- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Thank god this day was over. That was all he could think about as he went into the bathroom at the Mystic Grill and quickly changed out of his work uniform and into clothing that were more suited for his person. Throwing on a pair of faded blue jeans, brown boots, and American Eagle gray and blue t-shirt and a blue and white plaid over shirt, he was much more suited for a night out. Granted, he wasn’t headed out to do anything spectacular, but he was headed somewhere after work. It was actually quite surprising that he was going anywhere other than home or the store as he had become a bit of a hermit recently with everything that had gone on.
Hell in this town it was almost safer to stay inside than to wander around outside.
Throwing some water on his face to wake him up a bit he took a quick look in the mirror before heading out, shoving his work clothes into the duffel bag that he had brought with him. Tonight was the Founder’s Picnic, though this would be a huge deal in any other town, in Mystic Falls it was really just another party. Their town was slightly obsessed with its heritage so to speak which was ridiculous since they had an entire family of Original Vampires living in the town itself…so having a nighttime picnic was just asking for trouble…but who asked him? Yeah, no one.
He hadn’t planned on going but after being begged by more than one person (and by person he meant Caroline, Bonnie and Elena) he figured he couldn’t say no. He had always been a tad bit whipped when it came to his female friends…and Caroline even more so since he was still in love with her…though he’d bite his tongue before admitting that to anyone. He wasn’t one to look into the face of rejection again and again, so it was much easier to pretend that he was over everything rather than trying to act like a lost puppy dog.
Or at least that’s what he continued to tell himself.
Throwing the duffel bag into his truck he started it up, driving the mile and a half over to the park where the picnic was being held. He would have usually walked but there was always a chance that he was going to end up taking at least one drunk person home before the end of the night and he had learned from experience that it helped to have his truck close by in order to eliminate any accidents.
Yes, his name was Matt Donovan…and this was his life.

Another night in Mystic Falls and another party thrown in the honor of the town itself. It seemed that they couldn't go a full month without having at least one party, if not more. Sometimes she wondered how such a small town could throw so many parties. It did sort of make sense though considering the town's rich history, it just sometimes seemed a bit overwhelming. More than anything it was overwhelming on her credit card. Which tended to cause tension between her and her mother. Apparently a new outfit for each part wasn't considered an emergency in her mother's eyes. To Caroline however, it was very urgent indeed.
However tonight hadn't been a party that had required a grand ball dress, or a dress at all. In fact it was actually quite chilly out tonight. Why they'd decided to throw a picnic after nightfall in a town like this she'd never understand. On some level, the Founders knew that a majority of the population consisted of vampires, they had to. And maybe it wasn't exactly the majority but it was definitely quite a few. With herself being one of them, she didn't mind it being at night. She could go out in the daylight with her ring but sometimes it was nice to hangout with her friends at night like they used to.
Since it was kind of chilly, she'd chosen to wear a simple tank top with a jacket over it. The jacket, while not cheap by any means, was absolutely adorable. Wearing a pair of form fitting jeans to pair it with, she also tied it all in with a pair of brown boots. Also not cheap. That hadn't been a fun conversation with her mother. However the boots just seemed to bring the entire outfit together and honestly, she really thought it was the perfect outfit.
Now having been at the picnic for a little over an hour as she'd help set it up, she was a tad bit tipsy. It seemed that vampire or not it didn't take much alcohol to influence her. It was indeed nice to let loose every once in awhile. Vaguely she wondered if Dean would pop in to the picnic, but highly doubted it. Being his age she doubted he'd want to come to a party like this. More than likely she'd see him later, though she couldn't be sure as they were still on rocky grounds. Filling up her red solo cup from the keg (discretely of course) she made her way back out into the middle of the square. In the distance she spotted Matt approaching the party, a big smile lighting up on her face. Matt was one of her best friends and she hadn't been able to see him very much lately.
Crossing the square and making her way over to him, she leaned in and gave him a quick hug before leaning back away from him. "Hey, I'm glad you got off work early enough to come tonight" she told him with a smile on her face. Noticing he was only in a t-shirt, she mentally shivered at the sight. "Aren't you freezing?!?" she asked, a bit too enthusiastically. Yeah, she was tipsy. Nothing new about that particular situation.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Hearing a voice from behind him he turned around and grinned at his ex girlfriend. Didn't take him more than a moment to realize that she was a bit inebriated and that was even before she made it over to him. Feeling her arms wrap around him he hugged her back, denying the want to kiss her forehead or hold her just a bit too long. He had gotten really good at perfecting the whole 'guy friend with ex girlfriend thing'...not something he liked to brag about since really it was no bragging matter...but either way at least he made it to where he didn't look like an idiot.
