-------------------------- [/b] --------------------------[/b] Maria was overwhelmed with everything that was going on in her life right now but she didn’t think anyone could actually blame her. Coming here had never been part of her plan. Her home, well the place she lived she should say since it had never felt like home was Seattle now. And yet she had felt the need to go. She had drove no questions asked to where the road took her, it was kind of romantic when you thought about it. And she had ended up here, Mystic Fall. At first the town had not seem like much and she had figured she would spend a night or two here and then she had seen Liz and everything had started to make sense in her life again. She could finally feel like she was home and like she was whole again.
Five years. It had been five years since the last time she had seen her friends, she had known she would see them again, she just had no idea how long it would take. And right now she felt like it was a bit too much to deal with all at once, she needed some time to cool off and well she needed clothes. She had not packed a lot because when she had left it had not supposed to have been for more than a few days. But since she clearly was going to stay here for a lot longer, she could use clothes, at least until she went back to Seattle. Because she would have to do that eventually. All of her things were there, she would need to find someone to take over to apartment, because she doubted she would want to live there again. But all in due time.
Right now her main focus was getting a few pieces of clothing that she could wear and maybe something for Zan. The kid was as cute as cute could get really. She had not gotten a lot of time to know him but she knew that this would come soon enough. This place was so much like Roswell in a ways, it was a small town, everyone seemed to know everyone. She parked her car in the lot and walked inside of the mall. She had never been here before and while it didn’t look like much, she was going to treat this like an adventure. Lost in her own mind she walked from one shop to the next unable to settle on one thing. It was most likely the one time where she was not really in the mood for shopping which was something strange when you knew Maria well enough.

- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -She sighed as she finished blow drying her hair. She desperately needed to get out of this house before she went ballistic. She loved Stefan and Lexi (in completely different ways of course) but she really needed a bit of alone time. Add to that the fact that she really needed to pick up a few things, both grocery wise and for school, she figured today would be a perfect day to do so. It was sunny out so she was safe from all vampires who didn't have a day light ring (which granted that number seemed to go higher and higher every day but oh well) and Lexi and Stefan were downstairs working on something or another. She knew that she had been ordered to stay upstairs as they were working on something that she could not be a part of, but she couldn't help it. She had to get out of here.
Sliding on a teal green tank top that had lace at the top so it wasn't as low cut as some of the others that were out now, she grinned at the color against her skin. It had been a long time since she had felt good about herself and figured that since today she was doing things she wouldn't normally do anyway, might as well go all out. Pairing the teal green tank top with a blue jean shirt, a brown belt and her black flats that were more comfortable than most tennis shoes, she was good to go. She quickly took her necklace out of her drawer, sliding that one and placing it underneath the shirt so no one could see it. Neither Stefan nor Lexi knew she had gone to get it so she didn't want to open up that can of worms. She had a bracelet that they both knew had vervain in it but no one knew that it was from Damon, so neither objected to her wearing it. However she wanted to wear her necklace...it felt more like her.
Grabbing her black bag and her pair of Ray-Bans she was good to go...now came the hard part, sneaking out.
Luckily it didn't take as much effort as she thought so within a few minutes she was in her car speeding towards the Town Square. She felt guilty for a few moments before realizing that with the time they were spending in the basement doing whatever it was that they were doing to help Stefan with his control, she might be back before they even noticed. If not, it would be worth it.
She slid into a parking spot and quickly jumped out, heading to the side walk so she could window shop and see if there was anything she wanted before going to do the shopping that she needed. She groaned when she heard a cell phone that sounded remarkably like hers, so not paying a bit of attention to anything around her she started digging into her purse, trying to find her cell phone which would not shut off. Unfortunately she again, wasn't paying attention to what she was doing and ended up running into someone. Looking up she met the eyes of a girl who luckily hadn't fallen but she had knocked into her. "I am so sorry!" She told her, wincing as she realized her own purse had fallen but wanting to apologize before she picked it up. "I wasn't watching where I was going and clearly I cannot multi-task." She stated, her tone apologetic.

