'Dangerous Liaisons'
Note: I'm a Stelena shipper...my reviews reflect that. So if you're a Delena shipper...may not want to read.
Previously on the Vampire Diaries… Did it really make sense to anyone that Damon was the one who said this? I don’t know I just feel like that wasn’t the smartest move. Stefan? Maybe Klaus? I guess it really doesn’t matter but still…just struck me as weird.
Matt and Elena at the hospital: Okay, Alaric’s in the hospital. That bites and I think it’s funny that he made Elena promise to change the locks on the house. I don’t know why I just feel that Matt acted suspicious during this time…but maybe it’s just me. As for them being watched…are we thinking it was Rebekah since she tries to kill Elena a few moments later…or are we thinking it’s the infamous Mystic Falls murderer? Not really sure.
Rebekah, Elena and Elijah: This scene was odd in my opinion. I like Elijah but why would he be following Elena (or Rebekah) around? It doesn’t really make any sense to me. Also, what car is Elena driving? She never got a new one after hers crashed in ‘The Turning Point’ and she was driving Jenna’s but Jenna’s is a Mini Cooper and this obviously wasn’t a Mini Cooper. Also it couldn’t have been Alaric’s because his SUV was blown up in ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ so whose car is it? Just curious.
Elena, Stefan and Damon in the kitchen: I think this is the first time Stefan has been inside Elena’s house since season 2. I don’t know I just feel like he fits there…a lot more than Damon. *Smirks*. He just looks comfortable there. Did anyone else see the look that Damon gave Stefan after he said ‘Is anyone else feeling a little used right now?’ I don’t know he just shot Stefan a look that I thought was weird. As for Elena believing Elijah, how many times can they all make the same mistakes? She’s believed him before and Elijah helped Klaus escape!? And Elijah has believed Elena before and she drove a dagger into his back. Why do they keep trusting each other? Doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me.
The originals getting ready for the ball: I really like Kol. I don’t know why but I just really like his character. Finn’s a bore in my opinion. Rebekah just makes me laugh, so does Elijah. And Klaus doesn’t seem at all big and bad with his family around. He was a lot more intimidating before the others were around.
Webclip: I think I’ve ranted about this webclip enough but I’ll just say this. Stefan saying that it was Damon’s job to care about Elena was annoying. Also why did Damon say that Esther already tried to kill Elena once? I don’t remember that from last episode (and it’s probably because I’m a blonde) but when did Esther try to kill Elena? Damon controlling everything is going to be DE’s downfall before they even get together, I can see that now. Elena has changed, even Stefan has noticed that. Back in the beginning she didn’t like when people made decisions for her, but now that she’s had to grow up a lot? She won’t stand for Damon ordering her around.
Caroline scene: I don’t really have a lot to say about this scene. A while back I was rooting for Caroline and Tyler…and now I’m just sort of blah when it comes to Tyler. I don’t know, I just don’t like him as a hybrid.
Elena and Caroline at the grill: Does anyone else think that Elena looks more like pilot Elena than she does in any other episode? I don’t know why but she looks younger in this scene to me. Either way it doesn’t really matter, just wondering if anyone else saw it. I love Elena’s comment ‘I need a drama free body guard’. Caroline’s comment also ‘I think a Salvatore would look a lot better in a tux…and by that I mean Stefan’ I love that Caroline is rooting for Stefan and Elena again, I’ve missed having a cheerleader for them. They need one. I didn’t like that Elena said she didn’t know how she felt about the Damon kiss yet. Don’t know why but that rubbed me the wrong way. It’s like ‘If you don’t know how you feel about a kiss that happened days or even weeks ago, that’s maybe a sign’. Rebekah asking Matt to the dance was almost a given in my opinion…who else was she going to ask? Didn’t really surprise me.
Exterior of the Originals’ house: Does anyone else wish they owned that house? I do (as long as it was paid off…furnished…etc.). lol. I couldn’t afford to furnish one room in that place.
