Another night had gone by and he hadn't seen Buffy. The other night when he'd talked with her after work at the school, they had been making some real progress. It hadn't ended with either one of them being injured and Angel's skull had been fully in tact, so in his book, it'd been a good night. They had even kissed which had honestly surprised him after everything had happened. His heart was starting to heal more as they continued to talk and get over there issues and he felt like maybe, just maybe, they'd be okay. After all they were made for each other and no one could deny that. Despite all the crappy situations they'd been put into, they'd made it through them all so far. Perhaps this one was one of the worst, but they'd get through it. They had to. She was Buffy, he was Angel, there was nothing else to say.
However their night had ended abruptly. She'd left him within seconds to go deal with a couple of sister potentials who had been nothing but trouble since being called. A quick kiss on the cheek and she was gone and he hadn't seen her since. It hurt to know that she hadn't cared to check in. To call or even let anyone else know where she was, as he'd asked, and no one else knew either. While he worried about her, he knew that more than likely she was just very busy at the moment. So he'd gone about his business during her absence and had tried not to worry too much. He'd spent most of his time with Doyle and Katheryn, though not together, as they hadn't met just yet. Not because he didn't want them to, simply because of how the cards had fallen.
At the moment he was upstairs in the den researching. He knew he should have been researching Doyle and why he'd come back, or researching this new power that Doyle's vision had been about, but he hadn't been. While it made him feel completely and utterly guilty he'd been researching himself. Not exactly himself, but his curse to be more exact. Even though things seemed to be going better with Buffy right now, he knew that with the curse still there not much could change. He still couldn't be there for her in all of the ways he wished he could. Physically they could never be that close like they'd love to be, like they were dying to be. He didn't want her to suffer because of him. If there was no way around it, he'd end up leaving again.
Which, wasn't an option. He'd already promised her that he wouldn't leave and he would keep that promise. So he was going through Willow's books to try and find a way to make his soul permanent. Removing the curse in general wouldn't work clearly because if they did that, he'd be Angelus. There had to be some way to make it so that no matter what he did, the curse remained permanent. There just had to be. He hated to be the guy that wanted to have his cake and eat it too, but he was that guy when it came to her.
As he flipped the dusty of page of the book he was reading, he felt her. Was his mind playing tricks on him or was she really here? Laying the book on the coffee table in front of the sofa, he stood up and strode out of the room. He pulled the door shut behind him, though it remained slightly open because he had broken the lock to get inside. Heading towards the stairs, he noticed just how dark it currently was inside the home. As he stopped at the top landing he saw her walking up the stairs, but it appeared that she didn't see him through the darkness. Standing halfway hidden behind the wall, he was sure that she couldn't see him, but spoke out anyways. "Where have you been?" he asked quietly, a low rumble in his voice as if annoyed that she hadn't checked in.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Three days it had taken to eliminate the demon in North Carolina. There had been a point to where she almost called Giles or Willow to have them come down and help. The demon had ended up being one of a very large group and while they weren’t attempting to end the world or anything, they had caused quite a ruckus in North Carolina. Luckily Tanya, one of the other slayers who lived in North Carolina had been around so the three of them took care of the problem without too many problems along the way…however it was still a long three days in which she really hadn’t slept much at all.
Pulling into the boarding house parking lot she breathed a sigh of relief. She had thought about going back to the apartment but figured she would let Willow and Xander know she was back and also update Giles if he was around. She also figured she should probably go patrol or something productive but she was way too tired to do so, so hopefully Faith or Angel were around and she could beg them to go for her. She doubted either of them would mind but still…she’d feel better if she knew.
Sliding the key into the door she walked in, closing and locking it behind her. She was exhausted. She even looked exhausted and that was truly something to see being that she had so much damn makeup on to cover the bags under her eyes that she felt like a circus clown even though she knew she didn’t look like one. She had wanted to dress comfortable but after looking at the one outfit she had left in the emergency bag she kept packed and ready to go at a moment’s notice she realized comfort was out of the question. So here she was, tired as all hell, and she was dressed in a pair of tight fitting flared jeans that were distressed and a black tube top with ballet flats. She would have much rather been in some pajamas and flip flops but that hadn't been an option so she settled for what she had handy.
Dropping her back on the floor next to the couch she vowed to deal with it in the morning when she did all of her laundry and slowly headed up the stairs, noting with a frown that it was almost pitch black on the upper level of the boarding house signaling to her that no one was home. If she would have been more coherent she would have felt the undercurrent of energy that always jumped on her skin when Angel was near but she was much too out of it to realize that he was near her. She finally made it to the top of the stairs, breathing a sigh as she made her way towards the first bedroom which was her room.
