This was rare, nearly two whole years ago the role of the Sin-Eater had been passed on to another individual. A younger one then last time and a boy. But due to the turmoil that surrounded the rest of the Garrison and Heaven itself when he was transitioned, he had been sent out onto the Earth without any sort of a support system, a situation that was usually reserved as a punishment, and a harsh one at that.
So, being one of the only Angels still currently active in this part of the world, (except of course for the possibility of his dear elder brother Gabriel, but the archangel was keeping much to himself and his trickery now a days.) Castiel had taken it upon himself to drop in on the newest addition to their ranks. Offer out an olive branch as it were.
Whispers had come down through the ranks about him; just little things that if angels were more apt to create their own gossip then merely report it one wouldn't even bother to credit it as anything. Special, some said psychic... abandoned and lovelorn... clear desperation... a noose...
It was stories like this that had broken his heart looking down at humanity, long before he walked among them. Now it was even worse, it was one thing to look at an emotion and say 'that is grief' or 'that is hope', it was quite another to feel it and truly watch what these emotions did to people. The desperate cry of a Lost was so much more powerful if you looked into their faces. Heroes were so much braver when you got to walk through the blood and mud with them.
This was why Castiel was looking for Orion Valentine. He felt like he needed to. Not for The Father, but for himself, for Orion if he were welcome to the offered hand of a friend or at least an ally. It sounded silly, but when he was looking for either of the Winchester boys, he usually found them in or near hotels, or hip deep in trouble. Hopefully, he wouldn't find the Sin-Eater hip deep in trouble.

Richmond was awful.
After spending weeks trying desperately to not only fit in but find people he could interact with without everything ending up around his ears. And after a brief run in with a pair of redheads, Orion was relatively certain that not only was he horrifically incapable of dealing with other people, but Richmond needed to be put behind him soon enough. Staying here was a mistake, but he didn't know where else to go. Perhaps deeper into Virginia? Or a new state entirely? What did it matter? It was always the same.
Morose, Orion ventured down from his room to the hotel bar. It was late, and incredibly busy. Business men looking for trouble, polished women, professional alcoholics and people trying to escape their pedestrian lives. Today their colors were garish to his eyes, and bitterly Orion poured himself into a barstool and weighed his head in his hands.
The vodka in it's sweat coated glass was replaced a good three times before the man at his left took offense to his presence. The chavo didn't pay attention to what the nicely dressed criminal had to say, the lack of awareness was probably enough for him to take offense to the angel being there. Lolling blue eyes up to look at him, Orion didn't even bother keeping their irritated roll from giving away his apathy. Grabbing him by the shoulders, the well-dressed thug spun Orion about on his stool. Once facing him, the Italian suit wearing Made Man didn't even pretend to hide the motion of his pulling his fist back to collide soundly into Orion's jaw…

Continuing to approach this as if he were searching for the Winchesters, the first stop would be the hotel bar before attempting to locate a particular room. The establishment was filled to the brim with people and it took Cas a minute for his eyes to catch onto movement over by the bar. It was a motion that was commonplace in any place where alcohol was served, the acts of aggression that seemed egged on by the spirits and the beer. The difference here was the young man whom the large meaty punch was aimed at. A twitch inside Cas read brother and the angel knew that he had found the Sin-Eater. Who looked terribly worse for wear... even despite his voluntary taint, his soul and mood were heavy and it looked as though he weren't planning on defending himself.
Oh look, trouble.
Despite the close quarters it still didn't take Cas very long to work his way over to the bar and tap the larger man with his fist cocked back on the shoulder. When the man turned, obviously a little stunned that the smaller man was daring such a bold move,
“You aren't allowed to touch my brother like that.” Castiel said, reaching up (not for the first type grumbling about the fact that everyone seemed to be quite a bit taller them himself, he loved his vessel it was perfect for him, but it didn't seem perfect for everyone else.) and resting his index and middle fingers against the man's forehead, causing his eyes to roll back in his head and for him to fall unconscious. Cas caught the man and deposited him back on his stool folded with his head resting on the bar. He turned back to the young angel whom he'd been here to find, “I am Castiel. Have you been harmed?”

