- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - - I'm not quite sure how to breathe without you here. I'm not quite sure if I'm ready to say goodbye to all we were. Be with me. Stay with me. Just for now. Let the time decide. When I won't need you.
Sitting up in her bed she hit the alarm off, looking around her tiny apartment. Pictures hung on the walls of sculptures and landmines of places she had never been. She wished she could put pictures of her friends up, making her apartment a bit more 'homey' at least in the sense of the real her but she couldn't...so she dealt with it as best as she could.
Throwing her covers back she stepped off her bed, immediately turning to make it before even leaving the bed area. It was something she had gotten used to doing over the years, always needing to make sure she didn't leave any evidence behind. She couldn't do anything about her hair or her fingerprints but at least if someone came into her apartment they'd never know if she had been there the night before or not. It helped to keep her whereabouts a mystery. Something she had gotten almost shockingly good at over the years.
Her bedspread and pillow cases were white with purple flowers on them, which was pretty much the theme of her studio apartment. The only room that had a door to it was the bathroom and that was tiny as well. Walking out of her 'bed area' she had it blocked off with a large bookcase. Inside it were boxes and such that really were only for show. She didn't own much anymore, trying to keep herself from having too much that she couldn't live without. She had bought a lot of the books when one of the local bookstores she had been near while living in Florida at one time was going out of business. On the other side was a white couch and white entertainment center that doubled as a dresser that came with the apartment. She had made it her own by adding two purple throw pillows.
Walking towards the 'kitchen' area the carpeting stopped and the hardwood flooring started. She had a tiny wooden table along with two white chairs and then a washing machine/dryer and a stove across from one another. A microwave was seated on the edge of the counter and she had a few cabinets above them. Walking through the hallway was the door to exit the apartment. It was tiny but really, what else did she need? She had no one in her life anymore, it was just her, so what was the point of having a large apartment?
Slipping into her clothing she grabbed her back and headed out the door, needing to get out of her tiny cracker jack box of an apartment before she went insane. Slipping into her car she immediately drove out of Mystic Falls and into Richmond, heading towards the nearest book store. She needed something to occupy her mind from the fact that today was the first day in over five years she hadn't worn her engagement ring. She felt almost naked without it but she figured it was time.
Time to move on from the past.

MMaria had finally reached a sense of happiness in her life and she had to admit it was quite strange. She had been simply living through the moments, going through the motions for so long that she had apparently forgotten how to live and now that she was given a chance to really live, she felt like she would be able to wake up at any moment. It was a dangerous path that she was currently on. She was not being as careful as she should have been. She had been so used to live her life hiding all the time and yet now that was slipping from her fingers.
She woke up early and looked around the motel room. She really would need to get her own place soon. Well first she needed to find a more paying job. She was working in a small café but they didn’t have a lot of hours to give her and truth be told, Maria was rather tired of living that kind of life. She wanted to be able to have a real job, she didn’t want to be a waitress forever. But with her lack of education it made things harder.
She streached her arms above her head before going to the bathroom and taking a quick shower before getting dressed quickly. She hated living out of a suitcase so the less time she spent in her hotel room the better. She figured she would get a coffee and then walk around town and see if perhaps there was a store she had missed, a place of work she had yet to bring her CV to. Anything to help her get back on the right track. Maybe she would stop by the school and see if they had night classes she could attend. If she really wanted to get herself back on track she would need to make her own changes. And getting a better education was one of them, she simply had no idea what she wanted to do.
Maria went outside and took her car and drove down the streets but she didn’t have time to stop at the coffeeshop when she saw heading down the streets. With a silly grin she started to follow her friend. She was unsure if Liz had seen her and she didn’t want to take the chance to lose her. Of course, Maria could always call her and ask where she was and meet her there but where was the fun in that right?
Slipping into her clothing she grabbed her back and headed out the door, needing to get out of her tiny cracker jack box of an apartment before she went insane. Slipping into her car she immediately drove out of Mystic Falls and into Richmond, heading towards the nearest book store. She needed something to occupy her mind from the fact that today was the first day in over five years she hadn't worn her engagement ring. She felt almost naked without it but she figured it was time.
Of course following someone who was always on the run was not smart so Maria made sure to wave at Liz and hoped that her friend would either see her or at least recognise her car. But she also didn’t want to take the chance of freaking her best friend out. They were all dealing with so much, there was no need to add to it.

- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -She was barely paying attention to other than simply being lost inside her head. Turning her attention to the people walking by she started to analyze them one by one. A teacher like herself, though this one was either a college professor by the outfit or one of those teachers who clearly thought that they should ‘dress to impress’ which meant a suit that was a bit too large on her and a briefcase. Some sort of coach by the look of him as he had a track suit on, though his face was pulled up in a grin so it was clear he loved what he did by the fact that he had clearly run into either one of his players or a former player and was quite excited about it. Seeing a man in a suit made her freeze up for a moment as it always did, her eyes trained on him to see where he would go. She had learned a lot about the FBI over the years, researching them as much as she could. She knew their tells, and for the most part she knew how to spot them.
Breathing a sigh of relief as she saw another impeccably dressed woman and two children run up to him and embrace him, clearly not the hardassed FBI agent she thought he was. Shaking her head to herself she turned her attention elsewhere, realizing that her paranoia was slowly getting to her. She needed a vacation. Granted, one who didn’t know her situation could easily say that her entire life was a vacation but it clearly wasn’t…not at all.
Pulling her attention away from her people watching she her heard phone go off, something that always sent a small chill up her spine to be honest. She never knew who was calling her being that not many people had her number. She noted it was a text message from Dean, a man that she had met over the years and had actually helped her learn how to cover her tracks a bit better. She had sent him a text message the night before, wanting him to be informed about some of the new technology that she had heard about. The text message was simple, just a note that said they needed together. She replied in the affirmative and put her phone back in her purse, looking up just in time to see her best friend. Hmm…wonder what she was doing out today. Liz hadn’t talked to her friend since they had met up with Michael a few days ago.
The brunette waved at her friend and shot her a small smile. For the first time in what seemed like ever she felt awkward around the blonde…and she couldn’t help but dislike the sensation.

Maria did feel bad that she had barely been talking to Liz since she had gotten here. It was not that she didn’t want to see her best friend but a lot of things were going on right now. And well Maria was far too happy to have Michael back and Liz aswell but of course there was something about her and Michael. For once they could be together again and she didn’t think her life could be better. Of course she knew that things for Liz were not that easy. But she wanted to make sure that her friend knew that she would be there for her no matter what. And maybe it was about time that she actually meet up with Liz and tried to figure out how her friend was really doing. It was easy to say you were fine but Maria knew that Liz was anything but fine. She just didn’t know how terrible her friend was doing. Thankfully the universe had decided it was about time that the two friends actually meet up.
After looking around a bit, Maria find a spot where she could park her car and figured that Liz would do the same. She hated having to meet Liz in public because she knew that it meant that the two women might not be able to be as honest with each other as they wanted. But sometimes you didn’t just do what you wanted to do, you did what you needed to do and if she had to meet Liz in such a moment so be it. And beside they could also leave for somewhere more quiet.
Maria was all smile when she noticed that Liz had actually seen her. Once her car was parked she walked out and waited for Liz to join her. Perhaps the could enter the little café not so far from here. It was not really a quiet place and a lot of the kids around here went there to simply hang. But it would be the best place to talk without having someone listening to them at any given moment. She took her phone out and look at the time. Yeah the place should be buzzing with people or almost there she believed. Maria was actually really worried for Liz and she hoped that her friend was doing okay.

- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -Seeing Maria park her car she briefly thought about continuing to walk as to not draw attention to them but then she figured that always being alone would draw more attention and put that notion on the back burner. She hated the way that they had to live these days…always looking over their shoulders to make sure that no one was paying any attention to them. Maria was the one she honestly felt the worst for because she had an out and she couldn’t take it because she loved Michael too much. She was really the only true human any longer and that made her the only safe one…yet she chose to go with them and in the end had to go on the run for safety sake.
Maria had never been one that liked being alone so she knew that the separation from Michael and most likely her as well had taken its toll on Liz’s best friend. She herself had never really minded being separated for a brief amount of time from those that she loved. She had taken off to Florida the summer after she learned about Max’ secret identity, though it had been because she had learned that Tess was actually his chosen mate. She had separated herself from the group after she had faked sleeping with Kyle in order to let Max get together with Tess.
Of course both of those plans had backfired on more levels that she could have possibly imagined at the time, however either way she had done it and it hadn’t been that hard. Sure it had hurt like hell to not be in the in crowd so to speak but she had dealt with it a lot better than Maria would have. She loved her best friend but staying out of the thick of things wasn’t something she was good at. Even when she and Michael had broken up because she wanted out she still had to know everything.
Walking over to Maria’s car she smiled at the blonde. “Hey stranger.” She told her, leaning over to give her a brief hug. She noted that people almost seemed to relax not that she wasn’t some weirdo walking by herself all the time and this strengthened her resolve to hanging out with her friend today. “I don’t know about you but I’m interested in seeing if anyone makes a better smoothie than we used to. You up for it?” She asked hopefully.