Hearing a voice from beside her she literally jumped in the air and let out a squeak before realizing who it was. "Jesus Angel! You scared the crap out of me!" She told him, leaning up against the wall and placing her hand over her chest in which her heart was racing underneath. "God." She whispered, breathing out to try and control her heart. Looking over at the man who she could barely see because of the darkness in the hallway she opened her door and flipped on the light, motioning for him to follow her. Flopping down on her bed she groaned before sitting up, looking at him. "Had to go out of town to deal with a demon issue. Took a whole lot longer than I expected. What's been going on around here?" She asked him, not realizing that he was in fact not really happy with her.
She was tired...cut her a bit of slack.

At hearing his voice his suspicions that she hadn't seen him were assured. She jumped quickly and her heart raced as he frightened her. Although her squeak was adorable he wished that maybe he'd turned a couple lights on in the hallway. Sometimes he didn't realize just how dark it seemed to most people being that he has impeccable night vision. "Sorry" he said as she leaned against the wall. Hearing her heart racing within her chest made him feel a bit at ease. It was an attractive sound clearly, though something he'd never admit it. Hey honey..your heart sounds amazing, yeah, that wasn't creepy. As she placed her hand across her chest, he switched the weight onto his other weight and simply stood there feeling a bit awkward. He hadn't meant to scare her on purpose, though he didn't really mind that he had. She deserved it after making him worry for three damned days without so much as a phone call.
As she seemed alright enough to walk again he silently followed behind her. As she flipped on the lights he clenched his eyes shut for a moment, not used to such brightness. After a moment he slowly opened them again getting used to how many damned lights she had in her bedroom. Three lights. Didn't that seem a bit obsessive? She must have been sick of the darkness when she picked this room. Later on when she wasn't here he'd probably take two out of the three light bulbs out to dim the lighting and make it more comfortable in here. Not that he was in her bedroom all the time, because he wouldn't. In fact...he hadn't been in here since the incident with Violet, Giles, and the ghosts of the slayers. Speaking of which, he'd have to make sure to tell her about that.
When she flopped down onto her bed, he simply stayed standing. The two of them on the bed together wasn't probably something that should occur at the moment. Plus he was still a little ticked about her never calling or anything. Walking over to her window, he pulled back the curtain a bit and looked out onto the dark backyard. Images of the ghosts flashed back into his mind and when it'd attacked him out there. Ignoring her comment about where she'd been, he leaned against the window sill and faced her to speak. "Nothing good..." he said quietly, looking back out into the backyard one last time.
Finally training his eyes back on her, he decided he might as well tell her. It wasn't as if she didn't know what Angelus had done. "Giles and Violet and I...we had a bit of a poltergeist while you were gone. The five potentials that Angelus killed...they came back, and they weren't happy." As he said this he sighed and looked down to his shoes. He hated that even though Angelus had been locked away for two months now, he was still cleaning up his messes. Exorcising five very upset slayers hadn't been an easy feat. Plus both Violet and Giles both knew what Angelus had done. Which also meant that Giles would probably confront Buffy about it as well.
"Speaking of which...let's just say Giles wasn't pleased either." Now at least he'd warned her, considering the watcher would surely bring it up to her eventually. He had known that Buffy had wanted Giles to know, but he hadn't either. It hadn't been his fault that Giles had been told. The damned ghosts had made it fairly clear how they'd died, and how they were there for him. He surprised that Giles had even helped him because of this. Remaining by the window sill, he looked up apologetically to Buffy.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -She waited for him to respond, sensing that he wasn't in the best of moods but writing it off as to being a long day. She honestly wasn't used to having to keep people apprised of where she was going as it had been a long time she had truly been in a relationship with anyone so it had pretty much slipped her mind that she should have let Angel know she was living. Then again, they hadn't really solidified if they were back together or what so that could also have been the problem. Either way she didn't have any idea that his reasoning for being in a crabby mood was because she hadn't let him know where she was.
Quirking an eyebrow at his statement about nothing good she waited for his to elaborate...unfortunately when he did she wished he hadn't. "Fuck!" She stated, knowing that she probably surprised by her use of vulgarity but at that moment not really giving a damn. This was not good, not good at all. She had specifically kept the whole Angelus thing from everyone for a damn reason. Ugh. Anything she wanted to say right now would have been completely inappropriate. A part of her wanted to curse the potentials who had been killed but that would be really heartless so she couldn't do that. Instead she bit her lip, closing her eyes with a huff. She needed...she had to ask him...and she knew it would most likely hurt him but she had to know.