Carol and Damon: God why don’t they just sleep together and get it over with? I get sick of their little encounters after awhile. Damon’s slept with everyone else, why not Carol Lockwood? Damon and Kol have totally met before. I have a feeling that’s going to be an interesting twist when we find out how…but oh yeah, they definitely know each other from somewhere.
Elena walking in to the ball: As much as I love Elena’s dress…I feel like she’s massively overdressed. I don’t know I just feel like there’s formal and then there’s wow formal….she’s definitely wow formal while everyone else is just formal. Damon’s look on Elena, he gives the same look to everyone with a pretty face and a nice body. Nothing really special there.
Stefan, Damon and Elena in the entry way: Stefan showing up first makes me laugh. It’s symbolic of how he’s always been there first. Damon being annoyed that not only Elena’s there, but Stefan’s there as well, makes me laugh. His petty little comment ‘Nice Tux’ yeah…he’s just jealous because Stefan looks better in one than he does. Usually I feel like Damon is reasonably hot…but in this episode I felt like he looked like Elena’s father rather than one of her ‘suitors’. I feel like that with their relationship recently as well. He’s treating Elena like he’s her father and she’s acting like the teenager who wants to do everything in her power to do the exact opposite of what he says. Elena taking Stefan’s arm and they look like they belong together. Then her taking Damon’s arm (and the difference is quite obvious) she looks like she’s annoyed she has to deal with him.
Caroline picking out a dress: I probably would have worn anything else other than what Klaus sent me…but I have a feeling she’s feeling a bit out of sorts with the whole thing as well so I understand why she wore it…(and as she noted later she didn’t have time to shop) but still…I would have worn something else just to stick it to him. Lol
Caroline and Klaus when she comes into the ball: I really started to like Caroline again in this episode. She seemed a lot stronger than she has over the past season and I feel like we’re starting to get a bit of season 2 Caroline back…which is something I’ve definitely missed. ‘Good Evening’ ‘I need a drink’. That just makes me laugh.
Elena and Finn: I just don’t like Finn. I feel like there is no depth there…no…anything really. He’s just sort of ‘blah’. Again with the whole ‘Esther trying to kill Elena’…I don’t get it! When did she try to kill Elena? Am I a blonde or did that never actually happen? I’m going to go back and re-watch the past few episodes but I’m really drawing a complete blank.
Elijah speaking: He’s just…*Sighs and stares* I love Elijah. I don’t trust him as far as I can throw him, but I do love him. ‘Do you see who I see?’ ‘Oh yeah’. Stefan is a lot better at being inconspicuous than Damon is. Damon’s like ‘look, point, stare’ Stefan is like ‘staring at the speaker, but noticing everything around you’. Yeah, I’m not biased or anything. *Says sarcastically*
Damon and Elena: Again, I feel like Damon’s controlling nature will be DE’s downfall. He treats her like his child, not like his equal. I have to give Stefan a lot of credit right here as he watched. If it would have been the other way, Damon would have marched over and fought over who got to dance with Elena. Stefan simply let it go because he knew that things had to stay drama free being that they could easily put Elena in danger with their fighting. However the look on his face was definitely hurt, it hurt him to see them together and I feel like he’s starting to realize (or admit) that he doesn’t want to see that.
Damon and Elena dance: I don’t know but Damon and Elena dancing feels so…forced in this one. I’ll admit they danced beautifully during ‘Miss Mystic Falls’…I still love that scene. However in this one it was forced, there was no chemistry there.
Caroline and Klaus dance: Okay, does Stefan, Elena, Damon, anyone know about the Klaus and Caroline thing because if it would have been my best friend dancing with him, I would have been a bit more shocked. It’s like ‘hello, this is the man who literally ruined my life, why are you waltzing with him?’
Stefan and Elena dance: The passion just in the look when they first end up in each other’s arms is outstanding. I’ve replied that scene probably fifteen times and I just can’t get over it. They just…fit together. ‘He dances…and I didn’t even have to beg’. Anyone think that Elena was planning on trying to dance with him by her saying that? I don’t know why but I feel like that’s where that shot was headed too. Every dance that they have ever gone too…they’ve danced together (other than the Miss Mystic Falls pageant)…and she’s never had to beg him (other than to show her how to show her how it was done in the fifty’s…which he still did). The smiles on their faces as they’re holding each other for the first time in months…they are almost blinding.
