---------------------- ---------------------- Oz shook his head. “Worse.” he said morosely. “Hairspray. You know the one where he was a girl.” he shrugged sadly as if this was the worst thing that could happen to anyone. It wasn't that bad, thankfully. However he had always had a flair for the dramatic. Especially when he was talking about himself. He thought she would appreciate the joke. She seemed to enjoy his humor so far. Her giggles made him crack a smile from his rather dreary, joking, face.
He appreciated she didn't say anything to his intuition warning him against her. It had nothing to do with Cara and he knew that. He had spent plenty of time with other werewolves, just not the female variety. Not that he hadn't had the chance, but he avoided them. Once burned twice shy as they said. It was good to know there were sane females and he was starting to come to terms with that. He enjoyed feeling safe in their mutual secrets. It was a comfort in it's own right. Besides she was smart enough to know when saying nothing was the better option, and that was a good sign of common sense.
Her further jibes to his slight redness only did to make it worse. Could he be any worse with women. He glanced at her rather seriously trying his best to fight back the redness. This was ridiculous. He had been talking to her and behaving like a normal human, now he had turned colors he was losing his bluster. “Cute is good.” he said curtly and tried to let the subject drop. He was breaching unfamiliar waters now. It was better to keep calm and quiet until he figured out something intelligent to say, though he was glad of her affections. It was nice to feel wanted.
He slowed when she did, feeling a tightness in his muscles that said he had worked them decently. He let his breath slow as he relaxed. He followed her slow amble, keeping lazy pace. He didn't know she was thinking about families, it wasn't something that often crossed his mind. He thought it a subject best saved if he ever found someone to start thinking about it with. He listened to her story thoughtfully. It sounded like living through Angelus, with less dead friends. He gazed distantly at the sky. “I lost friends in Sunnydale. Its hard not to with monsters playing in the streets. Sunnydale was like that though. Sort of like Ah! Real Monsters! Without the punch lines.” He crinkled up his face and looked back to her.
She asked the same of him and he considered a moment. “It started when I found out Buffy was the slayer. Started killing vampires and all manner of other nasty. Then I went to Tibet. I learned some combat, but most of it came from a drunkard of a werewolf in Romania.” He stared at the people off about their own days in the park. “He believed that if you could fight as a wolf you should be able to fight as a man. He didn't love what he was, but he called himself enlightened.” He shrugged. He hadn't believed that about his mentor at first, but he had by the time he left. “Picked some stuff up on my own too I guess.”
He shifted slightly flushing just a hair pink behind his ears as he stared at her. His eyes took on that slightly animal look they sometimes did, there was no change to them, they were still human eyes. It was in the way he looked at Cara, curious, focused, intense. “Will you come get coffee with me?” So he didn't drink coffee, but those sort of places were the best for dates that weren't dates. Or so modern culture told him. A chance to see if the two of them together on a sort of date worked. He was reaching out, he was trying. ----------------------

- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -She simply listened to him and nodded, not wanting to interrupt for fear of him clamming up again. It wasn't normal for her to want to hang around someone who talked as little as Oz did...but for some reason she enjoyed it with Oz. Sure she wished he would talk a bit more in order to sort out whatever was going on in not only his own head but in hers as well, but she'd take what she could get. It didn't hurt that she talked enough for the both of them it seemed so it was nice to have someone who was a good listener and didn't try to but into the conversation at all times like a lot of the other people she knew.
Hearing him asking her out for coffee she immediately wanted to jump up and down and say yes, but she could see it in his eyes that this wasn't a date date, more like a date to figure out if he could even handle dating her so to speak. It was odd that she could read that so clearly in his eyes yet for some strange reason she could. She wrote it off like she did everything else, a side effect of being a wolf three days out of the month and instead let her mind race for a moment. She knew that she was asking for trouble by agreeing to do anything with him. He clearly wasn't over his ex girlfriend and that part worried her ...more than she cared to admit. Would she get her heart broken if she allowed this to continue any further than she had already?
She thought about asking for a rain check to give herself a tiny bit more time to think about it but unfortunately she knew what she was going to say either way. Nothing could dissuade her, even the knowledge that there was a good chance she was going to get her heart crushed in before she got to her second cup of coffee yet for some reason she couldn't walk away.
"Sure." She told him simply before looking down at her outfit. "Did you want to head over there now or another time?" She asked, not sure which she was hoping for. A part of her wanted to go now before either of them lost their nerve...well that plus she desperately needed a cup of coffee anyway. However the other part of her wanted to wait so she could change and such...however she'd simply leave the decision up to him.