"I don't want to ask you this. It's completely unfair for me to ask you this...but I have to." She told him, praying that this wouldn't set them back to where they were over two months ago...not speaking or even looking at one another. "You said he knows..." She trailed off, trying to figure out exactly how to ask what she needed to know.
How did she ask the love of her existence if her father figure knew that she had been bitten and had sex with the love of her existence's essentially twin brother or other half or whatever, the same other half or twin brother that killed the love of her father figure's life? Yeah, there was absolutely no good way to ask this question. Unfortunately she didn’t have a choice. She needed to know what Giles knew and she also needed to know if Giles had relayed everything to Xander. As much as she adored the two men in her life they were the hardest to forgive and forget for things (which she didn’t blame Giles for) which made things a lot more difficult than they needed to be.
"What does Giles know?" She asked, her head looking down as she couldn't even look him in the eyes when she asked him to elaborate. "Clearly he knows about the potentials and the fact that Angelus had been released...but what else does he know?" She asked, making it very clear what she needed to hear and how she couldn't even speak the words.
How did one ask the questions that she needed to know?

As Buffy expressed a word of vulgarity he couldn't help but widen his eyes only for a fraction of a second. It surprised him to hear her curse as it didn't happen often. If it did, it wasn't quite as vulgar of a word as s he'd just used. He didn't respond back to the curse as it wasn't something that needed responding to. Instead he only cast his eyes downwards, not quite wanting to look her in the eye at the moment. Angel knew she'd been trying to keep him losing his soul a secret. Hell, he'd been trying to as well. Apparently that just wasn't how the cards had wanted to fall in this particular situation. Unfortunately for the gang it seemed the cards never fell quite how they wanted them to. Seemed like that was just how it'd always been and he didn't truthfully think that would ever change.
Hearing her voice again his eyes slowly shifted upwards to look into hers, afraid of whatever in the hell it was she wanted to ask. When someone started off a question like that, it never ended well. As she began he arched his eyebrows as if telling her to continue, to just come out and say whatever it was that she so desperately needed to ask. Even before she'd asked he'd sort of already known what it was, but hadn't wanted to interrupt her. "Yes..." he said in reference to Giles knowing about Angelus, urging her to go on. Although he was pretty darned sure that he knew what she was going to ask he still wanted her to be the one to ask. He didn't want to say it for her, he wanted her to come out and say it.
Finally it seemed that she'd finally asked her question. In the literal sense she hadn't actually asked the question, but she'd at least eluded to it. Although she wasn't looking at him he looked at her straight on, clearly not a fan of the subject. While he didn't like talking about it he also wasn't going to get pissed off or angry about it either. "He doesn't know about you and Angelus, if that's what you're asking..." he stated, his voice trailing off into the distance. As he said this he stared at her for a few moments before realizing that she wasn't going to look back at him and finally turned away. Back to looking out the window, he couldn't help but sigh as he thought about her with Angelus again.
Still looking at the window he watched as a couple rain drops began to fall. It seemed to rain a lot here in Richmond and vaguely he wondered if they were actually in Seattle, Washington, instead. "Giles knows how I lost my soul. He knows I killed the potentials, and that Willow returned my soul. That's it" he told her, not looking at her directly while he spoke. It wasn't a conversation that he had originally wanted to have. However he'd wanted to at least warn her that the watcher knew prior than Giles confronting her himself. It seemed like the right thing to do and despite being slightly pained about it, he was still a champion, and had been forced to do the right thing.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Looking down at her feet she couldn’t help but stay silent. Really, what was she supposed to say? She was glad that he seemed to understand what she was asking but at the same time she truly hated having to ask him at all. If she was a bit more mature…no…mature wasn’t the right word. If she had a bigger backbone she would go up to Giles and let it all out on the table, but unfortunately while she could save the world with a smile on her face…she feared being ostracized by the one man who she felt she could rely on in the way a child relies on a father.
Wincing she when she heard the term ‘you and Angelus’ she couldn’t help but let out a sigh of relief that Giles didn’t know about the fact that she had slept with Angelus. She prayed he would never find out…hell she prayed that no one other than those who knew would ever find out. Luckily everyone who knew about her dive into the land of insanity she knew she could trust…which did allow her to breathe easier. Willow wouldn’t betray her trust as that’s not what best friend’s did. Faith wouldn’t want to cause the unnecessary drama that it would ensue. Spike wouldn’t want to even speak the words out loud. Kathy really didn’t know that it had happened, though she knew that the young vampire most likely suspected that something was up.
And Angel…Angel wouldn’t want to admit to anyone how badly it hurt him to hear that she had slept with in all actuality his worst enemy.
