Getting out of Mystic Falls was one of the smartest and admittedly cowardly things she had done in awhile. But Stefan playing Ripper as Klaus' little errand boy was enough reason to haul her polished tail out of dodge. She hadn't gotten far before the boredom sunk in; and if Damon took her up on her inspired coffin-nabbing, it would pay to be close enough so he couldn't lose nerve before she came strolling back. So Richmond it was, despite the rather dry nightlife she had managed to find a shudder inducing 'all ages club'. Immediately, Katherine sauntered to the bar, buying a bottle of Japanese wine and what could be called clean glassware. The driving bass line thrummed her body, creating a false heartbeat as her hips began to sway and move to the siren's song of Top 40.
Hundreds of establishments blurred into obscurity into her mind to one singular vision; shining lights, deafening music, the tang of alcohol and the slide of strange hands upon her skin. It was the same dull and tawdry affair but like an addict, Katherine couldn't seem to say no. Because with all the common there was the chance for something to happen; possibility the high she was really looking for. A toned neck to slide her fangs into, a strong pair of hips to drive against her own; it didn't matter what kind of something there was, as long as it drowned out the centuries of Never Enough in a cresting wave of Decent for Now.
Gliding over to the VIP section, Katherine didn't even waste the compulsion on the hired help. Batted lashes, pouty lips, flirtatious smile and come hither eyes gained her entrance without the extra effort. Finding a plush booth with remarkably cozy couches, Katherine reclined, picture of painted Goddess spread out in reverie. With a quiet hum of appreciation, the wine was poured into her glass; a gentle spin of her wrist to set the rich liquid to swirl and cling to the walls of the bowl as the scent of plums and burning libation sang in her nose. Bringing the glass to her lips, Katherine took another appreciative inhale before the slow seduction of the first delicate sip. Another coo, before looking over the crest of the glass. A sensualist with her Takara, Katherine eyed the crowd for potential fun.
Someone, anyone to drive the memories of captivity and betrayal away would be fantastic. And if she was lucky, the Salvatore brothers straight out of her mind as well. Beggars couldn't be choosers, after all; but if something entertaining didn't happen soon, Katherine made up her mind to start her own fun...

So honestly, Caroline didn't know what had caused her to venture out to the Underground. She had been asked by several of the cheerleaders on her team and had accepted the offer. Usually she tried to stay away from shady establishments such as this one. Generally she hung out at the Mystic Grill back in her hometown, and the falls of course. The falls had been host to many of the town's best parties, other than those held at the Lockwood Estate. However after the couple of weeks she'd been having lately, a change of pace sounded quite welcoming. However considering the club she was still going to watch her guard. She could protect herself just fine, though she still liked to watch her own back.
So much had happened lately that she felt like she needed to just get out and have some fun. They had lost Stefan to Klaus, he had turned his humanity off and turned into the Ripper. The Ripper was his alternate personality; one that couldn't be reckoned with and scared even her. Luckily he hadn't hurt any of the members of their circle, though he had killed countless bystanders. Then she'd also been forced to break up with Tyler. She hadn't been able to trust him, due to his sire bond with Klaus. All of it gave her a headache. On top of all this, she'd run into Klaus just last night.
It had been a normal friday night at first. She'd gotten dressed and headed up to the Grill, hoping for something to do. She'd run into him and he'd sat at her table. The two of them began drinking together. Not because she had wanted to drink with him, but because she couldn't stand him otherwise. The alcohol hit her hard and one thing led to another and before she knew it, the two of them had kissed. She despised herself for even allowing such a ridiculous thing to happen. He was freaking Klaus for god's sake, and she had kissed him. After they kissed she had of course tried to make a quick escape.
The next morning she'd thought about what she'd done, and felt terribly. For her own sake she hoped none of her friends found out. If they did, she would never live it down. Hell they might even question her alliance. Kiss or not, she still wanted nothing to do with Klaus. She hoped that if they ever should find out that they'd understand. Caroline was kind of a lightweight when it came to alcohol, and it had effected her immensely.