"I'm fine. Thanks." Orion blinked up, brushing the creases out of his shirt while staring down at the now incapacitated lug beside him. Looking back up at his savior, Orion had to blink a few times before blushing slightly. Here was a rather handsome man, saving him. While he looked small, almost petite in the oversized trenchcoat, no one could deny the curve of his face or the bright pools of his eyes. As the blush traced over both cheeks to stain up along his ears, the chavo murmured softly. "Orion. I'm Orion." While it took a few moments, the dawning realization of the fester ruffling feeling coming off the smaller man before him finally occurred to The Sin Eater. He was an angel, and thanks to his eidetic memory, Orion flipped through his mental database before matching a calling to Castiel. It made sense for how he found him, it was his day after all.
"It's a good day when I meet up with Family." All he could do was smile wryly, the usual soft smile had a self-deprecating edge that wouldn't have been there a mere week ago. While he was incredibly relieved and actually quite happy to meet his newfound Big Brother, Orion could not help but feel a touch miserable. The handsome angel, a thought The Geist needed to squash immediately considering his heritage, was at least the first person who cared whether or not he was in pain. While Maddie has been kind, Castiel protected him; something the only born son of the Bihari Rom Baro never thought possible. It was… nice. But why the angel wanted anything to do with him was anybody's guess. For all he knew, he had managed to absolutely screw up in his job and was about to be shepherded straight to Perdition. Behind the Seal was where he was headed, and Orion was not sure he was ready for it. At least God sent me someone pretty to damn me to Hell…

“Good, I'll have none harming my little brother in such a way.” Cas was very glad to finally be able to put a name and a face rather then just a title to the young angel. But despite his assurances that he was well, a flush had come over his cheeks and spread up onto his ears. For a minute, he actually worried that Orion was ill, but he wasn't able to get sick with mortal illnesses anymore. So where was the flush coming from?
“I'm glad to finally put a name and a face to my newest brother.” While it held the slightly hoarseness of his vessel's vocal cords, Castiel's voice was tender and genuinely happy. He remembered well the goodness of the last Sin-Eater. She was a kind and wholesome woman and if she'd chosen this one to truly save, then Cas wasn't going to let his sister down by abandoning his new brother. While things within their Heavenly family were really on the outs right now, it was bad enough that Orion had slipped through this long alone in the world. As it was the smile that the younger man gave him was one that he had seen on the faces of humans before, it was a smile that betrayed strength, but a broken kind of strength. He worried about what had put that type of smile on his face. Not sure what else to do, Castiel offered him a smile. It wasn't often that the older angel smiled, but when he did it happened to light up his face, even as it was a bare quirk of his lips.
“Come, we should... depart before he wakes up.” He said, looking back over at the unconscious man who was still draped across the bar. He reached up and, while it looked like he would have put an arm across his Family's shoulders, Cas was a little too short to do so comfortably, instead he put a comforting hand on the back of the taller man's shoulder, half to establish a connection, but half to guide him towards the exit of the establishment, “Is there anywhere you'd like to go? Anything you need?” There wasn't much he could do on average, but today was his own day. If he wished it, for the next twenty-four hours the whole world could stop existing, at least until Friday dawned new. He could do just short of anything that he wanted, and today he wanted to spend time with his new Family.

When his fellow angel fluffed his protective feathers, Orion couldn't help but give a half-smile. After everything going so topsy turvy since he came to Virginia, it was nice to have one thing finally go right; albeit an incredibly unexpected right. How often does one meet an angel on their chosen day, and when he mentioned that he was looking for him and not an opportune salvation Orion's face flushed over again.
With a nod at the suggestion to leave, Orion stood up before ducking his head shyly. He towered over his companion, coming in around six feet five inches with his beloved steel toed boots. The hand on his shoulder had Orion desperately trying not to stumble coltishly, his bad leg stiff from sitting cramped by a bar for so long. "Nothing I can… think of, to be honest. I've just been trying to drown the last few weeks of awful under a wave of vodka, but it doesn't seem to be working. But I'm up for suggestions if you have any?" Pulling his hat securely upon his head, Orion allowed himself to be led out the front and into the crisp air. Closing his eyes briefly, Rye allowed the heat to wash over him in a soothing wave. Nothing could take the Southerner out of the Rroma boy, least of all his forced alienation from his people. Looking back over his shoulder at Cas, Orion offered a shy if awkwardly flirtatious smile. "You're the first angel I've ever met, Castiel. Do you, have a nickname? Or is that something I shouldn't ask…? I'm being impolite, aren't I?"