None of them would tell anyone, but she doubted they realized why she was so against people knowing. It wasn’t for her reputation, it wasn’t for any of that…it was out of fear.
Fear of what would happen should it become public knowledge.
Taking a deep breath she stood up and walked over to the window, wanting more than anything to touch Angel but not knowing if it would be reciprocated so instead she stood next to him, staring down at the street at the same rain drops that he was. “I need you to understand why I needed to know.” She whispered, not wanting to admit her fears out loud but knowing that if anyone would understand them, he would.
He always had been able to understand her. “You need to be careful around Giles…at least for awhile.” She told him, hating the feeling that she was betraying her watcher…but needing Angel to understand the severity of the situation. “Do you remember me telling you about Robin Wood? The principal who worked at the high school who helped us with the First?” She asked him but didn’t give him a chance to reply before continuing. “What I never told you was that his mother was a slayer. He was raised by his mother’s watcher. What I also never told you was that his mother was one of the two slayers that Spike killed.” She stated, needing him to understand that part of the back story. “When Spike first came back to Sunnydale my Freshman year…he was implanted with a chip that essentially made it to where he couldn’t hurt people. After awhile, after he got his soul…the chip started malfunctioning and the First was using it to screw with him.” She told him, knowing that it was a lot more complicated than that but figuring it was easier to explain that way.
“Spike turned a bunch of people while he had his soul…and Giles found out. Him and Robin Wood teamed up and while Giles kept me busy…Robin tried to kill Spike…but they were in on it together. I figured it out and luckily no one got seriously hurt…but Giles tried to have Spike killed…and that was at a time where I needed Spike there. I needed that back up because at that moment, none of those potentials had slayer strength, we didn’t know how to fight the first…and I didn’t have Faith there backing me up. It was essentially me and Spike who were the only two who had a chance in hell at fighting…and Giles tried to have him killed.” She stated, still looking down at the window before glancing up at him, taking the chance she had wanted to and pressing her hand against his face, needing him to face her.
“I couldn’t bare the thought of that happening to you. I don’t have any misconceptions on who would win in a fight…between you and him. But either way if it came down to it I would lose one of you…and I couldn’t handle that.” She told him, hoping he would see.

Angel heard movement behind him but made no attempt to turn to look at her. In all actuality while he hated the subject and despised talking about it he wasn't currently angry. Yes he was definitely still upset about the situation as a whole but he was no longer angry. Whenever he seen flashbacks of it or was forced to dream about it, he found himself angry. However luckily for the both of them he wasn't angry in this very moment, in this very second. Instead he was just...well he wasn't sure what he was. At having to talk about it, he felt as if he might be considered aloof of all things. Although the other night he'd held her and they'd kissed, they hadn't yet kissed tonight. While they'd expressed their love the other night, they hadn't yet tonight. Tonight he was being rather aloof. First because of her leaving and not telling him, then because of the topic she'd chosen.
Tonight...he was brooding.
While he hated to admit that he was in fact brooding, he was. At the moment he wasn't even looking at her. If there was an Olympic event for who could brood the best, he'd have the most medals. It may have seemed stupid for him to acknowledge this, but why shouldn't he? Everyone else made comments about him brooding so often. Spike was definitely one to often comment on how often he brooded. Speaking of Spike...well speaking of him just made him want to punch a wall. Or punch a Spike, if he could find him. The sissy had been staying far away from the boarding house lately. That was fine with him. If he wanted to be a little girl, he could be one. Away from Buffy and Katheryn.
Feeling the slayer's presence next to him, the both of them stayed facing out the window. They both looked down onto the quiet suburban street and watched the tiny little rain drops pelt against the window. At her voice he didn't speak in response, but simply nodded his head once as if telling her to continue. While he may not like the upcoming explanation he should at least listen to it. He would always listen to what she had to say, even if he didn't exactly want to hear it. Just like despite what she did he would always love her. He'd be pissed off as hell, but he'd never stop loving her. Hadn't thus far after everything they'd been through, what could possibly make him stop doing so?
However he found himself a tad bit agitated once she began speaking about all of her past men. She'd gone out on a date with this Robin fellow and as for Spike, well...he'd rather not even go into that. As she went on about how Spike sired people and killed and maimed, all he could think was how in the hell she ever let that man back into her heart. However clearly he was being a giant hypocrite as she'd let him back in as well. Actually...she'd let him back in just recently, he'd killed people a little over two months ago. So while he hated Spike, he couldn't ever use this as ammo against him. Unfortunately enough, he was no better.