All of her girlfriends parked outside and then entered the club. Immediately she liked the atmosphere. Though it still kind of seemed shady, the music and the lighting was great. Everyone looked to be having a great time dancing and drinking. All of them moved to the bar and grabbed a drink. She hadn't even needed to use her compulsion, the bartender hadn't even asked any of them for identification. As they sipped on their drinks, a couple of girls went off to dance. Caroline had intended on going with them, until she spotted a familiar face off in the distance.
Katherine.
Immediately her smile faded away from her pretty face. She yelled to the girls that she'd catch up with them in a minute. Taking another sip of her drink, she began heading over to the V.I.P section where Katherine was. Pushing past a crowd full of people surrounding it, she got in easily and made her way over to her sire. "Katherine. What the hell are you doing here?" she asked nastily. "The last time I checked, you'd run for the hills. Now your here, less than ten minutes away from Mystic Falls? Why?" Her voice was definitely not friendly, and she didn't care one bit. Katherine had been the one to turn Caroline into a vampire. She had only done it to hurt her friends, and because she'd been angry with Damon. Caroline had been treated by her as a casualty and nothing more. So it was needless to say that the two of them definitely weren't on friendly terms.[/blockquote] Tag: Katherine/Open Word Count: 698 Outfit: Click!Notes: Sorry this was so long. Well, this is what I'm talking about…
The wicked grin that curled Katherine's lips could only be described as diabolical, and in a heartbeat flittered away. Blinking up coyly through her eyelashes, she tilted her head to the right as her left hand still cradling the glass floated down and to the side waist high. Her right came up, index finger tracing over the blood red stain and lacquered lower lip, teasing the sensitive flesh in a play of feigned curiosity and innocence. This was exactly what she needed, a visit from her favorite little message; picking at Caroline was one of those subtle pleasures one really needed to enjoy. She let the weight of a pregnant pause thrum for about a second or two too long, merely sizing up the hiccup of a vampire with the playful callousness bourne of disillusioned sadism.
"Caroline… A pleasure, as always. I'd offer you a drink but well…"
Katherine gestured with her left arm before bringing up the wine glass to take another sedate sip. Clearly, there was one glass. Clearly, she had spread sideway upon the couch taking up all of the room and lounge in seductive supplication. It was deliberate and it was hard to tell, even for Katherine, if the 'invitation' was real or not. Taking a slow deep breath, she placed the glass down and fixed Caroline with a pointed look.
"I didn't feel like playing lip service to Klaus anymore. Silly me, constant torture just didn't fit into my schedule the way it used to. And with Stefan gone all Rip, well it was all I could do but stay nearby to help. Plus they have my favorite label."
Her eyes went icy for a moment, tone dripping with the typical cadence of the first Petrova Doppleganger. It wasn't as though she hated the girl; to admit that meant she would have had to have mustered feelings up for her in the first place, let alone to that intensity. In fact, given the right amount of molding, Caroline could actually be kind of fun. Now, that could be interesting; not to mention it would help her case in the end. Changing her mind and changing her game. This was the beauty of being flexible at it's finest. With a soft sigh, and a shake of her head Katherine attempted to catch Caroline's gaze. She put the lightest strand of compulsion into her words, tone actually mild for the first time all night. It was worth a try. And if it didn't take, whatever. It wasn't as though she had anything really to lose at this point.
"Have a seat, Caroline. You look as though you need some Girl Talk."
Sliding up to sit properly, legs coiled beneath her a picture of Lilith and the Serpent, Katherine gestured to the side. Chestnut waves tumbled over her right shoulder as she snapped to the local help and gestured for another glass. It didn't matter that Caroline had her own drink. She would get a glass of the sweet plum wine. It served her purpose, for now, to play goodie goodie. And Katherine felt like sharing, so she would have a glass. Maybe if she acted empathetic and played the game, the Brothers would believe she really did turn over a new leaf. Damon was close enough to believing her capable of decency, anything at this point to get his gaze off of Elena and back where it belonged. Just because she didn't want him, didn't mean someone else could have his attention…
She was 'trying', and from the outside it appeared as though Katherine genuinely wanted to play nice. Who knew, she might even decide to care by the end of it...