The flushed face meant something that wasn't sickness, Cas was slowly coming to his conclusion, but he couldn't quite put his finger on what. He'd seen a similar look on other faces, but he couldn't quite remember where. His new brother seemed to take the nearly half foot height difference between them a little awkwardly; with a bit of a good natured chuckle, Cas removed his hand from the younger man's back,
“You can walk as you're comfortable, I've made peace with the stature of my vessel.” He nodded in understanding when Orion gave the explanation of his presence in the bar, “The last time I tried to drown my sorrows, I drank a liquor store and wasn't sober for two weeks.” There were a few beats of silence on Cas' end until he looked back up at the other angel, “I wouldn't recommend it, shortly afterwards I learned what a human hang-over is.”
As the younger angel enjoyed the walk into the bright Virginian sunshine, Cas even felt his feathers ruffle a little in the warmth. While he could regulate his vessel's temperature so that he could keep his trench coat on in almost any weather, there was still that almost avian sense in him that allowed him to really enjoy the sun.
“You aren't being impolite, I was afraid that no one else had managed to get to you to give you a proper welcome into the family, it's why as soon as I could I began to track you down. Many of those I refer to as friends call me Cas, I'd like it if you would too. Do you have a preference of what you are called?” Frankly, unless they were trying to summon him, people who tended to refer to him as Castiel to his face tended to be people he wasn't a fan of spending copious amounts of time around. He sincerely hoped that he would be spending more time then just this with the Sin-Eater.
Suddenly, in a flash Cas had a feeling that he knew where he wanted to take his brother, it was one of his own favorite places and if Orion liked the sun as much as he appeared to, then he would most likely love Cas' place. He flashed Orion with a slightly excited look, the biggest evidence was his blue eyes sparkling,
“Do you fly, Orion?”

"Cas, then." Orion affirmed, crooked smile the first sign of him becoming comfortable in his presence. The blushing was gone, the odd attraction fading away under companionship. He knew better than to hold onto foolish things, and as such Rye simply let be. And when Cas at least gave him leave to walk without being awkward, Orion felt his spine stretch back into it's tall shape. A smirk and a stifled chuckle was all he had to offer the angelic bender story, before he turned to look at his companion critically.
"No one's… talked to me. Just you. And I really appreciate the welcome. I haven't had a very warm one here, yet." The excited look on Thursday's face had The Sin Eater blinking back wide eyed shock as he tentatively awaited the potential suggestion for what they should do. When he brought up his question, Orion gave another classic nervous half-smile. "Not well… but I can try to keep up." Anything but here would be fantastic. Especially with someone who genuinely seemed to like his company.
Today might not suck so bad, after all..
Taking a deep breath, Orion glanced about. There were few people about this time of day, especially in this neighborhood. Linking arms with Cas, he gave the angel a gentle tug before disappearing down an alley and away from plain sight. Taking a deep breath, he settled his nerves before closing his eyes. Slowly, as if he hadn't done so more than once before, Orion unfurled his wings. Their length was comparable, large for his position in the Hierarchy; a match to his companion, though he was far from his station. Letting a quiet sigh pass his lips, he opened his eyes to give Cas a crooked if nervous smile.
"Though I haven't done it very often…"