The story however only fueled his hatred for Spike even further. He did get what she was trying to tell him though. He had to be careful around Giles. Clearly the Brit had more balls than he'd imagined. Feeling the warmth of her skin against his, he allowed his face to be turned to face hers. Before speaking he simply nodded and then paused, allowing himself to soak in the feeling of her touch. "I would never hurt Giles. Not even if he attacked me he told her, brown eyes boring into hers. "But I understand" his words were soft and his hand moved to push away a few loose strands of blonde hair around her eyes. As he did this, the moonlight shining through the window swept across her delicate features. She truly looked beautiful in this moment.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -She nodded once, knowing that he would never hurt Giles. "I couldn't stand to watch him hurt you though. And then things would be all bad. So please Angel just be careful." She told him, running her fingers over his cheek bones as to try and reassure herself that he was in fact sitting right in front of her and not in any way in danger. "I can’t lose you again." She told him, her eyes boring into his. It was clear from the look on her fact that this was a real fear of hers. There were so many ways that they had been separated that she couldn't bare to deal with any of them again.
It would break her.
She felt his fingers brush away a few loose strands of hair and she closed her eyes briefly, relishing his touch at that moment. She didn't know why but she felt like something else was going on, something that he wanted to say as he had clearly reverted to his monosyllabic self and was barely speaking. "Angel...what's the matter?" She asked him, her eyes looking up at him. Her eyes in which showed that despite her young face how much she had truly seen and dealt with throughout her life.
Something was wrong with him tonight. He had seemed agitated when she had walked in when he asked her where she had been. He seemed distant when she spoke (though she knew why since the topic had been Angelus) and yet just a few days ago they had been open and honest with one another. So what had happened between then and now to cause him to pull back? She didn’t understand it and she sure as hell didn’t like it.
She wished more than anything that he would simply take her into his arms and reassure her that they were going to be okay. Around him she was still that sixteen year old girl who needed her older and wiser boyfriend to take care of her. She didn’t know why she felt like that as she had clearly taken care of herself for years and could do it again…and yet she didn’t want too. Every girl, no matter who they are and how strong they are, has the desire somewhere, deep down, to be taken care of. She had been the caregiver for years and she wished someone for once would take care of her.
However she wasn’t selfish enough to ask.

The feeling of her fingers caressing his face so gently sent chills down his spine. Every time they moved across his cheek he felt himself shiver a small amount. He closed his eyes briefly just to enjoy the feeling of her warmth against his own cold, marble skin. It wasn't something that he'd gotten to feel much as of lately and so while he had it, he'd enjoy it. After a few moments of cherishing the feeling his eyes opened back up slowly to look into hers. Being a head taller than her he had to look down to look at her, tilting his head downwards towards her. "I will be" he promised, and it was the truth. With this information he knew he had to be weary around the old watcher. Being that even before this they had a past with each other, he should have known this already.
The sad look in her eyes seemed to melt away any annoyed feelings he'd possessed earlier. The hand that had swept her hair back moved so that one thumb slowly caressed her own cheek bone. It seemed that even if it was only a little, the two needed to be touching. "I promised you I wasn't going anywhere and I meant it" he spoke softly, his voice as velvety as it had ever been and ever hoped to be. If there was one thing Angel knew would be busy, it was keeping a promise to her. Despite how it might make other aspects of his life hard that one decision would be easy to make. He didn't want to ever hurt her, nor did he ever want to leave her again. He'd keep his promise, despite what kind of consequences it might bring for the both of them.
Her question seemed to take him off guard a bit. As he heard it, his eyes widened and then narrowed in a second trying to figure out what he'd done to make her think something was wrong. He was brooding tonight, yes, but not because of her. "Nothing is wrong" he cooed, stroking her cheek once again. His other hand that had been at his side reached over to interlace with her own fingers, holding her hand. "I was just thinking about Giles, and the ghosts..." he said, his eyes looking down to his feet. "But nothing is wrong" he finally finished. His eyes went back up to hers as he spoke, giving her hand a small squeeze. They would get through this. They got through everything.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Nodding once she relaxed minutely. She needed to know that he would be careful, that he wouldn’t take any unnecessary risks. She didn’t think Giles would actually do anything to harm Angel as the situations between Spike and her and Angel and her were very different, but then again she had never really thought that he would try and have Spike killed either so maybe she wasn’t the one that should be saying what she thought. She did know that there were no questions about the way she felt about Angel like there had been about Spike. Everyone knew…without a doubt that Angel was the love of her world. And that if it came down to it, she would side with Angel over almost anyone else.