As she saw Katherine sizing her up it made her slightly annoyed. She knew how Katherine looked at her. Like a dumb little girl turned vampire, naive and defenseless. That may have been true when she'd first been turned. Even Caroline had to admit, she'd been a shallow bitch when she was human. Insecure and even neurotic at times, being called crazy by the masses. However since she'd turned she'd changed immensely. She was a much stronger woman these days. Not only physically, because that was obvious, but mentally and personally as well. Overall she felt like even though she wasn't truly a person...she'd become a better non-person than when she'd been alive. More feisty and independent, like the girl she'd been when she was very young, before pure pressure and the stress of a teenager's life had taken her over.
She held her own drink in her hand as Katherine did, though higher to where her arm was bent at the elbow. She had been forced to carry it this high when moving through the crowd for she feared she would have it knocked out of her hand. Now that she was stable and no longer in motion she lowered it to her side. "Don't patronize me" she spat back to the older vampire. She was surprised at even herself for how ballsy she was being. If she wanted to, Katherine could rip her heart out in a moment. The other vampire was half a century old whereas Caroline hadn't even been a vampire for a year. She had proven to be quite strong for her age, even able to toss Damon across a room out of pure anger. However even Damon was no match for Katherine.
As the other vampire's emotionless eyes met her own, she noticed the intensity that was only present when using compulsion. Well at least, when one was trying to use compulsion. Her head tilted to side as a disapproving look approached on her features. "I've been drinking vervain, Katherine. We all have. So nice try." Her words were very pointed as her tone of voice became nastier with each phrase. She didn't appreciate Katherine trying to use compulsion on her, not one bit. She was not going to treat Caroline like that. Especially after all she'd already done to her, suffocating her and forcing her into the life of a vampire without allowing her any choice in the matter. Shifting her weight from one hip to the other, she finally decided to take a seat. She sat down next to Katherine, though kept her distance, and crossed her legs since she was wearing a dress. "But I will sit, these heels kill me every time" she said matter-of-factly. Taking a sip of her drink, she watched as Katherine ordered them both a glass of wine. When the waitress handed Caroline hers she simply sat it on the table in front of them. For right now she would drink her own until it was finished, which it was about halfway there right now. She wasn't sure what kind of game Katherine was trying to play with her but she was determined to find out what she was up to. The Katherine that they all knew and hated was not a nice woman. She didn't invite people for "girl talk". No, the other vampire was definitely up to something. She had to be, it didn't make sense for her not to be. Caroline knew firsthand just how evil Katherine could be. She had smothered her in her sleep, while she was ill in the hospital. She hadn't ever felt a bit of remorse for taking the young girl's life or anyone else's for that matter. She definitely had a plan, Caroline just had to find her angle. Katherine sighed, a tick of her patience whittling away under Caroline's incessant teenaged angst. It seemed spending all that time in Mystic Falls supernatural clique had given her kitten a pair of self-righteous claws. And while that was fantastic for her survival skills, using them on one's Maker wasn't just stupid but tacky. Taking a severely brusque sip of her wine, Katherine had to mentally reminder herself not to slap her silly in public. It would ruin everything in a handful of ways; ripping the tenuous preternatural masquerade being one reason, another the purpose of this exercise in apparent futility. Fine, hardball it is…
"I'm not. Just because you don't like me, doesn't mean I'm not being genuine. I didn't peg you for the judgmental type."
Drawing in an unnecessary breath, Katherine shifted in surprise as Caroline actually took up her offer for a seat. It was begrudging, it was almost a flashing neon sign waving over her head spelling out her nigh coercion. But she still sat. Progress… Katherine let her eyes fill with delighted surprise, an honest smile curving her lips as she raised both hands at her comment. One palm out in obvious surrender, the other to finish the last swallow of sweetened plum. "Didn't think you'd take me up on it. Honest." The smile on her face turned into a delighted smirk that hadn't existed on her face since Pearl's death. Weaving her legs together and under her to showcase the nigh sewn on denim, Katherine eyed the black stilettos with an appraising gaze. They weren't cheap, and she could get behind that. Half the problem most girls had was shuffling around in cheap heels, tearing up their feet and looking ridiculous. But no child of hers was going to be a disaster in pumps, it was just unacceptable.
"Break them in at home, never wear them for the first time out. Crush up two aspirin in your blood, helps with coagulation too without tasting vile. Unless you like the anti-coag the hospital puts in of course. Small steps, sway your hips. Heel to toe in anything but those daggers, then just toes. And teething gel works wonders, ask any Queen."