-------------------------- [/b] --------------------------[/b]
These past years had been hard on Maria, she hated loneliness and being stuck with herself. At first she had tried to make friends but that had not worked for the longest time. Because if she was honest with herself she was forever looking for versions of her current friends. She was always looking for someone like Liz, someone like Max, like Isabel, Kyle, Alex. And of course none of the people she meet could ever compete with her friends. She should have known better than that. So in the end, she had a few acquaintances but never people she felt like she could really be friends with. And it had been hard on her. she had often felt like she was just about to lose her mind over all of this.
But now things were changing and Maria could finally be happy about what life was giving her. she had some of her friends back but she also knew that the fact that she had Michael back while Max still gone was hard on her best friend and she wished there was something she could do. Anything at all. She had wanted to ask Michael about it. But she was afraid that it was also a touchy subject for him. Max was not only his best friend but more like a brother than anything. So instead she kept quiet about it for now. But of course being Maria she had many questions, too many things she wanted to know.
She had tried to let go of them but she had never been able to. Each and everyone of them were too much a part of her for her to be able to do such a thing. She still needed to know that they were okay but she also wanted to know what was going on with them. She was unsure if it was because she was jealous, curious or because she cared. Most likely than anything it was a bit of all of it at the same time. There were people you simply could not let go of and they were part of it. All of them.
Maria held Liz close for a few seconds before letting go. Every time she saw Liz, she almost felt as if it could very well be the last time she would ever see her. she wanted to make sure to enjoy every moment she got to spend with her best friend. ‘’Are you really sure that someone could ever make a better smoothie than we ever did?’’ she asked raising an eyebrow. She was really doubtful of such a thing. ‘’but of course I`m down for it.’’she said as she took her friend’s arm and lead her away. ‘’how are you?’’

- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -She laughed at the question about the smoothies. “Well I doubt that any of them will be as good as our Blood of an Alien smoothies.” She told her, whispering the last words so that only Maria would be able to hear her. “However at least they might have some normal flavors. Maybe even use a machine that wasn’t held together with ductape and some Czechoslovakian hocus pocus.” She told her, again saying the other words softly. She didn’t use the ‘A’ word if she could help it, only using it in dire situations, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t allude to it using code words that they had come up with at the age of sixteen.
Nodding over to the bookstore she smiled. “There is a café and smoothie bar inside the bookstore…I figure that’s probably a good place to start.” She told her with a shrug before linking their arms and walking towards Borders Books. She found it ironic that this was one of the only towns that still had a Borders since most of them had gone out of business. She had been highly depressed when that happened as Barnes and Noble was so expensive and Borders tended to carry books that she couldn’t find other places.
Hearing her best friend’s question she smiled, though anyone who knew her would see the pain behind it. “I’m fine. Besides I don’t want to mope and talk about me, I want to hear about you and Michael!” She told her with a forced grin. “Come on, don’t hold back on me. How was it seeing each other after all these years?” She asked her, hoping that she sounded interested because she truly was. She loved Maria…and Michael in his own Michael-ish way…and wanted nothing more for them to be happy.
It was hard seeing the glowing look on her friend’s face because she wished more than anything she could have that too. She missed having someone wrapping their arms around her and holding her if she needed it, that feeling that someone out there loved you more than anything. She hadn’t felt that in a long time and doubted she would ever feel it again. She had spoken to Michael several times over the past five years only because her visions had given her warning of when he was going to do something stupid, but not once had she talked to Max. She briefly wondered if he had found someone else but shook the thought off. She didn’t need to think about that now.
Now was best friend time…and she’d be damned if she ruined it with thoughts of Max Evans.