"Yeah well, you know I can't say no to the three musketeers when they pull out the puppy dog eyes and the pouts." He stated with a laugh. It was the complete truth though. He could never say no to any woman when they begged him to do something. He wasn't sure why that was since really, look at the role models he had growing up. It's not like he was taught to be old fashioned or anything, yet for some really strange reason that's exactly how he was. He always thought that a man needed to treat a woman with respect and that apparently included doing things that he would usually not do to keep them happy.
Caroline and Elena both had gotten him to go shopping with them to be their bag holder more than once because of those morals.
Rolling his eyes at her random question he shook his head. "No Care, I'm fine. We don't all weigh 12 ounces you know." He stated with a laugh, his blue eyes shining in mischief as he said it. Knowing she would ramble on about clothing choices if he didn't steer the conversation far away from it he motioned to the crowd around them. "So have I missed anything exciting? Anyone make a fool out of themselves yet?"
Looking around the picnic it was clear that everyone was drinking. Okay, what happened to the so called family event that they were totting about. Looked more like a huge party for underage drinking. Yeah, this wouldn’t end well for anyone. Luckily he didn’t see any of the original family walking around but that didn’t mean anything. He also didn’t see Damon, Bonnie, Jeremy, Elena, or anyone else for that matter…the crowd was fairly thick so really anyone could be anywhere.
Wow, great job Founder’s Council. Top notch.

She knew that Matt could immediately tell she was a bit tipsy. Caroline wasn't drunk by any means but she wasn't exactly sober either. It was no secret to anyone that she enjoyed a drink every now and then. Hell, all of her group drank at one point. Bonnie wasn't one to drink often like the rest of them but her, Matt, and Tyler tended to hang out at the keg during parties like these. The founders and other parents pretended not to notice but they all had to know. Yet they continued to bring the booze to the parties anyways, none of them trying to put a stop to it. Not even her own mother was the damned Sheriff of Mystic Falls! If she wasn't going to stop it, no one else was going to. Caroline certainly didn't mind.
Matt's statement was true, her and Elena had basically forced him to come. He'd been such a hermit lately that he'd needed to get out even if he hadn't necessarily wanted to. "What puppy dog eyes? These puppy dog eyes?" she said, forcing herself into a fake pout with her big brown doe eyes shining up at him. After a moment of holding such face she burst out into laughter briefly. The pouts always seemed to get Matt to do things he didn't want to do. They had forced him to do a lot in the past, even including a night of watching girly movies. Especially The Notebook which was her favorite movie. Hell by now, Matt could probably relay the entire movie line by line. They'd definitely had some good times in the past...
The vampire met his eye roll with a quick roll of her own. "I'm five eight. If I weighed 12 ounces, I'd be blowing away in the wind." Her voice was determined as she said this, a quick bat of her eyelashes coming into play. Caroline was the tallest of the girls by nearly a half of a foot, and coming close to some of the guys. When she was younger she'd used to hate being so tall but lately she'd come to embrace it. Plus, who didn't like a girl with longs as leg as the eye could see? Besides that she just had to date taller guys. Dean wasn't the tallest guy around but at least he was taller than her.
Taking his question into consideration, she sucked on her beer for a few moments as they looked around the picnic. After a moment of thought she turned back to him and shook her head. "No, not really. Haven't seen Elena or Bonnie yet. I did see Amy Burley though..she totally likes you." A big smile on her face, she tilted her head in the direction of the girl that was clearly staring at Matt. Amy had liked him for years but hadn't ever said anything to him. Perhaps tonight would be her night. Tag: Matt/Open Word Count: 510 Outfit: Click here for Caroline's outfitNotes: Short posts are good! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -He chuckled a bit when he saw her puppy dog eyes and the pout that went along with it. Yep, he was a total sucker for this girl. Even though she wasn't his girl anymore, he'd still do anything for her. Why the heck did he have to be so whipped? Yeah, he really needed to turn in his man card soon if he didn't stop getting pushed into things by his ex girlfriends. Either that or he just needed to find a new girlfriend…one preferably who wouldn’t ditch him for someone who was more ‘supernatural’ than him.
