- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -She had a feeling that was the case before he even said it. She knew that Angel tried to keep her from getting hurt as best as he could...both physically and emotionally. Granted sometimes he proved that he was a guy with a guy brain and that meant that his attempts at keeping her from getting hurt often hurt her worse than had she gotten hurt by the thing he had tried to protect her from in the first place...and yeah that didn't make much sense. Luckily Angel wasn't like that sparkly vampire from Daylight or Midnight or whatever the hell the new vampire craze was these days...because if he could read her mind there's a good chance he'd be out the door quicker than she could blink.
Feeling his arms wrap around her she nuzzled into his chest, loving the fact that she seemed to simply fit with him. It was strange since they were so different, even in the looks department. Where he was tall, she was short, where he was big, she was tiny, where he was dark, she was light. They were one another's polar opposites in every way...and yet they fit one another...almost as if she had been made to be in his arms. Okay, so she was being completely sappy tonight, but what the hell, she couldn’t help it. Besides, again, he couldn't read her mind so she could be as sappy as she wanted!
"Don't worry about me so much Angel." She told him, her eyes closing briefly as she leaned into him even more. "I will do whatever I can to make sure that you are okay. If that means beating down some gypsies then I'll do that too." She whispered. "I just want you to be happy...and I mean that in more than just a 'perfect happiness way'." She explained softly. "You deserve to be happy...more than anyone else that I know...you deserve it." She told him before getting up and heading into the shower.
Surprisingly enough she was fairly quick once she got in. Washing her hair and then letting the conditioner sit on it as she shaved every orifice that needed shaving before lathering her loofah up and scrubbing her body with her favorite vanilla body wash, she just let her mind be. She didn't want to think about anything, didn't want to get caught up in her thoughts, she just wanted to be.
Once she was successfully clean she rinsed the conditioner out of her hair and turned the shower off, wrapping her towel around her as she did. Running a brush through her wet locks she figured she would just leave it down. Angel liked messing with her hair and if she put it up it would never dry. Throwing on the rather odd assortment of clothes that she had grabbed she took a quick look in the mirror. Yeah, it was definitely laundry day. A black sports bra with a razor back back, a pink razor back tank top, and a pair of sweat pants that hit her ring under her knee that had Cheer on the side that she bought back in Los Angeles about 5 years ago but rarely wore, she definitely looked the part of a high schooler, not a twenty five year old woman.
Shrugging she threw her towel on the towel rack and walked back out into her room, giggling slightly as the steam followed her. Yeah, she had a perpetual love for ridiculously hot showers. It was a miracle she hadn't burned her skin off by now. Realizing that she had no protection for her cross against Angel's skin she pouted briefly before taking it off and putting it on her nightstand, not liking the feeling of not wearing it but knowing that she'd rather take it off than not be able to be near Angel.
That last thought caused her to look up to figure out where the brunette vampire had gone to.

Angel nodded to her as she told him that he deserved this. While he didn't say it aloud he didn't necessarily believe it. However he'd been looking into it nonetheless because, well, honestly...he didn't care if he deserved it or not. He wanted it badly. To be able to be with her fully. To never have to worry about Angelus making an appearance again. Finally he would be able to just be himself, fully and never have to worry about harming anyone again. Well anyone that was good and innocent that is. Definitely he'd still be a champion for the side of good as that would never change. Still though, he knew there was little to no chance he'd ever actually succeed in this but felt it was worth trying.
Hearing the shower turn on he decided to go and find a book to read. If there was any chance in hell that they'd restore his soul permanently to him, he knew it'd take a lot of work. He for one was fully prepared to stay buried in his dusty old books as much as needed. Besides knowing her she'd probably be in there for awhile. Standing up and off the chair, he wondered if he should tell her he'd be right back. That would require going into the bathroom and well that just would not be good. Not only would it...cheer him up, but it'd also be kind of creepy. Besides all of that too she'd probably be in there by the time he got back anyways.
Taking long strides out of her room, he silently pulled her bedroom door shut behind her. No one met him in the hall as he made his way to the den, or library or whatever in the hell they wanted to call it. Going through the pile of books he'd pulled earlier he selected a few that looked promising. Afterwards he tightly pulled the door shut behind him and made a mental note to later fix that lock. Having second thoughts about his pile of books out in an unlocked room, he went back inside and hid his pile. Coming back out into the hallway he had three of the books in his hand. Hopefully she wouldn't be annoyed that he'd went and gotten them, he didn't want her to think he was ignoring her.
As he opened her bedroom door, he saw that she was actually already out of the shower. She appeared to be a bit confused as to where he'd went. Looking at her once, he came fully inside and pulled the door shut behind him. Next he crossed the room and set the books on her dresser. "Sorry. I thought you would be in there longer" he told her softly. Simply standing next to the dresser he wondered if he should sit back into the chair. He was feeling a bit awkward at the moment. However one thing was definite, she looked beautiful with wet hair. He wasn't sure why he'd always thought that but he had.