Maria couldn’t help but laugh at the mention of the previous drink they use to serve. Really the crashdown sure had the strangest drinks when it came to names but at the same time people loved it. So if it worked why not? It had been Roswell after all and people loved those things. ‘’yes both those were the things that made it so great.’’ Yes the machine they used had seen some better days but at the same time it had been what had made it so great as far as she was concern. ‘’But yes I`m all for a different flavor.’’ She pointed out her smile growing wide after the mention of the Czechoslovakian. While it had been the code word they had come up with years ago. It still was a fond memory in her heart. Reminded her of when things were complicated and yet more simple than it was not.
‘’well faith is apparently on our side.’’ She pointed out with a smile. ‘’I think we should make a list of all the places that carry smoothies around here and try them all.’’ She proposed. ‘’there should be that many so it’s doable and we could make a chart and figure out which is the closest to the one we use to make.’’ Of course she knew they would never be able to find the same taste than they had before but still it could be good to find another place where they could call a hangout place. The crashdown was long gone and she figured they needed something like that.
With a shake of her head looked at her friend. ‘’parker that is more likely the fakest smile I have ever seen.’’ She said softly. She kew her friend was in pain and she hated to see it. She wanted her friend to be happy, if there was one person who deserved to be happy it was Liz. Maria couldn’t help but grin at the mention of Michael. ‘’Really Liz, it’s like nothing I could have ever dreamed of. I’m so happy to finally have him around. I mean I waited for this moment for so long and I was never even sure if I would be able to get it and now there it is.’’ She added.
She didn’t want to talk about it too much, she didn’t want to brag to her friend who had yet to have her soulmate by her side. Once they were inside, Maria took Liz to the counter so they could order their smoothies and then find a quiet corner to talk. ..We just need to figure out what our next step is going to be.’’ Maria added as she waited in line she didn’t want to gush about Michael too much but at the same time she felt like once she had started to talk, she would not be able to stop. But she was just so happy with what life was giving her right now and yet at the same time she was also scared, she knew that things would never fully be easy and it was only a matter of time before life threw her something she would be unsure that she could deal with. ‘’so what are you getting? It’s on me.’’

- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -Looking down as she twiddled her necklace she contemplated her outfit, drying desperately to push all thoughts of Max Evans out of her head. Her shirt was different than ones she usually wore. It was a capped sleeved purple shirt that had shirring on the sides which helped make her torso look longer. She had always been petite but it seemed like she looked even shorter since she had gotten her womanly curves. Pairing the purple shirt with a pair of black trousers, purple heels and a black and white bag she knew she looked the part of a young teacher but she still felt as if maybe she drew too much attention to herself.
Hearing Maria’s voice she turned her attention back to her, glad that she had successfully pushed thoughts of her wayward fiancé out of her head until she was at her apartment alone where she was free to sulk and daydream about the way things could have been. The smile that Maria gave her brought on a more genuine smile, though still pretty damn fake as far as she was concerned. “I’m all for trying a bunch of different smoothie places. I need something that’s low fat to keep me in shape.” She stated, patting her flat stomach and rolling her eyes. That was one thing that she had never had to worry about. Even working at the Crashdown and eating the alien themed food hadn’t caused her to gain weight and working there could cause anyone to gain weight. Luckily she never had to worry about it so it worked out well for her.
“I doubt we’ll find any that are that great but even semi okay would work for me. The last smoothie I had was at Dairy Queen and let me tell you it was gross. I could almost taste the grease in it and it was a damn smoothie!” She told her, hoping she would let her slide on the fake smiles she had given her.
Unfortunately she knew better and was definitely not that lucky. Hearing Maria call her by her last name startled her and she shot her a glare. “Smith.” She muttered under her breath, hoping she would understand that she hadn’t gone by Liz Parker in a long time and she didn’t intend to by that now. She needed her to remember in case things went nuts again and they had to split up. At least this time they’d know what the other one was going under. She was Claudia Smith now, and would be until they knew they were safe.
Walking into the café she quickly ordered a cherry smoothie, figuring she would go for something basic to test it and then branch out once she tasted the basics. Smiling her thanks at her best friend she quickly grabbed a table. “Okay, so spill.” She told her again. “I haven’t seen your pretty face in years and I want to hear all about how you made you know who drop the bad boy act and fall all over you again. So come on, tell me.” She told her, the smile on her face being genuine this time, truly happy for her friends.