Anyone else in his position might have been bitter, but he wasn’t. At one time he definitely was, both towards Elena and then to Caroline…but now he realized that even though he wished things had turned out differently, he’d much rather be friends than nothing at all.
"Yes, those puppy dog eyes. Though they aren't as effective with the glazed over look, nor the laughing." He stated with a laugh himself. He was only easing her about the glazed over look, as clearly she wasn’t drunk. He had seen drunk Caroline, sober Caroline, a few drinks Caroline and tipsy Caroline. He had seen all the different facades of her personality and while he could usually recognize them on sight if only for his own sense of peace, that didn't mean he didn't enjoy each of them.
Chuckling under his breath at her refusal to believe that she weighed anymore than 12 ounces he held his hands up in a sign of mock surrender. "Okay okay my bad. Thirteen ounces then." He stated, nudging her shoulder with his. He was glad that they had gotten past their awkward 'avoiding one another' place and had fallen back into the comfort of being friends. That didn't mean he didn't miss her like hell because he did. He would be lying if he said that he didn't hate the fact that she had fallen for someone else, no matter who it was. He would always be happy for her if she found who she was supposed to be with…
But that didn't mean he didn't secretly wish it was him that she was meant to be with.
Hearing her statement about not having seen Bonnie or Elena he took another look around before shrugging. "I text messaged Bonnie on my way here as she text messaged me earlier telling me Elena's phone got broken. Something about running and it breaking and yeah I don't know. However as far as she knew everyone was still coming." He stated being rolling his eyes at her matchmaking attempts.
Again, he would be lying if he said that her trying to set him up with some girl didn't bother him. “I think I’m going to avoid dating any girls from Mystic for awhile. Never seems to end well for me. A bunch of guys from the team are heading to Richmond in the next couple of weeks as we’ve got three games in a row there and we’re just staying during the weekend…maybe I’ll find someone there.” He stated off handedly, not really thinking of how that sounded. Taking another sip of her cup, she realized she would need another refill soon. Either she was drinking much too fact or the cup was just too small. It was more than likely a mixture of both of the factors when she really thought about it. When he made the comment about her eyes being glazed over she narrowed her eyes on him over the rim of her cup. After taking a drink, her other hand went to her hip. "I am so not drunk, Matt Donovan. Not even close!" With this, her hand left her hip and playfully punched him in the shoulder. She had to watch her strength with him which kind of sucked, though she'd barely hit him enough to where he'd been able to feel it.
These were the times she'd missed. Now that they were over each other, it seemed they were getting back to being close like they'd used to. It was different now and they were only friends, but they were close nonetheless. Sometimes when she saw that certain twinkle in his blue eyes she wondered if she was truly over him or not, but didn't want to think about the subject for too long of a time. Honestly it just confused her. Was she so boy crazy that she just couldn't get over any of her exes? Matt had broken her heart when he hadn't been able to get over her being a vampire. Then Tyler had skipped town and left her, and then Klaus had left town as well. Granted Klaus hadn't really been a relationship. In fact they'd only made out once, and it'd been super rocky after that. However she couldn't help but feel like she had the worst luck in the world in her previous romantic experiences...
"Do you want a beer? I think you need a beer" she said, making up his mind for him. With this she interlocked her arm with his and began dragging him over to the keg. Not only did he need a cup, but she needed a refill. Why not kill two birds with one stone? She'd never really gotten that metaphor. When one really thought about it, it was actually kind of disturbing. Killing poor defenseless birds and all. God how did she get so sidetracked?
After him giving up and admitting to thirteen ounces instead of twelve, she simply gave him the eye. He knew what that look meant! "That doesn't surprise me. About Elena --- ya know, breaking her phone. That girl has even worse luck than me" she told him with a simple sigh. As they made their way to the keg, she filled up her glass and offered one to him, though wasn't sure if he'd take it. "You need to loosen up, Matt. And who better to have fun with than me?" she asked with a charming smile, clearly trying to persuade him.
