather vividly.””Ah, American history, the colonial states, in particular,” Giles basically flat out lied about his research. Well, the next part would be true. Usually a grain of truth in these things gave the lie more credibility and thus smoothed out the deceit better, ”I was in Richmond, when a man named Elijah recommended I come to Mystic Falls. You have very detailed records here, surprisingly so.” In fact, the library annals had proved most fruitful in the couple of hours the watcher had bothered to study before he retreated to the bar, ”They truly give the sense of what it was like back then.” Vampires being hunted and all. Though vague, Giles had picked up on a few references in the texts among the civil war documentation in particular. Times didn’t change as much as people thought they did. Needless to say, he didn’t want to give the young girl the impression that he was researching the occult. As the coffee was set down in front of them, Giles gingerly took his cup in his uninjured hand and sipped it black, as he normally did. It was a touch bitter, but that was what he needed to clear his head. Coffee had always made him tense and alert. And he had been consuming a lot more of it lately than he normally did. It was probably a vicious cycle. ”Oh,” Something suddenly clicked in his mind, ”Gilbert. That was one of the names that came up. One of the first families to settle here, isn’t it?” He had particularly remembered the name because the documents he found somewhat suggested that Johnathan Gilbert might have been a hunter. If Elena knew her history, it was a possibility that she knew more about the Mystic Falls vampires than Giles had first given her credit for. +++ TAGS: Elena WORD COUNT: 562 NOTES: Little does he know… lol.

- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -She smiled her standard 'Elena' smile at the man she now knew as Giles. "Please call me Elena. I hear Miss. Gilbert and I immediately start looking around to see where one of my teachers are." She told him with a laugh. "So people call you by your last name huh? That's usually something that only athletes do...not that you couldn't be an athlete or anything er…uh...it's just...yeah...please ignore me, I tend to ramble about weird things..." She stated, trailing off at the end. Wow, way to put your foot in your mouth Elena, she thought to herself with an inner eye roll at her random comments.
She nodded in quick succession when the older man commented on the lack of thoughtful material within the educational system before giggling a bit at the thought of being a high school librarian. "As much as I like to read and write, I'm not sure I could handle being a librarian...I bet that was an adventure. Did you shush people when they got too loud in the library?" She asked with a wink, hoping she didn't offend him.
Her smile dropped however when she heard the man mention Elijah. "E-Elijah?" She asked, a stutter forming where she usually had none. "Elijah Mikaelson by chance?" She asked, her 'strange' radar going off in her head. The last time Elijah had spoken to anyone about the records that they kept in Mystic Falls it was her aunt Jenna and he had been the one searching for the ancient witch burial ground for when Klaus needed to do his ritual. As much as she respected Elijah there was still a fine layer of distrust with him as well since there had been several times he had crossed the line to help his brother when really he should have helped them.
Just the thought of what Elijah was doing now worried her. What else did he need to know about this town…then again…what was Giles truly researching that would warrant Elijah getting involved? She wondered if this man knew more about the things in this town than he led on and if she got any more clues than she had she knew she’d have to ask him point blank about it…however that time hadn’t quite come yet.
She nodded her head slowly when he asked her if her family was one of the founders. "Yes we are...we...my adopted parents are at least. I'm technically from the Petrova family as I was adopted by the Gilberts...but yes the Gilberts are one of the founding families." She told him...wondering if he would find her comments weird. She knew that if he really did know what was going on the last name 'Petrova' would spark something in him and maybe he would ask...but until then she would just have to keep an eye out.

