'Bring Out The Dead'
Note: I'm a Stelena shipper...my reviews reflect that. So if you're a Delena shipper...may not want to read.
Previously on the Vampire Diaries: As soon as Joseph Morgan started speaking it was obvious it was going to be a Klaus heavy episode…though I was surprised that it wasn’t as much as I suspected. Is anyone else disappointed that they didn’t show the ‘Stefan punching Damon’ during the recap of last week’s episode? Maybe it’s just me but I really enjoy Stefan punching Damon. *Snickers*
The Klaus/Elijah moment/fight: Not going to lie, Elijah is completely badass. The jump/punch this was amazing, I had to giggle. Also I think it’s funny how afraid that Klaus seems of most of his family. Will revisit that later on though. Anyone else think that Stefan holds something bit more than just the coffin? The way that Klaus said ‘Stefan Salvatore…he holds the one thing that keeps me from making our family whole’. I don’t know why but I just feel like there’s something more than just the fourth coffin…should be interesting to find out. I do think it’s pretty bad that Elijah is a better brother to Klaus than Damon is to Stefan…but *Shrugs* Oh well, people are weird…vampires even more so.
Elena and Alaric scene: I don’t know why but I just adore the relationship between these two. There were some great one liners in here as well. “You’re hungover.”, “But I do feel a little guilty about whiskey dialing her at 2 in the am.” “As soon as these aspirin kick in and I remember the conversation I’ll let you know.” I just love these two. They are so comfortable with each other without really knowing each other for that long. They just make me smile. I really hope that Alaric doesn’t get killed off as I really do adore his character.
Elena, Alaric and Sheriff Forbes: Okay, I do think it’s a bit unrealistic that they immediately knew that the stake was theirs. There’s really only so many ways that one can carve a stake…so how do they know it was theirs? As for the fingerprints…that’s not good and I have a feeling that it’s going to come into play later on. Also, Sheriff Forbes hasn’t told anyone but forensics ran it for prints and came up with Elena’s? That would be in the report and technically Elena should have been hauled in for questioning. Again, I have a feeling this will come into play later on.
Damon and Elena on the phone: Is anyone else sick of Elena having him on speed dial? First and second season it was (with everyone for that matter) ‘Let’s call Stefan’ now it’s ‘Oh god, I have to call Damon’. Seriously…he’s the same person that you all hated he’s just a bit more stable than Stefan right now…at least we know that when Stefan has his humanity turned on he’s a good person…while when Damon has his turned completely on he’s still a calculating douchebag. “You’re on speakerphone dick” Does anyone else love the Alaric/Damon relationship. They are so mean to each other and yet they are genuinely friends. It just makes me laugh. “I refuse to believe that you’re luck with women is that tragic” Awww, Elena trying to have faith in Alaric’s taste in women…even though it really is that tragic. Elena thinking it was Stefan was unfortunately understandable being on what night that this went down. I hate to say it but I might have questioned him too…especially since he was with Elena at the lakehouse and had been invited in and he was the one who found the stash up there while they were there for their romantic weekend back last season. Now, with that said, I do think that Damon should have said something along the lines of ‘Not my brother’s style’ or something as it’s quite obvious that if Stefan wanted someone dead he would have done it in a completely different way other than staking them in the heart.
Damon and Elijah: “Elijah, my favorite original.” Wow…high praise…I mean look who he’s in contingent with. Klaus, the reason that his brother went off the rails and Elena’s constantly in danger or Rebekah, who was ‘barbieKlaus’ as Damon called her who wants Elena’s head on a platter. I do think it was a bit OOC for Damon to pull the dagger out completely. He never trusted Elijah in the first place and now all of a sudden he does? I don’t know it just seems a bit off to me. The note that he left in Elijah’s pocket, the way they were saying it was hysterical. ‘Dear Elijah, Let’s get together about the destruction of your brother, XoXo Damon’. Not sure why but I cracked up at that. I wouldn’t trust Elijah…no matter what. As much as I adore his character (and I really do) when it comes to his family he’s not trustworthy as he wants his family to be whole.