Hearing his promise she leaned her face into his palm, almost nuzzling it. “I know I sound like a clingy basket case right now but…I can’t help it.” She stated, not really knowing how to tell him the feelings that were bubbling up inside of her. “I know that you and I know how to function apart…we’ve done it before and if we had to we could do it again…and that scares me. I don’t want to be without you. And I know you’re probably getting sick of having to promise me that you won’t leave again…but I can’t help that fear inside me that somehow…something will tear us apart.” She told him honestly.
She stared at him, knowing that while he may be telling a partial truth…there was something else hidden in those dark brown orbs. She knew him better than she knew anyone, knowing how he thought, the way he acted…and most importantly in that moment the way he spoke to her. “Liar.” She told him with a smile, showing that while she may have been acting playful in that moment, the sentiment was real in the way that she knew he wasn’t telling the full truth. She needed him to understand that she knew him well enough to see that there was something else bothering him.
“I came up here earlier and you looked almost…annoyed to see me. Then the way you barked out where I had been. Those are not two things that I’m used to when it comes to you Angel.” She told him, her hand still stroking his face. “I’m used to your voice being all…soothing and what not as you ask me how my day was. So what’s the deal tonight? I haven’t seen you in a couple days and for some reason you acted as if you hadn’t wanted to see me. Did I interrupt your night or something?” She asked him, grasping at straws but still not sure what she had done to anger him earlier.

Although most people wouldn't guess it, the slayer did tend to be insecure every so often. Usually he noticed that most of the insecurities lied in their relationship. He was mostly to blame, after having always been the one to leave her. Because of the fact that it was caused by him, he didn't mind when she acted insecure with him. No matter how many times she asked him to promise over and over, he'd promise her again. As many times as it took for her to truly believe him, that was how many times he'd say it. "Hey he called out to her, his hand dropping away from her cheek. Both hands then went up to lightly cup her petite face between his very large hands. "Nothing will tear us apart. Nothing can" he told her, his voice strong in order to reassure her as his brown eyes bored into hers.
Everything between them that they'd ever kept from each other was now out in the open. She knew about his son, about Cordelia, he knew her exact feelings about Spike. Angel also knew all about her activities with Angelus and her feelings towards his other half. There was nothing left for him to hide, nothing left that he thought she might be hiding. Everything was on the table and they were still here. That had to mean something, didn't it? It did. It meant that they were strong. They were above all of their secrets. Nothing could tear them apart from each other now as there was simply nothing left to do so. He only hoped that she believed him, as he certainly believed it to be true.
Although he'd thought that he had been pretty believable, Buffy had seen right through him. It shouldn't have been all that much of a surprise considering how well they knew each other. The two of them could communicate without words if they had to, just by looking into each other's eyes. His words had been seen as false by her and she'd called him out on it. Did he tell her what he'd been doing? After all they'd been trying to tell each other everything lately. But could he really tell her? On one hand he didn't want to seem as if he was...silly, for lack of a better word. On the other hand he also didn't want to give her false hope.
Angel shook his head. "No, you didn't interrupt my night" he said simply, trying to avoid telling her the truth without actually lying. However before he was off the hook he noticed the look she gave him and decided he'd better continue. "You just hadn't called, so..." and again, another look. Clearly he just needed to come out and say it. "Fine. I was researching making my soul permanent. I haven't found anything and it was frustrating." There. Now everything was fully out on the table. How would she react? Only time would tell.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Hearing his velvet voice was like a soothing wrap around her body. He could calm her down with just a simple word or a touch...he had always been able to do so. She could clearly remember coming back after being in Los Angeles the summer after she had been killed by the Master. She had tried to keep him at arms length and yet it hadn't worked. As soon as she had her melt down after breaking all the Master's bones it was he that came to her, wrapping his arms around her and holding her, calming her with just a few words. It wasn't Giles that rushed to her, not Willow or Xander or Jenny or Cordelia. It was Angel.
It had always been Angel.
"I know." She whispered, reveling in his strength. She was used to being the strong one, the one that everyone depended on. It was nice for just a moment not to have to be the strongest. Some would say that Angel was the strongest one...but really they were equals. He was strong when she needed his strength, and she was strong when he needed hers. They had a give and take relationship, a partnership, and it was one of the strongest that anyone had ever seen.
Hearing his statement about her not calling the pieces immediately came to place...however before she could comment she heard what he was doing and she looked at him sadly, yet there was a strength in her eyes that would astound most people. See, he had been strong for her...and now it was her turn to be strong for him. Taking his hand and pulling her to the chair that sat next to her bed she pushed him down gently before placing her own weight atop his knee, leaning back into him. Most women wouldn't have the nerve to force herself on top of some guy, especially when it wasn't a sexual thing at all, yet she did it without blinking.