Maria wanted to know what was going on in her friend’s mind, she was deeply worried for her and had no idea what she was supposed to do. If only they had Isabel around perhaps the woman would be able to dreamwalk Max and they could find out where he was. It was not fair that Maria was able to have her fariry tale when her best friend was not able to. If Maria and Michal could actually be together than it was only fair that the same rules applied to Max and Liz. While Maria and Michael’s love story had always been complicated, the one of Max and Liz’s was also complicated but on a deeper level.
Maria and Michael were complicated because it was part of their personality, Max and Liz’s story was complicated because everything had been placed to make it so. It was unfair really. Max and Liz were soulmate and their love story should have been the easiest out of all of them but in the end they were the one who had had the worst time. After everthing they had been through they were still engaged and that was something. Maria didn’t even want to think about the fact that she was unsure fif her relationship with Michael would have lasted through all of that. She wanted to believe so. ‘’you are stick as they come…’’ she told her friend with a worried laugh. It was true that Liz had always been slim but at the same time she wondered if perhaps there was something deeply wrong with her friend. While had grew up and had gotten some curves she was still slim and Maria wondered if perhaps her friend was not too slim but she didn’t want to mention it right now. So far Liz didn’t look sick she simply look sad…which was really just as bad if not worst.
At the mention of Dairy Queen, Maria wriggled her nose. ‘’no Dairy Queen should simply be for like ice cream not something like a smoothie.’’ She said. while she really did like their blizzards’ she was not about to try something else there. ‘’yeah we need to find another place to get smoothie that won’t make you feel like you are drinking French fries or something like that.’’ She added with a laugh.
Her lips turned into a thin line quickly. How could she have been so stupid? She really to restart being more careful, ever since she had come here, Maria had started to feel more secure which had made her act a lot less carefuly. She really needed to go back to looking over her shoulder and thinking before acting or even talking for that matter. She gave a sharp nod of her head to let her friend know she had gotten the message.
After ordering her usual peach smoothie, Maria followed Liz to the table she had picked for them. Once they were seated Maria smiled again. She felt like her face was about to crack with the constant smiling and what not. ‘’I really didn’t do anything I mean you know I have not spoken to him since well since we all went away.’’ She said softly. ‘’I guess that he just grew up but at the same time I know he is still the same you know? Maybe just a more mature version of himself.’’ She explained. ‘’but yea I think that this time around it could…work you know? I think that if we play our cards right…we might actually make it.’’ Of course if they had to run again she had no idea how that was going to work out.

- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -She carefully twiddled with her necklace as she tried to pull her thoughts away from the past and onto the future. She knew that she had to get over things that happened in Roswell and learn how to live the life that she had been given, but it was more difficult than she could imagine. She briefly wondered what it would have been like if Future Max had never come back however she stopped that before it started. She knew what the world would be like. She would have 14 years and then the end of the world would come...then again...what was the point? The world might end anyway since Tess had turned traitor. Again, no time to think about that now.
She laughed once again at hearing the offhand comment about dairy queen. It was clear to someone just watching that she was having a hard time paying attention so she knew her best friend would pick up on it as well, no matter how many years they had been apart. She and Maria were like sisters all while growing up. They knew each other better than anyone else and if there was one person who could get through to her and into her mind with the exception of Max’s alien connection it would be Maria…which was what worried her.
She knew that Maria would see right through her and she wasn’t sure how to tell Maria what was going on. She knew that the blonde had some idea of what had gone on since arriving in Mystic Falls though she couldn’t remember if she had told her about meeting Zan or not…and if she hadn’t…had Michael? This whole thing was crazy and confusing and she hated not knowing where she stood with people. However the main issue in her mind was that she was lonely and that wasn’t something that she was used to. She was used to being around people so being pushed into a world where she couldn’t make friends…it had been harder than she thought.
Hearing Maria's comments about Michael growing up and how they might make it work this time made her smile, this time a genuine smile. "He has grown up. I talked to him a couple of times throughout the past few years, only when I had a nightmare..." She emphasized, knowing that Maria would understand her code for visions. "He seemed like every time I talked to him he was a bit more with it. And then after awhile I didn't get anymore nightmares so I'm guessing your right...that he grew up." She told her with a smile.
"As for the two of you making it. You two are some of the most stubborn people in the world...so if anyone could make it...it would be you two." She told her, reaching over and placing her hand over Maria's, squeezing it in a sign of reassurance before taking her hand back and going back to fiddling with her necklace.