Grabbing the bottle of Takara off the table, she refilled her glass with a roll of the wrist, catching the last few drops from spilling everywhere or splashing out of her glass. Replacing the container with a gentle, almost respectful care onto the glorified coffee table before them; she stared somberly at the wine. Eyes lost for a moment, thinking too hard about things that could have, and should have. A moment of vulnerability with the Salvatores flashing behind normally flint hard eyes. Be it an honest connection or another way for Caroline to believe her, even Katherine couldn't tell anymore.
"… How bad is he, honestly?"
The quiet tones were subdued and almost dreamlike in their request. A cadence more commonly found in her younger counterpart as opposed to the five hundred plus vampiress. She let the question hang there, in a pregnant silence. The subject could have been either of them really; Stefan's rampage with his new Original best friend, or Damon's ability to keep it together and handle all of the blowback, adding to it Elena's obvious dismissal of his very obvious devotion. Katherine stilled, allowing the unnatural stillness of a vampire solidify her limbs to help brace for hopefully some sort of an update. Heartless bitch she may be, happily most days. But what she realized as a unwitting recipient to Klaus' sadistic ministrations was true. The weight of it pulling her shoulders back and tightening a fraction near her eyes. Their weakness really was love in the end.
Damn it all, I don't want to care anymore… Don't think. Don't bother… Just let it go. You have to, Katerina…

Caroline knew all about the fire in Katherine's eyes. She was very old and very powerful, but stupidly Caroline felt safe in such a public setting. She knew she shouldn't but she really just couldn't help it. Katherine had been known to snap a girls spine during a party at the Lockwood's house, so what was different about this setting? Nonetheless she stood her ground for the moment. In the distance she noticed her friends waving her over to them so they could all dance together. She lifted her hand and gave them the finger that told them it would just be a minute. Honestly she didn't plan on talking to Katherine for long, she had just been curious as to why she would come back. Klaus was still in town, as were the rest of his family. It surprised her to see Katherine back in town so soon.
She rolled her eyes at Katherine's next comment. It was something she regretted as soon as she had done it. It was simply habit, she rolled her eyes at everyone. Hell she had been as ballsy to roll them at Klaus just the other night. But for the moment she didn't want to think about the night with Klaus, not just yet. "Sorry if I'm a bit unwilling to believe that the person who smothered me in my sleep is being genuine." Another ballsy statement; she should really watch how she spoke to this vampire. Even if she had been having a bad couple of nights she wasn't really in the mood to have her heart ripped right out of her chest. For the moment, she decided she would play along.
The other vampire seemed surprised that she had even sat down, which surprised Caroline in turn. She was not only surprised at herself for agreeing but also with Katherine for thinking that Caroline really had a choice. Honestly, she wasn't going to go against a simple request by this vampire, it just wasn't worth it. "Still not sure why I did, actually." Even though it was a snarky little remark she had meant it honestly and genuinely. More or less she was interested to know why Katherine was back and what her angle was. Besides, having a vampire like Kat on your side definitely was a bad thing. Unless, you know, she stabbed you in the back. Which she was actually known to do... It was odd that Katherine was speaking to her as if they were friends. Or more so as if they were friends, or she was Caroline's mentor of some sort. She had been the one to kill Caroline, but she had transitioned because of Damon's blood so Katherine wasn't her maker. Still, it was definitely odd for her to be lecturing her like this. "I don't mind the stuff the hospital uses. I mean you can definitely taste it, it's pretty bitter actually. I've grown used to it though." Before she had spoken she had nodded her head in response to the talk about wearing the heels in. She had been wearing heels her entire life so she hadn't particularly needed to hear it. Still, the tips might come in handy some day so she stored them in the back of her mind for the moment. She sat back and relaxed a bit before taking a long drink and placing the near empty glass onto the table. It hadn't been very full to begin with, that was how clubs like this made so much money. "Anything is better than the rabbits and such Stefan tried to get me to eat. Animal blood literally tastes like cardboard." She said this with a small laugh, before the smile disappeared from her face. Thinking about Stefan saddened them all, though it definitely affected Elena the most of them all for obvious reasons. Next would definitely be Damon, of course. She had tried to push Stefan from her mind but was unsuccessful, hearing the other vampire ask about him. Her eyes slid to the floor as she pondered the question. While she thought about it, she took the glass Katherine had gotten for her earlier and filled it with the wine. She swished it around in the glass and took a small sip. "Gotta give you credit, it's delicious" she said taking another small drink. Leaning back against the couch ever so slightly, she turned to Katherine again, this time with a grim look on her face. "He's bad...really bad...I -- I don't know how we're going to get him back." With this, a painful look showed in her eyes. She truly hoped that Katherine would help as she knew that she really had loved Stefan at one point in her long lifetime.[/blockquote] Tag: Katherine/Open Word Count: 824 Outfit: Click!Notes: Sorry so long again. Katherine cursed under her breath; a surprising show of emotion that unfortunately seemed the norm since her captivity. The thought of Stefan being so much not the man she once loved, did love, struck through her in a violent cacophony. She knew Damon wouldn't and hadn't been handling it; he was always the more emotional and open of the pair of them. Her boys, her precious boys were lost and there was nothing she could do. Partly because of Elena. But as much as it pained her to admit it, it was partly her fault too.