Matt and Caroline: I want them to get back together. I just love those two together. I was glad that Matt finally asked about Caroline and Klaus because it’s just way too suspicious to me that NO ONE has said a word about it.
Stefan and Elena dance continued: The tone of voice that Stefan is speaking to her with is the soft tone that I love. ‘It took you all of about 30 seconds to put Damon in the mood’ (does anyone else think he sounds a bit smug there? Love it.) ‘He’s just looking out for me’ ‘I think he needs to learn that you can look after yourself’. As they are walking away, are they holding hands? Sure seems like it to me but maybe I’m wrong.
Rebekah and Damon: Again?! ‘Nic gave her everything she’s wearing’…Damon doesn’t comment on that?! I just don’t get it! And the look Damon gives Rebekah when he says ‘you’re not such a dog yourself’…he looked at Elena the same way.
Stefan and Elena outside: I love this scene. It’s obvious that Stefan wants to say ‘No Elena, I care about you more than killing Klaus’…but he doesn’t…he sticks with his ‘No you’re not wrong, I care about killing Klaus more than anything’. (of course he admits later that he lied)…but still. Does anyone else have the sneaking suspicion that by the end of this season it’s going to come down to Stefan killing Klaus (and taking Elena with him) or allowing Klaus to go free to save Elena? I don’t know why I just feel like that’s going to be the end of this season and Stefan will prove everyone wrong. “I care more about you than anything in this world Elena, including destroying Klaus’. Not sure why but this scene just foreshadowed that for me. I could be wrong though. I disagree with what a lot of people are saying. Everyone says that it would be too soon for Stefan to tell Elena he loves her. Maybe too soon for Stefan, but Elena needs to hear it. How many times just in this episode did she give him the opportunity to even say that he cared. She needs to hear something…because the indifference is worse for her than the anger. When Elena starts to walk away you can tell Stefan is fighting every instinct in his body to let her go. It was the same way during ‘The Last Day’ when Klaus come. He fought every instinct in his body that was screaming at him to keep Elena safe, and yet he listened and let her go. It was the same way here. I definitely saw that parallel tonight. He couldn’t watch her walk away during either time and I definitely saw his fear for her, though it was buried deep.
Rebekah and Kol: This scene didn’t really surprise me. I knew there was an alternate reason for Rebekah inviting Matt… People keep asking if Kol is the youngest. I actually think that Rebekah is the youngest. She says ‘I was hoping you’d help your baby sister out’. Makes me think that Rebekah is the youngest (though I think technically Henrich before he was killed was the youngest), and then Kol. Who knows, I could be very wrong…it wouldn’t be the first time.
Damon, Stefan and Elena: Watching Stefan kill Damon gave me a sick sense of satisfaction. I like Damon as a character (sometimes) but I really enjoyed watching that. I think Stefan liked it too with that little smirk he gave Elena telling her she better hurry as he wouldn’t be down for long. But then he took a deep breath as she was walking away, I am interpreting that as again, he’s fighting all his instincts to let her walk away into something that could easily be a trap. I agree that Elena drew strength from the small nod that Stefan gave her, as he was giving his blessing though he didn’t like it.
Elijah and Elena: Why either one trusts the other I have no idea. It’s almost like they keep making the same mistakes over and over again. Just gets to me. Again though, I do love Elijah. He looks mighty fine in a tux.
Esther and Elena: I don’t trust Esther. Granted I don’t trust any of the originals, so that’s not really saying much…but something about this whole thing just feels…fishy.
Caroline and Klaus outside: ‘I fancy you…is that hard to believe’? I’m not a Klaus/Caroline fan so this scene was whatever to me. I just…I don’t know. Again though, I liked how Caroline stood up to him. She’s not simply backing down like she would have before, she’s staying strong, and I like that.
Esther and Elena: I also feel that by binding the originals together, it also bound Elena with them? I understand why it was her blood that was needed (being that it was Tatia’s blood that created them in the first place)…but still…that feels a bit off to me.
