The Trickster had proofed himself into the wonderful town that was called Rome. He hadn't been here in a long time so this was a sight to see. The youngest archangel walked through the city, being further away from Richmond was better for him right now. He didn't worry much though. He had friends there that would look after each other. He told himself that though after dying, being brought back by father and then the whole ordeal with his older brother Raphael, he needed to take a stand, which wasn't really something that he wanted to do, and Dean understood that.
The Trickster was where in Rome where he would have a meeting with his younger brother Castiel. If the youngest archangel were to pick sides, he would definitely not pick Raphael's. Not in a million years and eternity. He know that his brother knew that too. Gabriel also didn't want to pick Castiel's side either. This whole war thing was useless. He knew that Michael would flip shit if he knew what was going on, not to mention handing Raphael's ass to him on a silver platter for harming a prophet and working with a demon.
The Trickster stopped when he reached the fountain. He hadn't seen this in a long time and right now it looked so old to him. He guessed that's what time does to things. Gabriel had pulled out a chocolate bar from his pocket and he unwrapped it. The archangel took a bite and smiled at the moon reflecting off of the surface of the water in the fountain. The young red haired prophet he came to know would love this. She would probably draw it, or just enjoy the nice scenery with him.
He decided it was time now. The Trickster would allow himself to be found only by Castiel, no other angels.

The Eternal City was one that Castiel hadn't actually spent much time in, despite it being the home of the Vatican and thus one of the places that God was closest to Earth, at least it would have been if God was paying visits to his creation anymore. His children stumbled along without guidance and tried as hard as they could attempting to guess the wants and needs of Divinity. Sadly, they were only mortals and while Cas held them in high regard, even God's own Angels couldn't agree on what their Father wanted, so how could they?
He approached the large fountain in the center of the city, the Trevi fountain was beautiful with the spot lights reflecting off of it and sending shadows to ripple across the water, the coins resting at the bottom that were collected to feed the needy shone like the stars above the city. He could see the blond man standing there off to the side, consuming something from his hand; if it wasn't a chocolate bar, Castiel would have been very surprised.
He had felt the presence of the archangel strong, since his elder brother had been hiding for so long he couldn't help but go to him. With the struggle that was going on within Heaven and even still here on Earth, if the self-modeled Trickster had his own piece of insight it would be greatly appreciated. As it was it was good to see that the archangel was well after he had been killed by Lucifer. He walked up to stand beside Gabriel, starting out across the shadowed water as well,
“Hello Gabriel.”

The Trickster stood there staring at the fountain and he smiled. It was nice and peaceful and that’s the way he liked things. The youngest archangel took a deep breath of fresh air and he smiled. Gabriel took another bite from his chocolate bar and he closed his eyes. He was able to slow everything down, hear every step of the people that walked by him, even feel the earth turning beneath his feet. He opened them and wondered what in the world could be taking his younger brother so long.
The Archangel sighed and closed his eyes. He sensed that the young ginger prophet Maddie was in her house safe and sound. that’s all he wanted to see. She smiled softly to himself and he knew that he would be able to see her again some time soon. It was only a matter of time. He had the vampire protecting her too while he was gone, well sort of. He knew that Spike was keeping an eye out for her and that was all he really needed to know. Oddly enough ever since he met her he didn’t think that he would ever be friends with her and since he had gotten to know her since he was so interested and wanted to learn more about her.
The Trickster smiled when he sensed his younger brother behind him. He had said hello, Gabriel. How odd. Everyone said that after seeing him. Gabriel didn’t turn to face his brother he just stood there with his back to him.
“You should take better care of your boys. I’m sick of saving them after all the trouble they have gotten into and by them I mean Dean.” The youngest archangel said to his younger brother still not turning around.