A somber sigh escaped the elder vampire, eyes falling shut as her brow wrinkled up. There was nothing she could do, nothing in her usual repertoire at any rate. Without much ceremony, Katherine polished off the remaining bit of wine in her glass and truly looked at Caroline for the first time. This young hiccup of a thing, this sugar coated doll was mourning her Stefan just as deeply. Because her friend was wrong. And her other friend, the more selfish one at that, was hurting. Try as she may, Katherine understood Elena. One of the things that drove her to violence was just how very much she saw herself in the teenaged human. Not the Queen Bitch, not the Mistress of Manipulation. But the girl. The girl who fell in love. The girl who didn't want to die. The girl that was willing to give up anything to have her chance, even if it meant the sun.
Pushing her hair back off of her face, her hands gliding around her neck to lift the heavy tresses up. A nervous tick, as ideas flew past her eyes and rattled in her brain. Damn it all… She had to, she didn't want to but she had to. Sure, she would say it was for Stefan or Damon if push came to shove; but that wasn't the full story. She needed them, all of them in their insufferable human frailties and ridiculous grudges. Because she was alone. And it was beginning to be difficult to manage. Her voice was soft, refusing eye contact as her body held tight to the immortal stillness and emptiness that was her favorite security blanket. It was a gamble, showing this side to Caroline, and she was relatively certain the younger girl wouldn't trust her. But damn her heart if she could, her boys needed her...
"You need someone to distract Klaus. That way you can capture Stefan without him interfering and killing you all."
I cannot... believe... I'm doing this...

Although she was pretty sure she wasn’t supposed to hear the older vampire, she did. Caroline heard Katherine swear under her breath, muttering it too quietly for any human to be able to hear her. She hadn’t been sure of why she was upset, though she saw the pain in her eyes. Honestly she just expected that it had to do with Stefan and his current state. Caroline couldn’t blame her because she missed him too. Though they hadn’t always been too close, they’d been getting a lot closer lately. It definitely pained her to see him like this too. If she’d been able to help him she already would have. For right now they just had to prey for the best and cross their fingers.
The other vampire finished her drink and Caroline downed hers as well. Unfortunately for both of them the bottle of wine was now empty, due to Katherine polishing it off. It was no matter she didn’t particularly need the alcohol anyways. She was a lightweight and always had been, though she’d been drinking a lot more nowadays. It was senior year after all and no matter what was currently going on, she still needed to have some fun. Granted it would be a lot better with Tyler around. However, that wasn’t an option right now. He was off working out his issues, being bonded to Klaus, and she was stuck here without him. She had been lonely and it had taken a toll on her, causing her to nearly hook up with Klaus. If anyone found out about that, she didn’t know what she’d do.
Almost as if she could read minds, Katherine then mentioned Klaus. However it wasn’t in the way all of them usually spoke about him. No she was actually suggesting to use Caroline as a distraction to him. At hearing his name, she perked up immediately. All of her senses were alive, no matter how much noise surrounded her at the moment. Hearing Katherine’s suggestion, she rolled her eyes slightly. ”Well that shouldn’t be too hard…” she replied, her voice drifting off into the distance. On one level she knew that she shouldn’t trust Katherine with any information. However on the other hand, she knew Katherine was the only one she could tell.