Walking over to her he looked at her closely before brushing back a bit of her wait hair. "You're beautiful" he said softly, moving closer to her. With this he leaned in and pressed one soft kiss to her lips before pulling back. It was simple, but nice all the while. Next he wondered what they would do all night. Should he leave so she could sleep? Hopefully she'd give him some direction with this.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Hearing his velvet voice from over near her doorway she jumped before seeing him cross over to her dresser. She laughed a bit breathlessly before registering what he said and waving her hand. "No big. I actually probably would have been...however it became clear to me right after I started washing my hair that the water was slowly getting colder...meaning that apparently a bunch of people decided to take showers in the very distant past meaning that I had quite a time limit before I got blasted by the arctic cold water...hence the quick shower." She told him with a smile and a roll of her hazel eyes.
Taking the towel off of her hair (which she realized too late that she still had on) she tossed it through the open bathroom door and grabbed her hair brush off of her nightstand, running it through her wet blonde locks quickly. Luckily her hair didn’t take long to dry so she knew she wouldn’t have water droplets dripping down her back for long as they were making her shiver and she knew that if she didn’t stop she’d end up putting a hoodie on and she really didn’t want to do that as it was fairly warm in the house to begin with.
Finally finishing with the brushing of her hair she threw said brush on the bed before looking up, again jumping when she realized that Angel had walked over to her. Smiling softly at his compliment she closed her eyes as his lips touched hers briefly before opening them again, her pout clear as day as he pulled away. She could see the hesitation in his eyes as he clearly wondered what he should do now and she grinned. "You don't have to look so nervous around me you know. I won't bite." She told him before standing on her tip toes and placing a kiss on his cheek. She had thought briefly about biting his neck and telling him she wouldn't bite hard...but she figured that wouldn't be a good thing. Number one, he was a man. Number two, he was a vampire. And number three, man plus vampire plus biting equaled turned on and unfortunately they couldn't do much about it so... yeah, kissing his cheek worked better.
Nodding her head over to the books she raised her eyebrow. "So whatcha got?" She asked him, having a fairly decent idea but wanting to know anyway. She knew that this was something they needed to talk about...his desire to make his soul permanent. She wasn't dumb, she knew it was more to do with keeping Angelus locked up than it was about being with her, but she couldn't help but long for the days where she wouldn't have to worry about them going to far.

Noticing her jump he quickly moved his eyes to look at her as if silently apologizing. He had the tendency to just kind of pop up and appear places resulting in frightening places. Honestly he didn't do it on purpose he just happened to be kind of stealthy. It came with the vampirisim and wasn't something he could help. He remembered back in Sunnydale, Buffy would always tell him to announce himself when he showed up. Perhaps he should start doing that more often. After all he didn't want to give the poor woman a heart attack, or get injured. If he popped up on the wrong person it could end badly for him, especially living in a house full of new and anxious slayers.
However he nodded to her to show that he understood. It wasn't something that really needed a response. She tended to talk a lot whereas Angel had always been quite monosyllabic. Usually she didn't mind, though there had been a few times where she'd yelled for him to talk. Sometimes it frustrated her but usually she was alright with it. Hopefully she wouldn't grow frustrated right now as he wasn't doing it on purpose. Besides he loved hearing her talk anyways, so why couldn't he just listen sometimes? Her voice was serene.
There he went again making the slayer jump. Was he really that stalkerish that she never seemed to see him coming? He knew he was stealthy, but he hadn't realized it was that bad. "I'm not nervous" he said, quickly moving to defend himself. Realizing that even that comment right there had been a bit nervous, he quickly moved to speak again, seemingly flustered. "Do I look nervous?" he then asked, eyebrows arching. "Because I'm not." Although his voice was stern it could be seen that he was completely full of it. Even as he told her he wasn't nervous, his voice seemed nervous. Perhaps it was just because they hadn't spent time together like this in awhile. Not to mention time together in her bedroom...yeah, it had definitely been a long time since that'd happened. Not that he wasn't happy to be there because he was, it was just simply a bit nerve-wracking. Surely she was feeling it too? She had to be. However when her lips smacked a kiss on his cold cheek, he supposed maybe he was the only one after all.
As the subject was changed to the books he'd brought inside, he looked over to them. Next he crossed the room and collected them, bringing them over to her so she could see. "A couple diaries. Gypsy diaries. I'm hoping maybe they'll have something in here...I've looked everywhere else" he said, a bit of disappointment clear in his voice. After showing her the books he placed them on the bed before sitting on the edge and beginning to flip through them.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Rolling her eyes at his clear attempt at trying to deflect she figured she would let him off the hook this time. She wasn't sure what his issue was but then again, it was angel. He spent more time brooding about his past than anyone else she knew...so really it shouldn't have surprised her that he was nervous. Also once he was in a mood he tended to stay in it for a bit...so him going from annoyed with her for not calling to quiet shouldn't be all that surprising. She just wasn't used to his moods anymore...she'd get used to it and everything would be right as rain. She just had to deal with it until then.