Apparently this was the sort of conversation that they were going to have. Castiel was a little taken aback to hear that Gabriel had been looking after Dean while he was away. As far as he knew, his elder brother couldn't stand the Hunter. It wasn't as though his feelings were really well known among the garrison, though everyone knew well that he had taken a special interest in the pair.
“If I could really control Dean Winchester there wouldn't have been a third side in a Destined two-sided War.” Castiel answered, not mentioning exactly which war. He knew well that his elder brother wanted nothing to do with everything that went on between Heaven and Hell. “But I appreciate what you've done for him.” Even though he'd never said it, Castiel had his own opinions about their two brothers fight to destruction. It had taken a lot out of Castiel to throw what amounted to a Holy Fire bomb at Michael and it had nothing to do with the fact that Lucifer had blown him and his vessel to pieces.
“How have you been, brother?” He worried about the archangel for all of his occasionally brash attitude and constant trickery, family was still family. The last he'd heard, despite his 'own personal Witness Protection', Gabriel had been killed, so when he'd appeared back on his radar Castiel had been very glad to see that his brother was back. They were losing too many people lately, and the fact that they were gaining them back again, was a blessing.

The Trickster gave a small chuckle to the younger angel when he said that he appreciated all Gabriel has done for Dean. If only the angel actually knew what the two were up too, and no good came from any of it. It was as if the younger angel was thanking Gabriel for getting so fucked up that he just had to get Dean just as drunk. Castiel also didn’t know about Gabriel accidentally getting him killed and all sorts of things. As of now, Gabriel wasn’t completely hating the hunter. They were friends-ish. The Trickster felt bad about “almost” getting Dean killed. It wasn’t something he wanted Dean to get in the middle of. The tiff between him and Raphael wasn’t really a pretty one, but he and Raphael were always butting heads, ever since he could remember. Those were the times that he seemed to depend a bit on his older brother Lucifer.
The Trickster then looked at Castiel when he asked how he has been. Gabriel merely shrugged to his brother. Did they have to do pleasantries? Gabriel turned to face Castiel now. “oh, I’ve been. Kind of hiding again. Running from dear Raphie. Its really a long story. I’m sure Dean will tell you if you ask. Not really that entertaining either, but if you’re that eager to know, I will tell ya.” The youngest archangel said to his younger brother, wondering if Castiel has heard anything about Raphael’s little partnership with the demon that Sam was fucking way back when. Gabriel also wondered if Castiel believed something was up. It wasn’t that Gabriel made himself known on accident.
“so how’s your little pointless fuckin’ stupid ass war?” Gabriel then asked Castiel.

“Considering most still think you dead, that has got to make things a little easier.” Castiel fell silent for a moment when Gabriel mentioned their brother. Raphael had made it clear that Cas had made a very powerful enemy, but the younger angel wasn't afraid as much for himself, more for the people he'd become connected to. Sam and Dean would always have angelic bulls-eyes on their backs as far as Heaven was concerned, it almost didn't matter who was in charge. “I have heard very little about the rumblings of Raphael lately. His men still crawl out of the woodwork like demons, but I've seen or heard nothing of his mightiness.” Even for Castiel the dark sarcasm in his voice was evident, he usually prided himself on keeping his face and voice almost neutral, but the amount of ridiculousness that Raphael had been perpetrating was staggering and really grating on Thursday's nerves.
He also wasn't quite sure how he felt that there was apparently a story behind Gabriel and Dean's adventures. The reason that the two of them fought so hard, Cas believed, was because at least parts of their personalities were just similar enough that it would grate heavily against each other, but different enough that they just couldn't find any common ground except for the rousing opinion that most 'people with wings' were assholes. Some of their more abrasive traits being ground down seemed to have the potential for explosives... But since there was no sign of another apocalypse at least a lot of things were probably going to work out.
“The war goes as any of our wars go. Mindless bloodshed of biblical proportions as brother fights brother.” Cas thought for a minute as he stared out at the rippling water. He still hadn't quite turned to face his brother, but they'd had a million conversations without ever looking at one another. “This is starting to look like the great war when Lucifer rebelled. Same number of casualties... same... senselessness...” After everything that had happened, Cas was getting tired of War. While he'd been angry at his elder brother before for up and bailing on their family, he was starting to understand now more then ever why the archangel had taken off.