A sigh escaped her lips and she looked off into the hoards of people in the club. It was a busy night tonight, which made her a bit on edge. She could hear all of their heartbeats, feel the blood flowing through their bodies. No matter how much she knew she wouldn’t do anything, how much she believed in herself, she couldn’t help but be bothered by it. It was always in the back of her conscious no matter how hard she tried to ignore it. Her eyes drifted to Katherine’s though the elder vampire wasn’t looking back at her. Although it was definitely embarrassing, it was vital information to the plan they were cooking up, so she decided to just come out and say it.
”The other night…I was at the Grill, and Klaus showed up…” she said with a gulp of nervousness. ”There was alcohol involved and well, we may..or may not have….made out” she told Katherine, her eyes widening at pure shock that she’d actually come clean about it. The young vampire sat there perfectly still, waiting for the berating attitude that would surely come from her fellow vampire. No one was more surprised at how well they were working together than Katherine. Sliding her legs out from under her, she shifted her weight to the right. Body language mirroring Caroline in a friendly yet completely conspiratorial way. Fingertip trailing over her lower lip, Katherine simply sat back and absorbed her younger contemporary's quick statement and immediate mood shift. Gazing up to inspect her face, Katherine could not stop her mouth from dropping open in surprise from Caroline's confession. A blink, a pregnant pause before Katherine shut her mouth and furrowed her brow.
Well I can say I wasn't expecting that one…
Taking a deep breath, Katherine had to contain the small squeal of glee from passing her lips. This was perfect on so many levels; Elena would have a pure conniption fight at the though of those two locking lips, and it was the exact in they needed with Klaus. The urge to tease her lasted almost a moment before Katerina's guilt swelled in her throat. If anyone could understand the self-imposed shame of being forward with someone you really shouldn't, it was the Bulgarian girl who get in a family way outside wedlock as a young teenager.
"Well, okay then. That means he trusts you, even if it's only a little bit. All the better for him to trust you completely when you hand deliver to him the one thing he's been searching for, for five hundred years." The small smile she offered wasn't as cold as any she had given the young woman before, if anything it was almost honest. And obvious where Elena's came from.
"You're going to give him Me. And while he's distracted, get Stefan home."

Seeing the look of pure shock on Katherine's face, Caroline couldn't say that she was all that surprised to see it. She was however a bit surprised at herself for telling Katherine, she hadn't thought that she would tell anyone. Why in the hell it'd happened to this particular vampire, she had no clue. Of course you could hack it up to being the perfect moment and opportunity, but other than that she wasn't sure. Now she only hoped that Kat wouldn't run off and tell everybody. If people found out, Caroline would not only be embarrassed but ashamed as well. Even now she couldn't barely stand to think about it without feeling utterly terrible about herself.
Shifting uncomfortably, she crossed her legs over her another knee and further away from Katherine. In the back of her mind she vaguely wondered what had happened to the friends she'd come here with, but decided not to fret. They were probably just having a normal teenage time dancing, not worrying about how they made out with a homicidal hybrid like she had. The young vampire bit her lip lightly as she thought about the other's statement, pondering for a moment. "Trust me? Probably not.." Caroline responded, her voice trailing off as she listened to the rest of Katherine's sentence. Previously she'd cut her off, but now she couldn't help but simply stare at her like a doe caught in the headlights.
Did Katherine mean what it sounded like she meant?
No, it couldn't be. Her eyes narrowed in on the other vampire as she waited for her to finish. When she finally came out and said it, she couldn't believe what she'd heard. She leaned forward closer to Katherine so that people couldn't hear them, uncrossing her legs and pointing her knees towards each other. "Are you suicidal? You know he's going to kill you, right?" Honestly she just couldn't believe that words that had come from the vampire's mouth. If there was anything that Katherine truly cared about, it was her own survival. Now she was willing to give herself up to save Stefan?
This brought her to another thought completely. Perhaps survival really wasn't the only thing she cared about. A serious look came onto Caroline's face as she looked carefully at Katherine, brown eyes staring into her fellow vampire's. "You really loved him, didn't you?" Obviously she was asking about Stefan, wondering if Katherine truly had loved him all along and they just hadn't believed her.