Giles allowed himself to laugh a bit out loud, not so loud as to cause a pounding in his head, but not one of his typically reserved chuckles either. But it was all in a good nature fashion. He found her rambling to be a lot like when his Slayer did such things, and it just struck him as funny and charming, ”Well, I did use to fence.” That and rugby in his youth were the only sports Giles had ever really had an interest in. But he continued with the real reason everyone referred to him as Giles, ”People actually call me that because my first name is Rupert. They find it too old-fashioned and British, I suppose.”He smirked when she said being a librarian must have been an adventure, and said half under his breath, ”You have no idea.” And as she asked if he had to quiet people, Giles shook his head a bit, ”No, I’m afraid very few students came to the library. This was in southern California. No one has time for books there, it seems.” And even if they did, Giles had stocked the library shelves primarily with occult references books and old manuscripts that contained nothing that an average person should know about. He had helped the odd student with a book report or whatnot, but most of that information Giles relayed directly from memory and sent the student on their way. The watcher looked up from his coffee just in time to see Elena’s face fall. She asked if it was Elijah Mikaelson, and he tried to remember if he had picked up the Original’s last name. But unfortunately, he must have gotten there too late, since he didn’t remember being given a last name. But it seemed that this was an opportunity to see what exactly this young woman knew, if Giles laid out a proper set of signs. In the end, Giles lightly shrugged his shoulders, ”I can’t be positive, since I didn’t catch his last name, but it’s quite possible. He was tall, dark-haired, very well dressed. He had a very intriguing ring.” Depending on her reaction to the ring, the two could probably start to have a real conversation about what was going on. No matter the source, Giles’ power was through intellect and information, and the more he gathered, the more secure he could make himself and those he needed to protect. Giles, now sobering up a bit between the time and the coffee, listened to Elena’s explanation of her family, and when he heard the name ‘Petrova’, it gave him great pause. That was the name that Elijah had told him and Buffy was the doppelganger line. The girl whose blood created the dangerous species known as Hybrids. And it was quite possible that the doppelganger was the girl sitting in front of him right now. The watcher sat back in his chair, ”Oh dear. So, you…” Giles stopped himself. Perhaps the drink hadn’t worn off as much as he thought it had. He regained his composure and tried again, ”I certainly don’t wish to make you feel uncomfortable, but are you sure that this is safe location to speak further about such subjects?”+++ TAGS: Elena WORD COUNT: 359 NOTES: ~

- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -She couldn't help but laugh at the thought of the man in front of her fencing. Not because he didn't look like he could fence or that she thought fencing was funny, it was neither one of those thoughts that made her laugh...not at all. It was the fact that fencing was such a classic 'England' sport that it didn't surprise her at all that he could fence. She didn't know much about England being that she had never gone there and had never really taken the time to study it, but whenever she thought of the country she thought about accents, large older buildings with beautiful architecture...and fencing for some odd reason. Just the thought that an English man really did fence was something she found funny.
Hearing the reason why he went by his last name she nodded a bit, Rupert was a bit old and a bit too British for her tastes. “Who started calling you by your last name? I mean I doubt any of your colleagues did it so it must have been a student.” She reasoned absentmindedly. It would make sense though. Most teachers either called their colleagues by their proper names (I.E. Some teachers still called Ric Mr. Saltzman) and then some who were more friendly with some than others would call them by their first names. She just didn’t see an adult going up to this gentleman and announcing that he was going to call him by his last name because his first name was too old and British.
"I actually sort of figured that. I was sick a couple weeks back and went to the library to study thinking that I could hide away from my brother who attempted to keep me under lock and key because I was sick, yeah not so much. There weren't enough students in the library to hide out in so I was found fairly quickly." She told him, remedying her story a bit to not include her ancestor who Elena was her identical but eh, either way.
Hearing what Elijah looked like she nodded, narrowing her eyes a bit at him mentioning Elijah's ring. It had to be his daylight ring. Her last name and the fact that she was from the Petrova line seemed to ring a bell in his head as he asked if it was appropriate conversation to be had in the grill. Before she could answer Matt showed back up, handing her and Giles the two coffees. She took a sip before crinkling her nose. "Really? They are still having you put vervain in here?" She asked him, surprised that Klaus would allow this. Matt just winked at her before walking away. Ahhh, so apparently no one knew he did it.
“Sorry about that.” She told him, reaching to the back of the booth and grabbing several packets of sweet and low before shaking them into her coffee. “Anyway, as for the answer to your question, yes, it’s safe. Unfortunately a lot of the townspeople know about certain things.” She stated, still refusing to say the term vampires until he did first. “And as long as we keep our voices down we should be fine. Hell the mayor and the sheriff both know so really, even if someone did hear us, what are they going to do?” She asked with her eyebrow raised.