Caroline smacked Matt in the arm. Again not hard, but any kind of touch with him felt comforting. She couldn't tell anyone why, it just was. "Do not roll your eyes at me. She's cute, and is totally drooling all over you, whilst giving me the stink eye." Looking over to Amy, all she could do was laugh. Hearing about him going to Richmond she nodded her head. She didn't comment on it as she didn't want to. Again, she had no clue why. It just wasn't something she wanted him to go further into.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Rolling his eyes at the blonde standing next to him he took the cup from her and headed over to the keg, refilling it before she could even ask to have another one. He saw her go for the nozzle on the keg but took it from her, letting him feel like the guy for the moment and refill it for her. Not that she would ask him but at least this way he knew that no one was trying to take advantage of her drunken like state. Sure she really didn't need his protection, not anymore, being that she could quite literally kill someone before they had a chance to blink...however Matt was nothing if not chivalrous and this way at least he felt the tiniest bit useful...something he tended to need in the crazy lives that they all lived.
“Alright drunkie.” He stated with a wink, letting her know that he was just kidding around. “Keep drinking then.” He told her, handing her the cup back and taking a sip of his own. He wasn’t one to drink when he had to drive but he figured that if he got too drunk then he would just walk home. Then again, he had a fairly high tolerance for alcohol so he could have a few beers and not even be tipsy. Unlike his companion next to him…but he wouldn’t say that particular comment out loud.
Laughing at her comment about Elena he nodded. "And that's saying something because I swear between the two of you, all of us are going to go permanently gray. If Elena's not in danger than you are...if you're not kidnapped she is. I mean I think we need to put both of you in plastic bubbles to keep you two out of danger." He stated with a laugh, though there was definitely truth to his statement. The two of them seemed to have a competition over who could get into the most trouble and there were times that he had thought about locking both of them up and throwing away the key just to keep them safe. This of course was before he had found out that Caroline was a vampire but even then she couldn't seem to keep herself out of trouble.
Pretending to be hurt when she smacked him in the arm he gripped it before laughing. He knew that if she wanted to she could hurt him, but it was just a Caroline move to smack him so he played along...liking the fact that they still were able to mess around. Again, he would be lying if he said that there were times where he wanted nothing more than to pull her into his arms and make her forget that he had ever doubted that he could handle her life...but he refused to ruin their friendship so he kept those thoughts to himself.
Better to be friends than nothing at all.
"Not sure why she would be giving you the stink eye. Everyone knows we broke up Care...not like it's a secret." He stated, looking down at his cup before shaking it off. "Are you guys cheering at the game in Richmond in two weeks? If so you need to book your hotel room now since there are three games in a row." He asked, if nothing else than to break the all of a sudden awkward silence.

Before Caroline had even gotten the chance to fill her own cup up Matt had stolen her cup from her hand and began to fill it up. Her hand fell to her hip as she simply stood there and watched him. It was something so small and simple yet completely chivalrous and adorable. It was one of the things she’d always loved most about Matt. Matt loved taking care of her. Honestly, Matthew Donovan loves taking care of girls in general. However she’d enjoyed actually being taken care of compassionately. Her mom had taken care of her in the physical sense yes, but she hadn’t been compassionate about it, nor had she been emotional. Which was another thing she really liked about Matt; he wasn’t afraid to be emotional with her. Now as she stood there watching him fill her glass she couldn’t help but let her doe eyes glaze over seriously this time, though not because she was drunk.
When he called her drunkie she laughed for a moment before trying to make a serious face at him, giving him the stinky eye about it. ”Trust me, you’ll know it when I’m drunk” she said with another laugh. Usually she got either emotional, or she got loud and slightly obnoxious. When she was being the happy drunk she was friends with everyone. She hung on people and just wanted to dance and have fun. Soon she knew she’d want to dance, but she’d wait to see if anyone else would first. Not that she was scared or anything, just because. Taking the cup from him she quickly raised it to her pink pout lips and took a decent sized swig. ”I intend to. And then do you know what we're going to do?” she asked, turning to him. Once she had his attention she leaned in to him really close, so close that their noses were actually brushing one another’s.