She was the same way though. She knew that he wasn’t used to her talkative nature anymore either. He was perpetually quiet and she loved to yammer on about anything and everything. She clearly remember nights where he barely said more than a word or two, and that was usually her name as his way of hello and then goodbye at the end of the night, in between she had done all the talking. Some men might find this annoying, but not Angel. He had always seemed like he was perfectly content listening to her ramble. The topic of conversations back in high school couldn’t have been all that interesting for him…because really…what did he care that Snyder was being an ass to her? Or that she hated her history teacher? It couldn’t have been interesting for him…and yet he listened intently like she was saying the most fascinating things in the world.
Yep, that was love alright.
Hearing his words about the Gypsy diaries she looked at them with an almost fierce dislike. It was no secret to anyone that ever since she had found out about Jenny Calendar and her clan of gypsies who had cursed Angel with a soul that she had not been a huge fan. For one thing, Jenny had played with Giles' heart. She loved her watcher as a father and finding out that originally she had been sent to Sunnydale to watch Angel...that just plain sucked in her opinion. Her other issue was something that she had never spoken about to anyone, though she knew she would have to bring it up to Angel soon. The curse itself didn’t make sense to her and she knew that she needed to bring that to his attention. She doubted he knew that much more than she did about the curse itself but asking wouldn’t hurt anything…or at least she hoped not.
"Are any of these in English or am I going to need a gypsies translations for dummies handbook?" She asked sarcastically before climbing up onto her bed and flopping down on to it, setting her head in his lap as he read. She would wait to hear his answer before looking at one of them herself.

The blonde had definitely caught him floundering this time but to his surprise she didn't tease him about it. Surprisingly enough she actually didn't say anything about it at all. That was definitely new soon it seemed. Perhaps she was just in too good of a mood right now. Or maybe she just didn't want to take the chance of putting him into a bad mood, that was always a possibility too. Although it probably wouldn't have done the latter as honestly he was used to it. She liked to tease him quite often, to which he would usually ignore, make a sarcastic comment back, or simply chuckle a low growl. Either way he didn't mind. Wasn't that what most normal couples did anyways? He wasn't sure, but he did know that him and Buffy were far from normal. No one could protest to that one. He liked it that way though, and knew she did as well. Normalcy wasn't even in their vocabularies anymore.
Opening one of the texts, he shifted to allow Buffy room to lean her head in his lap. It seemed like such a...couple-y thing to be doing; reading together while she laid upon him. It still wasn't normal when you took into consideration the fact of what they were reading and why, but it was still nice. A sense of tranqulity passed through the vampire as his lover laid across him. One hand held his book up in front of his face and the other seemed to subconsciously moved to stroke her hair. Did she find it annoying that he was always touching her hair? He liked it longer like it was right now. Although the shorter look she'd sported had been cute, Angel definitely preferred her hair longer. It was still a bit wet to his touch but he didn't mind. He could smell her shampoo as he sat, the scent of lavender filling his nose. It smelled intoxicating. That mixed with her body wash and her natural scents and he seemed to be put into a trance.
When the slayer finally spoke aloud, it seemed to bring him out of the trance he'd been in. A bit startled, Angel's hand fell limp at his side that had been touching her hair. "Huh?" he said, seemingly not having been paying attention. Realizing after a moment of staring at her wide-eyed what she'd actually said, Angel cleared his throat before speaking. "Oh, no, they're not in English. They're all in Romanian with a couple of other dialects mixed in. This one here is in Balkan Romani, even I can barely read it" he said, looking back to the book after telling her this. Luckily Angel spoke many different languages, one of them including Romanian. However all of the different dialects were proving a bit more difficult to disect. He could read them, he just sometimes had to re-read something once or twice to understand it fully. Buffy was a smart girl but she might as well have thrown up a white flag when it came to these books.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Feeling Angel's hand in her hair she couldn't help but release a small smile. She wasn't sure if he even realized how much he touched her hair, running his large fingers through the silky strands of her blonde hair. It was something that he had always done. She figured that stroking her hair was something safe, yet still intimate, so he didn't feel weird or odd doing it. She loved it, and would admit to no one but herself that any time Spike or Riley had tried to stroke her hair it had made her uncomfortable. It was just another one of those things that she felt was 'Angel only'. Just like how she refused to let anyone touch the right side of her neck where Angel's mark lay. It was his special spot...and she liked it that way.