Despite the fact that he was more than a little upset by it, the fact that no one had actually come to find Orion didn’t surprise Cas given the types of things that had been going on in Heaven for the last few years. Though one could argue that beings with a level of omnipotence would be able to foresee such problems, but then again, their Father was the only truly omnipotent one and even then, now there were questions in the angel’s mind about whether or not that was really true. As Cas cocked his head up and back a little so he could more properly regard Orion,
“There has been much that has been happening within Heaven the past few years. Such as they are, you have my apologies that you managed to slip through the fractures. ” It was obvious that, though he was trying, Cas still didn’t have a good grip on modern speech concepts, but he was trying. His head fell to the side in curiosity when Orion said that he didn’t fly well, but he allowed his arm to be taken and led over into a side alley. There were times that Castiel forgot about not showing overtly angelic things in front of indoctrinated mortals, they tended to either not understand, or go crazy or blind. The way that he allowed his wings to fall and grow from his back screamed inexperience, which explained why he seemed so unsure of himself when it came to flight. With a roll of his neck, Cas allowed his own wings to join with his vessel’s form, as much as it seemed to un-nerve some humans, Castiel loved to fly, it was one of the reasons he did so as often as he could.
”If you don’t mind it, I can help.” Ascended angels always seemed to be at a disadvantage; because the created angels were never children, they were given the ability to fly as easily as birds took to it when they were created, but not knowing anytime that they couldn’t fly meant that it came easy for them. It was why they could fly faster than sight, a skill that most attributed to teleporting. Those who had begun their lives in a mortal body took a little while for them to grasp it a little better. Castiel held out one hand to his brother in an offering of assistance of equals, not like he was a child to be coddled. ”We aren’t going far, and I can make sure we aren’t seen.”

"You don't need to apologize to me, Cas." Orion murmured, guilt rising at the angel beside him apologizing for something that wasn't his fault. Rye could never handle anyone being nice to him, it always made him feel beyond panicked at what or how he needed to pay back the debt. All panic however, fled his mind when Rye saw how easily Castiel's wings flowed out, insecurity sparking along his skin. His brother was beautiful, something the chavo was certain he rarely heard. The fact was a little sad, but Orion understood the feeling. He'd been there before, and he was sure he'd be there again. So if all he could do was give his brother a smile with hooded eyes, he would.
When he mentioned he would help him, Orion immediately perked and nodded a few times, the faint flush of a blush staining his cheeks. The idea of flight was something that intrigued him, but he didn't think he ever had an opportunity until now. His wings trembled, tucking into himself awkwardly and fluffing lightly. Unbeknownst to The Sin Eater, wings were an exceptional way to tell an angel's innermost thoughts, and currently he was feeling anxiously shy and out of place. Giving the feathered limbs a tenuous shake, Orion gently reached out to take his brother's hand. His brother's hand was surprisingly soft, his own was calloused from work and life. The difference between the accountant his brother wore and his own Rroma roots. "I trust you."
Taking a deep breath, he waited for his brother to take the lead. Prepped to take flight by his side...

It seemed as though his younger brother was a bit modest, at least in this instance so Cas let the matter drop. He hoped today wasn't going to end up about discomfort like he'd heard happened with so many different human families. It wasn't until his wings were completely unfurled that Castiel noticed the look that Orion was giving him and the gaze actually brought a smile to Thursday's face and caused him to fluff his wings a little. No one had seen even a hint of his actual angelic glory in a very long time, except for the few times that he was met with near panic for fear that the human's were going to go blind. He wasn't sure if Orion would understand the reasoning behind the fluff, but he almost hoped so.
If you knew how to watch them, an angel could almost always be betrayed by their wings. The shy excitement that flying seemed almost infectious when he wrapped his hand around his brother's.
“I'm glad. Come.”
It was with that that the elder angel flexed his wings enough that would take the pair into the air. The rush of air through his feathers and hair was something he had missed quite a lot. He just made sure he remembered that he had to keep them wrapped in a type of 'not my problem' barrier, it didn't render them invisible but no one would feel the need to look up at that particular moment where they would be spotted. Cas didn't take them too high, at least not at first as he headed up the east coast. After a few minutes, he looked over to where Orion was, checking on how his brother was taking to flight. He wasn't dragging Orion along behind him like a kite, but he wanted to keep a hand on him to make sure everything was going alright.
“How are you fairing?”
Though he was keeping them at a leisurely pace in case Orion needed to stop and breathe, Cas was tucking his wings before too long and heading down towards Earth. He specifically aimed to miss the water when they landed; he took a deep breath of the air and felt a peaceful calm settle over him.