Kol and Rebekah: Those two just make me laugh. Their relationship just makes me giggle.
Stefan and Damon: “Easy buddy” that just made me laugh. And then he called him brother, again, I don’t know why but Stefan and Damon fighting always makes me smile. I like that more than I like them getting along half the time. Though I do enjoy watching them get along too. I didn’t like Stefan’s comment though “Exactly where she belongs, talking with Esther”…I would have liked it better if he would have said “Exactly where she wanted to be…talking with Esther.” I don’t know, I just…blah. “Maybe because you care too damn much.” Alright Stefan, shush. We know that Damon is acting like an idiot, but you care more than he does you’re just not admitting it…so stop.
Matt and Rebekah: I saw this scene coming. I knew he would do something sweet and then she’d stop her plan, so this scene didn’t surprise me.
Elijah and Elena: Yeah, Elena’s not a great liar. I would have seen right through her when she promised Elijah that what his mother was saying was true.
Klaus and Caroline: Klaus as an artist makes me laugh. He’s good, don’t get me wrong, but still. I don’t know, I just feel like he’s not so villainy anymore though obviously he is. Again, I’m not a Caroline and Klaus fan so this scene was blah for me. Though Caroline sticking up to him and walking away, loved it.
Rebekah and Kol: As soon as Rebekah said that she changed her mind, I knew that Kol wouldn’t leave it be. So the later scene didn’t surprise me.
Elena and Damon: Again with the forcefulness. It will be Damon’s downfall. Elena has changed in ways over the past season and she’s stronger. However even before that, she hated when people made decisions for her and hated when people told her what to do. Damon should know that by now. As for ‘tell me on the ride home’. Didn’t she drive herself? She walked in by herself? And I’m guessing that Stefan and Damon drove separately…so why would he be driving her home? I don’t know, that’s just weird to me. It seems that this show has a thing about cars. They leave their cars all over the place but then the next episode they are miraculously where they need them to be. ‘No I’m mad at you because I love you’ ‘Well maybe that’s the problem’. Bwahahahaha. Even though she tried to backtrack afterward I just had to laugh. I know a lot of people are mad at Elena for that comment but I loved it!!! Couldn’t have been better unless she would have said ‘And I love Stefan’…but I knew that wasn’t going to happen so this worked out well also!
Caroline wanting to know where Matt was: I love these two together and how much Caroline cares about him. It’s obvious that Elena’s thoughts were otherwise occupied but Caroline had been trying to keep an eye out on Matt pretty much all evening. Loved it.
Matt, Kol and Damon: I read so many things earlier about how ‘Damon was such a hero because he saved Matt’s life’…Wow…what a guy. He saved Matt’s life and then caused a huge scene by fighting with an original…what a guy. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad he saved Matt…but seriously…it was just…I don’t know. I didn’t see that as heroic, I saw that as a nice person. Not a hero.
Stefan, Damon and Elena in front of the originals: ‘Damon…are you crazy?’ ‘Maybe a little’. Yep, we’re going to get first season Damon back for awhile and to be honest, I like him better. I like him when he’s actually himself instead of trying to pretend that he’s not a Stefan substitute…because nothing can be better than the real thing. ‘Far be it for me to cause a problem’. The smug look on his face when he said that to Elena, was awful. It’s clear that Damon hasn’t grown at all. He’s still the same selfish guy he’s always been…he’s just been trying to hide it. I’d rather have him going around killing people than going around professing his undying love for Elena…because at least when he’s killing people, it shows who he truly is.
Caroline scene: Caroline calling Tyler. Again, I’m sort of over the whole Tyler/Caroline thing. The drawing that Klaus left was beautiful but I really hope she doesn’t fall for him. That will make things even more complicated than they already are.
Esther, Finn and Elijah: You can tell that Esther doesn’t want to destroy Elijah…but she knows she has too. It breaks my heart (well, it did until I saw previews for next week, then I was okay with it…but anyway)…I like Elijah and I’ll be sad to see him go but at the same time I agree with Stefan. The rest of the originals need to go too…if it takes down Klaus.