She knew that when Riley had been with her he had assumed that it still hurt for some odd reason. Once he realized that pain wasn’t the reason he made it his mission (whether he knew it or not) to try and get her to forget where she was even briefly enough for him to claim it himself, it never happened. Spike was different, he knew what it meant. In the vampire world once a human was marked it meant they were off limits to other vampires. Spike steered clear of the mark, and though she had never told him, it was something she greatly respected.
Hearing Angel's answer brought her out of her strange thoughts and she let out a groan. "Okay well then I'm going to be absolutely no help with this portion of our evening." She told him petulantly, pouting her pink lips up at him, knowing she probably looked like a child but not caring. If anyone would understand her hatred of things academic it would be Angel...since he was the one she used to go to in order to whine about it when she had a bad day...or even a good day for that matter.
Sighing she closed her eyes briefly, reveling in the stillness of the room. She loved this time of night, the silence that permeated through the hallways of the boarding house was peaceful to her. The fact that she and Angel were spending a quiet night at home didn't hurt anything either. Granted, they were still as far from normal as one could be...being that they were sitting here...well...he was sitting here going through ancient texts and she was simply laying around like a bum. Yeah, she should probably try and help...though how she would help she wasn't sure.
Thinking back to her earlier thoughts she crinkled her eyes briefly before looking up at him, though she doubted he could see her since technically his book was blocking her face. “Angel?” She asked him quietly. “Can I ask you a question? It’s something that’s always bothered me about the curse but I’ve never really known how or who to ask.” She told him, wondering if he would talk about it or brush her off. He wasn’t one to like to talk about the curse…with good reasoning…but still, it didn’t make sense to her.

There was a certain calmness about their night tonight that they hadn't experienced in a while. It had been sort of quiet at the school the other day after awhile, but in the beginning their had been kids bustling about all over and buses revving their engines. It definitely hadn't been like this. Tonight during moments of silence all he could hear was her breathing and her heart beating. Sometimes he found it a bit creeper of him to listen to her heartbeat, but he liked it. Not in the typical predatory way as other vampires did, but simply because it was hers. He loved everything about her, everything that she did amused him. One of his favorite things of all to hear from her was her infamous snort when she thought something was either genuinely funny, or just really dumb.
Without even looking up from his book he knew she'd have a pouty face on. When he finally did look up and realized he was right, he couldn't help but allow a small smirk to tug at his cheeks. How in the hell did the two of them know each other so well? Sometimes it was actually kind of scary how well they knew one another. "It's okay, you don't have to help. In fact, I like reading in other languages. Keeps me on my toes" he said, half jokingly but a certain truth behind it. Angel didn't want to get rusty with any of his languages. He'd slowly been building a larger library in the basement. Most of his books he kept down there, not really wanting to subject them to being used by other people. They were far too old and valuable to let just anyone touch them. Not to mention, expensive.
It turned out to be very hard to concentrate when he could see her pouting in the background. Not only was it very adorable, but he was also afraid that he wasn't entertaining her. Clearly he wasn't but he also wasn't sure if he should be. Should he be paying more attention to her and less to this book? Probably, although he wasn't sure if she cared too much. She seemed intent, if he was right, in simply laying there with him. He was sitting up but she was still lying down across his lap. It was peaceful, and he hoped she didn't think he was ignoring her.
His fingers continued to idly stroke her hair, wrapping pieces around her ear and just petting her in general. After a while it became second nature to him and he didn't even realize that he was doing it. Hearing his name spoken as if music to his ears brought his nose out of his book. He slowly moved the book to the side so he could see her again. "Buffy" he said in response, so that she knew she had his attention. It wasn't hard for her to get his attention at all. All she'd ever had to do was say his name and he was focused on her completely.
It scared him a little to wonder what she wanted to ask. She tended to ask him a lot of questions he didn't quite know the answers to. Regardless of this, he egged her on. "What is it?" he said simply, waiting for her to choke it out. Hopefully he'd at least be able to answer for god's sake. The hand that had been stroking her hair ceased to do so and simply laid next to her head, on the back of her neck. His eyes remained trained on hers while he waited to hear the question.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Grinning up at her…she really didn’t know what he was to her other than the obvious but still, she really couldn’t call him her boyfriend since you know, they hadn’t technically gotten back together. If it had been any other guy this might make her nervous as really, what guy wanted to have a girlfriend when he got all the fringe benefits of having one without being tied down. Granted, angel wasn’t really getting any of the usual ‘benefits’ as he couldn’t’ but still, that wasn’t the point. The point was that it was Angel and she knew he took a while to process things so she was content on being patient and waiting…or at least she could pretend she was.