As Castiel's wings fluffed in what Orion subconsciously knew as pride, his own fluttered contentedly. A soft sound passed his lips, a cooing almost chirp that had Orion blinking in surprise. It was a sound that he knew, again unsure how, meant that he was happy and felt safe with his brother; but the bell-like and almost avian sound was something very foreign and he turned the imploring look towards his brother. Taking his hand, Orion let out a strangled squeak as his wings struggled to match the pace and cadence of Cas's. It was very much a bridling cast to the wind, flying slightly crooked and overly compensating to the right. He was grateful for the hand tethering him to the other angel, but he couldn't help the embarrassment at his inexperience from coloring his face and overall aura. But still he pushed on, and after a minutes he seemed to find himself in the air; before too long The Sin Eater was even giggling in delight of the freedom of it all. The air was a new territory to explore and roam, and the Rroma nearly wept at the knowledge it was His.
"This is incredible!" His voice sounded out his pair of decades upon terra firma, a euphoric laugh bubbling up from his chest as Orion started to keep pace by his own locomotion. His wings were small, despite his tall stature, but their span was close to his brother's. While Cas resembled an osprey in both speed and shape, Orion seemed to be closer to the American Crow. A close cousin of the raven but a touch more delicate in shape; a curse not even Ascension could free him from it seemed. As they reached their destination, Orion tucked his wings and enjoyed the rush of the free fall and the beauty of their destination.
Orion would have loved to have made as flawless of a landing as his brother, but as he was a novice he doubted he would be so lucky. And true to fashion, the chavo released his brother's hand for fear to taking him down with him. Crashing into the foliage in a riot of akimbo limbs and feathers as he rolled, Orion found himself coming to a stop on his back. Wings outstretched and squashed beneath him, his left leg sticking straight up along the old stump that stopped his riotous landing. Covered in dirt and debris, Orion could do nothing at first but cough as the air was knocked from his lungs. And soon thereafter a sound did pass The Sin Eater's lips.
Loud and heartfelt laughter.

With the sound of a very conversational Enochian coming from his youngest brother’s lips, Cas’ own throat issued a very similar sound, one of happiness and welcome. The surprised look that crossed the Sin-Eater’s face told him that his brother may not speak Enochian fluently if at all, but it didn’t stop him from trying. While he was inexperienced, the fact that he did not fully trust the currents of wind were fluttering the younger angel all over the sky, or at least they would have been had not he had a strong brother’s grip on his hand. But soon, around when they were flying over Massachusetts, did the pure joy that flying truly caused started to show on Orion’s face and the laughter that came spilling into the winds would have made Cas puff in familial pride.
Tucking in his own wings for the decent, Castiel felt Orion’s fingers loosen from his own, the calloused digits releasing the younger angel from his tether and into the open sky. Much in the way that a baby bird just learning might throw itself from the nest, Orion ducked to Earth; Cas landed before his brother, wings folding tight to his body and away. He looked up just in time to see what kind of an angle that Orion was taking in, but wasn’t able to stop him soon enough despite being able to see exactly what was going to happen next.
That’s going to hurt in the morning…
The crash landing most likely wasn’t going to hurt too badly right away, but after a night to settle into his bones, it wasn’t going to be comfortable in the least. Little did he know that one of his first laying on of hands was going to have to be for his own little brother. Walking over, Cas knelt and offered a hand to the upside-down Orion. Thankfully he was laughing and appeared to be none too injured.
“Yes, but you should have seen my first landing.” He offered, “Or our brother Josiah, he’s just as tall as you, but with larger wings.” Helping to pull Orion to his feet, Cas reached over and plucked up the fedora that had tumbled off of Orion’s dark hair and plopped it back on his younger brother’s head. It was a move he’d seen countless times in movies or real life, that was how older brothers teased, wasn’t it? With a thought, Jimmy’s dress shoes were gone from his feet as were his socks. While he wore them constantly, shoes were something that Cas had never taken that much of a shine too, at least not here. The sand was gray, but soft under his vessel’s feet; this had begun being Cas’s special spot since he’d started coming here to Earth more frequently, there were times that he wasn’t needed, or wanted as the case was, and he made it a point to find solace somewhere. Of all the places in the world, Castiel loved the beaches that his father had created two days before himself.
“You seemed deeply troubled when I found you; I thought you could use peace.” While he didn’t say it out loud, Cas also felt that he needed some type of peace; after an earlier discussion with Dean just a short time ago, the angel of the fourth day was still feeling a little heartsick and confused. “I have always found my peace here. Have you ever been to Canada before?”