It was curious and somewhat interesting that Elena asked who started calling him Giles. He had been called by his last name for so long now that he automatically gave it in introductions. Ten years ago, he certainly would have given his name as Rupert, but the Sunnydale gang changed that. Giles couldn’t quite remember, but he assumed it was Buffy that started the trend, while Willow, Xander and the rest followed suit. He nodded in reply, ”Yes, it was a group of students, actually. They were the only ones to frequent the library.”Giles gave a soft smile at her story of her brother retrieving her from the library, ”Under lock and key? You mean that figuratively, I hope?” His tone was unmistakably kidding, but the watcher did think it was very sweet that she had such a loving family. It reminded him of his own ragtag group that made up the Scoobies, in certain ways. Giles could imagine Buffy and Xander playing out a similar situation, especially when they were the same age Elena was. Before Giles could inquire further into the security of the area, their coffee arrived, and Elena mentioned something called vervain. Gingerly tasting his coffee black, Giles also made a bit of a face as the plant’s taste wasn’t quite covered by the coffee. He had studied vervain, or verbena in some texts, mostly as a potion ingredient, and although there had always been a mystical tie to the plant, just like wolfsbane or ash trees, he had never really seen just the plant being used on its own to ward against evil. He would have to ask Elena further about it. ”I’m not so concerned about the average townsperson as opposed to these hybrids that Elijah spoke to my organization about,” Giles unwittingly began to scan the area. Although, he wasn’t sure what it would do, considering he had no idea how to identify these hybrids, ”When he came to us, it was to ensure that we would not attempt an attack on his family, save this Klaus figure. He then explained the hybrids to us and we concluded that unchecked, they could prove to be a great danger, not only to our ranks, but perhaps the world.”The watcher picked up his red notebook. Even if he was a bit tipsy at the moment, Giles knew a good opportunity when he saw it, ”If you are completely certain this area is safe, I see no reason to be cryptic about the matter at hand. I also believe we can help each other. For a good majority of my career, I’ve only had to worry about one species of vampire. Now it appears that multiple kinds of vampires, werewolves, demons… and many other things existed beyond what my research initially included. I need to expand my base of knowledge, and, if I’ve interpreted what Elijah told us correctly, you may want assistance in defeating Klaus.””The references at the library have actually been quite thorough about some occult history, but not all,” Giles motioned to his coffee, ”The vervain, for instance—I’ve read that it’s used to ward away vampires, but the texts are not clear on the true effects. Really, anything you would be willing to tell me about the supernatural species here would be very much appreciated.”+++ TAGS: Elena WORD COUNT: 556 NOTES: Research mode engaged... lol.

- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -She laughed at the thought of a group of students choosing to rename their librarian by his last name. She wasn't sure why she found this so funny but she did. She had a feeling that this particular group of students were more than just students to the former librarian but it was no business of hers so she chose not to pry. While Elena had always been extremely curious (sometimes too curious for her won good) she also knew the importance of boundaries as well as the need for personal space and tried as often as she could to respect both.
Giggling at the question she nodded. "Definitely figuratively speaking...then again he did one time literally lock me in the house. He was worried about me because this guy wouldn't leave me alone and I didn't want to listen...I wanted to go visit my boyfriend and wouldn't listen to anyone telling me to wait until they found the guy who was stalking me...so when I tried to leave he and my best friend decided to lock me in the house. It too quite a few of them to pull that off but it worked." She stated with a shrug, changing some of the minor details such as Bonnie technically locking her inside her house with a spell rather than any sort of lock but eh, it didn't matter. The overall situation was fairly similar.
She smiled sympathetically at the face that Giles made about the coffee before handing him sugar and cream. "I know, you can still taste it. Some can and some can't." She stated with a shrug. "However it protects from vampires compelling you so I figure a bit of off tasting coffee is a small price to pay." She explained. "As for the hybrids, most of them are gone for the moment. Klaus usually has them out doing his bidding of some sorts...though that doesn't mean that there aren't a few around somewhere. The only one I know on a personal level is Tyler...I grew up with him. He's a good guy and wouldn't hurt any of us or anyone we know on purpose. Unfortunately he's 'sired' to Klaus meaning that the sire bond that is within him forces him to do Klaus' bidding if Klaus uses the bond against him." She explained, knowing she would probably have to go a bit more in depth about the situation but leaving it at that for now.
Elena looked around the grill, trying to see if she saw any of the original family. Seeing none of them she turned back to the elder man seated next to her. "Well right now none of the original family are here. I'm not sure if he told you about them but there are 5 of them in town right now including Elijah." She told him before counting off on her finger as she explained a little about each original family member. "You've already met Elijah so I won't go into detail on him. Klaus is a handsome man with an accent that he loves to use to get his bidding done. Finn is fairly awkward and tends to keep to himself. Kol is a trouble maker, he almost has a 'naughty little boy' look to him and will do anything to anyone if he's bored. He doesn't usually listen to orders that Klaus gives so all in all I'd say he would be the most dangerous besides Klaus. Rebekah is the only girl and she's not my biggest fan. She's a blonde bombshell with an accent as well. She listens to whatever Klaus tells her to do so anything that he wants, she usually spearheads."
Realizing she had missed something she tilted her head to the side. “What organization?” She asked curiously.