“Good, because it would most likely take me all night to translate one sentence…I have a hard enough time with English.” She stated, knowing that she sounded a tiny bit self deprecating but not really caring. Her life was crazy enough that she usually didn’t worry about little things such as school and learning. While some may call her dumb for not ‘thinking of her future’ she realistically knew that she didn’t have much of a future outside slaying…so why dwell on things that would never be?
“You need something to keep you on your toes.” She stated…completely ruining the timing of what could have been a joke but it had taken her a couple minutes to respond, having been lost in her thoughts. Damn, she really needed to stop doing that. “You know, can’t let you get too comfortable with being Mr. Know It All.” She stated, grinning innocently up at him. It wasn’t Angel’s fault that he knew way too much about a lot of different things. “I mean after all, you are really old.” She told him, snickering under her breath. She knew he knew he was getting up there in age, but still. She could still remember calling him her cradle robbing creature of the night boyfriend back in the day and him getting a kick out of it…though technically he wasn’t robbing the cradle anymore.
Feeling his fingers still in her hair and then move to her neck, she closed her eyes briefly before opening them again and looking up into his own brown orbs. Most girls would probably be bored and annoyed that they had a hot guy in their bed and yet he was reading instead of paying attention to her…but she wasn’t. She enjoyed the stillness, the quiet. They had very few nights like this, even when they were together in Sunnydale. There had always been something going on, so to just enjoy a quiet night with only one another for company, was something that she wasn’t going to take for granted. However that didn’t mean she wouldn’t badger him with questions and random thoughts. If he got annoyed he would tell her…at least she hoped he would.
“Why did they put a happiness clause in the curse? It just doesn’t make sense to me. They cursed Angelus to put your soul back…so that you would suffer for Angelus killing that gypsy. So why put a clause in it? Wouldn’t it have made more sense to make your soul permanent, that way there was no chance of Angelus ever being released and in their eyes…you would suffer for eternity. “ She stated before realizing how is sounded and her eyes widened. “Not that I want that…you know…you to suffer but I just…I…they…Grr. This isn’t coming out right. I’m just confused.” She stated, hoping that he would understand what she meant and not get offended.

A small bout of laughter came from the elderly vampire as she commented to him about having a difficult time with English. At one point in time that had actually been true when she'd been in school. Her grades hadn't ever been that great but it wasn't at all because she wasn't smart. As they learned after her SAT's, though Angel had always known, Buffy was actually highly intelligent. However with slaying and being absent so often, plus skipping classes here and there, not to mention rarely studying, that didn't make up many good grades. Considering what she'd been going through though they should have given that girl a damned medal for the grades she did get.
Although at the same time he didn't like to hear her being self-loathing whatsoever. In fact, it was known to be one of the only things she ever did that irked him. Well actually a lot of things about her irked him..but not many in an actually bad way and not an adorable way. "You're not stupid, Buffy. You usually just don't try." Flipping the page in his book he then had another thought, which he decided to add in as well. "Not to mention the fact that you get distracted at the flip of a nickel..." he said seriously, though a small chuckle soon followed. Deciding that probably hadn't sounded too nice he cleared his throat briefly before moving the book to look at her again. "I didn't mean that in a bad way..." he murmured quietly before going back to flipping through the pages of his book.
Having gone back to reading the book, he hadn't necessarily thought she'd be responding to his comment as she'd taken so long. More than likely she'd been too caught up in her own head. That tended to happen to her a lot. "Huh?" he asked out of the midst of his own thoughts, a bit startled by the revelation that she was just now responding to that comment. When she continued on his brows furrowed and he put on his infamous pouty face. Yep, he was pouting. "I'm not that old..." he defended himself through his ever thick pouting face. So what if he was almost three hundred, in the grand scheme of things he wasn't all that old. Though compared to her he was pretty ancient, and most vampires, and...okay. Maybe he was kinda old.
"Spike's old too" he then added simply, acting like a four year old as he often did when considering Spike. Going in to full pout mode no matter how untrue it was, he moved his eyes back to the dusty pages of the book. When she finally asked her question, he closed the book in his hands and set it beside him. Clearly she was determined not to let him read it, which was fine. He'd rather spend time with her anyways. Plus, she was not one to make unhappy. After thinking for a moment, he shrugged his shoulders. "I don't know. I don't think we ever will. Maybe it was because they didn't think I'd ever find happiness...Because you're the only thing that makes me that happy, and they didn't think a slayer would fall for a vampire. If they even knew all that. I honestly have no idea..." he said, his voice trailing off quietly. For once, he'd actually rambled too. Only for a moment but still, perhaps she had more of an effect on him than he truly realized.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -She could see the annoyance in his eyes when he reprimanded her about her comment about being stupid. She knew he didn't like it when she talked badly about herself, but he usually got over it. There were things that she didn't quite like about him too and she never said anything. You know, like how he would brood over things that had nothing to do with him like who Angelus had hurt and what things had happened that he hadn't been able to prevent...yeah...those type of things. Didn't mean that she liked them, just meant that she had to deal with them. So he could deal with her saying that she was stupid.