The Trickster looked at Castiel and nodded to his statement. It was true they all believed him to be dead… again for like a third time. Gabriel was good at it, faking his death, except the second time. The second time they all thought he was dead he really was dead and their father had brought him back to life, so he learned from Joshua. Gabriel wanted to believe the other angel, but some things that Raphael had said really got to him. He really didn’t know what to think about that personally. He wanted to believe his brother, he truly did.
The Trickster gave a shrug to his brother. “apparently your head has been in the clouds, literally. Raphael has crossed the line and now he sort of disappeared, but he crossed the line.” Gabriel said to his brother, with that tone of anger and frustration. This was Castiel and Raphael’s war, not his. Why he was dragged into it? He didn’t know. He just wished that it would stay between them and Maddie and him could be left out of it. He hated that he brought her into it and that Gabriel had let it happen. It wasn’t on purpose, it just happened that way. She didn’t show it but he knows that she fears this war, the angels now.
The Trickster’s attention turned to Castiel when he started talking again. He was actually making sense. He agreed with his younger brother. Every word that he spoke. “yeah but this war that you two started, brought in more innocence than it should have. And believe me, having both of your heads mounted above my fire place would be the best thing to ever happen.” Gabriel said almost angrily again, being protective, not only over Maddie but Dean as well.

“Of course my head has been in the clouds, I've been in Heaven. All I meant is even there, Raphael has become scarce.” It worried him. What was the archangel planning if he wasn't leading his own charge? What kind of horrors was he concocting behind the scenes? To think all of this, all of this bloodshed was just to release Michael and Lucifer and re-start the Apocalypse. A battle that would destroy half of the world. This whole thing came down to a question of the 'greater good'. Which was better?
It was times like this that this normally would have prayed, but at the moment Castiel wasn't sure exactly how his father was feeling about him right now. Obviously, he didn't hate him because he still had access to his abilities and gifts, but Castiel still wasn't sure. He wanted guidance but felt like he wasn't going to get it. Now on top of it, Gabriel was angry; but then again anything that had to do with the Wars made the archangel angry. He hates anything that would result in tearing their family apart, it was why he had taken flight and hidden so many years ago.
“You are right, I did start this. Does part of me wish that I hadn't? Maybe. But at the time I felt that this was a better option then letting our brothers tear each other apart. I know well that you didn't want to see that, and neither do I.” The thought of Michael getting hurt that badly, possibly killed if destiny was going in that direction lately, the way where it didn't matter what was prophetisized about an event, that event always went different then it should have. This was how it was supposed to be, but not.
“If I could end this now, I would.”

The Trickster let out a sigh. He really didn't know what to say to his younger brother anymore. He knew that nothing he could say would change his mind which meant Gabriel would still have to remain in hiding. He rolled his eyes and turned away. His brother just didn't understand. The Trickster didn't care about the family anymore. He sort of didn't care if the idiots did but he knew deep down he really did. The youngest archangel had a class friend to worry about. There was o way in he'll and heaven that he would let Raphael hurt Maddie again.
Gabriel gave a small sarcastic laugh at Castiel's statement. His eyes narrowed and he shook his head. "I would rather watch Michael and Lucifer tear each others fucking wings off then watch Rapahel nearly kill Maddie again." the youngest archangel yelled at Castiel's as if it were the other angels fault when it really wasn't and Gabriel knew that. He stout a sigh.
"Sorry. I know its not your fault and it's all on Raphael. I just haven't been the friendliest guy lately. Oh, when you see Dean tell him I will stop by later." he said to his younger brother and he then looked at Jim one more time. "can you do me favor?"

