- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -She could see his little mind working overtime so she stayed quiet, not wanting to interrupt his thoughts. She knew he had to have a hundred thousand questions and she wanted him to feel comfortable asking them so she stayed quiet. She couldn't even imagine how he felt, not only having been taken away from his adopted parents, but then realizing not only was there someone who could do some of the same things that he could, but also knew his biological parents...it had to be overwhelming. She had no idea how he was handling it as well as he was, but that was neither here nor there.
"You're uncle's name is Michael. It's sort of complicated but I'll try and explain. Michael, Isabel and Max...your father...they were found abandoned when they were six in the desert. They were found by a couple. Isabel and Max stayed where they were, but Michael ran and hid. The couple took Max and Isabel and ended up adopting them. They didn't find Michael until about two years later when they started the third grade...the same day that I met them actually. Michael was never really adopted, he was in foster care until he was sixteen and then he was able to become a legal adult. After that he had his own place though your dad moved in with him about a year before we all graduated." She explained, not really giving much away as they weren't completely alone...at least not in an enclosed space...but she gave him as much as she could.
She was surprised when she saw how much control Zan had over his powers. Usually Max had to touch something to change it so to see him do it without touch was pretty surprising. She grinned at him. "You'll be handy to have around...been a few times I couldn't get a color of a shirt just right." She stated with a wink, realizing she was probably creeping him out with all the winking she was doing but really she had no idea how else to act. She was definitely in uncharted territory.
"Invisible?" She asked him, surprised at learning that. It had never occurred to her that someone could turn invisible but then again, it seemed as if this little boy could defy the impossible. Hearing about his knowledge of where someone was didn't surprise her as much as the invisible thing did. "You're dad and I were sort of like that. I could always tell when he was around...though I'm not sure if I could anymore. I haven't seen your dad in a long time." She told him sadly, though immediately plastered a smile on her face before she got too sad...she didn't need him to understand her issues.
"You're dad can heal...just like you can. Your aunt can dream walk people, basically go into dreams and see what they are dreaming about. Your uncle can blast things to the extreme and you're mom..." She trailed off, hating the thought of Tess' real power and what it did. "She could make people see things that weren't real." She explained shortly...not wanting to get into any more detail other than that.

"Oh" he said tilting his head a little bit. Well.... that was... different. Kind of sad too. At least they all were able to kind of be together. Biological siblings or not, they were still very close.... So that was alright. But poor Michael, he surly got the short end of the stick. But that kind of sounds like something Zan might do. He'd run and hide, assess the situation, and show himself when he saw no danger. So he could relate to what his Uncle had done. Yet had he had a sister, he might have stayed with her as well. It was all very complicated and confusing. He was not sure how he felt about anything and everything at the same time. He was just kind of trying to process everything. One step at a time. He needed a nice long nap or something before his brain could start working again. Really. What could he do with all this information. There was only so much he could remember, of course every single word would be engraved in his brain from now until forever. But he could hardly think about anything, he was too busy engraving it into his small little mind.
"Yeah. Sometimes I go invisible when I want to be left alone... or once when I was scared, or when I don't want to get in trouble." He added. Lucky he's never gone invisible in front of anyone before, well besides Liz. That was just lucky really. Normally he would hear his mother call his name, and go up to his room to find he was not there. That's if Zan left a mess or something. He'd just be invisible, and while his mom looked for him, he'd clean up his mess. It worked out pretty well, he never got into a lot of trouble because of his little gift. It was pretty cleaver really.
"And you see the future." He added with a small smile. Guess that was everyone. He half wondered if he could do all that stuff as well. He had his daddies gift, so he could have his mom's gift also, maybe part of his Aunts and Uncles as well. "How did you know you can see the future?" He asked, touching on trying to figure out if he had more gifts that he did not know about. He already had three gifts he knew how to use pretty well, but where their any more? Liz did say something about being found when they were six. Zan was six years old now, so maybe he'd develop more gifts now? He was not sure how it worked or why or what.

- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -She smiled sadly at the little boy's statement about going invisible to be left alone or when he got scared. "You shouldn't have to go invisible if you're scared honey...isn't there someone you can talk to where you live?" She asked, treading extremely lightly. She would be the first to admit that she wasn't very well versed in what went down at orphanages or boys and girls towns and such. She had learned the basics while in school while they had discussed it in her classes, but she was a scientist in the beginning and in the end her life had revolved around the alien abyss.
She nodded her head slowly when he stated that she could see the future. "Actually it wasn't something that was really fun for me." She told him, trying to think of the best way to tell him how she had learned that she could see the future. "The first time it happened was when I was working...I was a waitress when I was younger and I was taking the check from a girl and I saw her about to be robbed." She told him, eliminating the fact that she had also seen the woman being murdered. "Your dad and I went out into the alley and stopped it from happening. It happened a few more times after that, always when I touched someone and it's never the same thing nor is it all the time." She told him, explaining as best as she could.
She could tell that he had more questions but he was scared to ask them, and yet she had no idea how to help him overcome that fear. Well, maybe fear wasn’t the right word…maybe just being generally shy? She really had no idea. “As for my other skills, I learned that I could blast when I saw someone that I didn’t like and I got really mad and scared.” She stated, negating the fact that it had actually been his mother that she had blasted the first time. She really doubted that he would want to hear how she had blasted his mother because she had seen her for the first time after learning that she had killed her best friend and then his father had let her leave the planet in order to ‘save’ his child who technically hadn’t been in any danger. “And the molecular structure thing was when I set a book on fire on accident.” She stated with a laugh.

Zan shrugged his shoulders. "Well I mean there are counselors. But they are usually busy with the other boys." He said with a bit of a shrug. It was not that big of a deal. He was kind of used to being alone. He was an old child, so he did not often have anyone to play with. Well when his father was home, he could play with one parent while the other did whatever needed to be done. But once his father was gone, Zan was expected to entertain himself, at least for the most part. So he was used to it. But honestly if one of the more aggressive boys got on his nerves, what could he do? If he told on them, the boy would bug him more, if he took it, it became a game. He really could not fight back, for he was not sure if he had anymore gifts, and he did not really want to find out. He'd already blown up a stuffed animal while alone after being pushed around by a bunch of guys. He cleaned it up before anyone saw. but still. He was not sure what all he could do, and he did not want to hurt anyone.
"Oh." He asked. "Well can you turn it on and off?" He asked reaching out and touching her. "Did you see my future?" He asked Not really waiting for a reply, but his eyes were pretty hopeful. "Did you see me with my dad? Or am I still at the Boy's Home?" He asked. really really hoping for the Max situation. Of course she just said it did not always work. But he was hopeful that he' be out of there. He came from a pretty good home, so the boys that were there were kind of jealous, and picked on him often. He had a family he should go back to them kind of deal. He just gripped her arm, rather tightly, not enough to hurt her, but to let her know he was there. God he wanted to know. Of course had she not seen anything, he would not be that disappointed. But he just wanted to know if he had to suffer there the rest of his life, or if he would be reunited with his adopted mother or biological father. He wished for the second option. His mothers mind was just not the same. He could tell she would never go back to how she used to be, and he'd visit her, but he'd never know her again.
"Oh." He added, Oh was his most favorite word today. It was what he fell back on, no matter what he was feeling Oh was a great word. He could use it for anything really, about anything. "I never set anything on fire before." He said with a small smile. "But I did one time blow up a teddy bear once after Billy called me some mean names. But I cleaned it up before anyone could see." He said, hoping that was similar enough to connect them more. He already felt connected to her, at this point he was just trying to get her to feel the same way. He just wanted Liz to like him, if not like him but love him, take him home, get him to meet Max, get that family back. He was trying, but he never really had to win the hearts of anyone before. So he was not sure what he was doing. He just hoped that things would work out alright for him this time around, because clearly the last two times failed.

- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -She hated that this child seemed so okay with being essentially ignored. That was something she would definitely change. She still had no idea what she was going to do about this whole situation but clearly something had to be done. He was an alien-human hybrid and one that clearly would be wanted...not only by the FBI if they ever found out that he was Max Evans and Tess Harding’s son, but Max's enemies would also want him, as he was technically the air to the throne. Granted, Kivar himself as denied his rightful place on Antar (or so Tess said) and ordered him killed but still, if anyone found out he had powers it was done before it could begin.
Her heart broke when he touched her and then asked her if he saw her with his dad or if he was still in the group home. Jesus, what was she supposed to say to that? "It doesn't work that way kiddo." She told him. "I honestly usually only see if someone is in danger to be honest. I've gotten a bit better at it but it takes quite a bit before I am able to get a vision purposely..." She explained, hoping he wouldn't ask for more details. "However the fact that when you touched me and I didn't get a vision, that's probably a good thing since that means that at the moment nothing bad should be happening to either one of us any time soon." She told him, praying that she was speaking the truth. Futures changed in an instant, one choice could alter the course forever, which was the reason that visions usually were only a tiny percent accurate.
Smiling down at the little boy she wanted nothing more than to pull him to her and snuggle him into her arms, which was quite odd since really she had never been the most affectionate person in the world. Sure with Alex and Maria they had always been hugging and holding hands and such, but that was because they had known each other since Kindergarten. Then with Max they could barely keep their hands off of each other...whether that be when they were being as intimate as they ever had, or just holding hands and holding one another...however other than those particular people she had never really been affectionate, so it was an odd for her to want to hold the little boy...but she did.
"I've blown up quite a few things when I've been angry or scared...starting a book on fire, melting a plate, uhh...I've blasted your dad once on accident...he was okay though...but yeah...I completely understand." She told him with a laugh.