”We’re gonna dance.” Although she said it simply, she knew it wouldn’t be simple. Getting Matt to dance with her would prove harder than it looked. Nonetheless she’d make him if she had to, as she loved to dance. And sing, but she certainly didn’t have the avenue to sing tonight. Sticking her tongue out at him she straightened back up and pulled away from him. Maybe she shouldn’t have gotten so close, but she felt really comfortable with him. Plus she loved to mess with him, which also had something to do with it. Caroline rolled her eyes. ”Tell me about it. Our lives have all been totally sucko lately, and I intend to forget that and have a good time tonight. No kidnappings. No injuries. No originals, and no dead bodies. Sound like a plan?” she asked, pursing her lips as she waited for a response.
Hopefully Elena or Bonnie or someone would show up soon before she became too inebriated and began to hang all over the boy.
Caroline shrugged. ”Must just be because I’m pretty” she said in a serious tone. She was joking clearly, but hey, she’d thought it was pretty funny. Honestly she didn’t know why Amy was looking at her like that either. Whatever. ”And I know it’s not a secret, I know. Just seems like it was yesterday ya know? Anyways…” the blonde said, looking off into the distance. Awkward….Thankfully Matt switched to another topic before it was awkward for much longer. At his next question she turned and her eyes widened, looking at him incredulously. ”Oh-my-god….I forgot to book a room. OF COURSE I’m cheering, I’m the CAPTAIN. I can’t believe I forgot…” she said with a sigh. After a moment of thinking she simply sighed again. ”Hopefully I’ll even get a room.” With this, she simply looked down at her cup and took another swig. She was going to need it.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -He tried his best not to laugh at the blonde vampire standing next to him but really, what else could he do? She was clearly on her way to getting drunk and yet she was telling him that he would know it when she was drunk? She was acting as if he didn’t know her better than most people around. He loved this girl more than he cared to admit but sometimes she didn’t think before she spoke. Okay, scratch that, most of the time she didn’t think before she spoke. That was actually something that had gotten them into quite a few fights while they had been dating…because he tended to over think things and she didn’t think about things before she said them.
Didn’t matter anymore, he was just saying.
Oh there were so many come backs that if he was anyone else but himself he would say. Her demand to dance was something that was completely Caroline and yet she didn't seem to remember that he had a choice at the moment. When they were together she used to beg him to dance with her all the time and like a good boyfriend he did it because he loved her and wanted to make her happy. However with that being said times had changed. They weren't together so technically he had a choice...not that he would ever say exactly what he had just thought out loud being that it was quite rude and that wasn't him...but still...was nice to know he had a choice in the matter.
"That's what you think." He stated with a laugh, taking another sip of his beer. Thinking about it for a moment he took a large gulp of his beer instead of a small sip. Hanging out with the girl he was still pining for all night was going to require some liquid courage on his part. Not enough to get stupid drunk but enough to stop the rumblings inside his head from reminding him over and over again that she was no longer his girl.
Smirking he nodded and then patted her arm like someone would a child. "You keep thinking that Care... the day that we all have a Founder's anything without some big catastrophe happening is the day that..." He trailed off, thinking of something that would never happen but that was huge in itself. "Is the day that... Yeah I can't think of anything other than Klaus saying that he's done with hybrids and is leaving Mystic Falls forever..." He stated, having wanted to say something about him or Caroline but not being able to come up with anything. Clearly he needed more alcohol.
Smiling and leaning over, kissing the crown of her head in a gentle, friendly manner though it clearly meant more to him than her...he nodded. "You're not pretty Care...you're beautiful." He stated, knowing that he was opening up something that he should have remained closed but not being able to help himself. "You're right...it does feel like yesterday." He whispered right before she started wigging out about not booking a room.
Yeah, he was about ready to do something incredibly stupid. Yep, that was him. He was a sucker for this girl and had been for a long time. "I have my own room Care. I didn't feel like sharing with any of the guys. If you can't get one booked you can always bunk with me. I asked for one with two beds simply to have more room so there's an extra bed there if you need it." He told her honestly. Hopefully they wouldn't screw up his hotel reservation and give him one bed...that would be something that would definitely happen to him...because that was his luck.

Tonight was turning out to be pretty fun, even if it was just the both of them without any of the rest of her friends. It seemed that her and Matt were getting along better than ever. No fights about her being a vampire and he hadn't even brought it up just yet. Perhaps he had momentarily forgot. Which she probably shouldn't hope for as that wasn't the healthiest idea, but hey, at least it meant they could laugh and just hangout. Her eyes narrowed in on his as he tried to act as if he wasn't going to dance with her. "Really Matt?!?" she asked, only a little louder than she should have. Although she was the tallest and overall biggest of all the girls, she was still no where near being big. IE...she shouldn't have been drinking like she was, but eh, she didn't care too much at the moment.