-------------------------- [/b] --------------------------[/b]
Maria hated to see her friend feeling like this. Even if Liz had not told her about how she was feeling it didn’t mean that she didn’t know that she could not guess. The pain was written all across her beautiful features. They might not have been old but the eyes of Liz reminded her just how much stuff her friend had been dealing with in the past. How much pain she had been put thought in the past few years. It was unfair. And if Maria could share the burden with her friend she would do so in a heartbeat. Together they could get through this far more easily than one person alone.
Even after the many years the two women had spent apart even after everything they had lived on each their side, Maria still felt a strong connection to Liz, something she was sure no one else would ever be able to understand. It was like there was a link between the two women, something stronger than she could explain. And the laugh she heard sound the alarm in her head, there was something going on, something more than meet the eyes, something that Liz didn’t want to share with Maria but she would not have a choice, Maria would not let this go. She would be there for her friend whether the dark hair woman wanted to or not.
But at the same time she didn’t want to rush Liz into talking to her, she wanted to make sure her friend had time to get at ease with her. It was strange to feel like your best friend the person you knew the more in your life didn’t want to share something with you. But she did her best not to take it too personally which was hard considering the fact that Maria had a tendency of taking everything personally, to turn things on her when there was no need for it. It was a bad habit she had and knew was very well aware of it. Or at least she had started to be aware of it but it had taken some time for her to actually realise it.
Her eyes grew wide at the mention of the nightmares but only for a second, only Liz would have most likely noticed it. She didn’t like to think about the fact that Michael had not been keeping out of trouble. But thankfully if she believed what Liz was saying it had stopped at some point. It was strange to know that Liz had managed to see more of Michael in the past few years that Maria had and not only that but she had also been able to see him grow up from the teenager to the man he was now.
“I hope you are right.” she said before giving her friend a small smile and taking a sip of her drink. “But what about you Claudia, how are you really doing and don’t lie.” She added raising a finger as if she was warning her.

- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -As soon as she mentioned her nightmares, I.E. her visions, she immediately wished she hadn’t. Maria’s eyes widened and if they would have been in a private place she knew that her best friend would have started yelling. She knew better than anyone how hot tempered Michael tended to be which led to a lot of bad things happening. Michael had gotten into more than one sticky situation over the years because he preferred to jump into situations rather than thinking them through. It was one of the reasons that he and Max had always butted heads because Max was a planner while Michael was a doer.
It was a very strange friendship in her opinion. However Maria knew that first hand that Michael got something into his head and he ran with it. The key to Atherton’s house was a prime example. He not only broke into the Sheriff’s office to get the key, he then broke into the UFO center in order to get some information on Atherton, afterwards when Max told him that they wouldn’t go with him he then kidnapped Maria’s car (with Maria intact) and drove out to Marathon. Thankfully Maria was a worrier which allowed her, Isabel and Max to find them which led to numerous discoveries. However they were almost caught not only by the Sheriff but also by the FBI, neither of which would have been a good thing at the time.
"What are you talking about?" She asked playfully, hoping to dispel the somber note of the conversation. "I'm always right. Didn't you know? I know everything?" She asked, tapping her finger to her temple, clearly exaggerating at her abilities.
Relieved that Maria seemed to remember her code name she shrugged, trying to downplay it but at the same time knowing that Maria wouldn’t let her get away with outright lying. “I’m okay.” She answered. “Though work is rough. Starting in the middle of a new year as a teacher can be a bit trying. All the kids think that I’m a pushover because I’m young so they weren’t too pleased when they realized that I would actually assign them homework and detention if they didn’t do the work.” She stated, her eyes lighting up ever so slightly when she talked about work. She had always loved Biology and while she may not have been where she had always dreamed of, she was still at least getting to work in the science field.
“As for the personal life, not really much to tell. Single as always.” She stated, her hands on the table clearly showing that she no longer wore her ring. Of course if Maria would see her necklace that was tucked inside her shirt she would see the ring hanging from a chain however she had stopped herself from wearing her ring after too many questions about the supposed husband or fiancé. It drew too many questions and then caused a pang in her heart one too many times.