And once again Zan fell back on the only word he seemed to know. "Oh." He said removing his head, trying not to show the disappointment on his face. At least he tried? At least that meant he was not going to be pushed around or made fun of when he got back to the boys home... right? That would mean he was in danger? Maybe? He was not so sure how it really worked, and he did not want to ask about it more. She did not look like she wanted to talk. Well she looked kind of sad, which made him a little worried. Of course he knew she would have to leave him at some point, and he'd have to go back to class, but honestly he did not want that to happen. He could recall asking his teacher to take him home with her once or twice, after a hard weekend. It was embarrassing. But it was worth a shot. Realistically he knew he could not just leave and go home with a stranger, but he was unaware of the process taking months maybe even years. He hoped it would go faster.
"Yeah." Zan nodded still disappointed from her last answer. He tried to hide it, but he was no actor. He could not hide what he felt. He'd try of course but it was clear he had not gotten an answer he wanted. Of course it was not her fault she could not see the future. He understood that, but he was hoping for more. "Maybe... Maybe you could take me to see my dad?" He asked though hopeful, he knew the chance of her saying yes were slim. Even if she did say yes and lie to him, he knew he'd have to wait a long long time to see him. Zan just wanted to go now. Really no one would miss him too much. Oh course when it was time to round up the boys from the group home and take them back, he'd be missed. But as long as he got on the buss, he'd be ignored until the next morning, or the next school day. All he had to do was get on the buss, go invisible sneak off the buss, and he'd be free for the whole weekend. No one would look for him. He would really be alright. It could happen. "I know he's close. I can feel him. I could find him if you take me to see him." Zan added, hoping that would be a little more of an incentive to get her to agree to take him where he needed to go.

- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -Hearing Zan ask her if she could take him to see his dad broke her heart. She had no idea how to answer that and more than anything she wished she could give him an affirmative on taking him to see Max. Hell, she wished that she herself could go see him...but unfortunately she couldn't...and for more than one reason. How could she explain to a young child at the tender age of six what had happened to force them to all split ways for the past five years? How could she take his innocence even more than it had already been taken away from him?
Knowing she had to try she smiled at him sadly. “I’m sorry honey but I can’t…” She trailed off before taking a deep breath and looked into his blue eyes. Honestly his eyes were beautiful; they were honest, earnest, and everything that his mother’s weren’t. “I haven’t seen your dad in over five years little one.” She told him sadly, though the term ‘little one’ wasn’t really accurate since he was fairly tall for such a young child. By the age of 12 he’d be taller than her…and that was only if it took him that long to reach her height. Then again his father was a good head taller than she was so this really didn’t surprise her at all.
Hearing him say that he knew Max was close was like a knife to the gut. Really, how did she respond to that? A part of her wanted to say 'okay' and whisk him off to try to find his father...but the other part of her...the realistic one...the scientist...she knew better. She knew that children rarely judged things in the same perspective as adults did. His 'close' and her 'close' could be two very different things. In his mind he could be 'close' as in the United States while her idea of 'close' was in the same town...maybe in the same building. So she knew that they could have been easily judging things in different ways.
"Unfortunately sweetheart I'm not really sure how to handle this to be honest. I have no legal standing to take you with me." She told him sadly, hating to admit it. It would have been a lot easier if she and Max were actually married or if Max was there or anything else but the reality of the situation. She was simply a person who knew his biological father...nothing more. “In the eyes of the law I’m simply a friend of a friend…rather than someone who cares about you a lot.” She told him honestly, hating to put a damper into his bright blue eyes.