Taking stock of his limbs, Orion simply laid back and relaxed once he was certain nothing was permanently damaged. While his right hip and knee where screaming in firry pain, the view from his back of the sea and surf and sky made it simply float away. Taking a deep breath of clean salty air, the Rroma boy let his eyes fall shut as a goofy smile replaced the tense lines from before. This was it, the quiet and the zen he was craving. While the bottom of bottle was a decent escape, this was so much more substantial. As Cas spoke, Orion simply nodded; letting the fellow angel's words crest over him in a wave much like the one behind him.
"Mine are rather small for my height." He understood the size of his wingspan was due to his place in the garrison as opposed to proper size ratio. But that didn't mean he had to wallow in it, or stress over it. His crow wings were his and death was his domain. To think otherwise, to have otherwise seemed anathema now. When he mentioned peace, Orion finally cracked his eyes open. "I'm not allowed peace." The words were spoken plainly. Truthfully. Their 'Father' did not want the suicide to have anything other than suffering. Why else would he continue to torment him so, despite his best attempts to do his Calling justice? "Never this far North. Never alone." his words were wooden, almost empty. While this was soothing his mind, his soul was still ragged. And no amount of surf and sun would fix it.

--------------------------- --------------------------- [/size] He knew where he was going, and the face that usually bore a frown no matter what form he was in had a malicious grin on it, something that no one would mistake for anything other than just that. He was a sadistic being and always had been, he preferred it that way. He was sick and tired of playing by the rules, watching those around ruin the earth that he had watched created. He didn’t want to deal with it nor would he. He knew how to get what he wanted as long as he displayed patience, and that was something that he perfected over the years.
The form that he was in now was a form that he had worn a few times before, though now it was with purpose that he bore the face of the so called ‘Devil’. He was heading towards the place where two angels were located, talking about who only knew what. He didn’t like angels, never had. They had ruined his plans more times than he could count, something that was a definite sore spot with the higher being. Even Lucifer, the face who he bore now, still an angel, though an angel sent to ‘hell’ in order to deal with those who were lesser than god intended. Yes, god, another sore point with him.
No one knew how much power he had, no one understood who he was and how he came to be, that was one of the best parts about it in his mind. He didn’t mind it, didn’t mind keeping that secret, he actually enjoyed it.
Walking up to the two he smirked, knowing that they would realize that he wasn’t whose face he bore…at least if they were good at what they did they would…then again they were angels so who really knew. “Hello there.” He stated simply, his mind a mockery of the term. “Orion and Castiel, two worthless angels if I ever saw them, and unfortunately I’ve seen them too often.” He stated simply. “Both too tied to humanity, the disgusting race that it is. Shame shame…wonder what daddy would say.” He stated, his tone condescending in a way that few had ever heard.
Snapping his fingers he watched as a young man walked up, his hands bloody. “Say goodbye.” He stated, watching as the young man pulled closed the door where the symbol that angels knew and feared shown.
Watching as the young man slammed his bloody hand on the symbol he grinned as he saw the two disappear. He knew from his comings and goings that Orion wasn’t allowed in heaven. He smirked, his teeth gleaming in the light before fading as he slid back into his natural form.