Turning her head to look up at him she smiled compassionately. "So we look at different books. We search the internet. Hell I'll go track down a Gypsy if I have too. We'll find a way Angel." She told him softly, her eyes burning with determination. "And you know as well as I do that when I want something bad enough, there's not a whole lot that can stop me from getting it." She told him with a grin.
Her hand reached up to stroke his chin before she placed a chaste kiss to it. "As for me not calling you...I'm sorry. I left in a crazy hurry, leaving in the middle of dinner with Xander and Willow. It didn't even occur to me that someone would worry about me. It's been a long time since I had anyone really worry about my whereabouts. I mean sure Willow and Dawn used to worry but with Dawn not being here and Willow knowing she doesn't have to constantly look over her shoulder...we've all sort of let things slip like checking in." She told him apologetically. "It's been awhile since I had anyone care enough to want to know where I was." She whispered.

Cupping her face in his hands she slowly rubbed her cheeks with both of his thumbs for a moment before releasing her again. As she responded, he gave her his signature little half smile. Next he leaned in and planted a soft kiss on her lips. It wasn't fiery nor was it super hot, it was simply sweet. It was sweet and genuine and loving, all the things that most girls loved anyways. Being soft and gentle with her seemed natural to him. While yes she was just as strong as he was, she was just so damned little. Not mention, deep down she truly has a gentle heart. Some might not think so, but Angel knows her better than anyone else in the world. Truly knowing her meant that he understood how sweet she could be. Therefore, he didn't feel strange with these nice gestures like he would with anyone else.
The slayer’s true age was held in her eyes. Although she was just as beautiful as ever, one could seen through her eyes just how much she’d been through. It held all of the pain and suffering over all of the years since becoming a slayer. Or hell even before that, as her parents had fought quite often while she’d been growing up. Since becoming a slayer she’d not only been forced to make all of the hard decisions for everyone else but she’d also died…twice. The first time had only been for a few minutes but still, it had definitely taken a toll on her. The second time she’d been gone for months and honestly…she’d changed after that. Some of the fight had been taken out of her after that. Angel felt like maybe, he encouraged a bit of that fight to come back. He didn’t want to toot his own horn; she just seemed….better when he was around.
Angel allowed her to pull him over to the chair and when she leaned back against him, he wrapped his arms around her. It seemed that she still fit perfectly within his arms just as she ever had. She was the only person he’d ever truly held like this. Darla…they’d been all physical, nothing like this. Angel took a moment to think before responding. ”Okay. But --- I don’t want anyone to know yet…not unless it’s possible. Especially not Giles.” Willow would know, he was sure, within seconds of her seeing Buffy that he’d been looking into it. When you dated the girl, you were involved with her friends. It just sort of happened like that. Luckily for her, Angel didn’t currently have any friends. He’d gotten Doyle back recently but Doyle was perfectly content not talking to Buffy. In fact, he didn’t think that they’d talked once since his return.
Although he understood why she hadn’t thought to tell him, it still wasn’t necessarily okay in his mind. Someone should always knew where one was at in case something happened to them. If she had never come back…how would he have known where to look? Still, he nodded his head. ”I care” he told her softly, moving one of his arms so that he could easily stroke her hair. They both loved to stroke one another’s hair, it was slightly strange in a way. ”Please, just tell me next time. Okay?” With this he leaned down and placed a soft kiss on the crown of her skull through her hair, then going back to continue stroking it afterwards.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Sighing in contentment, she allowed her entire body relax into the arms of her...well...she didn't really know what the hell he was...he was her Angel. That was really all she could say for the moment. She wished she had a label for him, but at the same time even if they did have a label, nothing really seemed to fit. Even back in Sunnydale, when they had been a 'couple', the word couple didn't seem to completely describe him. Calling him her boyfriend was strange because that's not all that he was. He wasn't a boy in the strictest sense...but manfriend sounded really ridiculous. Soul-mates were the best words to describe them...but it wasn't like she could randomly introduce him as such.
Alright, she was getting off on an internal tangent and that was never a good thing.
Nodding her head at his statement she couldn't agree more. "Not only Giles...I don't really want anyone knowing yet." She stated, though didn't say who particularly out loud. She knew what Spike would say if he found out...and she really didn't want to tell him the truth, that what he would offer, was something that she had already looked into a long time ago.
When Spike had been coherent enough after having his soul returned to him, she had asked him how he got it. After hearing of the different trials he had to go through in order to get it, she was amazed at how much strength he had. When she had told him so, he had replied that she had given him the strength to do what he needed to do to be good for her. Granted, that wasn't the case now and she was glad that they had gotten over the awkwardness of it...but that wasn't the point.