Yeah, he'd probably lecture her for all of five minutes (an unheard of amount of time for Angel speak) if she said that out loud...so she just scrunched up her nose and ignored his comment. She wasn't however able to ignore his next comment about getting distracted at the flip of a nickel. Biting her lip to keep the smile off of her face she pretended to be offended. Hearing his rushed sort of apology she couldn’t help but let out a small laugh. "It's probably my ADD." She stated with a snicker before she realized she had probably never told him that story.
"Did I ever tell you that story?" She asked him but didn't give him a chance to respond before diving right in. Even if she had told him she figured he would listen anyway. He liked to listen and she liked to talk...just one of the thousands of reasons that they were perfect for one another. "When I was probably six or seven my parents realized that I was more talkative and far more hyper than most children my age. Up until then they had just assumed it was because I was a child and since I was an only child (at least at the time) that once I made some friends my own age I would settle down. Once I got into school though it became increasingly apparent that this was not the case. So they took me to a doctor who said I had ADD." She stated with a grin, knowing she probably looked like a lunatic as really, what person was excited about ADD?
"Anyway, so they gave me medicine, Ritalin I think was the name of it, and told me to take it in the morning. I did for a few days and became like really quiet. Like really crazy quiet. I wouldn't talk, wouldn't leave my room, wouldn't hang out with my friends or watch television or anything. My parents at first figured it was just my body adjusting to the medicine and to be honest I think they enjoyed the silence for a bit. However after about two weeks they realized that the medicine made me act like that and immediately ordered me to stop taking it. They took me back to the doctor and he couldn't figure out why I reacted like that." She stated, snickering at the memory of how devious her seven year old self was.
"No one ever found out that I had never actually taken the ADD medicine. I acted like that specifically because I didn't want to take it and I figured if I acted like a zombie for long enough they wouldn't bother with trying to make me take it." She giggled, knowing that it was probably only funny to her but finding it extremely hilarious either way. It didn't even really occur to her that she had probably proven them right that she really did have ADD but eh, oh well.
Rolling her eyes at Angel's rebuttal about not being old and then Spike being old if he was old she tilted her head to the side. "That doesn't really make a lot of sense. Spike's almost a hundred years younger than you isn't he?" She asked innocently, knowing it would annoy him.
She quickly sobered however when he started answering her question. "How can they want that? I don't get it. I mean I understand why they would want Angelus to suffer...but if you know anything about vampires you know that as soon as the vampire takes over the person that they were is gone. Sure they have their memories and their actions but their soul...their heart is gone. So why punish you for what he did?"
Word Count:: 801 Tag:: Angel Outfit:: Click here for Buffy’s Outfit Note:: Sorry for the lengthier post. Also the story about the ADD shit? Yeah, totally mine. Except I really did take it and act like a zombie so I was taken off of it. lol. I figured it would totally be a Buffy move though to pretend she took it.

Although he hadn't truly meant that she got distracted by the flip of a nickel, the slayer pretended as if she was greatly offended for the moment. Angel simply stared at her while she did this as he knew better. He knew that she wasn't truly hurt nor did she believe he'd meant it in a bad way. More or less it was simply that she liked to give him a hard time. Which he couldn't blame her for either it wasn't like he didn't deserve it. He'd left her before. Straight up left her and went to Los Angeles. Deep down he'd known it was wrong but he'd done it anyways, thinking it'd be better for her in the long run. To be honest? It hadn't been better for anyone in the long run, except maybe the citizens of Los Angeles that he saved while there.
However that was neither here nor there at the moment. Right now he was enjoying the time they were spending together. He'd enjoy it more if she would stop hating on herself, but hey, he knew she usually didn't mean it. "ADD?" he asked tentatively, waiting for her to continue. When she asked if she'd ever told him about that he quickly shook his head no. He knew her better than anyone in the entire world and yet there were still things he didn't know about her. It was kind of amazing just how complex she was. Well, how complex they both were to be honest. There was still a lot she didn't know about him, probably more so than what he didn't know about her. He'd lived for nearly three centuries, time in which a lot had happened. Granted most of it was bad....but still, maybe she wanted to know. Angel understood though that if she wanted to know something she'd ask. It was that simple, she wasn't shy nor was she afraid to bug him about something. He would just have to wait and see.
It was a good thing he hadn't needed to say anything since she jumped right into her story. It didn't bother him much though. He was a listener, they both knew that, and she was a talker. It actually worked out quite well for the two of them. Her smile at finding out she had ADD took him off guard, and he raised his eyebrows at her. Why was that a good thing? Perhaps because at least then, it could be fixed? He wasn't really sure. The book remained at his side while he listened to her though, giving her his full attention at the moment. "So essentially..the medicine made you a zombie" he stated, though it wasn't really a question merely an observation. He shook his head to himself and then went right back to listening to her. The little snicker she gave off meant that she'd been up to something and he felt like he knew what she'd been doing, but continued listening without interjecting anyways.