Stefan, Bonnie and her mother (Abby): Once again, Stefan’s being an ass here. Lol. I adore him, don’t get me wrong, but he’s just being an ass. Bonnie taking the flashlight out of Stefan’s hand made me laugh. She just grabbed it from him and walked around him. Stefan not believing Abby when she says she doesn’t have any powers is something that I think might come into play later. I don’t trust the woman at all and I personally think that Stefan’s instincts (no matter how skewed he is right now) are usually right.
Stefan and Elena: I was disappointed that this was the only SE scene in the entire episode. I guess that’s why this episode wasn’t one of my favorites. I just felt like even with everything that happened in it that it was still a bit of a filler one. However I’m a freak SE lover so maybe that’s why. Elena questioning Stefan on if he was the one to kill the medical examiner wasn’t at all surprising to me and again I really don’t blame her. The look on Stefan’s face when she questioned him was extremely telling. His face still had the smirk on it but his eyes were surprised that she’d ask. The fact that he didn’t deny it was telling but not in the way that one would think. I don’t think Stefan is doing this (especially since later on when Ric is attacked he’s with Klaus, Elijah and Damon) but I do feel like he’s hiding something. “Did you ask Damon if he killed anybody lately?” Ouch, that remark hurt me…not even going to lie. Granted, it was warranted as Damon tended to be the more impulsive one, however with Stefan off the rails I agree that I would have asked him too.
Dr. Meredith Fell and Caroline: This scene was a bit too long for my tastes. I have sort of lost sympathy for Caroline over this season. She was a great character the first half of last season, now I feel like she’s just sort of there. I felt like that towards the end of last season too. She’s not really in the larger storyline, she’s more off to her own little things. I felt like last season while everyone else was worrying about Klaus and the sacrifice, she was off dealing with her Tyler and Matt drama. I don’t know I just don’t think she’s been a very good friend to anyone recently.
The Caroline/Elena scene in the hallway: Alright I don’t know why but I thought at first that it was Katherine instead of Elena. I don’t know if it was the way she talked or something but I was like ‘that’s not Elena’. Yeah I was wrong. Elena stating that Alaric is her family is probably one of the sweetest things ever. I love how she’s truly embraced him as her family and would do whatever she could to protect him, whether it be from supernatural stuff or simply a crazy new girlfriend. Now, did anyone else think that Caroline hearing her father’s cell phone was really random? I’m sorry but how many people out there have the same ringtone, especially when you have a popular phone and you use one of the ringtones that came on her. Her immediately knowing that it was her father’s phone was just really unbelievable in my opinion.
Caroline and Elena finding her dad: Caroline’s face when she saw her dad was classic. She was so surprised and horrified and I think Candice played that really well. Now, I do wonder how she didn’t remember that he had vampire blood in his system however I guess from the shock of it all. Who knows.
Bonnie and Abby: Did anyone else notice Bonnie’s tone when she was explaining to her mother that in the cave was family history about a mother who loved her children so much that she couldn’t bear to lose them? She was really trying to stick it to her mother in that moment IMO. I thought it was truly interesting how she burned the spell to put Mikael in the tomb…anyone else think that’s going to come into play later? Why would you burn a spell like that. Even if it did take away your magic…you would think that it should be saved. I wonder if that spell was really something else and not the one she used to enslave Mikael. Just food for thought.
Damon and Stefan webclip: You know, every time I re-watch this scene it annoys me even more. Damon just can’t take responsibility for his own actions. Granted, yes, he’s right that if Klaus wouldn’t have turned Stefan into such an ass that the kiss would have never happened, but does he really need to try and lay the blame on someone else? It wasn’t Klaus who ordered you to kiss her, Stefan didn’t beg you to kill the love of his life. It was your lips pressed against hers…so in my mind there are two at fault…Damon and Elena.
Bill Forbes, Caroline and Elena: No offense but how is staying at a hospital full of blood ‘safe’ for a vampire in transition? That was dumb on Caroline’s part. Also just because she compelled a nurse to stay out of the room, doesn’t mean there aren’t ten others around that can walk in at any time. Anyone else think it’s strange that no one sees who attacked them? This points to the fact that it has to be supernatural with supernatural speed. I don’t think it’s Meredith, though I do think she’s up to something. Personally I think Elena should have stayed out of the Bill/Caroline thing. Her adding her two cents in about not drinking blood or else he’d die…that wasn’t really her place to say. Caroline’s face when she realized that her dad was going to let himself die was priceless.