-------------------------- [/b] --------------------------[/b] Part of Maria kind of missed Seattle. Mystic fall was a lot smaller and she was not sure how she felt around here. Of course with her family being here with her, there was no way she was going to go anywhere else unless she had to run or they were coming with her. She had been away from them for far too long and she was not about to go through that again. Her life was with them and for the first time in years, she finally felt complete. And yet there was something about this place that annoyed her. She couldn’t put her finger on it, it could very well be because she still didn’t know why she had felt like she had to be here. The pull to the town was confusing her, scaring her.
Shopping would do her some good. At least usually it did her good. No matter what happened in her life, shopping could help her. But not today. Nothing catched her eye which was not something that happened quite often. Was she really forcing herself to shop? now that was something completely different. Maybe she do some window shopping, get her mind off from things and try to get her nerves back on track. She had been numbed by her usual routine but now that everything was changing, she felt like she was feeling for the first time, like everything was new to her. She would figure it out, she would get passed it because she could get pass everything, it might take her some time but she knew that she could do it. She was strong and this was just a bit too much all at once. Soon she would find a way to deal with it and move on. Finally be happy. She just hoped that she would not have to run again. She didn’t think that her heart could handle losing everyone again.
If someone asked Maria what she had seen at the store today, she didn’t think she would be able to answer. Everything that she saw in the stores didn’t register with her. And it didn’t take long before she was sent back into the real world. Looking into a store and walking at the same time was not a good idea. She felt her body collide into someone else’s.
Maria looked up quickly. “I’m so sorry.” She said at the same time as the girl before laughing. “Don’t worry I was apparently doing the same thing.” She added. “I tend to think and look around and end up acting like the mall is fully mine and that no one is around here but me.” She smiled. “Are you okay?” she asked making sure that the girl had not been hurt when bumping into her. She was unsure really whose fault it was but it didn’t matter really.

- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -She laughed softly when the other girl agreed with her about not being able to multi task. "I'm fine." She told her with a laugh. "Are you okay?" She asked, hoping that she hadn't hurt the girl. She wasn't sure really who had walked into whom, but it didn't really matter. It seemed as if neither of them had been paying attention to where they were going so a collision was probably inevitable. Luckily for them they had collided with another person rather than something that could have really hurt them. It wouldn’t be the first time Elena had done that either so she was grateful it hadn’t happened again.
Looking in the window of the store next to her as she waited for Maria to reply, she noted a gorgeous dress that would look great with her complexion, but noted with a frown that she really had no place to wear it to. She used to have all types of functions that she needed dresses for but recently with everything going on in her life it hadn't been that frequent of an occurrence. Add to that the fact that her boyfriend had only recently been brought back to the 'human' side of things which meant she hadn't had a date in what seemed like forever, it had been a long time since she had been anywhere that required a dress.
Speaking of which, she turned back to the girl and tried to figure out if she could place her. Mystic Falls was a fairly small town so usually everyone knew everyone. It was one of the reasons that the Salvatore brothers had stuck out like sore thumbs when they had rolled into town. Usually people grew up in this town and yet for some reason Elena wasn't sure she had ever seen the woman in front of her. She didn't look that much older than Elena herself, maybe a couple years at most, which meant that she should at least recognize her, but for the life of hers he couldn't place her.
“So not to be nosy or anything, but are you new around here?” She asked her before realizing how ridiculous she sounded and laughed. “Sorry, what I mean is that being that this is a small town everyone sort of knows everyone, and I don’t think I’ve seen you around.” She told her, realizing that justifying her reasoning was a lost cause until the woman answered her…and even then she wasn’t sure she wouldn’t think that Elena was some weirdo.