When she concluded her story all he could simply do was shake his head at her. What a devious little kid she was. It was half cute, half slightly destructive. "So...you had ADD, just didn't want to take the medicine for it?" he asked, a bit confused. All he had taken from the story was that she was a devious little girl who hadn't waned to take her medicine. It seemed so Buffy though that he could literally see it happening.
The conversation then went back to Spike, comparing his age to Angel's. His eyebrows scrunched at her and a look of annoyance came across his features. "So what? I look way better than he does" he said, again acting like an eight year old. That rivalry would just never end and both him and his grand childe knew it. Buffy knew it too, which was why she liked to tease him about it. Taking a moment to think, he realized that he wasn't all that sure about the curse either. It wasn't like it'd ever been explained to him or anything. After a moment he looked back to her, a bit of a confused look in his eyes. "Because...there really isn't a way to only punish Angelus, Buffy. He feels no remorse...he doesn't care, therefore they punish me instead.." he told her, his voice drifting off. He wasn't sure if this was correct or not but it was the best that he could think of at the moment.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -She could hear the held back laughter in his voice as he asked her about being a zombie and not taking the medicine. “I didn’t want to take it in the first place. I fought with my parents with it for weeks before they took me to the doctor. I told them I wouldn’t take it. I told them I’d refuse…and they didn’t listen. So I came up with a routine. I had my own bathroom in Los Angeles which by the way, let me just tell ya, I missed in Sunnydale, however that’s not the point of my story. I had my own bathroom in Los Angeles so I said that I was taking my medicine every morning before I took a shower. So I’d lock my bathroom door, turn on the shower, take one pill and flush it down the toilet. I knew my mom was counting my pills every day after I left for school. I wasn’t an idiot and she rarely reminded me to take them so I knew she was keeping track. Then every day when I got home I’d sit in my room. It got the job done.” She stated with a shrug, knowing he would probably lecture her but not caring. It still made her laugh to think of her devious younger self.
Sticking out her bottom lip in a mock pout she looked up at him, giving him her puppy dog face that she didn’t think worked but according to Xander and Giles, it did. “Would you prefer me the way I am…or would you just prefer me to just sit here and not say a word. Can you imagine if both of us were quiet? We’d never talk!” She told him, getting off on a classic Buffy ramble. “I mean seriously Angel…you’re quiet…and if I was quiet…we’d never say a word. I remember back in the day there were days that I had to beg you to talk to me. Granted that was before we really got to know one another and actually got together so to speak but still…thank god I do talk a lot. We might have never been together if I wouldn’t open my mouth.” She stated before realizing that it sounded like she was talking badly about him so she reached up and cupped his cheek with her hand.
“Not that that’s a bad thing. I like the fact that you don’t talk too much. I can’t imagine being with someone who tried to talk more than me…we’d definitely have some issues. I like to talk, and I don’t like it when people try to talk over me. You like to listen…and usually wait until I’m finished saying something before replying. So it all works.” She stated, looking up at him from under her lashes.
Seeing his look of annoyance she waited until he said what he needed to say before interjecting. "Wow, you've upgraded from twelve to fifteen. I'm impressed." She stated with a roll of her eyes, clearly commenting on his twelve year old actions back in Sunnydale. "However I do agree with you, I definitely prefer my men tall dark and handsome. Also I much prefer the brown hair and brown eyes." She stated, hoping she would soothe his ruffled feathers.
Hearing his statement about Angelus and him she turned her head so she could glare at the window instead of him. "That really sucks for you. Why should you have to be punished for something that a demon did. That would be like back in the day me being punished for something Faith had done. That's not fair nor is it right. I mean that's ridiculous. If they were still around, they'd meet my fist." She muttered before hearing someone knock on her door. "Come in." She called out and looked over to see Stephanie, one of the newer potentials.
Hey Buffy. There’s someone on the phone for you. Says her name is Rona? Umm apparently someone needs to talk to you about Kennedy? She heard Stephanie say and immediately tensed up. She sat up straighter than a board and moved away from Angel, not wanting to look at him with the subject of Kennedy. “Thanks Stephanie. Tell Rona I’ll call her back later.” She told her and waited for the potential to close the door before looking down at the floor. “So what were we talking about?” She asked, clearly trying to change the subject and yet not being able to look into her lover’s eyes.