"You will dance because you simply can't resist me. Okay? K!" Her eyes lit up like a little child as she pretended he'd agreed with her. As they stood there together she let out a small laugh and then gently pushed him in the side with her own side, causing their bodies to become closer. It wasn't weird to her, as they'd been very close at one point. She just hoped her touchy nature wasn't going to weird him out or give him the wrong signals. After all, she was getting more and more tipsy and besides that, It was Matt...whether they were together anymore or not, he was her Matt and would remain that way.
The smiles and laughs immediately left her when Matt brought up Klaus. She knew for a fact that absolutely none of her friends had ever found out about them. However Katherine had, but she wasn't a friend of hers so it didn't count. Although she knew telling Matt would be a really horrible idea, he probably already seen the look on her face when he'd been brought up. With a small sigh she took her cup to her lips and tipped it all the way into her mouth, finishing it off quickly. With her eyes becoming a bit more glazed by the moment and feeling a little courageous, she looked back over to Matt. She set her cup down on a nearby table that was set up and moved closer to him. "I'm gonna tell you something, and you can't freak. No one knows okay?" she asked softly, moving her hand to lightly caress his cheek.
With a deep breath, she continued on..."Klaus is gone. I don't know if it's forever, but he left...and he asked me to go with him." Looking away, she knew he was probably wondering what in the hell she meant by this. Finally looking back at him, she barely choked out the words. "I almost did, Matt. I almost went with him...he --- I --- we kissed before. I know it's horrible, but I was just so lonely before..." she told him, a few tears falling down her features. God dammit why did she feel the need to tell him everything?
Her eyes closed as he kissed the top of her head, simply enjoying the familiar feelings. When he told her she was beautiful she could only smile in return. Her smile only grew as he offered her a solution. "Thanks...I may take that up on you. If we're staying in the same place we did last time, I'll never get my own. Are you gonna watch the Notebook with me?" she said with a wink. Hopefully it wouldn't be weird, sharing a room with her ex and all.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Hearing her outburst about his refusal...or at least his acknowledgement that she wasn't going to get her way, he couldn't help but laugh at her. "Really Caroline?" He asked her in a high voice, clearly mocking her. Yeah, the alcohol was starting to kick in, not in a bad way, just giving him the extra courage he needed. It was more of a mental thing he was sure since technically one beer isn’t going to do anything to a guy as big as he was but still…at least he had a bit of courage. He needed it to handle his issues tonight.
"I can't resist you can I?" He asked with a smirk, wanting to prove her wrong but not sure how to do so. Hmmm...how could he prove her wrong? He thought about it and had an idea, but he'd wait to put it into effect later. He definitely needed a few more beers before he tried to openly defy Caroline Forbes in public. As much as he loved the girl she tended to not deal well when she heard the word 'no' or when she didn't get her way. It used to be something that annoyed the hell out of him but now he found it sort of funny. He knew that sounded mean but eh, he had a lot of issues when it came to the blonde whom he was still extremely in love with...could anyone really blame him? “We’ll see about that.” He stated with another smirk, though on anyone else it would look like a genuine smile.
Stopping after realizing what she said his eyes widened before narrowing into slits. "What do you mean you kissed him!?" He asked her, his voice a hiss...not at all liking what he just heard. "Jesus Caroline, you were lonely?? Really?" He asked her, a pang of hurt shooting through him at hearing that she'd rather kiss a person who had literally ruined all of their lives rather than just wait for him to get his shit together. Wow, guess that answered how she felt about him.
"I need a damn beer." He spit out before walking away, not wanting to admit how badly that actually hurt. Damn, he really needed to get out of this town if this was what he had to look forward too. He had originally started applying at schools around here as he didn't want to leave his friends with everything that had been going on...however in that moment he wondered if he should apply anywhere to get him the hell out of Mystic Falls.

Again her eyes flashed at him as he mocked her. "Hey! I don't sound like that, jerk" she told him, though her light smile let him know that she was only kidding. There was still clearly chemistry between the two and as she looked around, it appeared people agreed with her. Being that she was a vampire she could hear just about everyone here and could hear them quite well. Most people thought there was still something going in between the two, but besides being friends with great chemistry, there truly wasn't. "We will see" she said with her voice low, though still joking. She was going to dance whether it was with him or not. If he wanted to be a big baby he could! It wouldn't bother her a bit. Well okay it might bother her a bit but still...