---------------------- ---------------------- Oz could see she was tossing the idea around. It danced in her eyes like a spark of fire, waiting to ignite. He didn't know if she would say yes, and he knew he still had issues. Willow being the main one. He was trying his best to let her go, so far he had been unsuccessful. When he was with Cara it was easier, Willow became a distant glimmer of light, not the bonfire she usually was on his thoughts. He knew Willow didn't approve of his choice, but at the same time he really didn't care. She had made her own choices and cast him out into the cold. He could have stayed, but it would have broken his heart—more then it already had—to watch her happiness while he suffered alone.
He released these dark thoughts, now was not the time. Now was a time for moving forward, for forgetting the past and angling towards the future. He let his eyes lock on Cara's waiting patiently for a response. Right when he was beginning to think she was going to turn him down she gave him a single word. His heart beat a little harder against his ribs, and not from exertion. The wolf inside him felt approving, if that was even an attribute he could give to the monster. Sometimes he wondered if he humanized the creature too much. Then again it helped him cope.
He smiled, despite himself. Even if it seemed hesitant; that was a yes. He blinked at her question. Well crap he hadn't thought that far ahead. He had been thinking now, but a shower sounded nice. Perhaps a change of clothes to avoid stinking like an animal? He cocked his head and glanced towards his van. “Well I was thinking now, unless you would like to get cleaned up first and meet at the shop downtown in... lets say about an hour and a half....?” That was how long girls needed right? Plus with drive time hopefully she could make it back and get ready in that amount of time. It was more then was needed for him.
He left it open to her. Uncertain of his own decision now that other options had been permitted. He could go either way. A part of him wanted to just go to get coffee now and continue spending time with her, the other part, well it wanted to seem a put together sort of guy who didn't mind cleaning up for a date. There was a third part of him wondering if they could somehow combine these actions, but he repressed his inner man. He wasn't the sort to go wildly seeking nudity with a new woman. It would come when it came, if it did. He wasn't going to rush things. Good things were always worth waiting for. ----------------------

- - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - -She grinned and nodded, rolling her eyes at herself. "Yeah, I could definitely use a little freshening up." She stated with a laugh before looking at her watch and groaning. "Unfortunately I have to get to work in an hour. Didn't realize the time." She told him apologetically. She hated the fact that she had to bail on him when she really did want to spend more time with him. However at the same time she thought that maybe a few days to give him a chance to think would be a better way to go about this. There hadn’t been one meeting so far where it had been planned other than the disastrous meeting at the beach that hadn’t really gone all that well. So maybe thinking for a few days would be a good thing?
Really she was flying by the handle here but still, might not be a bad thing…or it might. She really didn’t know, but she’d be willing to give it a shot.
“You have my number.” She told him, standing up slowly and stretching in order to make the run back to her bike. “Why don’t you give me a call sometime this week and we can go from there. I work Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturdays from 2-7, my classes are Monday-Friday 9-12. Other than that I’m free. So give me a call, okay?” She asked him with a soft smile. She wanted him to know that she wasn’t bailing because she wanted too, she just had to get to work.
Leaning down and pressing a gentle kiss to his cheek, she waved once before turning on her heal and running back down the path they had taken to her bike. She was going to be late and she knew it, as it did take her a bit of time to get ready…but at this rate she really didn’t care. They had needed to clear the air after the awkwardness at the Underground and the beach before then.
She really wasn’t sure what was going to happen in the future…hell she didn’t even know if he’d change his mind and decide he didn’t want to meet up for coffee…but for the first time since moving there she felt like it was the right decision.
And that positive thought made all the difference.

I am not able to keep up with the amount of posts I have right now with my dad’s laptop because it’s so slow so I hate it. Lol. I’ll start a new one as soon as I get my laptop back.