Well his attempts at getting her to take him away had not worked at all. But why? Why? Why? He wanted to ask, but he knew he'd get similar answers. To the law she was but a person, and he could understand the people at the group home wanting to keep him safe. Of course his ideal of safe, and theirs were totally different. For example, he had to hide most of the time to be left alone and not bugged. But if he would go home with Liz, he could be happy. He would not have to hide from the older boys, he would not have to defend himself or others. No at Liz's home he could play by himself, with no fear of someone getting jealousy and making him give up his toy. He did not have to watch his pictuers getting ripped up because 'boys' cant paint or whatever the reason. With Liz he could be happy. Of course for all the people at the boy's home knew, Liz could be a psycho killer. But if they took a second to talk to her they would realize how nice she was. And she knew his dad, so that had to be a plus. Even if they had not talked for how ever many years. That was sad, and he wanted to know why, but he wanted to get himself out of this boys home first.
He let her finish saying whatever she had to say, before he'd give it his last shot. Had she turned him down even after this he might just cry. "But no one would miss me." He tried hoping she would understand. "They take attendance on the buss to and from the home." He said kicking his feet in nervousness. "But while we are there over the weekend, no one would miss me." He shrugged, hoping she'd get what he was hinting at. "I mean I'm under my bed half the time, and I never eat with everyone." He added, still hoping she might get his point. "As long as I was back before the buss take us to school on Monday, no one would know" He ended. Really. Who would miss him? He was a quiet boy who kept to himself. He was relatively new, meaning he had yet to join one of the 'gang' that were there. The older kids had their younger followers. Zan was excluded, so none of the boys would miss him, the adults had their hands full keeping the older boys from burning down the place or whatever. So it could work. Even if it was just for the weekend. That would get him through the weekday. And after he got off the buss he could always take Liz to find Max. Zan had never really used his ability to find anyone, that might have been a lie. But he'd look for sure. He'd walk around down town until he felt closer to his daddy. At some point he'd have to find him right?
Max could not be that far away, he felt him really close. He was sure if he came into contact with something his daddy touched, he'd be able to find him easy. But he'd need something to jump start it. But still, Max was close he knew that, he could feel it. He knew before Liz walked in the classroom, that someone special would be here soon. He just did not know who and did not want his hopes up, in case they went to a different room. But still the rest was in Liz's hands. He could hardly do much more. Sure he could sneak off the buss, but if she was not waiting for him, then what could he do? Stand around? No if he was not with an adult, then someone would call the police he'd get picked up and taken back to the home. If he was brought home in a police car, things got harder to do. They watch you like a hawk if your a trouble maker. And he would be marked a trouble maker for sneaking away. So long as he did not get caught he'd be okay. Liz just had to be waiting with her car on, and door open. He'd climb in and off they would go, no one would know or see him. It all had to work it just had to. So long as he got back in time for school on Monday, no harm would be done. Really no one would miss him. People hardly talk to him as is, he understood why he was forgotten, and for once he enjoyed being forgotten, it would give him a chance to get away, so long as Liz agreed. It's not like they were doing anything that bad. He was with an adult, and he was not going to miss any school.

- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -Hearing that no one would miss this child made her want to scream out in rage. What the hell!? This had not been what was supposed to have happened! This child had been one of the most loved people she had ever seen and yet for some reason he thought that no one would miss him? In that moment she wished she could tell him how broken his father had been when his mother went off to another damn planet without him. How much his father sacrificed in order to try and find him. How happy he was when he realized that he had finally been reunited with his son, and how devastated he had been with he realized that the only way to keep him safe was to get him as far away from him as possible.
The comment about hiding under the bed and never eating with anyone made her decision for her. Pulling the young boy into her arms once again she ran her hand through his short locks, wanting to never be separated from him again but knowing that she had no authority to make that promise. "Sweetheart I need to make sure that we don't get in trouble...both you and me. So let me call a friend of mine really quick and we'll see what we can do. I need to call your uncle...and we'll get this taken care of. I won't make any promises now other than I promise to try my hardest to make sure you don't have to go back there, at least not for very long." She told him, bending down to place a kiss on his forehead before sliding out from underneath the huge tire swing. "stay right here. I'm going to walk right over there and make the phone call but I won't be gone long." She told him quietly before walking to the other side of the playground.
Making sure she was still in sight of not only Zan but also the window in case his teacher happened to look out she dialed a number that she prayed would go through.
Safety was the first priority...it always had been.
--------------------------------------
[/size] Hanging up with Maria a few short minutes later she took a cleansing breath before walking back over to Zan, giving him a look that she hoped was reassuring. "I need to talk to a friend of mine before I can do anything bud. I wish I could take you with me right this second however unfortunately I'm going to need help...so I'm going to have to ask you to go back to the boys home on the bus...however, can you keep a secret?" She asked him, hoping to soften the blow. Word Count:: 577 Tag:: Alexzander ‘Zan’ Logan Hughes-Evans Outfit:: Click here for Liz’s outfit!Note:: Sorry I had to stop it here. Zan just nodded, still not sure what might happen. He could tell his story had touched her heart but how much so? Was it enough for her to take him out of that place? Or would he have to go back. Would she let him sneak off the buss and go back home with her for at least the weekend? Or was she going to make him go back. Of course it was homework time as soon as they got off the buss and back to the boys home, but that was some of the worst time for Zan. He tried to work on his homework, but with one kid bursting out about one thing or another he hardly had a quit place to work, so he rushed through it all. That of course affected his grades, but his teachers knew his story, and let a lot slide. He was a hurting kid, he just needed to get used to his new situation. If Zan could just have a little attention, have a quiet place to work he'd do fine. It's not that he does not know the material, he just can't sit down and do it back at the home, any way no ones really there to check it, and pick up on stupid mistakes, Zan overlooked.
Zan could hear Liz speaking to his Uncle on the phone, but he tried to turn his ears off. He did not want to hear it. He did not want to hear Liz saying there was nothing they could do or something. So he turned his attention to the classroom. Sure he could not hear what was going on in there, but he saw his teacher walking around, and he could guess who was getting yelled at, who was being patted on the back. It was like he was there, only he was outside, which is where he'd rather be. One on one attention. He needed some of that right about now. But soon he herd her hang the phone up, and Zan looked at her as she made her way back. He was hopeful, yet a little fearful of what he'd hear.
And of course bad news. He was expecting that much, so it did not hurt so bad. It was disappointing, but his mind continued to search for something he could tell her something more important. Something that would make her want to get him out of there. But really there was nothing he could recall. The place was not that bad. He did not get beaten up by the staff, sure some of the other kids might knock him around a bit, but he always got out of it with little more then a bump or bruise. It really was an alright place to be, he just needed... special attention. So this was not at all the right place to be. But he was stuck that much was clear. He only nodded his head slowly when asked if he could keep a secret. He could, he'd have no problem keeping her secrets, he was just not sure if he wanted to. He would no matter what, she asked and he would not go back on his word... or his nod. So he would keep it, he just was not sure he could handle the weight of another secret, especially after being thrown back a few steps, and he really though he was going to get a good answer from her. Well... hopefully she'd at least visit him.

- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -Feeling awful she pulled him into her arms once again, not wanting to leave him either. How she could feel this strongly for another woman's child she had no idea...especially a woman who she despised...yet she did. She didn't understand it, didn't really quite grasp her feelings of maternal love for this little boy, but she did know that she wouldn’t let anyone harm him if she had anything to say about it…and she would do whatever she could to make sure that he was happy and safe...and when Liz Parker sent her mind to something, that was usually all there was to it.
"Listen to me kiddo, I'm going to give you my other cell phone. It has a charger with it and I put it on silence. It's got my number in it and if you need me before I can come and get you...you call me...no matter what time it is. You have to keep it hidden or else they'll take it away. The number is under Claudia as that's what I go by here...but I will be there as soon as humanly...or...maybe a little bit faster...and I'll do whatever I can to help. I'm not going to leave you sweetheart...I just have to figure out a way to make sure that we are all together and safe...okay? Can you keep the phone a secret for a couple of days while I try to figure out a way to bring you back to your family?" She asked him hopefully.
She hated having to leave him, but she knew she had to. She had to meet with Maria and figure out how to get this to work. She had to make sure that this child was safe and happy…and right now he was neither. Not only would the FBI do ungodly things to him if they found out that he was Max Evans’ son…but Kivar and their enemies would do god knows what to him if they found out that Zan really did have powers. Technically Kivar wasn’t the true king of Antar…Max was…and Zan was his heir and that meant a lot of problems for the two of them unless they were safe.
Hearing the bell ring she held out her hand for the little man and started walking towards the doors, stopping right outside. Hugging him once more she placed a soft kiss on his forehead. “Don’t worry about anything…I promise you’ll be okay. I’ll make sure you’re back with your family soon.” She promised before leading him back inside…knowing that she had a promise to fulfill.