Alaric and Elena: Anyone else think Ric just needs to give up on women? Or at least human women? Lol. Hell two of his ex’s have been turned into vampires and then killed by Klaus…that doesn’t bode well for the future. Ric telling Elena that she should be with Caroline was sweet, and then her telling him to be careful was also sweet. I think it’s odd that Ric knows exactly which weapons are where but then again I’m not a vampire hunter so…maybe that’s natural? Who knows.
Elijah/Klaus & Damon/Stefan: Elijah telling the Salvatore bros that it’s better to indulge Klaus was random but funny in a weird way. Almost as if he’s warning them without fully saying it. “We can sit down and eat, or I can reach down your throats and pull out your insides.” Wow…that’s vivid. I think that was my reaction last night on twitter too. Lol.
Continuation of the above scene after commercial break: Okay, Damon checking out the girl after she pours him wine and saying ‘thank you love’. Yeah Damon, that’s smart to do in front of your brother whose girl you’re trying to steal. If I would have been Stefan I would have made a mental note about that and said something later. “Hey Stef, remember when you killed dad? Might wanna dial down the judgment until desert.” That was actually a really good comeback for Damon. “Doesn’t mean we need to kiss his ass for seven courses.” *Snickers* I’m glad that Stefan hasn’t really ever kissed Klaus’ ass. Even when he was under his compulsion he was never an ass kisser and that’s something that I have always respected about Stefan.
Elena and Caroline: I thought this was a sweet scene…it actually made me cry. Anyone else think that Tyler is the one killing these people? He had been to the lakehouse with the wolf pack so he knew where it was and could have easily gone back, no one can find him and Caroline had left messages for him, and Caroline even asks if it could be him. Caroline saying that she’s going to force her father to feed and Elena sticking up for his choices, was sweet but I agree a bit hypocritical. However, with that said, I do think that a father and an impulsive little brother are two extremely different entities. Caroline’s father has lived all his life hating vampires and trying to fight against them. He deserves to make that choice. Jeremy on the other hand while yes, it was wrong to compel him (again), he is a 16 year old whose gotten in the middle of things that he should have never gotten in the middle of. It’s not his fault and I do agree that Elena was wrong to compel him, she was just looking out for her younger brother and the only true family she has left. Elena telling Caroline that the hardest part about losing her dad was realizing all the things he wouldn’t be there for…it was heart breaking. ‘The things that you just need your dad for’…I have a feeling Elena has needed her dad in several situations and yet she’s had to do it all by herself. Matt showing up for Caroline was extremely telling in how good of a person he is. The way he hugged her was so sweet that I definitely had Matt/Caroline flashbacks who I’ve always liked as a couple far more than Tyler and Caroline.
Klaus/Elijah & Stefan/Damon: Alright, Stefan’s constant jibes about ‘Ask Damon where Elena is’ or ‘It’s your job to care about Elena now’ are starting to get on my nerves. I understand what he’s doing but it’s like ‘dude, you’ve hit the nail in the coffin way too many times’. I’m getting sort of sick of it. ‘One more word about Elena and this dinner is over’ Not really sure how to take that…though if I would have been Stefan after Klaus said ‘Trouble in paradise’ I would have said something like ‘You caused the trouble in paradise you arrogant asshole’. But that’s just me. The story about Tatia was interesting to me (though I am surprised at her name versus Charlotte but whatever). Did anyone else notice that both Tatia and Katherine had children out of wedlock? That’s just odd and I hope not foreshadowy. Why Stefan seems so amused by the fact that both Klaus and Elijah loved the same girl I’m not sure, but he really seems amused and surprised by that…like it couldn’t ever happen. Uh…Stefan? Do I need to paint you a picture of you and Damon? “Family above all” Does this seem foreshadowy to anyone else?
Bonnie and Abby: Bonnie giving her mother a lecture on opening herself up to it was odd but good that she has learned that she herself has to open up to it as well. I still remember during the first season where she had a block on her magic because she was so afraid of the vampires and now she’s trying to help get around the block so her mother can help. Again with the whole ‘I have to call Damon’…why are you calling Damon and not Stefan? Stefan’s the one who is obsessed with this damn coffin...I don’t know I just am annoyed that Damon has sort of taken Stefan’s place within the group and it bugs me. Again, I think Abby is up to something. I don’t trust her.