"Trust me, Klaus promised a good thousand years of torture first. Double how long I ran. Gives us plenty of wiggle room." Katherine's voice was only a touch bittersweet; dry and light, a white wine timbre compared to her normal merlot. The words were there, the cadence was the same as usual. But the inflection, the emotion, held a tinny quality that rang in her mind and ears. "It's only suicide if you all leave me to die. Well, murder then, if we want to be technical…" The small smirk she gave Caroline was one that Pearl knew well. Self-deprecating and sarcastic, a roll of her eyes at the end with a quiet little chuckle.
And then it happened.
Of all people, the woman she killed saw more of her than any of Elena's Entourage. She had even tried to tell her descendent herself, coming so far as to remind her it was okay to love them both. But it was Caroline, clever and surprisingly not that irritating after all Caroline who figured it out. The smile stayed on her face, if a little sad at the edges. It wasn't weakness but compromise, maybe this was what she needed to do for now. If the other woman was opportunistic she would take advantage of the vulnerability, something Katherine couldn't deny doing if the tables were turned. But the hand was dealt, and you played what you got.
"I loved them both. That was the problem."
Her voice was quiet, honest. She held eye contact, knowing that Caroline would assume she was hiding something otherwise. Self-serving and morally ambiguous didn't mean she was heartless. And it didn't mean she wanted Stefan to become something so alien, so corrupted. And hopefully Caroline would catch onto the tense of the verb in that sentence. 'Loved', past tense. Maybe if the little blonde bird twittered that fact into her bestie's ear, it would chill Elena out.

Caroline never thought she’d be in this situation in a million years. Although she was rather uncomfortable she tried her best not to show it. She nodded, her eyes thoughtful as she pondered Katherine’s idea. After a moment she came to a decision. It was honestly their best plan, if not their only. ”Yeah, I guess…but maybe I’d be able to help – maybe he’ll listen to me.” Now the young vampire felt herself trying to protect her elder, though she wasn’t sure why. Katherine had been the one to suffocate her while she slept, forcing her to transition. Nonetheless she felt herself sympathizing for the other vampire now, wanting to protect her if possible. The blonde’s deep brown eyes went wide, hearing the term murder. ”Honestly, you couldn’t say that you don’t deserve to be left…” she said unsurely, hoping she hadn’t just risked her life. The vampire averted her eyes quickly, looking down to her shoes. Within a moment she looked back up to Katherine, eyeing her closely. ”But I think we’d change our minds if you did this for us, for Stefan. I won’t let you die. At least, not by Klaus. Even If I have to stand between you two” she added with a light hearted chuckle. Honestly she kind of wished she hadn’t asked that question. Being Elena’s best friend, she didn’t like to hear about anyone else being in love with Stefan. However Katherine spoke about it as the past tense, so that was something at least. ”Right” she said distractedly, as if she should have already known this. In fact she had, just hadn’t thought about it recently. She didn’t particularly like to think about Katherine at all for obvious reasons. ”Anyways. When do you want to do this? I want to get it over with before I change my mind” she said with a forced frown. Not so much as forced as exaggerated, but still. Another roll of her eyes, amused instead of cruel, had Katherine chuckling under her breath. "I was joking Caroline. Surprisingly enough, it can if fact happen." Inside Katherine actually paused for a moment, truly taking in what the other woman thought of her. It was sobering at least, to see how much she had come from being Katerina. A few centuries ago, it may have hurt to have someone assume such horrible things about her. But time had long since calloused over those particular sensitivities. Besides, she had learn to love who she was. Even if she was the only one, at least it was something.
But when she mentioned genuinely not letting her die, Katherine blinked up at her. The 'Good Guys' never ceased to amaze her when they did that, the act of martyrdom endearing as opposed to annoyingly cliché. Even more since it involved Caroline doing it for her. A soft half-smile curved her lips as she nodded in response. "I believe you. And I appreciate it." But the moment passed, and Katherine settled back into the vampire they all recognized. Self-confident. Poised. Polished if aloof. The glimpses of her old self were happening a lot tonight, the wine obviously going to her head more than she thought it would. She couldn't take it back. She wouldn't now, anyway. A gallant shrug prefaced her words before Katherine caught her lower lip between her teeth in thought. Worrying the flesh for a moment before she finished formulating a plan.