-------------------------- [/b] --------------------------[/b] “oh yeah totally fine, I guess my years of walking around not looking where I’m going made me tougher or something.” She laughed. Maria had always been the girl who didn’t look where she was going. Or simply running around and hoping for the best. At least she had not run into someone that would be really mad and throw a fit at her for not being cautious enough. It had happened to her before and she didn’t want to have to deal with that again. People could be so mean sometimes. It was quite sad really. But at least usually in small towns people were more kind to one another. At least this is what she had found by living in both types of places.
Her eyes followed Elena’s to the store where a pretty dress was. She had been about to mention that it would look good on her but she figured that it would be a really strange conversation to have with someone you had just meet. Over the past years, Maria had developed an eye for fashion. Back they had all been together most of the fashion advice had always felt on Isabel but when she had found herself on her own, she had develop her own taste and her own fashion style.
Her eyes looked back at Elena almost as the same time as the girl started to eye her. For a moment Maria started to feel afraid. The girl looked to you to be an FBI agent but at the same time looks could be deceiving. What if this girl had been stalking her since Maria got here? Her blood ran cold and she felt like running. But running would only prove that she was guilty of something right? It was better to stay put for the moment and hope for the best. Give the girl the benefit of the doubt. But still be on her guards for anything strange that would happen. It was not like she was not always and forever on her guard. Always looking over her shoulder in case something was to happened. In case someone had figured out who she was.
“Oh no not nosy at all. Yeah I’m like a brand new shiny penny around here.” She laughed again. “I was in Seattle and recently found my way around here.” She said her mind still spinning making sure that she had her stories straight if the girl asked more questions. “I’m Lucy.” She said using her fake name. she was not ready to use her real name around someone she didn’t really know. The only people that knew her name were her now family.

- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -She laughed at the girl’s comment about not looking where she was going. “No I completely understand…I must have broken my arm when I was a kid about five different times because I would always be looking at something and would trip over something and end up getting hurt. Thank god my father was a doctor or else someone would have thought that I was being abused.” She stated with a laugh, remembering how the hospital at one time had actually thought that.
Her mother had brought her in for a sprained ankle and she had bruises all over her, ones that she couldn’t remember how she got (she was six at the time). It was a new doctor who was treating her (all the other doctors knew who she was and knew who her father was) and had sent her mother out of the room before questioning her if she had been hurt at home and all of the normal questions that doctors ask when they try and figure out if a patient is being harmed in anyway. She of course took it the wrong way and said that her brother had pulled her hair the other day and then started telling him all the injustices of being a six year old when her father came in and started asking to see her chart and such. The doctor’s face had been so red!
She laughed again when the girl said that she was the new shiny penny. "Ahhh, gotcha. Well let me just warn you that people will talk to you a bunch and want to know everything about you...we don't get a whole lot of new pennies around here." She told her with a long suffering smile, remembering how it was when the Salvatore boys had rolled into town, causing a lot of uproar between the townspeople, especially those of the female variety. "I'm Elena Gilbert." She introduced, knowing it was absolutely pointless not to give her full name, everyone in town knew her anyway...unfortunately for her.
"So not to be crazy creepy or anything but did you want to walk around with me? I feel bad that I literally almost bludgeoned you to death with my out there ways and I figure this way at least you won't be attracting all the weirdo’s who are going to jump on the new shiny penny." She stated, for some reason liking the analogy of the shiny penny and using it to her benefit. She wasn't sure why she was asking to hang out with the new girl as this wasn't usually her way...but she figured she would be nice. After all it was better than going home and sitting around waiting for Lexi and Stefan to stop doing whatever they were doing long enough to hang out with her for a bit.

“See I have always been lucky about those things. I’ve never broken anything.” She smiled. “of course now I have just jinxed it and will most likely end up in the hospital by the end of the week.” She added with a slight frown. “maybe you should show me where the closest hospital is, you know just in case.” Hopefully it would not come to that. Maria hated hospitals and was afraid of feeling pain. So breaking something was not high on her list of priorities.
Even breaking a nail was something really painful in Maria’s mind. Thakfully she now kept them short because of her guitar playing but she could easily remember a moment where she had broken a nail and had felt like it had been the end of the world. Not because she was that much of a girly girl but because it had been far too painful as far as she was concern. So she considered herself rather lucky to have never been in the hospital when you added how much of a klutz she was and the danger she had been put through back in high school, it was almost a miracle that she had never hurt herself more.
Maria laughed. “Yeah most people in small towns get over excited when a new penny comes around.” Just like when Tess had showed up. She hated to think about that girl after everything she had put them through but it was easy to remember how much people had been talking about her. Thing had not worked out of course and they all new how that story had ended. “Pleasure to meet you Elena.” If everyone was as nice as she was, she could actually like it here.
“sure that would be great!” she said. “But wait are you just saying that so you can be seen with the new penny?” Maria asked laughing as she was of course kidding. “I think I might be taking that analogy a bit too far. But you can still call me shiny penny or Lucy.” For a moment she had almost said Maria. You would think that after spending so much time leading a double life she would have gotten used to it by now. “But yes let’s walk together who knows, maybe we will managed to make sure that we don’t run into someone else?”

- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -She laughed again when the woman in front of her said that she had never broken anything, then before she could say it, she continued with saying that she had probably jinxed it. “Oh that definitely wouldn’t surprise me.” She told her honestly, her smile lighting up her whole face. “That’s happened to me more times than I can count.” She stated, though as she said this her eyes dimmed a bit as the prime example of this flooded to her memory.
She had said those exact words a few days before the car accident with her parents. She couldn’t remember who she had been talking to but they had been talking about how they had wrecked two cars since turning sixteen, something that she knew was extremely ridiculous since the person she had been talking too was the same sage as she was. Elena had stated something along the lines of how no one in her family had ever even been in an accident, and then realized afterwards that she had jinxed it. Laughing it off she said that very thing, that now that she had said that it wouldn’t be long before she herself was in an accident.
Only a couple days later she was at the bottom of the lake, sure she was going to die, her mother already gone and her father trying to do whatever he could to get her out.
She closed her eyes for a brief moment before opening them again, all sadness out of her eyes as she pushed back those memories to the very corner of her mind. She refused to think about any of this today, wanting to take her day away from everyone that she knew and simply be for the day…that was her goal when leaving and that was she intended to do.
She giggled at the shiny penny question and shook her head. “Nah, I get too much attention in this town as it is.” She stated honestly before elaborating a bit, not wanting to go into that much detail but figuring a little detail was better than nothing. “I told you how everyone sort of knows everyone. Well that goes for the parents as well. My dad was a doctor who owned his own practice and worked at the hospital. My mom was on the chair of every committee around, and everyone who had kids my age were all sort of pushed together, which led us all to being friends or acquaintances at least for years. So no worries on the shiny penny front, I just figure that I could use someone to give me an honest opinion or two on clothing and as we all know, boyfriends are not exactly the most reliable when it comes to that.” She stated, trying to think of taking Stefan shopping with her and knowing that it would be pointless.
“So what do you say, want to go spend some money?” She asked, laughing at how much like a teenager she truly sounded in that moment.

“yeah I guess that once you tempt the universe with something like that, said universe can’t help but kick you in the face or something.” Maria added. It was good to have a conversation with someone knew. No matter how much she loved her friends it was good to get to talk about something other than the strange things that were happening in their lives. She was just getting used to being around them and after seeing Michael again and seeing that ring on his finger that had almost given her at heart attack she could use the time off. Some time away from it all. She was not thinking of leaving them of course not. But sometimes it was good to just be able to let go.
Maria noticed the sudden change in the girl, the slight moment where she closed her eyes. As if something had went on in her mind that didn’t suit her. She didn’t ask anything or acted in anyway that would mean that she had seen something. Whatever it was Maria doubted that Elena would want to share it with someone she had just meet. She knew the feeling all too well.
“oh really?” Maria asked curiously before feeling her cheek turning pink. “I’m sorry. I sometimes tend to be too curious for my own good.” She started before Elena explained what she meant. She nodded and of course she picked up on the whole past tense of her parents but figured that her parents were most likely retired or something. “yeah I guess that when you have parents that have that high of a status, people tend to know who you are.” She said softly. She had of course been known into her town but everyone knew everyone and well her mother being a single mother and had quite the history with men, of course Maria knew the feeling. “Honest opinion now that I can give. Boyfriends are useless when it comes to that. My ex could barely tell when I would get my hair change so when it came to clothes he really didn’t care.” Clearly Michael had not been the person to go to when it came to clothes advice.
“yes please.” She laughed as she started to walk into the store they had been in front of. “How about we start here, I saw you eyeing that dress and I think you really have to try it on.

- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -She couldn’t help but laugh at the comment about her ex not knowing when she got her hair done, she could totally relate. Granted Stefan would know if she did anything with her hair since she usually only wore it one way, but Matt had been horrible when it came to stuff like that. He was one of the sweetest guys in the world don’t get her wrong, but she had gotten a really bad hair cut once and it was a lot shorter than what she had wanted and he saw her the next day and didn’t even comment on it. When she asked him what he thought he finally realized that she looked a tad bit different.
“I can definitely relate.” She told her honestly. “My ex Matt who I grew up with and who was my best friend before we started dating and after we broke up sort of became my friend again…anyway, I usually wear my hair just like you see it now. Long and straight. Well my mom took me to get a haircut and it was a newer style, long layers? Apparently the stylist didn’t know the definition of ‘long’ and cut them up to my shoulders…Matt didn’t even notice until I asked him about it.” She stated, rolling her eyes again at the memory.
Elena nodded, desperately wanting to look at the blue dress that was hanging right inside the store. She quickly walked in, her eyes lighting up as she saw it. She actually had another dress like this…though it was pink and orange and a bit sparkly. She had worn it to the Founder’s Party with Stefan before she had known who he truly was…and it was a dress that she couldn’t bear to get rid of. For some reason she loved the style and it was one that she didn’t see too often, so the blue dress was definitely one that she felt needed to be put into her wardrobe.
Quickly noticing that there was one left she picked it up, looking and noticing with a grin that it was her size. “Oh, I’m in luck.” She stated to Lucy, her eyes shown in delight. “My size, last one and it’s on sale.” She probably looked a tiny bit insane but she didn’t care. She loved finding a good deal on things that she wanted as she had been brought up in a well off home but still she never took things for granted like others in her financial situation did. “Shoes and a clutch and this would be perfect for a party or a date.” She stated with a laugh. “And let me just tell you, in this town, there are parties every other week, if not more. So if you don’t have a dress or two in your wardrobe, we need to rectify that immediately.”

What was it with men never noticing stuff? There had been a point where she would change her hair all the time. With the help of Isabel she would go from short to long to blonde to brunette weekly if she wanted to and Michael would never had taken noticed. It was not that he didn’t care about her, it was just that guys apparently didn’t see those things. It had not taken long to maria to realised that if she wanted to make changes she had to make them for herself and not for Michael because she would only be disappointed and he would never really understand why. Maria laughed. “At least he noticed at some point but yeah guys and hair. They would never understand.” She said with a fake sad tone of voice. She had grew up and she didn’t really care about those things anymore. Did she want to feel pretty? Of course but she had learned to do it for herself and not for others. But still it was always nice when someone saw that you had something changed about you. Well that was if they said something nice because who wants to be told their new haircut was the ugliest thing in the world really? That blue dress sure would look wonderful on Elena. It was a color that would go perfectly with her complexion. Without a word she followed Elena and watched as Elena smiled. “It has your name all over it, it’s not luck its fate.” Maria said over dramatically. Yes it was just a dress but it was a perfect one and when you added the on sale and last one? Well it did fall into the puzzle perfectly. “You have got to try it on first so we can find matching accessories.” She said with a nod. “Every other week? Wow where I came from we were kind of lucky to have prom.” She laughed with a shrugged. There had been that party at the old shop factory but that had been years ago and had also been the only one of it’s kind. Roswell clearly was not the party city of states. There was the new year’s eve party that she had managed to find with Max and that had probably been one of the best party she would have ever attended in her life. “well I’m guessing we have to rectify that immediately then.” Maria had just moved here. She was not even fully moved yet so she didn’t have tons of pretty dresses with her. She would be in luck if she even had one with her. “what kind of party do you guys have around here?” she wondered if it was always charity things and stuff like that.

- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -She laughed a bit when Lucy agreed with her. "Trust me, I've given up trying to ask anyone's opinion. My boyfriend, whom I love dearly, he would rather tell me that he was really a woman before telling me that I looked badly. Which is all sweet and such but there are times that I really wish I could get an honest opinion from him." She stated before rolling her eyes at a memory. "Example? We here in Mystic Falls are really big into the decade dances...I mean it's pretty out there how often we have them. We have a fifty's, sixties, seventy's and this past year they are talking about doing a twenty's...so that'll tell you how into it people get. Anyway, I was trying on two outfits and he wouldn't tell me which one looked best, telling me I looked beautiful in either one. So I put on a third that was hideous, and he tells me any of the three would work well. I about clobbered him." She stated with a laugh.
“Luckily his older brother has no qualms in telling me if I look ridiculous or not so he walked in at just the right time and was like ‘You’re not wearing that’ and walked out, so that settled that.” She giggled, remembering the look on Damon’s face when he had walked in and saw her standing in the mustard yellow dress that was awful. She loved Stefan more than life but he tried to protect her feelings on everything a bit too much, though in other aspects of her life she was definitely grateful for it.
She grinned at the dramatic wording in which Lucy agreed with her. "Let's check out the dresses and then we'll head over to accessories and shoes once we get you a few dresses to try on." She stated before answering the other girl's question. "As for what type of parties, you name it, we have it." She answered with a laugh. "I told you about the decade dances but really the only places to find outfits for those are at the consignment shops around which you can either find here or a few miles up in Richmond. We also have the usual homecoming, prom, sweetheart dance, and the back to school party at the falls. Then we have at least two formal balls a year...and yes I do mean crazy big dress balls. Then we have the Founder's party, the Founder's Picnic, the Founder's Day dance, The Founder's Day parade...and then we have just random parties and dances throughout the year. There are a few charity balls and such that aren't required but look good if you attend." She listed, trying to think if she was leaving any out.
“Then of course you get the random party or dance that one of the students throw during the year. We have quite a few large houses around so whenever anyone throws a large party, it’s usually pretty dressy. Luckily most of the time anyone’s invited and it’s a great way to meet people.” The brunette thought for a moment before her eyes widened in delight. “And you’ll be happy to know that we have a Halloween party in two weeks as well as a Halloween dance the day after. The Halloween party is costume only, the Halloween dance is a dance but you have to wear Black or Orange…which is the reason it’s called the ‘Black and Orange Ball’. I still need to buy a dress and a costume for that so what do you say about trying to find those two items for you as well?” She asked, getting excited at the prospect.

-------------------------- [/b] --------------------------[/b] Maria laughed. "it's kind of nice but at the same time completely useless for you." She pointed out. Michael was not one to mention her change in looks because it was not something he often saw. But not telling someone something looked horrible to spear their feeling was kind of nice and kind of sad at the same time. While Maria was not one to be mean, if something didn't look good on someone she would make sure to tell them. She would just find a way to let them know gently. And she sure hoped that they would do the same for her. Though she was confident about her style sometimes it was nice to have another opinion than her own. But ever since she had lost her friends for five years she had found it hard to be able to ask anyone for something like that, she had a few people she talked to at work back in Seattle but no one she could really refer to as friends. "At least now you know not to trust him with fashion." She pointed out.
"Now that sure is direct. So it's good, you have the sweet adorable boyfriend and his brother to tell you when you look like a total idiot." It was kind of strange to be talking with someone she had just bumped into but Elena was nice. And beside it was not like she was about to tell her her whole life story and talk about aliens. The girl would think she was completely insane and would most likely tell her to get her head check or something along those lines and that was if she didn't call the cops or something. No she had her close friends to be able to have that conversation. The ones who were part aliens.
"yes let's because if this town as many parties as you say, I clearly need to get ready." she told her with a smile. "Because right now there is no way I can take this city with the clothes I have." Maria had brought only a small suitcase with her and anyway her clothes from back in Seattle were not ball worthy. "The decades parties actually sounds like something I would attend." She doubted she would attend many of these events; too much exposure and what not but a decade party? Now that was something she could work with. She might even be able to get Liz, Max and Michael to tag along or something. Okay she would have to work quite hard to get something like that happening but she could do it right? "I never actually went somewhere where I needed to wear a crazy big dress." She said almost sadly. This girl had been living this kind of life forever. Maria had sent most of her teen years wearing the crashdown alien costume "Where do you find the time to not only attend those parties but get ready for them?" this was beyond her.
"okay sweet cheeks you need to slow town because all those parties are making my head spin." She said with a laugh. "Now Halloween this is something I can do." She said. "So yes let's start with finding something orange and black then we can move on to the costume. And maybe other things if I see them laying around of course." She added with a laugh as she picked up a pretty light pink dress. She had never been one to be a fan of the color pink but this was, was pretty. "okay so while this clearly does not fall in those categories I think I will try it on anyway."

- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - - “The decade parties are actually really fun, especially because the teachers half the time drag out their old clothing so it’s really fun to see them try and recreate their youth.” She stated with a laugh, remembering Alaric’s old letterman’s jacket. “Then you get those teachers who are actually fairly young and try to dress up like they are from whatever decade it is and they either look really ridiculous or they get pissed off because we all ask if that’s from the real decade and if they really wore that to school, so in essence we are calling them old.” She stated, thinking about the many times she and her friends back a few years ago annoyed one of their favorite teachers.
Hearing that Lucy hadn't ever been to a ball or whatever before made her sad but she kept a smile on her face when she asked how she had time to do it all. "In this town being a part of the Founding Families has a bunch of obligations attached to it." She stated before realizing that her statement didn't really make much sense. "Here in Mystic Falls we are a tad bit obsessed with the Founder's. Most of us here have literally lived here all of our lives since the town was founded back in the 1860's. Our grandfathers, great grandfathers, etc. have all been here since forever it seems like and so because of that we celebrate it a lot. It's just something that we are required to do and while when I was younger my parents did a lot of this and we only did what we wanted to do (the kids at least)...ever since my parents died it's been mine and my brother's responsibilities." She stated honestly.
“The parties are fun and such but it gets annoying to constantly have to dress up and it gets really expensive if you get new dresses for each of them.” She stated with a nod. “Luckily there is a dress shop here that literally takes the old dresses and resells them for about half the price so after a few dances a group of us will take all the dresses we’ve only worn once and take them to the shop and buy new ones. It’s a lot less expensive that way and we get to try on a bunch of different styles.” She stated, remembering all the times that she had gone with Bonnie and Caroline to the store only to buy a dress that one of them had sold a few months before hand.
She laughed when she realized she was getting way too excited, however she could completely understand why she was acting this way. It had been a long time since she had been able to do anything that didn’t have to do with the supernatural universe or with someone who had to do with it, so she was really happy to spend some time with someone normal and human…and to also do something completely human.
Looking at the pink dress she nodded. “That’ll look really pretty with your skin tone.” She stated, picking up a bracelet that she saw sitting on a table. “Hmm…this would be pretty with it.” she told her, seeing the pink accents in it.

-------------------------- [/b] --------------------------[/b] Maria laughed. “I’m guessing the teachers probably have as much fun as you so specially if they were your age during that decade.” For a moment she wondered if in a few years, kids would dress like the people from the 90’s and what in the world would that look like. It was not like they really had a specific style. It would be intresting to see what people would come up with to reanact those years. It was not like they had a style that was specific like the one they had in the 80’s. people more or less dressed up in the way they wanted to without really asking questions. It was not really like they had a fashionstyle to follow.
Being new around here, Maria had never heard of the founding families. She would have to look into this at some point. But almost as if she was reading her mind, Elena started to explain to her what the whole thing was mostly about. When Elena mentioned the passing of her parents, Maria felt bad, she almost wanted to reach out and put her hand on the girl’s shoulder but thankfully decided against it. It would have been weird and out of place. “I’m really sorry about your parents.” She said softly. It was not like she could just act like she had not heard anything. It was not who she was. “But yeah I guess when it’s part if your family and it’s history, those things become far more important.” They didn’t have any of those things back in Roswell so she could not really imagine what it must have been like.
“yeah I can imagine it does get rather expensive at some point.” Maria had no idea how she would have been able to live in such a town. Her mother never had a lot of money and there was no way she would have been able to afford to go to all of those parties but she knew that her mother would have worked herself to the bones in order to provide for her daughter. In that moment she missed her mother. She had barely talked to her in the past five years. She would drive out of seattle to call her to make sure no one could retrace the call and she knew that she was playing with fire with doing such a thing but she could not help it. Coming back to reality, Maria smile. “well I think that is smart because why keep someone you will never wear again?”
Maria took the bracelet and slide it on her arm. “Yeah you are totally right. But now let’s focus on orange and black. I’m not even sure if I will look good in something orange.” She wondered out loud. “I don’t want to end up looking like a pumpkin or something like that.”