There it was. The deep seeded reason that Gabriel was so hostile this evening, Raphael had harmed the young seer. Madison Saxon, Castiel hadn't known that Gabriel had taken up a special interest in her safety, but then it seemed to be something that angels themselves often seemed to do, they bonded. When they bonded themselves to humans it was usually hard and fast, rather the way that he had bonded to the brothers. They were his humans. They were stubborn, often impulsive, not always grateful and once in a while even just stupid; but they were his and he would fight to keep and protect them.
“You fear for the seer.” His voice was still very calm in comparison to his brother's. He was usually good keeping his calm in the face of someone yelling directly at him. This would sort itself out, Gabriel knew well that this wasn't his fault, he didn't actually have any control over Raphael at all. Then his brother admitted it without prompting, he'd merely lost his temper. “I will tell Dean.”
With a statement like that Castiel had thought that maybe this meeting was finished. Castiel still wondered just what the reason that Gabriel had called out to him for had been. This couldn't have been all, just giving away his big secret that he was really alive again, Gabriel was not so careless. He played his cards much closer to the chest then that, he always had. Then Gabriel stopped and turned, looking at him for only the second time during the whole exchange, requesting a favor.
“What is it you need, brother?”

The Trickster looked at his brother. It looked as if Castiel knew exactly who Gabriel was talking about. It was true. News did travel fast in Heaven. If Castiel heard about it anyway. The angel looked at his brother and let out a sigh. It was not a good thing that both sides knew of this, not a good thing at all. Gabriel didn’t want anything to do with this war. He thought it was stupid, pathetic.
Castiel then told him that he feared for the seer. The Trickster didn’t react in anyway, just stared at Castiel. He folded his arms across his chest and waited for Castiel to say something else. When he hadn’t Gabriel let out a small sigh and he nodded. “I do, and you of all people should understand.” The Trickster said to him referring to Dean and Sam. He knew that Castiel would probably not be happy when he said that. Castiel then told him that he would tell Dean. The Trickster just nodded in response to this.
The Trickster looked at his brother who seemed to not be happy with those words. He smiled, to show his brother that it was nothing bad, just a small favor. “I cant appear to her yet, I’m dead remember? I just need you to make her invisible to angels. that’s my favor. Nothing bad, just that plain and simple.” Gabriel answered, wondering if Castiel would actually say yes to it. He hoped so. This was just the last thing that Gabriel needed and then Castiel can be on his merry way.

“Of course I understand.” It was true, Gabriel had the problem that his seer’s name was seared into the brains of every one of the angels; it made it so hiding her was going to be difficult, but not impossible. But then everyone on both sides knew about the Winchesters, which was one leg up that Madison had, which was that all the demons as well didn’t know her name as well.
So here was the favor, a simple one in the grand scheme of the world; hide his seer from the rest of the garrison. It would mean keeping her safe from Raphael, but there was a good chance that it could hide her also from himself and Gabriel. It was very difficult to pick and choose which angels that could see through the sigil. Again, not impossible, but very difficult. His best option was to do it on his own day, use the extra boost in power that he got to make sure that it would go off appropriately. The thing he was concerned about with this was by severing this link, it would cut her off completely from any possible aid that an angel, most of which would die before they would harm a prophet.
“It will be painful.” He reminded his brother, the only way that he knew to keep her completely safe was to burn the sigil onto one of her rips, as he did for the brothers. “It would be strongest if I visit her on Thursday, but yes. I will hide your prophet.” Cas paused for a minute and looked back at his brother, “How do you expect to find her again when you are ready to make your third resurrection?”

The Trickster looked at Castiel and he nodded. The Trickster folded his arms across his chest and he wondered what Castiel was thinking about. He wondered if Cas would even listen to Gabriel. He should though since he does everything in his power to keep the Winchester brothers safe. The youngest archangel felt the same way about Madison, and he knew the only way to make her safe was to hide her from Raphael and destroy her father, who is a demon. Gabriel had never really had been face to face with Maddie’s father except for the first time that she had met Gabriel.
The Trickster knew that what he was asking could be a big risk seeing as if Maddie was in danger no angel would know where she is, but its what Gabriel wants. Gabriel just wanted her to be safe and he just wants her to live a happier life than what she has now.
Castiel then told him that it would be painful and that he would visit her on a Thursday and then agreed to do it. “yes, I know its painful. She will know its painful, it’s the only way right now, and do it as soon as you possibly can.” Gabriel responded to him with a sigh. He looked at the fountain and then to his brother again when he asked him how he would find her again. “Dean and I have each other’s numbers and I have hers. Finding her again wont be an issue.” Gabriel answered him.