"I can head back to Mystic Falls in a couple days. Dressed as Elena at first, of course. No sense tipping our hand too early. After a little recon, I'll make a big splash at the Grill. Subtlety out the window that you can lead Klaus right to. I can text you details, so you know what to tell Klaus. And once he's focused on me and not Stefan, you all get him home. Fixing him, I'm at a loss. But you can at least stop anymore damage from being done to him."
Pulling out her iPhone, Katherine waited for Caroline's number, intrigued at how numb her lips had become from the wine and how warm the weight of her hair was on her back. Plum wine always did go to her head, the rush from the potential of this dangerous liaison adding to the thrumming in her head and spinning of her thoughts.
Next time, I'm just getting a glass…

Caroline hated to admit it, but this side of Katherine wasn't so bad. It was one that wasn't cruel, one that actually cared about someone else than herself. It was surprising to see but nice as well. She could get used to it, though she knew it probably wouldn't last. "It is surprising. This entire night has been surprising, to say the least." As she said this, she looked past Katherine and out into the club.
People were still writhing into each other, some so close that Caroline didn't know how they could even breathe. Seeing people so close made her miss Tyler. She'd fallen for him hard and fast, and unexpectedly. However it also made her think of the other night with Klaus. They'd been quite close as well, making out before she even knew what was happening. She knew it'd been a mistake. Now, she could only hope that no one would find out about it. Of course she probably shouldn't have spilled her guts to Katherine about it, but she couldn't help it; it just came out. Sometimes she had the tendency to just blurt things out, a habit that she hoped someday she'd be able to hinder.
As she looked back to Katherine, she seen the genuine smile creep onto her elder's features. It was odd to be having such a pleasant turned conversation with her. She would still never forget that she'd suffocated her, turning her into the vampire that she was today. However she wondered if someday she'd be able to at least forgive her if nothing else, than for herself. To be able to move on from it. Instead of replying, she simply returned the smile and nodded. Nothing else truly needed to be said at the moment. They had come to a sort of truce at the moment, which would be kind of nice. Right now Caroline didn't need anyone else to worry about.
The blonde vampire listened carefully, recording everything the other vampire told her. All in all it seemed like it could possibly worked, if everything went according to plan. Granted it usually never did but still, it was definitely worth a shot. "Okay. Obviously i'll have to let everyone else in on the plan, but I think it'll work. Or at least, I hope it will" she said, her brown eyes unsure. If nothing else, it was worth a shot. For Stefan and for Elena, they had to at least try to do something. Watching as Katherine pulled out her phone, Caroline grabbed it from her, though not forcefully. As she took it she entered her own number in the vampires phone for her, before handing it back to her. "I should really get back to my friends..that's if they haven't left me already" she said with a small laugh. "But I'll be seeing you soon, hopefully everything will work out" she said, her eyes still unsure. With this she gave Katherine a small smile and stood up from the couch. After one last look, she made her way back onto the dance floor in search of her friends.[/blockquote] Tag: Katherine/Open Word Count: 541 Outfit: Click!Notes: This just kind of seemed like a good place to end it

Katherine merely watched as a slew of emotions danced on the younger woman's face. She remembered back when she could afford to be so cavalier about her feelings; when wearing her heart on her sleeve wasn't a death sentence. She was no Pearl, then again, who was really? But she was pleasant. And surprisingly fun; a drinking partner she wouldn't actually mind passing information back and forth with. With a mental nod, Katherine moved Caroline's nameplate from the white pawn to a matching rook; adjusting and modifying her mental chess match without any hesitation. And to think the other day, she was barely beneath her notice…
As she swiped the phone from her, Katherine chuckled softly. Honestly enjoying the normal interaction. When she passed it back, Katherine slipped her beloved iPhone into her jeans pocket. Meeting her small smile with one of her own, Katherine reclined back onto her perch.
"Have fun Caroline. I'll see you around."
She would stay here, the queen holding court for at least another hour. Maybe another drink, maybe another handsome man to flirt with. Idly, Katherine retrieved her phone to send a text to one of her newer projects. Maybe if she was lucky, he would even come out and play before she had to clock in...