Klaus/Elijah & Stefan/Damon: ‘Me, Stefan and Elena live happily ever after, no grudges’ I know it’s probably just the way that it was said, but does anyone else think that Damon would be perfectly happy sharing Elena with Stefan for all eternity? As long as he gets a piece of her I don’t think he really cares if he has to share her or not…he just wants her no matter what the consequences. “I will never leave her behind.” This sounds a bit foreshadowy to me as well. Anyone think by the end of the season (can totally see it being the cliffhanger of the season finale) that Klaus leaves and then right at the end you see he’s got Elena kidnapped and taking her with him. Klaus’ comment about how neither Salvatore brother are safe for her is true…but neither of them can let her go. Stefan knows that, just by the look on his face, but that doesn’t mean he’ll accept it. I’m sure he’ll try especially after he truly lets all of his humanity back in and feels remorse for the things he’s done…but he won’t be able to stay away from her.
Matt/Elena: I do think that the show is heading for some Matt/Elena time. However does anyone else think that Matt will die if he’s with Elena? I hate to say that but I can see that happening on this show. Matt and Elena get together so she can try and be ‘normal again’…but then Matt is killed by something supernatural and it makes her realize that she’ll never be normal and instead she has to accept that fact. I was on twitter last night and saw Val’s tweets about Matt and Elena possibly being endgame…I cannot honestly see that happening. Would I prefer it to Damon and Elena? Hell yes. However, I was re-watching the pilot episode and it started out with STEFAN talking: ‘I am a vampire and this is MY story’. That’s one of the few things that has kept my faith in Stelena over the past season is that this is all Stefan’s story…so in the end I truly think that it’ll be Stelena who is endgame. Now, with that said, I do enjoy the Matt/Elena friendship and how he’s always there for her…but I don’t really see any romantic connection between them any longer. I see them as best friends…not lovers. I will say that I like the fact that they both grab knives after they find the pool of blood. Most horror films the main characters simply run around looking with no protection, so at least they went the smart route.
Finding Alaric: Again, Ric not seeing who attacked him points all hands to supernatural (which is obvious since it’s a vampire show, but still). Has to be someone with enhanced speed in order for everyone to not see him. “You have to kill me. Elena you have to kill me.” Smart thinking Ric. However Matt’s reaction to Elena having to kill Ric is why I think that Matt will NEVER be able to handle being Elena’s boyfriend. This is the type of stuff that she has to do and unfortunately it’s never going to stop as long as Klaus and the originals are still alive…so…yeah.
Stefan and Klaus: Was I the only one really glad that Stefan didn’t drink from that girl? We haven’t seen him feed in several episodes so one can only guess if he’s still snacking on humans or if he’s back on blood bags…we really have no idea. However I was a bit worried that he was going to feed on that girl with Klaus and that would have annoyed me greatly.
Klaus/Elijah & Stefan/Damon: Klaus’ counter offer about Elena and Matt settling down and having babies and blah blah blah. Yeah, that wouldn’t happen. I personally cannot see Elena having children with anyone if she knows that in a few hundred years there will be another doppelganger out there that Klaus will use in the same way he’s used her. She’s too protective over her family to want that so she’d rather let her bloodline die out with her instead of having a child to carry on the cycle. Stefan knows that allowing Elena to move on is what’s best for her and he shows here that he truly does love her because he’s willing to let her go…HOWEVER he’s also not dumb, he knows that while yes, allowing Elena to have a human life would be what was best, that allowing Klaus to ‘protect her’ would be stupid. That was dumb on his part though to walk over in front of the fire. Even if I hadn’t had seen the promo shots the minute I saw Klaus’ face I would have said ‘yep, someone’s going in the fire’. At least Damon tries to save him, 1 point for the older brother (though he really does owe Stefan about 1,000 more).
Caroline and Bill Forbes: My mom actually walked in last night and was like “why are you crying?!” as I watched this scene. It was heartbreaking to watch Caroline break down but so sweet in the way that he offered his love and acceptance of what his daughter was, something that I truly believe that Caroline needed. “Please don’t leave me daddy” That part broke my heart.