Watching the constantly moving water for a few moments, Castiel felt himself get very still as the full weight of what his elder brother was asking of him washed over his form. Gabriel was impulsive, that was true, but had he really not thought through this as deeply as he should have? Feeling that overwhelming urge to pray again, Cas held it tight in his heart not brave enough to send it skywards where it belonged. The day would come where his Father would ignore his prayers completely, not because it was what was best for the angel, but rather because he just didn’t want to hear from the fallen.
“Is she prepared for the ramifications?” Castiel asked finally, eyes closed against the warm glow of the fountain for a moment before opening them to take in the view of the cityscape set dark against the stars. “Is she prepared for the loss of her visions and her destiny?” This might actually be more than the angel of the fourth day could handle, or just beyond his abilities. To separate a prophet from the angels who alighted down from on high to give them their visions would cause at best a deep feeling of melancholy and emptiness and a complete loss of self. To remove one’s destiny was to remove what made that person themselves.
At worse, she would actually go completely insane.
It was no secret that Gabriel was one of the angels most removed from his original senses, it was the manner of himself and what helped him so much when it came to his play of being a trickster. Somewhere in the back of his mind, was this his brother trying to get his charge to understand him deeper? There were none who knew the addled like those who were addled themselves. Cas whole-heartedly believed, or at least hoped, that Gabriel was doing this from a slightly warped place of love and affection. But sometimes that wasn’t enough. Much as he wished it was, sometimes things needed to be sacrificed in order to make sure that things actually went the way they should go, to do what was best for a person rather than what someone imagined was right.
“If we remove this, Gabriel, she will not be your same charge any longer, you know that.” It wasn’t a question, it was a reminder. Cas actually felt his breath catch in the back of his throat after he finished speaking, he let it sit there, the oxygen swirling inside the trachea of his vessel. What his brother said next would be the final pin in his decision.

The Trickster looked up at his brother. He knew what would happen to Maddie and he personally thought it was for the best. Maybe, just maybe her father wouldn’t come after her anymore, though Gabriel could only hope. Maybe she would want to loose the visions, everything so that she could be normal. She deserved that, to be normal. After learning so much from her, he wanted her to have nothing to do with his family, nothing to do with the angels, with his father, with anything of the world that he comes from.
“I wouldn’t know. She doesn’t know I am asking this of you.” Gabriel said honestly. “I don’t have to worry about her going insane. I will still be there for her.” Gabriel then added, knowing that her father would still be around and he couldn’t leave her alone. He wasn’t a part of heaven anymore so Gabriel knew he could pretty much do what ever the fuck he wanted.
This was really weird. Gabriel was actually having a conversation with Castiel, and it was a decent one, none of them trying to kill one another. Gabriel wondered if it was because he and Dean had become friends. He stared at Castiel who looked like he was thinking. Gabriel let out a sigh. He could guess. “look, ask me anything, I’m not going to blow up at you. Its alright to be curious bro.” Gabriel said to his younger brother with a smile.
He then looked back at Castiel from the fountain when Castiel started talking again. Gabriel nodded to Castiel and then gave a slight nod. “though, I guess the decision in the end isnt mine. Tell her its her choice but its to keep her hidden from Raphael. that’s all I care about. If she says no, then I have a bigger job to do.” Gabriel gave his brother a slight nervous laugh. He knew Maddie. She does anything she wants, even talking back to him which to any angel looks like a bad thing.
