- - - - - - - - - - -The blonde shook her head when Jesse stated that it would be nice to overcome the effects. “Honestly sometimes I wonder if I’m doing the right thing by using the knowledge I have in order not to be affected.” She told him honestly. “The only reason I even begin to allow myself that freedom is I am not here to hurt anyone and am actually here to try and help those that I care about and save a lot of people that I don’t even know. So while I don’t think it’s something that’s necessary all the time I am doing it for a greater purpose.” She told him, not sure why she was opening her mouth and spilling said words but for some reason he was easy to talk to.
Plus Noah was busy screwing around with Rebekah (something she had yet to tell anyone as she didn’t want to hear their mouths about it) and Stefan was off doing god knows what with Damon so she hadn’t had anyone other than Elena to talk to in quite awhile and while she really did enjoy spending time with Elena, Lexi had always been one who got along better with men than women since they didn’t seem to be as put off by her sense of humor.
Then again it could have easily been because Lexi tended to ramble on about anything and everything and while for the most part she was a know it all at the same time she was still someone who had a lot of hurt in her life and just wanted to make sure that those she cared about didn’t have to experience the same amount of pain that she had which led her to being protective and proactive towards those that she loved. Who knew with Lexi.
“As for wanting others to be immune to it, you really don’t.” She told him, her eyes wise as she remembered the stories that she had heard. “I know a woman who learned the secret and while it was good in one way as I learned from her, but as for the other way it wasn’t. She hurt a lot of people because she pretended that the vervain affected her and then after hearing all of their secrets she showed them the true power that she had. She could have killed the entire town and no one would have been able to stop her.” She stated, not telling him that it had been only Stefan and Elena who had been in immediate danger, well, really only Elena as she doubted that Katherine would ever kill Stefan unless she absolutely had to. That didn’t mean that she wouldn’t viciously harm him or someone else to hurt him emotionally. Lexi didn’t trust Katherine as far as she could throw her and while Katherine may have been older than Lexi so physically stronger, Lexi often wondered who would win in an all out fight. She doubted it would be easy but she had enough anger towards that particular woman that it would be a very close fight.
Then again Katherine had been running for the past five hundred years so there was a good chance she would beat Lexi simply because she had learned how to take care of herself and Lexi while knowing how to take care of herself hadn’t ever had the initiative that Katherine had. Katherine was also a lot craftier than the blonde vampire being that she didn’t care about hurting anyone else in the process, Lexi was more focused on those around her and keeping them safe rather than looking for any way to eliminate her opponent.
“So while yes, being immune to vervain or as close as one can get is all fun and such, it’s not something I would recommend to people as it makes people lose their edge.” She stated, though the way she said ‘people’ both times were very different, signaling the first time she meant vampires and the second she meant humans.
It wasn’t a surprise that Jesse’s brother freaked because of what had been done to him. “Was he actually in love with her or was he compelled to feel that way?” She asked curiously, wondering if it was a Damon/Katherine situation where the love was real (though clearly the man didn’t know his girlfriend was a vampire, unlike Damon who knew) or if it was a Katherine/Stefan situation where Stefan had fallen for Katherine originally but he had been compelled after learning what she was to not tell anyone and to not let it bother him. That was her real issue with Katherine. Not that she turned both of them as she knew somewhere deep down the vampire did care about the two Salvatore brothers, but the fact that she had done it to Stefan under duress as he had been under compulsion pissed her off to no end.
“You said that the two of you were close, are you not close anymore?” She asked curiously, simply wondering why if his brother had told him about vervain and how to keep vampire compulsion at bay why the two weren’t close. Lexi was a curious person by nature but she also liked to learn things and while being curious she was also cautious. She liked Jesse but she didn’t know him well enough to trust him yet, hence the fishing expedition for information.
She laughed and nodded at the statement about Sandra. “Hey, right there with ya. A friend of mine was turned by his lady love and had been compelled to keep her species a secret. Put me in a room with her when she’s not working on the same side as I am and I’d love to kick her ass. And he knows it too. Hell she knows damn well that there is no love lost between us so I know where you’re coming from there. It sucks watching people you love fall for people who end up sucking the life out of them, both figuratively and literally.”
“Why not stay in contact with him? Sure you guys can’t you know live together as a happy family but why not keep in contact? Your choice or his?” She asked, thinking of her own family. She knew had they known about her being a vampire when she was turned that she would more than happily stay in contact with them even if it was difficult for her to watch them grow old and pass away. She knew that Caroline, and most likely Elena eventually would have to go through that and while it wasn’t a pleasant experience or thought, it was something that vampires eventually dealt with. She and Sophia had spoken about it for a long time when they had first met. Sophia watched her family from afar where as Lexi after killing her younger sister who was turned to spite her had made her way out of town, and only went back to watch her families’ funerals as none of them knew that she was still alive.
Before Jesse could answer anything else though she received a text message from Mark saying that someone had heard that the Salvatore brothers were on their way to Vegas. This meant she had things to do and had to get them done before she got an exact location on the boys. "I'm so sorry Jesse but I have to go." She told him before taking out a piece of paper and jotting down her number. "Give me a call sometime and we can hopefully continue this conversation." She told him before throwing some money on the table for her drink as well as Jeremy's tip and then rushed out the door... As usual her friends came first.