Stefan and Elena in the entryway: This scene just…*sighs* it makes my Stelena heart happy. Stefan simply walking into her house made me grin. Like he could have easily dropped her off at the door and walked away, but no, he came inside and talked to her…that’s not something we’ve seen recently and I was glad to see it. Not that I’m not happy, but why did he drive her home? Lol. I know they all three had their own cars…so now did they drive Elena’s car home and he left his? Or did he drive her home in his and she left hers? Who knows. ‘How’s that for mother of the year’. Love that line. Honestly if I ever made a graphic of Esther, it would probably say something along the lines of ‘Not your typical mother of the year’. Lol. I know it sounds cruel but I agree with Stefan about the rest of the originals being collateral damage. Klaus needs to die and if it takes all the others to kill him, so be it. ‘That family has brought you nothing but darkness, Elena…it is that simple.” Notice he didn’t say they ruined his life, they ruined everyone’s lives…no…he brought it back to Elena and noted they had brought her darkness. That shows to me that he’s not fighting against Klaus for his own need, it’s because of Elena. He’ll always protect Elena. ‘What was with him going after Kol?’ ‘Damon being self destructive. I said something that I didn’t mean’ ‘So did I’. God couldn’t he have said ‘I don’t care more about killing Klaus than you.’ It’s not ‘I love you, I need you’ It’s simply ‘I care’. I think she’d be happy with that right now. It’s obvious he does, but can he open his mouth and say it!
Stefan and Elena on the porch: You know I’ve read how all of DE’s stuff is the porch…you know Elena and Stefan have had a lot of porch talks too. There was like three conversations on the porch in the pilot alone, then their first kiss was on the Salvatore porch, Elena told him he couldn’t be together on her porch, he held her when she cried after finding out that Tyler and Caroline were a part of the sacrifice on her porch, etc. I think Elena and Stefan beat Damon and Elena’s porch time again. ‘Did you really not feel anything?’ I could feel her hopefulness in that question. She needed him to admit that he cared and yet he couldn’t say it. His eyes said it, his posture said it, but his mouth couldn’t…and she needs it. The tears in his eyes showed how much he felt when he told Elena to stop. But she pressed on. She’s always fought for him, but she’s not fighting for Damon (not that she would need to since he’s throwing himself at her) but still… how do people not see that? ‘Do you think I want to be this person, Elena? I hurt you. I bit you. And I hate myself for what I did to you.’ That speaks of Stefan’s character, more than anything. He’s in pain not because he killed people (though I’m sure that’s part of it), but no…he’s in pain because he loves her and he hurt her. ‘Then show it. Show something…Stefan because anything is better than trying to make me believe that you don’t care’. The way she gripped his face to try and get him to look at her, was powerful. Even the way that he started to be rough and push her away, but stopped himself and simply told her that ‘If I let myself care…all I feel is pain’. The look on her face is hopeless, but at the same time she realizes that Stefan is there…he’s right in front of her…he’s just hurting and I think she realizes that she’s going to have to be strong for him…because he needs that.
Matt and Rebekah: Wouldn’t vampire blood heal Matt’s hand? I mean maybe not but shouldn’t it? So why not say ‘I’ll offer you my blood in order to heal your hand?’. I felt awful for Matt when he said he found out that he doesn’t have health insurance. Poor Matt.
Rebekah and Damon: The sex scene was awful. I mean I understand that they’re vampires…but geez. I can’t imagine Elena being a part of Damon’s sex life. Every time we’ve seen a Damon sex scene, it’s been hard and violent…I can’t imagine Elena being a part of that. Just another reason why Stelena will prevail.
Overall thoughts: I think that this is probably one of my favorite episodes (if not my favorite) of this entire season, though that definitely has everything to do with the Stelena scenes in it. I think that the whole Caroline/Klaus thing as well as Rebekah are getting a bit too much screen time, but that’s because I’m not a huge fan of either storyline. Anyway, loved this episode…the Stelena scenes cinched it for me.