She knew, or at least she thought she had a pretty good idea, that if Angel told anyone that he was looking at a way to anchor his soul and Spike found out...he'd tell him to go through the same trials (if it was possible) to get his soul permanently attached to him. In theory this sounded great, in actuality, it wasn’t as simple as it sounded.
She had done a bit of research on her own and found out that while yes, Angel could do it…it would require one tiny thing…one tiny thing that there was no way in hell either of them would go through. It would require Angel losing his soul again and then Angelus going up against the trials…which everyone who knew even the tiniest detail about Angelus would know that there was no way that he would even pretend to do it…let alone actually do so. She knew Angel would get that, but she tried to avoid bringing up Angelus as much as possible so she figured not allowing Spike to hear about it was the best way possible to deal with it. “Don’t want to get anyone’s hopes up.” She stated after several moments of silence, making it obvious that she had been lost in her thoughts.
Feeling his hands run through her hair she sighed happily, snuggling her face into his chest. While in his arms she felt like she could simply relax, even if it was for the briefest of moments...as she knew that in his arms, no one would harm her. "I promise." She told him softly.
Feeling her jeans digging into her she groaned before pulling away, standing up slowly. "Alright, hold that thought." She told him with a smile. "I need a shower and a change of clothes." She stated, leaning over and pecking his lips briefly before heading over to her dresser and pulling out a few items of clothing before closing the drawer. "Ten minutes." She told him with a grin, knowing there was no way she was showering in as little as ten minutes.
She had a feeling he probably knew that too.

I figure if so in my next post she can come out and ask if they can just spend some quiet time together or something and they can snuggle and read or whatever and then he can be all cute and romantic and yeah, I’m done rambling now. Anyway, let me know.

Thankfully Buffy completely agreed with him on not wanting anyone to know. He was glad too because if she'd wanted otherwise, that would have surely been an argument. He didn't think it'd be smart to tell anyone just yet. While some people like Faith and Willow would be happy for them, others would only disapprove. Mainly Giles and Xander that he could think of at the moment. Giles did have a good reason for disliking Angel, he'd killed his soul-mate. Jenny had been to Giles what Buffy was to him. For that he would never forgive himself and he knew it. However he shouldn't ever forgive himself nor should he forget. Giles never would, so he shouldn't be able to. Now Xander on the other hand had initially disliked him because he'd been jealous. At the time Xander had contained feelings for Buffy. Even now he still carried that resentment, whether over Buffy or because of him losing his soul and killing Jenny, he didn't know. Xander had never liked him and he knew that wouldn't change. Nonetheless, he didn't care. However if Xander showed up in Richmond and called him dead boy, he would surely pop him one good.
Immediately his eyes shifted downwards to look at her, eyebrows raised. Clearly she didn't want a certain someone to know but she hadn't elaborated. He wouldn't ask as deep down he thought he knew. Fucking Spike...With a small nod, he went back to looking at the top of her head as she leaned against him. "I think that's best" he said softly, thinking of all of the repercussions if they told the wrong person. God only knew what could happen but it probably wouldn't be too good. Truthfully he didn't want to think about that. As long as they both kept their traps shut, they'd be fine. He wouldn't stop looking though. Without being able to be with her, he was nothing.
In all actuality he hadn't wanted to tell her for the very reason she spoke aloud. Angel hadn't wanted to get her hopes up and to get excited about it. It was still only a thought in his mind, his obsession even. Nothing was concrete and honestly he hadn't really gotten anywhere with his research. Ceasing to stroke her hair, both of his strong arms moved to completely wrap her up within them. They fit around her entire body nearly and remained near her midsection with one hand on top of another. "Yeah, that's why I wasn't going to tell you...but you see right through me" he told her snottily. "I couldn't really lie to you even if my life depended on it" he then added with a small chuckle. While he'd really been joking, there was a bit of truth to it. While he couldn't flat out lie to her...he could hold back the truth easily. As with Darla and Connor, and Cordelia. In his mind that wasn't lying it was simply holding back the truth and leaving things out. It was different. To him, at least.
Loosening his arms as she moved, he allowed her to relax against his chest. While it didn't beat for her, he felt like she didn't mind much anymore. He didn't respond to her promise. A promise was all that he'd wanted. Eventually though she got up and told him she needed to shower. Angel nodded in response and returned her kiss sweetly. He may be a large vampire, but he was a teddy bear deep down. With her anyways. He rolled his eyes with a small smirk, knowing she'd be gone for far longer than ten minutes. Nonetheless he nodded again and remained in the chair, awkwardly wondering if he was supposed to come with her or something....he couldn't tell, so he simply sat there. He'd probably go grab a book or something while he waited.