Even before she'd come out and told him about Klaus she had known how he would react. He was her friend and had only ever wanted the best for her, and here she'd gone and done something so stupid it shouldn't have even been talked about. Yet she had done it and now she would truly suffer the consequences...not only was he the first and only of her friends to know, he was the one she hadn't wanted to know the most. It just figured with her luck, ya know? Now maybe she shouldn't have told him and that made it her fault, but she'd felt it necessary too. He'd given the opening and she had wanted to not keep anything from him ever again. No matter what she thought, this situation fucking sucked. Majorly sucked.
A tear ran down her face as he outburst at her. "Well, I don't know if I kissed him, or he kissed me...but I was drunk" she said, knowing that this would only make him angrier at her. It nearly made it seem like she was some kind of slut which she wasn't one bit. It just looked awful right now, and she wasn't in a good light with him anymore at all. However she wasn't going to allow him to make her feel like shit. She knew why he was upset, and it wasn't because of the fact that Klaus was evil. It was due to the fact it wasn't him she'd kissed.
As he walked away she picked up her own cup and followed. Catching up to him she used her free arm to grab his own arm and spin him to look at her. "YES, Matt, I was lonely. I made a stupid mistake, okay? Not the first time. You...you couldn't handle what I was and Tyler left me. Klaus was there...you weren't, as much as I wish it would have been you" she said, completely spilling her guts to him though she was probably causing a scene and taking things to a place she shouldn't. Nonetheless it was out in the open now. God, what would he think about Dean.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -He couldn't believe what he was hearing right now. He knew that she sometimes did things without thinking, but this one took the cake. How the hell could she have pulled this...with Klaus of all people. He loved the girl more than he could even begin to say, but this was something that he wasn't sure he could accept. He wondered briefly if anyone else around knew about her little fling with Klaus. Okay, so most would not call it a fling...but in his mind a kiss was a fling...especially when his mind was stuck on ex boyfriend boulevard at the moment and not grand friend road.
Hearing her try and explain herself honestly almost made it worse. Hearing that she was drunk made it even harder to hear since she was clearly on her way to being there now. Why after kissing Klaus when she was drunk would she even entertain the idea that drinking was a good thing to do once more? Also, wasn't it her that had freaked out when him and Rebekah had simply hung out for a night? Again, he loved her, but Jesus she was a hypocrite. Okay, so maybe that last one was unfair…as Rebekah had originally gone with him to use him to piss off her mother, but still, either way, he was upset and not thinking as rationally or as nice as he usually did.
Hearing her behind him he wasn't at all surprised when he felt her grab his arm and spin him around. He would admit though that it was slightly annoying how strong she was. He felt a bit emasculated that she was stronger than he was regardless of the fact that realistically he knew that as a vampire she had to be stronger. When he looked at her, he didn't see the vampire...he saw the girl that he was in love with. If only he could have seen that back then.
"Don't you dare blame this on me Caroline. You had already had Tyler on speed dial before you even knew that I knew what you were! So don't pull that. You and Tyler had started getting close way before I found out your secret. Yes I freaked out when I finally came clean but it sure didn't take you long to jump into it with Tyler. So when Tyler left you couldn't come to me instead? You went to Klaus. Did you even think about what that would do to any of your friends? Did you think of Elena, who by the way, lost everyone she loves because of Klaus. Did you think of Stefan, who helped you if I remember correctly and yet at the moment is what he hated the most because of Klaus. Did you think of Tyler, who was essentially killed by Klaus before he was turned into a hybrid?" He asked, his voice growing softer before adding the next part.
"Did you think of me...who is still so far in love with you and yet gets to watch you with people who are so wrong for you..." He asked before turning his face away. "Did you think about anyone but yourself?"

Watching the look on his face as she turned him around broke her heart. Not only was he completely wigging out on her, but he was also hurt. Which why wouldn't he be? Hell any one of her friends would be hurt if they found out. All of them would wig out on her and just completely freak the hell out, wondering how she could have done that to any of them. After all Klaus had done she'd kissed him...or let him kiss her, but still...she was probably the worst person on the earth lately. Although she'd previously thought of herself as a pretty good person that was definitely not the truth now.