Maria was glad she had at least had enough self control to keep her reaction to her eyes only. Instead of throwing a well known Maria fit. If this had been years ago she would have said something but now…well she was better at trying to keep her head down so people didn’t notice her or at least what was going on. Her mind was racing as she wondered what kind of trouble Michael had gotten into. While it was good to know that he had changed and that he was being more careful just knowing he had managed to get into a lot of trouble before it kind of hurt. She wished she could have been there for him instead of Liz.
But the important thing was that he was keeping safe now, trying to stay out of trouble. It was really all she could ask for him right now. Because truth was, no matter how much he grew up, he would forever be Michael. Most of the time he would be running head first into something without thinking, he had done so many times before and Maria didn’t expect him to change quickly. And even if she had wanted him to change deep down she still wanted to be able to find her old Michael, the one who had kidnapped her. Their relationship was forever complicated and she knew that they would keep fighting like their lives depended on it but she loved him no matter what,
“of course you know everything.” But Maria did wonder if perhaps, Liz’s ability had changed over the time. Was Liz really able to tell if Maria and Michael were actually going to make it, but after taking in the tone of voice that Liz had had used she knew that she was just playing with her.
“I’m sure that soon enough they will realise how lucky they are to have you as a teacher. I for one wouldn’t have gratudated with grades I had if it had not been of you.” She pointed out. Maria had never really been good at school. Liz had always been the smart one between the two of them. Maria remembered the many times that Liz had not only helped her with homework but had also done some of them so she would go to the camping week end with her. “But you are liking it so far?” she asked her friend wanting to make sure that she was actually happy with the job she had.
Maria raised an eyebrow as she heard Liz mentioned that she was single. She had figured that she would still say that she was with Max even after everything that was going on and then her head moved and her eyes found Liz’s hand. No ring. Her eyes looked up again, trying to find Liz’s eyes. “was is going on?” she asked her confused. She wondered if perhaps Liz had had a vision of something and that this was where it was coming from. Had Max done something?

- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -She was fairly surprised that Maria didn’t freak out at her comment about ‘dreams’ or visions as the case may be. Back in the day Maria had been one to wig out over the littlest things. She could clearly remember a conversation between the two of them early on in their induction to the ‘alien abyss’ as the blonde used to call it.
Before I go to this idiotic crash festival I want to know everything. And if you don't tell me the truth right now. I'm going to go to Valenti myself and tell him everything I know.
What do you know?
Well....uh, I-I know that Max was in the diner that day, and I know that he went up to you when you were shot and like, did something to you. And I know that the one person in the world that I thought I could completely trust, is lying to me.
You have to promise me that you are not going to flip out.
Flip out? Hey, it's me.
She could clearly remember telling Maria that Max, Michael and Isabel were aliens and her running from her house screaming, Liz herself running after her trying to calm her down. It had never been easy with Maria as she had always had dramatic tendencies but this had been the icing on the cake. Sure she had mellowed out over the next two years, something that Liz insinuated with being thanks to Michael and his craziness but she had never been mellow as the case may have been.
She could almost see where the wheels of Maria's brain were turning. "I still can't pick what I dream about." She told her honestly. She remembered another time when Maria had asked her the very same thing. All right, do you think you can tell me what's going to happen between me and Space Boy? So letting out a small smile she winked at her best friend. "Besides, It's prob'ly still beyond my capabilities."
Rolling her eyes she laughed. "You were always a lot smarter than you gave yourself credit for. Also let's not forget who bailed our high school choir out in competitions more times than anyone? Yes that's right, you. I was just a science geek who had too much time on her hands. Remember, me with no life?" She asked with a self deprecating laugh. It was true though, sure she had gotten a bit more worldly over the years once Max Evans had healed her but a lot of that time she had spent by herself since Tess was around, something she really hated to think about. "I do like teaching though. I may not be a molecular biologist but it's still science so I'm good at it." She shrugged, not letting on to how badly giving up her dreams had hurt her.
Shaking her head she smiled a small, albeit sad, smile. "Nothing. Some guy asked me out last week but he was a creeper so I said no. Besides after what happened last week with Zan...Michael did tell you about Zan didn't he?" She trailed off, not sure if Michael had mentioned Max's son or not.
That would be interesting if he had not.