”Oh.” That was certainly a bit of a shocking story, even if Giles was beginning to understand that this was no ordinary girl he was speaking to. But he could understand the motives of her friends and brother to a certain extent, and it sounded like Elena understood as well, at least in retrospect, ”That sounds much more serious than a cold, though.” And he would have added that he was sure that those involved were only trying to keep her safe, but he had a feeling she already knew that on some level. The buzz from the alcohol was starting to wear thin and common sense was coming back to him. He wasn’t sure if he was going to have a hangover in the morning, or if a headache was going to come on right now. To quell the after effects of his drunkenness, Giles poured one packet of sugar and a bit of cream into the coffee and took a long drink from his cup. It helped, but the earthy taste remained. Although, it kind of gave it a bitter tea like flavor, which Giles didn’t mind the more he sipped on the drink. And as Elena explained exactly what it did, he considered starting the practice of taking vervain with his tea and setting Buffy and the other Slayers on the same regiment, particularly if they were to remain here. He recalled Dracula doing similar compulsion techniques when he arrived in Sunnydale, and Giles did not need his Slayers undergoing anything like that. The watcher continued to listen intently, trying to dissect what he needed from everything that Elena was saying. It was good to know that the Hybrids posed less of a threat than Buffy felt they were, though the Slayer’s suspicions about a sire bond were more or less confirmed. Though she had put a personal spin on things, saying that someone she had known had been taken and turned, ”That must be difficult.” The watcher slightly nodded his head in sympathy. Her explanation of the Original family left Giles a bit dumbfounded though. The way she was describing them was more like how one would describe a band. Most of it was still valid information that Giles would certainly use, but it hadn’t been exactly what he was looking for. What she had said only confirmed that the Originals were people to watch carefully. He folded his hands in front of him on the table, ”And if we were forced in a position where we had to stop one of the Originals—do you know of a way one can do that?”Giles let a moment go by after Elena inquired further about the organization he belonged to. That would be a long conversation, but he supposed that he still needed to sober up a bit more before he could head back to Richmond. ”The Slayer Organization. I suppose you don’t know what a Slayer is, so I can explain. Born in every generation, a girl is chosen to fight the evils of this world and is given certain powers to aid her in the battle. The organization finds these girls and trains them, if they so choose. I head the Watcher’s Council, which heads the research and assigns mentors to the potential Slayers. Over the past few months, we have established several locations for study and training, but the amount of supernatural activity here is too much to just ignore. And if the dangerous entities here prove to be a threat to the world, it is our responsibility to stop them.”+++ TAGS: Elena WORD COUNT: 598 NOTES: ~

- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -Nodding her head she tried to think of the best explanation of how the whole white oak ash thing happened. "Well, technically there are two ways to stop them. You can either put them into a supernatural based coma so to speak or you can kill them." She told him before going into a bit more detail. "In order to put them into a supernatural based coma you have to have a iron dagger dipped in the ashes of an old white oak tree and plunge the dagger into their heart. As long as the dagger remains inside their heart they will never awaken. Unfortunately there is so little white oak ash left that it's incredibly difficult. Also the dagger itself won't work on Klaus because he's both vampire and werewolf so it won't work." She told him morosely before remembering that she still had more to explain.
“Which leads me to my second explanation, how to actually kill them.” She told him brightly before laughing, clearly not speaking as she normally would but knowing that it wouldn’t make a difference either way. “In order to kill them it takes a stake made from the old white oak tree. Unfortunately as far as we knew there was only one stake and it was destroyed. When the originals were first turned into a vampire they found ways that kept them from being truly immortal. According to Rebekah who was the one who told me this, because of the way that they were turned nature fought back in order to keep them from truly becoming immortal. For every strength there was a weakness. The sun became their enemy, so of course they devised a way around that with the daylight ring with the help of their mother who was the witch who caused them to turn into vampires in the first place. The flowers at the base of the white oak tree burned and prevented compulsion, which were the vervain plants. The spell that was done to turn them used part of the white oak tree to give them immortality, but it was that same white oak tree could take it away. So they burned the tree to the ground, making sure that they would be forever immortal."
She remembered in detail the story that Rebekah had told her and continued. “The witches gathered up the ashes from the white oak tree and those are the only ones still in existence as far as we know.” She told him before listening to what he said about the slayer line.
“Why have we never heard of slayers before? I mean Damon and Stefan haven’t mentioned them so I’m just curious as to why it seems that not everyone knows about them?”