Buffy's parents really should have listened to her pleas not to take her medicine. Honestly, they should have known better than to try and force her into it. After all he knew, and they had to have known, that she always got her way. No matter how hard it appeared to be at times and no matter how defeated she felt, she always got her way. They should have known a lot better than to try and force her into something she didn't want to do. However clearly they hadn't known this at the time, probably because she'd been so young. Perhaps things would have turned out differently in that situation if they'd only listened to her. They could have saved themselves some effort and probably money by listening to the child. However as parents, they probably assumed they were doing what was best for their child, which he understood as well. Parenting was a lot harder than it looked. Although he wasn't essentially Katheryn's father, he felt like he was a lot of the time.
Although there was nothing that could be done about it now, he couldn't help but shake his head at her in disapproval anyways. "Maybe you should have at least tried it...I doubt they would have forced you to take it if it didn't really work, but you never gave it the chance." Angel was wise, but he knew his disapproval wouldn't really do any good nor would it change her mind. Her mind had been made up for years now and there was no changing it. However the protectiveness inside of him felt the need to say it nonetheless. She should have given it a chance, instead of just immediately dismissing it though. Honestly on the other hand though he didn't see that it mattered much. While yes she got distracted very easily, it didn't seem to bother anyone. They were all used to it and simply accepted it nowadays.
The slayer then moved on to ramble about what would have happened if she hadn't been a talker. Perhaps she was rambling yes, but she was completely right. If she didn't ramble she wouldn't be herself and both of them knew that to be true. "I love that you're a talker. I always have" he piped in. "I wouldn't have you any other way" Angel then added with a tiny smile forming at the corner of his lips. It was the truth though. Although some people found it annoying, he usually found her rambles cute and endearing. Well he found just about everything she did endearing for the most part, but still. If she didn't talk...they probably wouldn't have made it. She made most of the awkward silences not-silent any more. Without her, they wouldn't ever have learned anything about each other. As she continued to comment on this very subject, he allowed a few dark chuckles to escape him.
Like usual, his eyes closed for a moment as she cupped his face. He merely enjoyed her touch so much that he liked to cherish it from time to time. "I'm glad. Never been much of a talker" he stated, thinking to himself. Another reason how Angelus and him differed. Angelus, couldn't be shut up if his life depended on it. Angel though had always been much more of a listener than anything. He'd given speeches to his friends and colleagues before, but usually just to motivate them more than anything else. He simply shrugged his shoulders to her comment on how old he was acting, as he knew he'd made a childish comment. When she commented on preferring his look, he felt his ego be cooed a bit and felt a bit better.
Angel nodded agreeably to her comments about the gypsies. Despite agreeing with her, he knew that wasn't how it worked. "They needed someone to punish..." he said simply. Before they could talk about it any further there was a knock on the door, and one of the potentials staying in the home appeared in the doorway. Immediately he watched as the slayer moved away from him. She tensed up, and refused to look into his eyes. He knew something was wrong...he just couldn't figure out what. "Are you okay?" he asked, not wanting to come right out and ask who in the hell Kennedy was.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -She heard the disapproval in his voice and shot him a look that clearly said she didn't agree. "Well maybe if you had been around back then I would have taken it for you. Even then I was a sucker for handsome guys...so if you would have asked nicely I would have probably taken them. Hell maybe you could have been my psychologist." She stated with a laugh, knowing that he would probably shake his head at her silliness but not caring. It felt nice to just joke around with him...it had been a long time since they had been able to anything other than fight.
Besides, really, what was she going to say? This was years before she met him...so really was she going to apologize for it? Nope.
Hearing him say that he loved that she was a talker and wouldn't have her any other way made her grin. "Good answer." She told him, mock patting his cheek. "You earned a treat." She told him, putting her hands behind her on his legs and pushing up, putting all her weight on his legs so she could give him a chaste kiss on the lips before lowering herself back to where she had been before. She knew she sounded goofy and many of the girls who didn't know her very well would be shocked at her actions since they never saw her as carefree as she tended to act around Angel, but this was who she could be when they were alone...this was the personality that she didn't get to show often...yet alone with Angel this was who she usually was.
She nodded. "I'm fine." She stated, her voice squeaking. "Just tired, you know. Been a long few days." She stated, clearly lying through her teeth but refusing to let that be known. Okay so if she would have been in the right frame of mind she would have probably realized that he always knew when she was lying but as her mind was completely not in the moment rather it was a few months before hand when she had done something that she had sworn she would never do.
Groaning when she heard another knock on her door she looked over, waiting for whoever it was to enter. Rona told me to let you know that you would probably be needed back in Rome for at least a couple of weeks to deal with everything. That's all she said. Again, the blonde slayer nodded. She had been prepared for that as Giles had essentially said the same thing. "Thanks Steph. I already talked to Mr. Giles about it so he's aware of the situation. Thanks for letting me know though." She told the young girl and once she was out of sight she quickly stood up and went to fuss with things over on her nightstand, basically doing anything so that she didn't have to look Angel in the eye.