Stefan and Klaus: Did anyone think that Klaus knew when he said ‘where’s the fight, where’s the ripper?’ and Stefan pushed him away, that Stefan had turned back on his humanity a bit? Sure it’s not full blown Stefan but I think Klaus knew that Stefan had pushed the switch up a bit…just the look on his face.
The family reuniting: Can I just say that Klaus fearing his family is incredibly interesting to me. He straight fears them in a way that’s very telling and I think that will play a part in later times. Stefan and Damon leaving and then Elijah’s parting words ‘This is family business’ was epic.
Caroline and Sheriff Forbes: I think it was sweet that Caroline’s mom stayed out of everything but was still there if her daughter needed her. I’m glad that the two have bonded a bit more over the past season.
Matt and Elena: Elena saying that she couldn’t lose anymore family was so heartbreaking and true, she just keeps reiterating how much she truly loves Ric as family. Did anyone else wish that she would have called Stefan and said something like ‘Please Stefan, I need you’. I know it would be really weird timing but I just feel like it could have been an epic scene, but alas she asks Matt to stay with her (and calls Damon later on who ignores her call).
Stefan and Damon: At least Damon doesn’t want Stefan to thank him until he’s paid him back…I actually respected that since it’s true…Damon has been saved by Stefan a lot more than Stefan has been saved by Damon. ‘You could have left me there. Klaus would have killed me and you would have had Elena all to yourself’ ‘I didn’t do that on your account.’ Okay, I can take this two ways. One, he knows he couldn’t survive knowing his brother was killed because he didn’t do something. However the way I want to take is the second way, and he did it for Elena who would never forgive him if he let Stefan die. She would never get over Stefan dying…and he knows that. ‘I love her Damon’ THANK YOU! Granted, I wish he would have said those words to Elena instead of Damon, but it’s nice to hear them either way (and I’m glad I was wrong about saying them about a puppy or a tulip or something).
Elena and Sheriff Forbes: Okay, if a vampire is working with Dr. Fell, they could have easily compelled a bunch of nurses and doctors to see Meredith when she really wasn’t there so I don’t think this completely clears her, but again I don’t think it’s her…I just think she’s up to something.
Elena, Alaric and Matt: I don’t know if it’s just me but wouldn’t you have at least cleaned off Alaric’s face while waiting for him to wake up? That’s probably just me but that’s something I thought about as I watched him wake up. Yeah, I’m weird.
Stefan going over to Bonnie: Alright this tiny 5 second scene annoyed me and made me smile at the same time. It was clear that he was worried about Bonnie which shows that he’s coming back slowly to his former self. HOWEVER, it annoyed me because that little act right there was more compassion than he’s shown for Elena in a long time. Now, I’m sure people will disagree with me but that’s just sort of how I felt.
Damon and Stefan: ‘Momma’s still breathing, I can hear her’ Wow, again, shows how great of a guy Damon is. If Elena would have been there she would have gone over to Bonnie first obviously and then gone over to Abby. Damon simply just ignores it (other than stating that she’s alive) and focuses on the empty coffin.
Original Family: I wonder what will happen with Elena’s necklace (that Rebekah is still wearing). I assume that she’ll give it back to her mother but I wonder after everything is said and done, if Elena will ever get it back. It was a big part of her for a long time so I feel like for it to just disappear (especially since she’s wearing it in several of the posters for the show still from this season) that it would be a bit odd. ‘We’re leaving you Nic, right after I kill that doppelganger wench’ Alright, for one thing, if Klaus actually allows Rebekah to go against Elena, he goes back on their deal that he made with Elena. He promised Elena to leave her brother alone and to keep Rebekah from hurting her in exchange for him getting Rebekah back. ‘I’m the hybrid…I can’t be killed’. Yeah, he’s a bit crazy right there and it was amazing acting by Joseph Morgan IMO.
Momma Original: Alright, I knew it was either Esther or the original Petrova in the coffin, so that it was her wasn’t a surprise. I was a bit surprised that she wanted to help Klaus, though not surprised that she wanted her family to be whole again. However I do think this leads to another set of very large problems for The Mystic Falls group…I mean really how much more can they take?
Sorry this was so long…I sort of tend to go off on a tangent when I write these. lol