There was a tiny look of annoyance plastered on his face at her strength, which only hurt her feelings. Clearly he was still not one hundred percent okay about what she was like he claimed to, or it wouldn't have mattered. Nonetheless she listened to him anyways despite the look, soon knowing she'd wish that she hadn't listened. Soon she began to regret chasing after him as he continuously just began to break her down, inch by inch. He tore her apart and wiped the floor with her.
Her heart sank down to the grass as he began yelling at her. "It wasn't like that...He was there for me, Matt. Tyler was there for me" she managed to choke out, tears welling in her eyes. "I never meant for anything to happen between the two of us" she said, one of her tears dripping down her cheeks. The two of them seemed to have everyone in the square watching them, though it seemed none of them could hear their conversation due to other people talking and the music playing. "I --- I didn't mean for this to happen...He seemed different...I realize now, but I didn't then" she replied, not sure of why she was still trying to defend herself. Honestly she knew she shouldn't have even bothered, nothing she could say would calm him down at the moment. Growing a bit frustrated herself, she went somewhere she probably shouldn't have.
"Okay, so Klaus was bad for me. What about someone new I've met? His names Dean, hes in his thirties. However he's a hunter, so definitely a good guy. Is that better? No, it's not. No one will ever be good enough in your eyes" she exlcaimed, clearly having lost it. That probably hadn't been the best thing for her to bring up at the moment. Oh well, she never said the right thing. Right now was nothing new.
His next comment took her by surprise. She felt her stomach growing very sick as time went on, nearly wanting to throw up as she heard it. She hadn't known he still felt that way about her. No, that shocked her more than anything else. Tentatively, she reached up to place her hand under his chin and attempt for him to look at her. "You still love me?" she asked softly, not able to believe it was the truth in this moment.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Two parts were at war within him. The man who loved this beautiful creature more than he core begin to describe was in agony because all he wanted to do was pull her to him and wipe away her tears. That part of him screamed out to the other part to stop hurting her. He didn’t like to hurt people, and yet here he was, tearing down the girl that he claimed to love. However there was another part in him that refused to be swayed by the tears on her beautiful face. As much as all of him loved her, there was still a part that felt incredibly betrayed by her actions…not just for him…but for all of them.
“I’m extremely happy that Tyler was there for you. I know you needed someone and that’s fine. But don’t put blame on me just because you fell for someone else Caroline. Shit happens, I realize this. I realize that feelings change and people fall in and out of love all the time…at least teenagers do. But that doesn’t mean that I have to like it. That doesn’t mean that I have to smile and say congratulations on finding someone who was even worse for you than I am!” He ranted, knowing that he was most likely not making any sense but a lot of the pent up anger in him at the woman in front of him was rushing out thanks in part due to the exhaustion he felt thanks to working so many double shifts to cover the bills that his mother had left him and thanks in part to the alcohol that he had consumed. He wasn’t drunk or tipsy…just had a bit of alcohol in his system and it was giving him the courage to say things that he usually would keep hidden.
"Different?! He seemed different?! Caroline he's an original vampire hybrid who has killed people...who has hurt our friends...and he seemed different?! It shouldn't matter if he went on to end world hunger...he's still the evil bastard who is the reason that half of our friends lives suck! How could you have forgotten that?!" He asked her, one of his hands in his pocket messing with his keys in the form of a nervous habit.
Hearing her start to ramble on about some guy in his thirties he simply stared at her...not understanding what the hell had happened to this girl to start thinking that she constantly needed a man in her life...but clearly that's what was going on. "Wow, he sounds like a winner...who is picking up high school girls. Did you meet him on an online dating site too...because that would take the cake right there." He stated, not even really giving the thirty something year old a bit of thought. If he had to he'd go to the sheriff and give her that bit of information only to keep her only daughter from getting kidnapped (again, realistically he knew Caroline could take care of herself...but he was a protective SOB what could he say).
Feeling her hand on his chin he jerked it away, looking at her with an emotionless look on his face. "You should know by now Caroline that once I fall for someone, it takes me a lot longer to get over them than a couple months. So to answer your question...yes I still love you. I probably will always love you." He told her before turning on his heel and walking away. "Not that it matters anymore."
